Volume Dealer is a new venture started by Dan McDougall and his brother Ando - better known for their roles in Frankenbok and Dreadnaught respectively - which is an online show featuring live music and interviews with the best live bands Melbourne has to offer. While on the surface not an entirely new idea, it is the approach behind Volume Dealer, and, more importantly, the people behind Volume Dealer that makes it quite possibly one of the most exciting and rewarding musical ventures to hit the market for a considerable time. The basic premise is this: Dan records a live set in his studio, asks the band some questions interview style, edits the music and narrative together and publishes the finished product. But that is only scratching the surface of what Volume Dealer offers. Participating bands walk away with high-quality, live footage of them playing in a live setting, footage that can be used for invaluable exposure and promotion. Many bands in the modern age can't afford to outlay money on classy production or studio time, and inevitably lack the polish to keep up with the multitude of bands racing in similar directions. Not through lack of vision or dearth of talent, but because they simply don't have the tools or means at their disposal to guide them on their musical journey. The final footage is kept by the bands but also uploaded to social media and the Volume Dealer website, in effect offering instant high quality promotional tools that could - and quite often are - the difference between success and failure.Dan has also worked in optional extras to each package, with one idea to do up an exclusive, limited, one time only line of merchandise for each band that performs, lasting only for the duration of their three to four-week rotation before the next band's performance and interviews are completed ready for publication.Dan also offers a competitive, high quality range of merchandise for sale to the general public, adding to the complete musical flavour of the whole project. With the first episode being released earlier today with Melbourne three-piece Scarnon, Volume Dealer have struck their first blow at revitalising the local music industry, with much broader plans and vision moving forward.HEAVY sat down with Dan McDougall to find out more."Volume Dealer is a new online show that we've just started with live music and interviews," he began. "With, at this stage anyway, Melbourne's finest live bands. We're hoping to take it Australia-wide and have international bands at some stage, but for the time being we'll just focus on Melbourne bands."Although an in depth project with many moving parts, we ask Dan to simplify what Volume Dealer offers."We're going to get bands in to the studio, film them and record them live," he explained, "for anywhere between five and seven songs and then after the live sets done I'll then sit down with one of the members and interview them for a little bit. Then we just take all that footage and compile it into an episode and at this stage the format is we do a song and then a little bit of interview and then a song and a little bit of interview and so on. We had our first episode come out today, and I'm really happy with how it's all turned out. The point of the show is to be a promotional vehicle not only for the bands but for us as well, to showcase what we all do and hopefully make a bit of money in the process."In the full interview, Dan elaborated on the show's format, which includes filming live performances and conducting interviews with band members, and expressed his excitement about the positive reception it has garnered. This project has been a long-standing aspiration for Dan, reflecting his deep passion for capturing the essence of live music and providing a platform for local talent. The conversation highlighted the technical challenges Dan faces in achieving high-quality audio while maintaining the authenticity of live performances. He emphasized the importance of minimizing bleed and preserving spontaneity in the studio environment. As the project progresses, Dan said he is pleased with the advancements made in addressing these technical issues, which are crucial for delivering a polished yet genuine representation of the bands' performances. The involvement of Dan's brother, Ando, in filming and communication was also discussed, with plans for his role to expand as the project evolves. We explored the promotional aspects of Volume Dealer, including the intention to offer high-quality audio and visual recordings to bands at no cost, with the option for bands to purchase the recordings and also discussed leveraging social media for cross-promotion and creating a dedicated website and YouTube channel to showcase the content. Additionally, Dan shared plans for limited edition merchandise tied to each episode, drawing on his experience in merchandising to enhance the bands' revenue opportunities plus more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

We accomplish our mission through education and awareness to promote safe skiing and snowboarding behaviors. The Foundation was started as a result of a life changing collision and a desire to ensure that these types of collisions never happen again. Since 2016, we have been creating a social movement among skiers and snowboarders with the “Ride Another Day” campaign. Snow Angel Foundation, founded in 2023, is the vehicle that will expand this campaign and transform the culture of skiing and snowboarding into a safety-oriented community. Partner with us so we can all Ride Another Day!The “life changing collision” referred to above resulted in the death of this little girl, Elise Johnson, in 2010:Why I interviewed themThe first time I saw this, I felt like I got punched:I was skiing Snowbird, ground zero for aggressive, full-throttle skiing. The things you see there. The terrain invites it. The bottomless snow enables it. The cultish battle cries of packed-full tram cars demand it. Snowbird is a circus, an amphitheater, a place that scares the s**t out of anyone with a pulse. There aren't many beginners there. Or even intermediates. You're far more likely to smash your face into a rock than clip some meandering 8-year-old's tails when you drop into Silver Fox.But the contrast between that mountain and that message was powerful. For a subset of skiers, every ski day must be this sort of ski day, every run a showcase of their buckle-bending, torque-busting snow arcs. “Out of My Path, Mortals. You are all just traffic cones around which I dance. Admire me!” And it's like damn bro how are you single? That ski behaviors aren't transferable from High Baldy to Baby Thunder is a memo that too many skiers have yet to receive. Is anyone else tired of this? Of World Cup trials on blue groomers? Of the social media braggadocio and bravado about skiing six times the speed of light? Of knuckleheads conflating speed with skill? When I talk about The Brobots, this is a big part of what I mean: the sense of entitlement to do as they please with shared space, without regard for the impact their actions could have on others.I hope one or two of these people will listen to this podcast. And I hope they will stop threading the Buttercup Runout back to the Carebear Quad as though they were navigating an X-Wing through an asteroid belt. Speed is a big part of skiing's appeal. The power and adrenaline of it, the thrill. But there are places on the bump where it's appropriate to tuck and fly, and places where it just isn't. And I wish more of us knew the difference. What we talked aboutElise just “had a lot of light”; being a ski family; an awful Christmas Eve at Hogadon Basin; waking up six weeks later; recovering from grief; why the family kept skiing; transforming pain into activism; slow the F down Brah; who's doing a good job on safety; ski industry opposition to injury- and death-reporting regulations; and what we learned from the mass adoption of helmets.Podcast NotesOn couples on the podcastI mentioned I've hosted several husband-wife combinations on the podcast, mostly the owners of ski areas:* Plattekill, New York owners Laszlo and Danielle Vajtay* Paul Bunyan, Wisconsin owners TJ and Wendy Kerscher* West Mountain, New York owners Sara and Spencer MontgomeryOn Antelope ButteThe Johnsons' local is Antelope Butte, a little double-chair bump in northern Wyoming:On Snowy RangeThe Johnsons also spent time skiing Snowy Range, also in Wyoming:On Hogadon BasinThe incident in question went down on the Dreadnaught run at Hogadon Basin, a 600-vertical-foot bump 20 minutes south of Casper, Wyoming:On 50 First DatesBy her own account, Kelli's life for six weeks went about like this:On the Colorado Sun's research on industry opposition to safety-reporting requirementsFrom April 8, 2024:[13-year-old] Silas [Luckett] is one of thousands of people injured on Colorado ski slopes every winter. With the state's ski hills posting record visitation in the past two seasons — reaching 14.8 million in 2022-23 — it would appear that the increasing frequency of injuries coincides with the rising number of visits. We say “appear” because, unlike just about every other industry in the country, the resort industry does not disclose injury data. …Ski resorts do not release injury reports. The ski resort industry keeps a tight grasp on even national injury data. Since 1980, the National Ski Areas Association provides select researchers with injury data for peer-reviewed reports issued every 10 years by the National Ski Areas Association. The most recent 10-year review of ski injuries was published in 2014, looking at 13,145 injury reports from the 2010-11 ski season at resorts that reported 4.6 million visits. The four 10-year reports showed a decline in skier injuries from 3.1 per 1,000 visitors in 1980-81 to 2.7 in 1990-91 to 2.6 in 2000-01 to 2.5 in 2010-11. Snowboarder injuries were 3.3 in 1990, 7.0 in 2000 and 6.1 in 2010.For 1990-91, the nation's ski areas reported 46.7 million skier visits, 2000-01 was 57.3 million and 2010-11 saw a then all–time high of 60.5 million visits. …The NSAA's once-a-decade review of injuries from 2020-21 was delayed during the pandemic and is expected to land later this year. But the association's reports are not available to the public [the NSAA disputes this, and provided a copy of the report to The Storm; I'll address this in more detail in an upcoming, already-recorded podcast with NSAA president Kelly Pawlak].When Colorado state Sen. Jessie Danielson crafted a bill in 2021 that would have required ski areas to publish annual injury statistics, the industry blasted the plan, arguing it would be an administrative burden and confuse the skiing public. It died in committee.“When we approached the ski areas to work on any of the details in the bill, they refused,” Danielson, a Wheat Ridge Democrat, told The Sun in 2021. “It makes me wonder what it is that they are hiding. It seems to me that an industry that claims to have safety as a top priority would be interested in sharing the information about injuries on their mountains.”The resort industry vehemently rebuffs the notion that ski areas do not take safety seriously.Patricia Campbell, the then-president of Vail Resorts' 37-resort mountain division and a 35-year veteran of the resort industry, told Colorado lawmakers considering the 2021 legislation that requiring ski resorts to publish safety reports was “not workable” and would create an “unnecessary burden, confusion and distraction.”Requiring resorts to publish public safety plans, she said, would “trigger a massive administrative effort” that could redirect resort work from other safety measures.“Publishing safety plans will not inform skiers about our work or create a safer ski area,” Campbell told the Colorado Senate's Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee in April 2021.The Sun also compiles an annual report of deaths at Colorado ski areas. On helmet cultureProblems often seem intractable, the world fossilized. But sometimes simple things change so completely, and in such a short period of time, that it's almost impossible to imagine the world before. I was 19, for example, the first time I used the internet, and 23 when I acquired its evil cousin, the cellphone (which would not be usefully linked to the web for about another decade). In our little ski world, the thing-that-is-now-ubiquitous-that-once-barely-existed is helmets. As recently as the 1990s, you likely weren't dropping a bucket on your skull unless you were running gates on a World Cup circuit. It's not that we didn't know about them – helmets have been around since, like, the Bronze Age. But nobody wore them. Nobody. Then, suddenly, everyone did. Or, well, it seemed sudden, though it's surprising to see that, as recently as the 2002-03 ski season, only around 25 percent of skiers bothered to strap on a helmet:I was a late adopter when I first wore a helmet in 2016. And when I finally got there, I realized, hey, this thing is warm. It also came in handy when I slammed the back of my head into a downed tree at Jay Peak last March.I don't have hard stats on helmet usage going back to the 1990s, but check out this circa 1990s casual ski day vid at an unidentified U.S. mountain:I counted one helmet. On a kid. To underscore the point, here's a circa 1990s promo for Steamboat Ski Patrol, which captures the big-mountain crew rocking knit caps and goggles:The Storm explores the world of lift-served skiing year-round. The Bad Batch have just freed Echo from the Techno Union, and are trying to escape. Echo leads them to an elevated walkway, but they're cut off by droids. Tech summons local flying creatures, and our heroes must take a literal leap of faith off the platform onto their backs to escape… But the droids have wings too?!? Our heroes escape the droids, to the local's village. The locals and our heroes stage a defense, but the locals have no technology and seem to be being overrun by the droids. Two War of the Worlds style massive droids appear and are clearly turning the tide. Anakin takes out one while the clones tackle the other, and the rest of the droids flee. Our heroes are safe, but Echo seems reluctant to return to, as Rex explains it, things being “just like the old times”.Is Echo trustworthy after his treatment at the hand of the Techno-union?Echo, now clad in modified armor with a Bad Batch insignia on it that definitely does not foreshadow anything, offers his assistance in the battle for Anaxes. He has a plan: if the Bad Batch can sneak him on to Admiral Trench's ship, he can continue offering strategic plans to the Separatists, but this time, he'll be helping the Republic instead!Echo spends the rest of the episode not telling anyone else the specifics of his plan, which doesn't help convince everyone that nothing is wrong with him. Once aboard Trench's Dreadnaught, they hijack the ship's comm vault, and Echo plugs into the system, intercepting a request from Trench for battle plans. The request is happening now because the Republic forces, under Masters Windu and Kenobi, have launched an all-out assault on a Separatist-held assembly plant.Phase 2 of Echo's plans that he did not tell anyone about in advance is 'Send all Separatist forces to reinforce the assembly plant that Mace and Obi-wan are attacking.' Again, nothing suspicious here. Warned of more incoming troops, the generals prepare for an even larger battle! Echo makes good on his plan and manages to shutdown all the battle droids once they are in the same place. Admiral Trench has a backup plan, which he has not informed his subordinates of - a bomb hidden in the assembly plant that is big enough to destroy the whole planet!Master Windu goes to disarm the bomb - which is ray-shielded, but fortunately, he has the ability to cause spooky action at a distance. Echo relays the disarmament code to him, but is detected and knocked out before he can relay the last digit. Anakin hunts down Admiral Trench and tells him to reveal the last digit. Trench refuses, noting that Dooku will kill him if he fails to take the planet, but a Jedi would let him live. Skywalker convinces Trench he plays by different rules than the rest of the Jedi, and relays the code to Windu, who disarms the bomb and saves the day, and also kills Trench when Trench tries to stun him.As the bad batch attempts to escape from the ship, Wrecker and Crosshair engage in a "Legolas and Gimli" battle of one-upmanship, killing increasing numbers of droids in increasingly unlikely ways. They board the Marauder and Wrecker gets the last laugh when Anakin hands him the self-destruct button for the flagship. Wrecker gets his boom and the explosion destroys multiple Separatist vessels. When they land, Echo, Rex, and the Bad Batch are congratulated for their efforts. Clone Force 99 lets Echo know that he's now weird enough to be one of them, and he's offered a spot in the group. Rex tells Echo he has to go where he feels he belongs. Echo joins the Bad Batch in saluting Rex.https://twitter.com/ClosingCrawlhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/closing-crawl/id1530133296https://www.closingcrawl.com/Merch at: https://bit.ly/spacetimetm
In 1910 a young Virginia Woolf engaged in a prank now known as The Dreadnought Hoax. The episode, which involved her pretending to be an Abyssinian Prince and wearing blackface, has divided and embarrassed scholars of her work, many of whom prefer not to dwell on it.Danell Jones, author of 'The Girl Prince: Virginia Woolf, Race, and The Dreadnaught Hoax' is the first researcher to deeply consider this moment in Woolf's biography while also engaging with the Black experience in Britain, including the stories of real princes to Caribbean writers and South African activists. A race to find the progenitor's tech between Discover and the newly minted Moll's Dreadnaught. DiSCO gets there about a moment before Moll, only to spend a few minutes indulging in wonder get scooped by the Breen. While Michael, Book, Adira, and Rhys go undercover to get the progenitor's "structure", folks back at Fed HQ are concern because Primarch Tahal (a different Breen overlord) is steaming for the same location to absorb Ruhn's former soldiers into her squad as the Breen prepare for a possible civil war. The Federation and the Breen; DISCO and Moll et al -- and we torn between (at a lagrange point of sorts) wondering what will befall the galaxy!
OMG, Becky! Look at those podcasters! They put out another episode! In this episode the gang gets together again to pick apart and review the Activision scrolling games. What is the Genie from Aladdin doing in a Classic Marvel Star Wars comic? And why is it purple? Who is Cody Sunn-Childe? How does this comic relate to the Mortis Arc and World Between Worlds in Star Wars? Richard and Sarah answer all of these questions as they meticulously delve into Issue #46 "Dreadnaught Devourer" OR "The Dreams of Cody Sunn-Childe." We recommend watching the video version on YouTube which contains the full comic as we page through it. Classic Marvel Star Wars Comics #46 “DREADNAUGHT DEVOURER" Release Date: January 20, 1981 Writer: Wally Lombego - AKA J.M. DeMatteis Artwork: Carmine Infantino, Tom Palmer, Glynis Wein Cover Art: Ed Hannigan and Tom Palmer While Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca are off to rescue Han Solo, the Millennium Falcon encounters problems with a warp engine while in hyperspace which causes the ship to enter another dimension. They come upon a mysterious floating domed city, and discover that this city is the psychic creation of Lando's long lost hero - Cody Sunn-Childe. Years ago, Cody turned his back on his violent and savage past when he discovered his powerful mystical ability and so created his City of Dreams to live with his friends in peace away from the Galactic Civil War. Lando rejects Cody's views claiming that there are times that violence is necessary to win a war, and what good is this power and hidden city when there are millions of people on the other side who are dying because of the Empire. Meanwhile, the Empire has located the city and Cody has a life-altering decision to make. As usual, we take our Facebook Group Comments on the cover into account as we analyze this issue. The criminally unknown film, Dreadnaught, is one of Master Yuen Woo Ping's most underrated films. An ensemble cast with a young Yuen Biao taking the everyman role, everyone from Bryan Leung's Foon to Yuen Shun-Yi's truly unhinged villain White Tiger just chew up every scene they're in.The legendary Kwan Tak-Hing's Wong Fei Hung delights in all the right ways and very wisely and sparingly used for great effect, around which the simmering slasher type thriller on the loose story revolves. The film is liberally sprinkled with incredible fight scenes from fun to life threatening and characters who are genuinely funny, loveable and loathsome. If you've seen it you already know, if you're a fan of golden age martial arts cinema and you haven't then do yourself a favour and treat yourself to this film, epic romp!

Here we go Folks! As you all know, I Love Love Love music in all forms and while I have always been a huge fan of listening to music, I have failed numerous times learning how to play music. Multiple fails of numerous instruments…Flute, Trumpet, Guitar, Drums, Piano, Harmonica Guitar again…you get the picture. So I have always had a deep respect for people who can actually play and I have always loved the local music scene. Rick Habib has got both boxes checked! He has been part of the Seacoast music scene for decades, he is a member of Dreadnaught, Power Money Cake, The Wheel of Awesome and many other groups and he is an all around great guy! We talked about the best place(s) to get coffee, the first music he paid for, his first (and 2nd and 3rd) concerts, the importance of trouble making friends, the origin story of Dreadnaught, the underappreciated brilliance of Steely Dan, walking to the Worchester Centrum, his partiality (but not exclusivity) to a certain brand of Drums, the nostalgia of having to physically buy music, the Awesome power of the Wheel of Awesome, the undeniability of Karaoke becoming an Olympic event, the inevitable fact that we live in a Simulation, the best places to see live music and some upcoming set dates among many other super important topics. Thank you for coming on the show, we hope you enjoyed the conversation as much as we did! #music, #coffee, #ACDC, #backinblack, #steelydan, #ludwig, #ween, #stonechurch, #cafekilim, #wordbarn, #drumcenter, #horseshowcafe, #newmarket, #rockbottmrecords, #powermoneycake, #simulationtheory, #thewheelofawesome, #karaoke, #drums, #drummer, #Localmusic

Lexman the AI has secured a meeting with one of the most powerful women in the galaxy, Hippolyta. However, the dreadnaught she commands is significantly larger than any vessel he's ever encountered, and he has no choice but to muster all of his training and focus in order to not only impress her, but survive her ship.
Sydney metal dynamos Flaming Wreckage will this weekend make the pilgrimage to the Old Kilmore Goal outside of Melbourne to play at Killfest 2022 alongside acts like Skeletal Remains, Psycroptic, Dreadnaught, Innasanatorium and more.Just being invited to play in such esteemed company is testament alone to the hard work put in by Flaming Wreckage in recent years, but when you consider they are the only act invited back to perform after last years inaugural event that achievement is magnified even more.Set down for November 26 Killfest is staged by Mick Quee from Quirky Sounds who aims to bring together the cream of Australian hard rock and metal talent under one roof for a day of music rarely seen in this country. For the first time Killfest welcomes an international act in Skeletal Remains but the focus predominantly remains on Australian bands.Flaming Wreckage vocalist Dave Lupton caught up with HEAVY only days out from the show to talk about Killfest and other things happening with the band."It's really sick," he enthused. "We had the honour of playing it last year but it's really cool to see so many regional festivals popping up around Australia and this one is one of the best. You can't go wrong with that venue. It's in an old jail with a really cool vibe and Mick puts on an awesome show. This line-up is pretty unbeatable as well. There's a couple of heavy hitters up the top so I reckon it's gonna be a ripper."In the full interview, Dave talks about the other bands on the line-up, who he is most looking forward to playing with, last years show and why it worked, life as a touring musician, what sorts of things the band learns about themselves and their music on the road, the follow up to last years album Cathedral Of Bones, what to expect musically from it, how Flaming Wreckage has changed musically over their three albums to date, future plans and more.
Greetings! Welcome to the Halloween 2022 Edition of Pushing The Envelope, thanks to the reminder from my brother, Dan, an aficionado of all things Halloween. Since I sold 99% of my vinyl collection prior to moving to Maryland, I no longer have my stockpile of old spooky favorites and have perused currently available items to assemble today's program with particular new favorites being Jack Curtis Dubowski's new release, "Halloween Horror", the audience recording of John Geist's "The Music of Erich Zann" (featuring the Kronos Quartet w/ Peter Hamill) & particularly (after doing some research), the story behind "The Mummies of Cobbosseecontee" by Dreadnaught. Enjoy!! Who doesn't love a good prank? Well Horace de Vere Cole didn't just love pranks - he lived for them. In the early 1900s, Cole managed to pull successful hoaxes on Cambridge and the British Royal Navy, but although they are his most famous antics, there are many more that are contributed to him that I have the pleasure to tell you and Sarah about this week. Bob Lord does a lot of things. He's the CEO of PARMA Recordings. He's the bassist for the long running, genre defying band Dreadnaught. And now he can add solo artist to the list. He has recorded what can only be described as possibly the most eclectic album of the year called Playland Arcade. It's filled with surfing western sounds, orchestral snippets, and 8-bit jams. Bob also talks about the future of classical music and artists. It's a lot funnier than it sounds. Follow Bob @boblordmusic on social media. Pick up the album Playland Arcade if you want a fun album. Rob Brens is what I would like to call a real hot commodity. Like many of us musicians trying to find and hold onto a drummer is freaking hard, so when we discover world class drummers like Rob, many of us are fighting for a piece of the action. Rob has taken full advantage of the demand by working with a wide range of artists from different genres, crafting his skills and expertise. He is continuously building his profile in Australia and now beyond as a versatile, highly experienced weapon on the skins. Most people will know Rob as the drummer in Hadal Maw and I Built the Sky, however also has a long history with bands such as Alarum, Teramaze, King Parrot, Dreadnaught, Descrator and many more. One of the coolest things about this podcast is the opportunity that I get to spend time and surround myself with positively driven, highly motivated people. Many of those who have been on Andy Social to date are consistently challenging themselves and always wanting to improve. As you will hear in this episode, Rob's focus is not only to be a world class musician, but a world class human. In our chat we cover a wide range of topics from his career to date as a drummer, approaching session work and being able to work effectively on the hundreds of different songs (often quite complex) that he would now have under his belt. We also talk about physical and mental health, productivity, experiencing growth through adversity with his Jiu Jitsu and heaps more. Looking to get pumped up and inspired? Look no further. I think we all need a Rob Brens in our life who sets the standard that we can all strive toward. I hope you get as much from this as I did.
