Kristin is a thru-hiker, climber, and human rights activist from Norway currently living in London. Despite her outdoorsy upbringing in snowy Norway, it was only in her 20s that she discovered her own adventure journey. After going through a very tough time at university, Kristin decided to hike the Te Araroa across New Zealand's South Island as an existential journey to shed her depression when she was 22. Her thru-hiking journey has taken her across the world on trails such as the John Muir Trail, the GR11 Spain, the GR20 Corsica, and The Haute Route in Switzerland. She founded her blog, Let's Trek It, to share her adventures, tips, and inspire others to undertake their own wilderness journeys. *** Don't miss the latest episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast, released every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 AM UK time! Was ist passiert?

How should I title these podcast episodes? Gotta put my podcast on YouTube Film myself answering questions and reacting to community Serves as a form of education Title and thumbnail need to focus in on one topic tho Would drive me crazy to not put it on the main channel tho. I've watched videos with just people talking tho. As long as the hook is interesting and they deliver the answer I watch I feel the need for more dialog between you and I What feedback do you have on the podcast in general? Should I accept feedback in the form of voicemails? Would comments on YouTube work well for feedback? Should I spend time making educational content? I feel like mini tutorials on TikTok would work well. Basically break a full workshop into small chapters. Answer questions that people might Google. People still think I'm shooting iPhone only Tired of getting every kind of feedback on my work… talk less, talk more, more social, stop including friends, more vlogs, don't vlog Wish I had fellow creators to talk through my problems and projects. Most of the creators that I call friends don't really reciprocate my attempts to connect. Need help finding interesting places to go and hike Doing sponsorship differently. Trying to negotiate with better brands on larger campaigns. Basically trying harder. Have cancelled the last few integrations Where should I hike in 2024? Also kinda don't want to ask I always seem to question how important community and feedback actually is. Should I be putting podcast episodes on YouTube? Voices of the Mountains, the latest series for the Uphill Athlete Podcast, is devoted to the unique stories of those who choose the mountains. Each episode explores what it means to be a human in complex and challenging environments. In April 2018 Steve House and another mountain guide were the first to discover a massive tragedy that ultimately took the lives of seven skiers. Swiss National Television recently released a documentary on the incident, Todesfalle (Death trap) Haute Route, a film directed by Frank Senn. Steve recounts his experience of the catastrophe and digs into what it means to be a first responder, guide and most of all a human, when faced with the loss of human life. Alyssa and Steve grapple with the questions of luck, human error, preparedness and individual responsibility. They dissect the judgment often associated with accidents and attempt to reconcile how to learning from these tragedies and supporting a community often faced with devastating losses. Please write to us at coach@uphillathlete.com or visit uphillathlete.com for more information. They say Haute Route is the toughest amateur cycling event out there. This August, eight members of the Steed Cycles Masters Road Race Team travelled to France to ride the Haute Route Alps (mini Tour de France for amateur cyclists). Starting in Megeve and finishing in Nice, the route covers 750km (20,000m of climbing) over 7 days and passes some of the most iconic climbs in road cycling. One of the riders, Rich Costello captured recordings from the team throughout the week to compile this audio diary. If you've ever wondered what it's like to take part in an Haute Route event, then this episode is well worth a listen. Was ist passiert?
The Haute Route Pyrenees (HRP) runs along the spine of the less-crowded of Western Europe's two major mountain ranges, between France and Spain. Stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea, the HRP is one of three long distance trails traversing this range, with the GR10 and GR11 providing less challenging alternatives with their own charms. With spectacular vistas, deep history, and ancient villages along the whole route, this is a trail that speaks to my soul. #trailsaroundtheworld #skyking #thruhiking #enigma #pyrenees #hauteroutepyrenees #GR10 #GR11 #dill.on.dice

Fresh from the Haute Route Alps, Ironman Coach Matt Dixon returns to the podcast to share his thoughts on the experience, the lessons he gleaned from the 7-day event, and how to apply them to your athletic pursuits. The conversation covers training versus race execution and a look at the principles and elements of Matt's preparation as a time-starved athlete that supported his performance. (22:19) "I think I arrived at the race really vibrant and healthy. We always talked about fit and fresh. I think I actually managed to succeed in doing that. And that was really beneficial for me. The challenge was the mental test. Every single day I finished I thought, goodness me, I've just done too much damage to myself today. But the interesting thing about these is not judging yourself, not buckling mentally, and just maintaining a curious mind of what is the body going to pay me back with. And every day the body responded for myself and the rest of our team. And it was -- I just felt fresh every day." Matt walks us through the Haute Route with a look at his approach to the challenges of the ride and offers his five key takeaways and lessons from the experience. 5 Lessons from the Haute Route: (26:08) The importance of taking on a scary challenge (29:13) Prepare effectively without it dominating life (30:50) The critical importance of training self-management (33:38) A methodology and Coaching Matters (35:38) Being a part of something amplifies everything This episode aims to provide insight into approaching a multi-day event and provides principles and insights you can apply to your training approach towards your athletic challenge. In this episode of the Purple Patch Podcast, Ironman Master Coach Matt Dixon frames his preparation and training path as he sets his sights on the Haute Route des Alpes, a 7-day cycling challenge through the heart of the Alps. The Haute Route Des Alpes is thought of as one of the toughest endurance cycling events in the world and is the original version of the Haute Route Series of events now spanning the globe. Matt and his team, consisting of his two brothers and a group of friends, will traverse some of the most challenging uphill climbs in cycling. (47:16) "We have eight folks, all time-starved, all middle-aged men...that are going to do this thing on a very similar program." The course spans from Nice, in the Côte d'Azur, to Megève, in the Mont Blanc massif and features 6 mountain stages of the Tour de France along with a hill-based time trial. With the Haute Route only weeks away, Matt outlines his approach to the event, giving us a classic example of a time-starved athlete balancing training for a major challenge and the demands of life. (21:51) “The truth is that when I looked at my priorities around family and Purple Patch, I didn't really have capacity to train for this event, at least in the way that I would if I didn't have those responsibilities. And so what I've had to do is think outside of the box, I've had to apply much of the Purple Patch methodology to myself. And I had to maintain throughout the journey, this within context, my priority number one, family. Number two, Purple Patch, and then the Haute Route." Matt also provides an overview of what we can expect along the way as he documents the experience here on the Purple Patch Podcast from August 20th through the 27th. In this episode Matt will cover: (10:16) The Haute Route des Alpes: Course Profile and stage descriptions. (17:20) A Preview of our coverage and daily field reports. (23:41) The profile of a time-starved athlete: Matt's training approach. (40:16) An overview of Matt's daily nutrition, hydration, and fueling. This episode not only previews Matt's pursuit of a personal goal as he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, but it also highlights the distinct challenges of a multi-day event and offers individual lessons on the layers of preparation and performance in broader sport and life. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, we are joined by Shayla "Kiddo" Paradeis. Shayla is a very accomplished backpacker, with the triple crown just scratching the surface of her hiking resume, but it's her approach to backpacking that makes this conversation stand out. We chat about what it's like to backpack in today's age without a smartphone, including the differences of keeping in touch with hikers, navigating on trail, tracking the forecast, and more. Shayla also shares her experience of healing on trail, and how her experiences as a sexual assault survivor have played a major role in her desire to be in the backcountry. Another warning to listeners, if the subject of sexual assault is especially triggering to you, we encourage you to skip ahead about half way into today's interview. We wrap the show with the triple crown of reasons to go to a baseball game, we check in with MG as she's just hiked through the 100-Mile Wilderness, we discuss things that feel like a scam but aren't (but also sort of are), and give a shoutout to a couple who got engaged on the PCT this year! Katie and Germain both have top-10 finishes at UTMB and have won races like the UTCAM, MIUT and the Swissalpine Marathon. Together, the pair traversed from Cervinia to Chamonix in 3 days along the summer Haute Route. The project, which they completed in 2020, was documented by On Running in a production called “Taming Giants”. Among other skimo races, the two have raced the Pierra Menta, and this winter Katie raced 2 Skimo World Cups for the USA. We talk about navigating a career as a professional athlete when your partner is doing the same, training in the mountains throughout the seasons, the ties between skimo and ultra-running and much more.
