I have the joy of sharing an amazing conversation with Joel Salomon today! Joel has been a mentor of mine for sometime now and helps me continue to manifest so much of what I want in my life. This week I'm extremely honored to have back on the show for a second time: MK Ultra survivor, targeted individual and technological mind control victim, voice for the voiceless, writer, and author of the book ”21st Century MK Ultra Slave: A Vintage Transhuman Tale”: Ron AlanA little bit about Ron if you missed his terrific 1st interview where he shared his testimony: Born in 1953 as the 4th son to a father who was a US Navy Pilot and early developer of radar, and a mother who was a ‘Grey Lady' for the American Red Cross, Ron's abuse and programming quite literally started at birth after he was given to the Valley Forge Army Hospital by his parents for 10 days immediately after he was born. Valley Forge Army Hospital was “coincidentally” used for the CIA's Project Bluebird (which precursed Project MK Ultra) and his hospital doctor, Dr. Beck, had many suspicious links including to the CIA, to Manchurian Candidates, as well as to the False Memory Syndrome Foundation - which he joined at its inception and continued being a board member throughout his life. Ron has been an MK Ultra experimental subject since birth - first by early CIA and US Army / Navy doctors and later joined by FBI COINTELPRO. Ron and his older brother, Gordon, were chosen for Project MK Ultra and it wasn't until 2005 when Ron's memories began flooding back at age 52 that he would be awakened to the hard reality of what he didn't know he was forced and programmed to forget.  The last time Ron was on, he shared parts of his incredible testimony from childhood ranging in memories from within the MK ULTRA projects he was subjected to, to the haunting death of his beloved brother, Gordon, to the threads of his family and people who he was associated with from birth that weave together to form the tapestry of Ron's complicated, painful and inspirational life story. What most people think is that when you ‘quote unquote LEAVE' these projects and systems that a survivor's life just returns back to normal and the torture and horrors stop, but for many survivors, this couldn't be further from the truth. Electronic warfare and technological mind control such as directed energy weapons (or DEWS) plague survivors for life and even as a survivor, they still remain a victim. In this special episode, we will learn from Naomi Mattanick, MS, OTR/L & Brooke Tubbs, OTD, OTR/L, two occupational therapists practicing in Surf Therapy.Naomi Mattanick, MS, OTR/L is a pediatric occupational therapist specializing in sensory integration therapy, surf therapy, and childhood and infant development. “Kids are amazing and dynamic individuals. Yet, they have a lot to conquer. In my years of experience, I have served infants to early adolescents in a variety of areas including sensory processing, physical and emotional regulation, organization of behavior and attention, acquisition of vital motor milestones, motor coordination development, and oral-motor therapy for feeding. My mission is for each caregiver and child to feel understood and empowered as they are equipped with life-long tools. My passion is to see children feel joy as they playfully develop a strong identity and sense of self through the skills and knowledge they have obtained.”Brooke Tubbs, OTD, OTR/L is a recent graduate from Northern Arizona's Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program. She now lives and practices as an acute care OT in a community hospital and as a surf therapist in Rhode Island. Brooke graduated from Alma College in Michigan with a B.S. in Integrative Physiology and Health Science and a Minor in Spanish. After graduation, Brooke was a U.S Fulbright Scholar in the Philippines, performing research on Filipino teachers' perceptions of inclusive education practices. During her OTD program, Brooke participated in a research residency in the Philippines, working with an interdisciplinary team to create an immersive research project surrounding multi-modal perceptions of aging. She also completed a graduate research certificate through the University of South Florida, in partnership with NAU, in Translational Research Education in Adolescent Behavioral Health. With this project Brooke worked with peers to develop a life skills curriculum and assessments for youth aging out of foster care; she is passionate about this work and continues to be involved in projects related to it. She is involved with additional research projects relating to CRPS and sensory processing and practice scholarship for OTs. Brooke will complete an additional graduate research certificate in the spring of 2023 on the topic of Culturally Competent Addictions Research Training. Brooke's intentional drive for the unknown led her to become a surf therapist in Rhode Island. She has a recently published article in the OT Practice Magazine titled “Riding the Wave: Occupational Therapy's Role in Surf Therapy”. Brooke has large aspirations for promoting OT's work in uncommon settings, practicing at the full scope of her license, and transitioning to a role in academia down the line. I haven't worked with many adolescents and young adults (AYA, roughly teens to twenties).  But when I have, I find that they're often some of the hardest patients to care for.  Why?  We talk about why it's so hard with Abby Rosenberg (chief of PC at DFCI and Boston Childrens), Nick Purol (clinical social worker at DFCI and Boston Childrens), Daniel Eison (pediatric PC doc and co-host of PediPal).  We are grateful to Andrea Thach (PC doc at Sutter East Bay) for bringing this topic to our attention and for asking questions as a guest host.  Here are just a few of the explanations for why it's so hard: They are closer in age to some of us (younger clinicians).  Countertransference hits hard. There's an in-between space between adolescence and adulthood - and there's something that we identify with in that in-between space, tugging at our heart strings Everyone has been a teenager.  Everyone has lived through their early 20s.  Every member of the interdisciplinary team.  Adolescence and young adulthood is a romanticized time of life in our culture.  We remember bucking the rules, figuring out who you are, hair on fire, feeling invulnerable, trying to figure out who you are - and now those adolescents are stuck in the hospital, with doctors and parents telling them what to do, having their autonomy crushed by the medical institution, realizing they're not invulnerable. We talk about these issues and more - what resources to leverage, how to cope as a team.  We in geriatrics and adult palliative care clinicians have so much to learn from our colleagues in pediatrics - and though many of these lessons are specific to adolescents and young adults - many of the lessons are valuable for the care of patients in older life stages. In this week's pod, we were joined by Shane Forth to discuss Navigating the Project Control Landscape: A Journey Through the Decades and Beyond. Shane's project controls career began on Phillips Petroleum Teesside Oil Terminal, a 1970s mega-project. Aged 20, he learnt the fundamentals of scheduling using manual techniques. Career progression followed with three further mega-projects worth tens of billions of pounds in today's terms. This was interspersed with UK construction projects for leading mechanical contractors. In 1992, as Planning Manager for a major EPC contractor, he quickly learned two important lessons. His enthusiasm to introduce effective project controls integrating cost and schedule was out of step with senior management and a discovery of a skills gap and shortage of project controls resource. His industry leadership, uniting groups and individuals to create project controls standards, occupational certifications, career paths, competency frameworks, higher professional recognition, and especially apprenticeship programmes, may Shane's my most enduring legacy. So besides writing and working on software stuff I have two very talented dogs and one of them is a German Shepherd. And if you wanna establish a writing and basically routine for your life, get a German Shepherd because they're very German. And they're going to they want a rigorous routine. You don't take 'em for a walk on time. You'll get out, you'll get your steps, I promise. Nice. But anyway, , so I just wanted to throw that in there. But so Stephen: that's our best writing advice I probably ever heard. You wanna be a good scheduled writer, get a German Shepherd, get a German Troy: Shepherd. It's that's the answer to all of your, if everyone had one, the world would anyway. No, probably not true. But anyway but I'm like a lot of other people I wanted to write when I was young, I knew I wanted to be a writer. I was six years old, wrote my first book. George and the Giant Castle never been published, oddly enough. Didn't get picked up. But but when I was about 14, I knew I wanted to write full-time. I knew this was it, this is what I wanted to do. But all of those wise people in your life, like college counselors and parents and stuff like that, told me it was an impossible dream. I said, you're a creative guy, but you need to be able to do something that makes money. And being a writer full-time is an impossible dream. And so I believed them and I tell people, basically three decades later, a collection of hairnets and name tags and various career starts, I decided I should probably figure out this writing thing because otherwise I wasn't sure what I was gonna do with the rest of my life. And things were just kinda a mess. I'm like, I didn't know. I honestly didn't know what am I gonna do? And so yeah, so basically then I decided to write full-time and my timing was pretty good. Indie publishing was just becoming an accepted thing. It wasn't quite as dirty of a word by then. And so there was that, there were a lot of small presses emerging.

Holiday homecomings kindle hopes of achieving a domestic ideal, though family gatherings are also likely to evoke old roles and emotions. Families open a portal into the patterns of the past, and unfinished business can cause repetition of disappointing dynamics, as if one more replay will yield a different outcome. John Gottman, renowned interactive researcher, states that authentic relationships have more positive than negative interactions, creating an emotional bank account to draw on when difficulties arise. If relational deposits are low, it may be time to face the disappointing reality of what should have been and may never be. It's time to start something new. We can engage the task of making a home within instead of seeking it from others. When we are at home with ourselves, we are free to enjoy relationships for what they have to offer.  Dream It's nighttime, and I'm at the airport with my mom, in line for security. I have my cat with me, and, as I'm about to go through security with him, I suddenly realize we are outside on the tarmac. I'm worried about pulling him out of his carrier, because I know that if he escapes my arms, I'll never find him out there. I can't bear to lose him; the thought fills me with dread and I start to panic. Upon seeing this, the TSA worker lets me keep him in his carrier. I get through and get on my flight. Upon landing, I find myself in Berlin. I make my way to the hotel, where I meet up with several friends. We are all tired from travelling, and it's snowy out, so we decide to stay at the hotel and rest before exploring the city. We head to the pool, where the bar is very crowded with old people. One of my friends decides to go swimming, even though it's very cold out. She plunges in, and a hotel employee scolds her, telling her it's too cold and she must get out. She doesn't listen. More of my friends have arrived and are now also jumping into the pool. I stand at the edge, looking down at the water, unsure if I want to go in. Suddenly, an impulse takes over, and I need to feel the cold water on my body. I realize at this moment that I have a migraine, and I know the shock of the cold will heal it. I jump in and am surprised by how deep the pool is. I'm underwater a lot longer than I thought I'd be. When I resurface, I suddenly remember that my cat and my ex's cat are in my hotel room, and I'm struck with a need to go check on them. I couldn't bear to lose them and need to make sure they're okay. Back in my hotel room, I find the cats are safe, and I also discover that my ex is in the room, like he's been waiting up there for me. I get into the bed, which is large and has a fluffy white comforter, and he joins. I am suddenly nervous, as I realize we haven't shared a bed in months, and I'm not sure what to do. But we quickly fall into place and he's holding me tight. It feels secure and warm, and we fall asleep like that. When I awake, we are back in our hometown together.  References John Gottman. Customer lifetime value and segmentation is this week's episode of the I Hate Numbers podcast.  Last week I kicked off with https://www.ihatenumbers.co.uk/using-customer-lifetime-value/ (part one) I will be continuing from part one my exploration of customer lifetime value by looking at Firstly CLV and net CLV calculation Secondly, customer segmentation Thirdly, customer retention. These topics are important for anyone looking to improve their business profits, deliver a positive customer experience, or simply improve their understanding of their customers. By segmenting customers according to their lifetime value, businesses can focus their attention on those customers who are most likely to generate long-term profits.  Customer retention is essential for maintaining profitability, as it costs much less to retain a customer than it does to acquire a new one. By understanding these concepts, businesses can set themselves up for success in the long run. Customer lifetime value is a number that tells you how much profit a customer will bring your business over the course of their “lifetime” with you. To calculate this, you'll need to look at your customer's average order value, how often they purchase from you, and how long they stay with you as a customer. Customer segmentation is a way of dividing your customers into groups based on shared characteristics. "Emerson – Never have I felt so much at home in a book, and in my home, as – I may not praise it… it is too close to me... The author who has been richest in ideas in this century so far, has been an American..." (Nietzsche) Ralph Waldo Emerson is one of the most influential minds in America, as a leading figure in the Transcendentalist movement that emerged during the mid-1800s, a personal friend and strong influence on Thoreau, and a preacher outside of any church or dogma. Emerson believed that what he called "Historical Christianity" had rendered the Christian religion a dead faith. Rather than educating men's spirits as to the meaning of their individual strivings and sufferings, or relating the wisdom of the Bible to their actual lives, preachers merely uttered moral sentiments and taught their flocks by rote. After departing the Harvard Divinity School, Emerson lectured all around America for 25 years. He was part of the Lyceum movement, which aimed to bring such philosophical lectures to general audiences - transmitting philosophy to the people, rather than just those within academia. While Emerson has sometimes been portrayed as an 'easy optimist' with a positive message, he was a man of intense feeling whose life was marred by tragedy. His answer to the suffering of his life was to transmute it into a sincerely personal and individual spirituality, and an understanding of all life as expressions of one divinity: The Over-Soul. The link between Emerson and Nietzsche is one that is oft-overlooked, even now. Some have called this a kind of perennial oversight, an absurdly repeating blind spot in approaching Nietzsche. Perhaps this is because the two men have as many differences as they do similarities. And yet, when we look within Nietzsche's journals and letters, and even within his published works, the influence of Emerson is made stunningly clear. Throughout the episode, we examine how concepts such as the personal v/s the impersonal, the use and abuse of history, the celebration and acceptance of all life's circumstances, the use of a monistic principle to explain all life - were all part of Emerson's philosophy as much as Nietzsche's. Both men were, in Emerson's coinage, "children of the fire": the souls who perceive the beauty of the divine fire underlying all life and existence, and give it voice in poetry, philosophy, and song.
