The MacRumors Show

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we look at what to expect from the 2025 Apple Watch lineup when new models launch in the fall. The Apple Watch Series 11 is anticipated to offer hypertension detection as the device's next major health monitoring advancement, potentially with AI-powered health-coaching features. It is also rumored to offer a new chip and, on cellular models, 5G redcap connectivity. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is expected to receive these new capabilities, as well as features that came to last year's Series 10 model such as a brighter display with a faster refresh rate and a redesigned metal back to facilitate faster charging. However, iPhone-like satellite connectivity features are rumored to be the biggest upgrade for this year's new Apple Watch Ultra. The third-generation Apple Watch SE is rumored to feature a "new look," likely with an all-new plastic casing to bring down the device's cost. It is also likely to feature different size options, either by reducing the bezels around the display or enlarging the screens similar to the Apple Watch Series 7. It should also feature a new chip and a lower price point. We also look at the latest rumors about iPadOS 19, where a macOS-style menu bar is expected to appear on-screen when the iPad is connected to a Magic Keyboard. The iPhone could also be getting a Stage Manager-like feature when connected to an external display. (00:00) - iPadOS 19 Menu Bar & Stage Manager for iPhone? Paul Stenhouse: Open AI's open to buying Chrome, upgrades to Apple's iPad, EU imposes mandatory labels on tech products

OpenAI would be open to buying Google's Chrome browser Talk about an instant audience - imagine logging into your Chrome web browser and instead of getting Google results, you get ChatGPT. The DOJ ruled last year that Google is a monopolist in Search – now comes the search to decide what to do with Chrome. OpenAI told the judge the company would be interested in taking it over. Open AI, with ChatGPT, wants to be the way you find and access information on the web. Attempts to partner with Google Search have been unsuccessful – they only have access to Bing. Only trouble, Open AI says it's not as good as Google. The line between iPad & Mac could be about to be blurred even further One of the regular Apple leakers has as a scoop: a menubar could be coming to the iPad when the magic keyboard is connected. Assuming it functions like the Mac version, it gives quick access to app and operating system. They also say iPadOS 19 will enhance Stage Manager, the feature that allows a user to plug their iPad into an external monitor. These two changes would make it the most laptop-like iPad we've seen. Devices in the EU are about to get a mandatory label on the box Just how long will that new phone or tablet's battery last? You'll now get a way to compare from device to device with standardized labels. The labels will say how many times the battery is rated to be recharged, how energy efficient the device is, and how long the battery should last each day. It'll also rate now repairable and durable the device is. They will also impose "ecodesign" requirements to make devices more resilient, including being protected from splashes of water, dust, scratches, and drops. All devices on sale across the EU from June 8 will need the label. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

From Amy:My junior year in high school, we read Thornton Wilder's play Our Town in English class. My senior year, that same English teacher, Carol Ottoson, directed the play and cast me as the Stage Manager. That role, which spends so much time reflecting on details in life and their meaning, had a huge influence on how I see the world, and I'm certain that's rubbed off on me as a writer of creative nonfiction: how I make sense of small details, the things that matter, the people around me, and how they all connect to each other. It seems to me that I would be a different person if not for that experience, and the understanding that I had a voice that carries, and that I can use it for good in the world. So when I went with my husband to a recent production of Our Town at a neighboring high school, I was delighted to run into my old castmate (and previous podcast guest) Cory Busse, himself a writer, whose daughter was now in the show. We both agreed that this play was something special, something that had a huge impact on both of us, and something that holds up across time. So I reached out to our former English teacher, Carol Ottoson, and the three of us recorded a reunion conversation. It's the perfect introduction to my latest podcast season.I am reminded all the time that story is powerful. Connection to each other is powerful. And we have no idea the impact that stories will have on us until long after they're told. Some stories have our attention a moment. But some stories—and some people—make an indelible mark. And if that's not a worthy reason to make our artwork and write our stories and engage in creative play with each other, I'm not sure what is. Carol Ottoson (Otto) retired from teaching, coaching, and directing after 36 years in the classroom, including 24 in the Prior Lake Savage (MN) School District. She continues to sub in the district. She directed theater for thirty years and coached speech for 34 years. Carol and her husband Keith have been married for over 51 years and have two adult children, Heather and Andy, two sons-in-law, Collan and Branden, and two grandsons, Zach and Jameson. Carol and her husband enjoy traveling and are frequently on the road somewhere. Carol also occasionally preaches at her local church (htumc.org). They are a reconciling congregation, and promote inclusivity.Follow Carol on Facebook  or email her directly at ottoem50@aol.com.  Cory Busse was once voted "Sexiest Man Alive" by Cory Busse Magazine whose audience boasts more than zero Cory Busses.Follow "Tales from the Christmas Village," a way to keep the spirit of snark alive in your heart all year long.   Amy Hallberg is the author of Tiny Altars: A Midlife Revival and German Awakening: Tales from an American Life. Text Sue what you think! One of the biggest shifts for unschooling parents is moving away from directing learning and stepping into the subtle but powerful art of noticing. Instead of orchestrating every next step, we learn to pay attention—to what excites our child, what sparks their curiosity, and how they naturally engage with the world. This shift is what makes true self-directed, interest-based learning possible. It's not about following a prescribed curriculum but about recognizing that your child is already learning naturally, and trusting that process.Turns out, unschooling parents have picked up some secrets from stage managers—who knew? Just like a great stage manager works behind the scenes to create the perfect conditions for a performance, unschooling parents learn that their role isn't to direct every move but to notice, anticipate, and support. The real magic happens not in controlling the scene, but in tuning in to what's unfolding naturally—anticipating and adjusting, providing resources, and trusting that the star of the show (your child!) is already learning in their own way.In this episode, we'll explore: ✨ Why Noticing is more powerful than Directing ✨ How tuning in—rather than taking charge—leads to deeper learning & individualization ✨ How to support natural learning and curiosity without pushing or orchestrating ✨ How small shifts in your parenting role can make unschooling feel easier and be more effective

During Brandon Allmon-Jackson's major theatrical productions, he is never seen by the audiences. But as a stage manager fulfilling his dream of working on Broadway, he's the person most responsible for making sure big acts—including The Music Man, Back to the Future, and Sunset Boulevard—go off without a hitch. In the years since he graduated from Ball State in 2012, Brandon has applied the skills he learned in the classroom, along with his dedication and drive, to stand out in the competitive world of commercial theatre. He's also dedicated himself to providing more opportunities for artists of color. In this episode, Brandon talks about how the confidence he built and connections he made at his alma mater helped him advance professionally. In less than 10 years, he's gone from stage managing regional theater and cruise ship performances to working on the biggest shows on Broadway. Brandon also reveals why he's grateful for his humble Southern upbringing and how, by mentoring the next generation of talent at Ball State, he's giving back in a way that upholds the promise of Beneficence. If you enjoy this episode, please leave a review to support the show.
