Want to add strategic pricing to your marketing tool box? Go to InteliChek or call 877-827-7273 and ask about our InteliShare Series! InteliShare contains all of our promotional tools that you can use to promote your favorable prices, including our InteliAds, the printable flyers that you can show off in easel displays, InteliMedia, for your Digital Media Boards AND InteliWidgets, so you can show off price comparisons on your website and even let your customers schedule from the widget. Summary In this episode, Brandon, Ed, and Tom discuss the Right to Repair Act and its implications for dealerships. They explore the key provisions of the act, including the requirement for manufacturers to provide specifications to third parties and the disclosure of vehicle information captured in telematics. The conversation also touches on the potential impact on warranties, patents, and personal data. The hosts debate the need for regulation in the automotive industry and the balance between consumer choice and intellectual property rights. They also discuss the history and future of the repair act and its potential effects on the industry. The conversation discusses the impact of proposed legislation on the use of aftermarket parts in vehicle repairs. The speakers explore the history of aftermarket parts, the role of certifications, and the potential consequences of the legislation. They also touch on the influence of insurance companies and the importance of educating customers about their repair options. The conversation concludes with a discussion on data privacy and the need for consumers to be informed and make their own decisions. Takeaways The Right to Repair Act is an attempt by Congress to level the playing field between dealerships and manufacturers, but it may put dealers and manufacturers at a disadvantage. The act requires manufacturers to provide specifications to third parties and disclose all vehicle information captured in telematics, which raises concerns about intellectual property rights and personal data privacy. Dealerships are already heavily regulated, and the act adds another layer of complexity and cost, potentially driving up prices for consumers. The act may lead to more subscription services and increased prices for vehicles, as manufacturers find alternative ways to recoup costs. The future of the repair act is uncertain, with different states passing their own legislation and the potential for changes depending on the political landscape. The quality of aftermarket parts has improved over time, and they can be a cost-effective alternative to OEM parts. The proposed legislation would require OEMs to share their patents and information with aftermarket manufacturers, potentially impacting competition and innovation. Insurance companies may prefer the use of aftermarket parts to keep costs down, but customers should be educated about their repair options. Data privacy is a concern, and consumers should have the choice to share their vehicle data or not. In this special episode of the podcast, Andrew Husband (Senior Writer & Editor, Office of External Relations) briefly assumes hosting duties to discuss five years of Sloanies Talking with Sloanies with host-turned-guest Christopher Reichert, MOT '04.Reichert reflects on some of his most cherished and memorable conversations with MIT Sloan alumni and faculty—including the late Ed Roberts, SB '57, SM '58, SM '60, PhD '62, and his son, Mitch Roberts, SM '92; as well as a joint conversation with Juan Pablo Armas, SM '92, and Roberto Rigobon, PhD '97, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the MIT Sloan Latin America Office. After living and working in Australia for 13 years, Reichert decided to seek out an MBA degree to build on the skills he had developed while founding and managing an IT consulting company. The confluence of business and technology led him to MIT Sloan, where he initially considered the MBA program before a chance reading of a Management of Technology program brochure.Reichert emphasizes the importance of volunteerism among alumni, and Husband highlights the former's ongoing work with the MIT Sloan Boston Alumni Association, the MIT Sloan Alumni Board, and the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium. This naturally leads to a discussion of MIT Sloan Reunion 2024 and the need for the ongoing involvement of the alumni community at large.Links:LinkedIn ProfileMIT Sloan Reunion 2024Support the Show. Thanks for listening! Prayers of the People for Sunday, April 9, 2023, by Ed Roberts.
A conversation with Ricard Huguet, MOT '04, from his start as Director of Innovation for the City of Barcelona, to following his vision of leveraging LEGO robotics for innovation in STEM education in both classrooms and executive suites. Ricard speaks about listening to his customers for ideas, the pivot he made in his company in 2008—in the face of the global economic downturn—and the latest addition of an online platform that has extended his reach exponentially. Ricard also talks about the lessons and confidence he gained from attending MIT Sloan and the lasting value he gets and gives to the MIT community. Ricard speaks about the saddest day of his life, namely the last day as a student at MIT, and the powerful message he heard, but initially did not understand, from Professor Rebecca Henderson. She reminded him and his classmates about the blessing of attending MIT, which so few in the world can do, and the importance of working for a company that does something for the community. She advised him to either start his own venture or be sure that his values align with the company's values, but not to settle for less. Ricard also speaks about the resonance of the "Create, Capture, Deliver" framework and how he uses this when assessing either his own business model or start-ups that approach him for advice or investment. Ricard talks about his investment approach, which starts with the team and then the idea. He speaks about the challenge for him and other investors in managing their portfolios and how he created an organization to help him and others to improve their performance. Finally, Ricard's advice to prospective Sloanies is to embrace the ecosystem, live there, enjoy people, get into labs, collaborate with people, and join clubs. MIT is the only top university that did not open campuses around the world, and that is because of the unique network and the special ecosystem that they've been able to create around campus. In the last half of the 70s there was one gold standard in home computing: S100. This was a standardized bus that was the heart of many computers. It allowed for the interchange of parts from different manufacturers. Best of all, the S100 bus was simple. This made for a wonderful platform for hobbyists, and helped jump start the home computer revolution. And then... it disappeared. Where did the S100 bus go, and would we have been better off if it stuck around? This episode we tackle these questions and more.

Interview with Monte Davidoff, Developer of Altair BASIC Floating Point Welcome to Floppy Days episode 113 for April, 2022. I am Randy Kindig, your host. I'm going to take a break this month from covering machines in order to bring you a special interview show. Monte Davidoff worked with the very early Microsoft, while in college, when they were famously getting started by developing a BASIC for MITS and Ed Roberts for the Altair 8800. Monte developed the floating point routines for that BASIC that they so desperately needed at the time. If you're like me, I previously was unaware of Monte's contributions to essentially the first BASIC developed for arguably the first personal computer. It's interesting to hear Monte's perspective on how he managed to get involved with Microsoft, Bill Gates, Paul Allen and the project on which he worked with them. His recall of specifics about programming for the 8080 is pretty amazing. Before getting into the interview, I do want to talk about some vintage hardware or modern upgrades I was able to acquire, as well as bring you information about upcoming vintage computer shows. Finally, while I usually abstain from talking about monetary support for this podcast, I do want to mention that I have a way for you to help if you have the inclination. I have a page set up at https://www.patreon.com/FloppyDays where you can donate. Any funds will be used to defray the cost of managing the podcast as well as acquiring new hardware to talk about. Thank you so much everyone who has contributed and continues to contribute!
