This week on the SuperAge podcast, we are joined by the inspiring Will Henshall. When Will flatlined in 2018, he had a 2% chance of living, and a 1% chance of surviving without any cognitive impairment. He defied the odds and is here to share his story of how he sees the world differently now.Songwriter, entrepreneur, inventor, photographer, audio engineer, and curious human, Will knows reinvention well. In this episode, he shares his fascinating story of working in the music industry in London where he was the founder of Londonbeat with 5 huge hits, leading a tech team in San Francisco, becoming a professional photographer, and circling back to the music industry in Los Angeles to create music that helps us focus. Will also shares exactly what he learned from flatlining for 20 minutes, essentially dying, and how he lives his life differently now. “We are the physical manifestions of spirit, we are all connected. Just like aspen trees, what you see above ground is only a part of what we are, it is the roots that connect us that are the important part."What you will learn from this episode: What flatlining taught Will about the interconnectedness of our lives Why we are the first generation to be living in a new wayHow to reinvent yourself when something isn't working for you Why community is so important to finding our purpose and staying productive It's not over until it's over“You've got to lean in and be of service and then you will find that you'll get so much back in terms of opportunities and friendship and community and the big word: Brotherhood.” “I didn't have a near death experience, I actually had a death experience. I flatlined for 20 minutes. And what happened was that as I recovered consciousness, I was in a coma for many, many days, my consciousness, my awareness of being in a body started to come back and it was like being in a really groggy dream.” “Brotherhood is very, very important. We make better decisions when we know each other.” “We are as a generation not like old people. We are stylish, in good shape, and we still have considerable amount of purchasing power and we represent well.” Connect with Will - Website: https://home.focusatwill.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/focusatwill/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/focusatwill Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/focusatwillLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/focusatwill/ Listen to the SuperAge podcast wherever you get your pods. https://www.weareageist.com/category/superage-podcast/
In anticipation of Jenn's latest book, "The Cereal Killer Chronicles," all episodes of the So Dead miniseries that inspired it will be released in the main feed this week. Enjoy this deep dive into some of Michigan's strangest history! Throughout Dr. Kellogg's rise to fame and the success of his sanitarium, one man stood in the shadows doing much of the work but getting none of the credit- his younger brother Will. When Will took one of the doctor's discarded projects and turned it into a multi-million dollar empire, their bitter sibling rivalry turned deadly. The brothers spent decades battling over the family name and the throne to the cereal kingdom. In the end, it cost them both much more than money.
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:30 We will be off next week and will have another episode out on August 1st. I met Karen in person and it was a lot of fun! Chandra thinks I should get a pet. Chandra's mom and Hecate have gotten new kittens recently. Here's a link to the podcast I mentioned about old Hollywood romances called Lovers Forever. Chandra loved watching Wimbledon, particularly the women's final. Royals: Minutes 6:30 to 20:30 Duchess Kate is the royal patron of the All England Club and The Duke of Kent is the honorary president. He is the Queen's cousin and is always at Wimbledon to present the trophies. Kate has finally been able to get The Duke of Kent's job. Prince William went to the women's final but he usually skips the women's matches. Kate didn't get much attention at Wimbledon. When Will and Kate arrived at their seats at Wimbledon people clapped for them. Priyanka Chopra, who is friends with Meghan, was seated two rows behind them and did not clap. She just fussed with her scarf and gave them a quick side eye. Australians are upset with Will and Kate because they seemed to be rooting for Czech player, Karolína Plíšková, instead of the Australian Ash Barty. Italy beat England in the Euro finals. Meghan's name was trending because of how the British royal family was racist to her. British trolls on social media were also racist to their own players for missing penalty kicks. The Football Association and their president, Prince William, issued statements condemning the racism. Of course people on our side of the pond pointed out how hypocritical that was of William when he never once spoke out against the racist abuse of his sister-in-law Predictably the British press did not mention William's hypocrisy. William also left the Euro finals match without congratulating the Italian team. He was supposed to participate in the trophy ceremony, however he left before that happened. Italians are saying that he snubbed them. There could have been legitimate security issues however he didn't shake hands with the Italian PM either. We've been talking about the fact that Sophie and Edward are trying to take a bigger role now that Philip has passed. Philip is said to have wanted Prince Edward to inherit his Duke of Edinburgh tite, however that title automatically passed to Charles. Now we're hearing that Charles is feeling petty and might not pass the title to Edward. Two different sources told The Times of London that Charles didn't want to give the Edinburgh title to Edward or the Wessexes. Richard Kay had a follow up in the Daily Mail with more about why Charles is mad at Edward. Chandra says the Wessexes have been tacky in how many interviews they're giving and she understands why Charles wants to streamline the monarchy. Emmy Nominations: Minutes 20:30 to 27:45 We got the Emmy nominations this week and a lot of our favorite shows were nominated. Mare of Easttown and Lovecraft Country got nominated along with acting noms. The shows that tied for the most nominations were The Crown and The Mandalorian and after that was Ted Lasso, which we both loved, WandaVision, The Handmaid's Tale and SNL. We wonder if anyone is still watching The Handmaid's Tale. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about Carl Lumbly getting snubbed for his work in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Only Don Cheadle got a nomination in the guest actor category, but Carl was also submitted for supporting actor. Some of the acting categories had a lot of nominees. The Emmy rules state that there need to be the same number of nominees in the paired performer categories. Chandra says Mindy Kaling was snubbed for Never Have I Ever. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez: Minutes 27:45 to 31 Ben Affleck was seen out with Jennifer Lopez's daughter, Emme. Ben's son Samuel, 9, was also there. Here's a link to the photos of Emme that Chandra mentioned. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about Ben and J.Lo. Jennifer recently did interviews saying she was fine on her own, but her actions say otherwise. Comments of the Week: Minutes 31:00 to 37 My comment of the week is by Evenstar and is about Owen Wilson. Chandra's comment of the week is from Sunday on the post about Prince Charles intending to have dinner with Prince William. Thanks for listening bitches!

Produced by Alex Greer and directed by Joe Saunders, THE PENNY BLACK is a documentary that sounds like it was written by the best of mystery writers. When Will is handed a mysterious package from his neighbour and asked to watch it, he never imagined that it would contain a million-dollar stamp collection. As Will searches for the truth about the package, so too does the film question whether or not he's as innocent as they once thought. In this 1on1, we speak to Greer and Saunders about what we value, what they were thinking throughout the process and what they think they would've done in the same situation.

Check out my Access Brokerage, Inc. blog post for more details and analysis: http://abiblog.abuyeragent.com/is-residential-real-estate-heading-for-another-bubble/ YES....for the next 2 years....don't see a repeat of 2007 crash...maybe some form of adjustment...different conditions altogether. A price bubble is a speculative mania situation in which asset prices appear to be based on implausible or inconsistent views about the future. How high can local home prices go? Who knows, but they will stop some day...and flatten out...probably after the hyper-inflation of printing money at the federal government level. No, we are not in another housing bubble Credit-worthy borrowers - look at the credit scores for mortgage originations. Housing supply - The supply of existing home sales on the market is as low as its ever been U.S. consumer is in better shape than they’ve ever been coming out of a recession. Yes, Real estate investor who shorted subprime mortgages says this housing boom is in a bubble, too Recently, Google searches for “When is the housing market going to crash?” have spiked dramatically. When Will the Housing Market Correct? In Canada, the price-to-income ratio is at a 40-year high. The average house price is seven times greater than the average household income. How is it in the United States? If you’re wondering when the housing market will correct, it may be time to cut your exposure to residential real estate. America’s Housing Market Is Officially Over-Heating Everywhere. How Long Will It Last? “Prices can’t keep going up forever,” says Redfin’s Marr, “Even when the fundamentals are sustainable like they are now. Strong increases in mortgage rates, which are likely coming soon, will inevitably cool home appreciation and bring prices back in line with wages.” So...what's the answer? What did I say in my earlier podcasts...IT ALL DEPENDS! Financial experts and real estate analysts often use a simple rule of thumb to decide if real estate is overvalued: the price-to-income ratio. Put simply, the average price of a house in your city should not exceed four times the average income. If it does, the property market is overvalued. Ordinary families may struggle to pay their mortgage if the ratio is too high. Home Price to Median Household Income Ratio (US) 4-27-2021 update: When will the real estate bubble burst? It won't, says veteran real estate appraiser 5-2-2021 update: Is the US headed toward a new housing bubble?

In today’s Solidarity Fridays episode, the typical Solidarity Fridays format is switched up again, this time with Joe interviewing podcast host and psychiatrist specializing in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, Craig Heacock. Will Hall's 2 recent SF episodes spurred a lot of conversation, and led to Heacock reaching out to Psychedelics Today to counter some of Hall's points, and stand up a bit on behalf of psychiatry. He feels that while psychiatry isn't perfect, saying to replace it isn't helpful, and doesn't feel that anyone in psychiatry is saying a pill will fix anything, but rather, that if psychedelics can help people get in touch with buried trauma (something that typically takes a lot of time and relationship/trust-building and often still doesn't work), then shouldn't we not only be treating them like medicine, but also learning as much as we possibly can about them? He points out some of the most obvious flaws with our model of psychiatry (and how we deal with mental health in general), discusses the barriers stopping physicians from learning more about ketamine, looks at the "spiritual emergency vs. psychotic break" argument from a different perspective, talks about what he sees in his practice and how much ketamine has helped his clients, and really brings home one of Will Hall's main points from a different perspective- while Hall talked about how science isn't always the answer because of how much nuance there is from person to person, he points out the amount of nuance in how mental health physicians treat clients, how clients arrived at their mental state in the first place, and how differently they respond, both with or without psychedelics. Whether you felt Will Hall brought a lot of interesting ideas to the table or hated those episodes, this is the yin to those episodes' yang. Notable Quotes “I think a lot of psychiatrists are just trying to keep their head above water, which, I think, they would much more enjoyably keep their head above water if they would use ketamine in their practices.” “We may never understand the mind-brain connection fully, but don’t we want to try?” “We’re finding with ayahuasca work (a lot of psychedelic work) that some people are going to these sessions and their conscious brain is saying ‘oh yea, there’s no trauma,’ and we’re finding out that there’s some serious trauma that’s just underneath the surface. And again, if we don’t know that, how can we get to the roots of anything? ...Almost like we use a CT scan to see what’s happening in your innermost self, it’d be interesting to think of using psychedelics as sort of a psychological diagnostic tool to say: 'Is there trauma in there?'”“When Will is saying, ‘Why are we trying to address trauma with a pill?’ I don’t think any of us are. I don’t think anybody on the MAPS study or I don’t know, people in the psilocybin studies- I really don’t think anybody is thinking, 'Ooo we’re going to fix PTSD with psilocybin!' or 'We’re going to fix trauma with this 150 mg MDMA capsule!’ Nobody’s thinking that. What we’re thinking is: this is a catalyst, [and] resources are limited. ...We need to get in there quickly and get working on this, and that’s what’s so exciting to me about psychedelics coming online with mental health, is that we can get down to business quickly and not have to spend so much time trying to get past these defenses.” “Capitalism is messy and psychiatry is messy and psychedelics are messy and people are messy, and isn’t that ok? Can’t we just accept that and not default to this sort of pan-negativism and finger-pointing and blaming? Because, again, we’re all on the same team. We want the same thing. We want people to thrive and we want to dial down psychological despair as much as we can.” Links Craigheacockmd.com Back From the Abyss podcast Support the show Patreon Leave us a review on Facebook or iTunes Share us with your friends Join our Facebook group - Psychedelics Today group – Find the others and create community. Leadership can be more pain than glory and few truly appreciate the demands of a good leader. Anyone seeking to be in leadership (or those already leading) should ask themselves the following important questions: Who - Who are you- Who do you want to lead-Who has lead you-Who is leading you now? What - What are your qualifications that validates your desire for leadership? Where - What is your ultimate destination for those whom you wish to lead? What is your end-goal? When - Will you serve only when it's convenient? Are you a 9-5 leader? Or will you serve when it is not easy or convenient, when the cameras are not rolling, when the crowd is not large, when your allies are not present? Why - What is your why and motivation? Are you leading for clout, ego, vanity or personal access? Can your 'why' make you vulnerable? How - How will you lead? What is your leadership style? Momentum behind President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan is picking up as Israel prepares to start its new government. But this week President Trump reiterated that Israel annexing portions of the West Bank is contingent on its acceptance of a Palestinian state. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been missing from official duties for a few weeks, leading analysts to say this could be an opportunity for China to exert more power over the regime. A new report on global defense spending shows both Russia and Germany surging in their military expenditures, pointing to a prophesied future conflict between the two. We also talk about the collapse of oil markets undermining the power of the U.S. dollar, a new free-trade deal between Mexico and the EU, Germany cracking down on the Islamic group Hezbollah, and U.S. food producers having to throw out perfectly good food because of coronavirus restrictions. In today’s show, Chris interviews Will Scully, President, William Scully Limited. This show starts with Will sharing how he got enrolled in Student Works. Will reveals how he as a teenager was unable to be in charge and assume responsibility. Until Student Works came along. This segment of the show is particularly interesting as Will shares why his Student Works stint has proved to be far more useful than his economics degree. Can a college education equip you with the skills necessary to survive in the real world? Next, Will shares some interesting information about his family business, William Scully Limited. William Scully Limited is a 140-year old Canadian regimental outfitter. When Will joined William Scully, the business was in dire straits. Lack of systematization and a refusal to change with the times were some of the reasons for this dismal situation. So, how did Will manage to turn around his business? Are the challenges of managing an existing business significantly different compared to starting a whole new business? Particularly, Will talks quite a bit about how prudent financial guidance helped him streamline operations. We also reveal how small and medium-sized businesses can attract the best possible talent. Towards the end of the show, we share some critical attributes that truly define a leader of tomorrow. Tune in for some excellent insights! Scarlett Russell (Sunday Times Style and Secrets of the Side Hustle podcast) and Anna Smith (Girls on Film, Metro and Time Out) return to Flixwatcher to review Scarlett’s choice Good Will Hunting. Good Will Hunting is a 1997 film written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and directed by Gus Van Sant. Damon plays Will, a genius with issues who works as a janitor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) who solves impossible mathematical puzzles for fun. When he’s not doing that, he spends his time drinking and fighting with Affleck’s Chuckie. When Will solves a particularly difficult mathematical puzzle and is found out he is given an opportunity to turn his life around with the support of Robin Williams’ Sean, a psychology teacher. Minnie Driver makes his life more complicated and gives a refreshing performance as Will’s love interest Skylar. It would be a shame for this film to be remembered for its association with Harvey Weinstein’s Miramax, rather than the brilliant and nuanced (and Oscar winning) performance from Robin Williams or that Damon wrote this when he was 20. While it is debatable as to whether this has aged well it definitely shows how much things in Hollywood in a short period of time, it is universally agreed that the loss of Robin Williams is felt by everyone. Scores [supsystic-tables id=141] Despite the mixed reactions for Good Will Hunting, it still scored well. Flixwatcher scored it generously for recommendability and there some high scores for small screen. Good Will Hunting scores 4.3 (exactly!) What do you guys think? Have you seen Good Will Hunting? It has been nearly two years since North Korea tested a nuclear weapon or a long-range missile. This could be attributed to United States President Donald Trump’s efforts to forge a peace deal. But lately, North Korea has been testing short-range missiles—a development that actually could help reshape global politics. Is America heading for recession? Some say it’s inevitable—President Trump says this is being manufactured to try to hurt his chance for reelection. We look at some fundamental realities that show who is right. To unify the people of Europe, the European Commission has been promoting and celebrating Europe’s cultural heritage. The downside is how closely the Continent’s cultural achievements are linked with its military history, specifically that of the Holy Roman Empire. And I conclude by sharing an article about how today’s kids don’t know how good they have it. Links [2:16] North Korea’s Latest Missile Tests (17 minutes) [19:14] America Due for Recession? Back in 2012, Will and I were sitting across from each other in a coffee shop discussing the big picture future of my business, Nancy Ray Photography. We were at a crossroads trying to decide if we wanted to stay on the quote unquote, "Husband and wife team" route, that most photographers take, or if we wanted to do something different: take a risk and hire associate photographers to form a team. When Will and I began talking about what it would look like to actually hire someone, to actually grow our team, we started with a list of all of the risk involved and all of our fears. Basically we made a massive list of all the downsides to doing this. We knew it would take a lot of time and a lot of training. We knew that we would be inviting other people in to the business that we've built, that I would share all my secrets, that we didn't have a guarantee that it would work, that we would be changing something that's working just fine. We realized that we'd have to release control over some things, that I would have to trust other people to edit the photos that I always edited, the photos that I take, really letting go of my creative control. I'd have to let go of the methods and processes that I learned the hard way with sweat and tears and I would just hand it over to someone and teach them. It honestly felt like I was giving away too much, even if I hired them. But then we started making a list of what life would look like if we did build a team. We wouldn't have to be the ones to shoot every single wedding. We could serve more couples and more families. Will, my husband, would have the freedom to step away from Nancy Ray Photography if he ever wanted to do different work. We were so nervous and we honestly didn't know which direction that we wanted to go. There were pros and cons to both options and Will and I, unlike a lot of spouses, really worked well together. So after all of that, we decided to take the risk and build an associate team. It ended up being one of the best decisions I've ever made in my business, and today, I'm going to tell you why.
