What do we want to see from it? is there a new story to be told in the Fallout universe? We get into it. We talk the real possibility of next-generation games starting at £70 as their recommended retail price. Are we going to spend that kind of money to play Horizon Forbidden West? Is the price of games balancing out the cost of development, we attempt to take a look at the issue a little more pragmatically. Finally we get very sad at the fact that Futurlab's ready to release sequel to Velocity 2X, Velocity Supernova may never see the light of day due to publishing issues. As the game has been teased by Futurlab themselves, we can only hope the game gets picked up by a publisher and become the biggest game on earth because of course it would it's a damn sequel to one of the best games of the generation, right? Come on, publishers. Goodness. My guest on today's show is Shahid Ahmad. For many people, Shahid is best known as the Playstation Indie Champion. He was part of a team that changed the landscape at Sony, and made Playstation a home for indie developers, developing the rich ecosystem we see today. But before that, Shahid had already had a rich and varied history with videogames. Starting as a bedroom coder in his teenage years, Shahid has gone on to work in almost every facet of the industry - development, production, publishing, composing - as well as playing in bands and starting his own business. He's won it all, lost it all, and won it all back. His life in games is an extraordinary story. We talk about getting RSI playing Speedball, sibling rivalry in Street Fighter, why Space Invaders is like the monolith in 2001, and the formula for knowing when a game should be greenlit. In this episode Paul interviews Dave Upchurch. Starting his career at EMAP on popular 90's magazine ACE he soon was moved to The One Amiga where he became the magazines editor. At the time the Amiga was going from strength to strength with games such as The Secret Of Monkey Island 2, Chaos Engine. In 1996 following his success at The One Amiga he went on to work on Nintendo Magazine System up until the official UK launch of the Nintendo 64 in 1997. Dave tells us a few tales of his good and bad experiences in games journalism before we move discuss his career away from the magazines. We look at his time working for LEGO who wanted to break into the video games market, his time making educational software for Mangahigh which received a lot of accolades and much more. Dave currently works for Curve Digital that have released games for the PC, PS4, Switch such as Human Fall Flat, Smoke and Velocity 2X. With almost 30 years in the games industry now there was plenty to discuss in this 3 hour interview.
