We talk about what matters to us, and this should be true in our relationship with God, too. In this episode, join Wendy Hickox and me, Tosha Williams, as we ponder the invitation of Isaiah 12:4:  to declare, proclaim, praise and make known who God is. Thing is, God doesn't just want us to experience His goodness but to boldly proclaim Him to others. With our series "I Wills to Instill" as the backdrop, Wendy and I discuss what this can look like. Discipleship begins with a conversation, and this podcast challenges us to skip the intimidation and get to these conversations that really matter. Listen in, then reflect on what God is saying to you through this conversation guide about Isaiah 12:4.********************I WILLS TO INSTILL:  "I WILL Speak Him"“And on that day you will say, ‘Give thanks to the LORD; proclaim his name! Make his works known among the peoples. Declare that his name is exalted.'” Isaiah 12:4 CSBSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives!  In this conversation, let's process what it means to make our faith more than just a private experience. Isaiah 12:4 reminds us that, as followers of Jesus, we don't just keep God's goodness to ourselves—we speak Him by sharing what He has done in our lives.WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture?  This verse talks about a day when God establishes Jesus on His throne. Thing is, if He is on the throne of our hearts, then that day can occur today. In multiple ways, God's people can “Speak Him,” making Him known through our words. ~ What are the different kinds of speech referred to in this verse? What do His works include in your life? Is Jesus ruling your heart now?  WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? If we don't talk about what matters to us, how will others know? Jesus' command “Go make disciples… teach them to obey everything I have commanded you,” requires words. We can exalt His name through our testimonies and make His works known through our Jesus stories. ~ How does it feel to talk about Jesus to someone else? How can speaking about your faith strengthen it?  HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? We don't have to hammer people with the Bible. We don't have to be rude, unloving or know it alls. “I Will Speak Him” is a decision to seize every opportunity to speak up about the Lord and His Word. This may be as brief as a few words or as long as a heart-to-heart conversation. ~ What intimidates you about speaking up about Jesus?  SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! “Seek Him” should always lead to “Speak Him.” Speaking about God is not just for pastors or missionaries—it is for every believer! This week, let's look for opportunities to share how God has been at work in our lives. Whether through a simple conversation, a prayer with a friend, or a post on social media, let's choose to speak Him!______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. Today I - Tosha Williams - mark a 50-year anniversary of faith that began when I was just four years old. Join me as I reflect on the incredible milestone of walking with Jesus for half a century. This episode is about my 'spiritual Jubilee,' a biblical tradition that has guided my last twelve months. Journey with me through the profound experiences and unexpected joys, like the serendipitous gift of my granddaughter named Jubilee, that have marked this sacred passage of time.Throughout this episode, I'll share my past five decades with Jesus - - - but the story's not over. The best is yet to come. Whether you're new to faith in Christ, are considering it, or have your own decades-long journey, let's spend a few minutes together. Here's to 50 years of faithfulness and the promise of what the next 50 years might hold.****************Often, in posting a podcast episode, we provide written devotion-driven-discipleship content. For this week, we encourage you to dive into this one your own. Spend some time with Jesus meditating on the truth in the following verse, Joshua 1:8. "Seek Him" using the three questions as guides. Ask Him to speak to you through His Word, and listen to what the Spirit of the Living God says to you. Maybe even write down what He impresses on your heart. Then, remember, with the Family Disciple Me ministry, "Seek Him" always leads a Christ-follower to "Speak Him." Share with someone else what God is showing you. Here's the first Scripture highlighted in this episode:"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:9)SEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives!  Let's spend some time with the Lord asking Him these three questions about this Scripture verse:WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter?HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth?SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! Let's share with someone else what God is showing us.______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. What if the gifts we unwrap each Christmas could teach us something profound about love? Join me, Tosha Williams, in this story of my daughter Annalarie, whose childhood curiosity about our family's Christmas gifts is a metaphor for us to understand love. Let's examine real love versus the counterfeit versions often presented to us. Listen in, reflect on love in your own life (using the following guide), then be encouraged to let this devotion lead you into talking about love with your family and friendships this Christmas season.*****************“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His faithful love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1 CSBSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives!  The world offers all kinds of gifts labeled “love,” but God's faithful love is entirely unique. As we look at “The Gifts of Christmas," let's "unwrap" God's gift of love and seek Him about how He loves us!WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? God is good and gives really good gifts. We can see His generosity in so many ways. God's greatest gift is His love that never stops. The people of Israel rejoiced in this, as the leaders would proclaim "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good," and then name a way God showed His love. After each gift, the people would respond:  "His faithful love endures forever."  ~ What are some gifts you've received that have stopped working? Name some ways God has helped you. What can you thank God for right now?WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? While other gifts wear out or break, God's love always lasts. Scripture says, “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life…” (Psalm 23:6a NIV). Every single day, God's love follows us, not just at Christmas, but always. Long after even the best presents are forgotten, the gift of God's love will still be ours. ~ Can you imagine fifty years from now? What does it feel like to know that even years from today, God will still be loving you? HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? Scripture reminds us, “Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children, and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us…” (Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV). Because God loves us, we can love others. As we unwrap His gift of love in our own lives, we can share it with others, at Christmas and always! ~ What about God's example stands out to you? What is one way you "walk in the way of love"? SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others!  As we lead others in Devotion Driven Discipleship, Psalm 136 is an example for conversations about God's love. With those entrusted to you, share different ways He's shown you His love. After each example, repeat the refrain, “His faithful love endures forever.” This is a way to “Seek Him Speak Him”!______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. Embracing the JOY of Jesus will transform our lives, not just during the Christmas season but all year round. Let's explore this truth, drawing inspiration from the story of the angels and the shepherds, who discovered the joy of saying "yes" to God's invitation. Let's unpack how joy is not just a fleeting emotion but a deep, intrinsic part of our relationship with Him. Whether you're navigating the complexities of life or facing moments of loneliness, this episode invites you to consider how accepting God's invitation can lead you to a lasting and fulfilling joy.**********“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with JOY in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” Psalm 16:11 NIVSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! Christmas is known as the happiest time of the year, but what about the rest of the year? What gives us true happiness? Thing is, Jesus came at Christmas bringing the gift of His presence. This can fill us with joy at Christmas and always. Let's spend some time unwrapping the gift of joy through His Word!WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? God doesn't just give occasional joy; He promises to fill us up with joy as we stay close to Him. He helps us know what paths to follow, and He gives us joy as we walk with Him along the way. ~ Does God sound like a generous gift giver in our key verse? What stands out to you from our verse? Where is joy found? WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? The truth of our key verse mattered so much to the Apostle Peter that he recited it in his testimony centuries later (Acts 2:28). Joy in God's presence has mattered to generations of His people, and we can choose for this to matter to us, too. ~ How does this verse encourage you? What does God's presence feel like to you? What type of path do you want to walk?HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? Each of us gets to decide every day whether or not we will stay close to Jesus. Being in His presence means being mindful of Him, relying on Him, talking to Him and spending time with Him in His Word. This is His path that keeps us close to Him and will result in giving us joy. ~ How are you choosing to stay close to Jesus? How much joy do you have today? SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! After Christmas, we put away the decorations, but the joy of God's presence can decorate our lives all year long. As we “Seek Him,” we can pray with joy (Philippians 1:4), ask for more joy (Psalm 86:4) and sing with joy, because “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy” (Psalm 126:2a, 3 NIV). God's gift of joy is always available, and we can “open” this gift and experience His joy again and again. What's more, our joy with Him can overflow so that we “Speak Him” and share His joy with others, at Christmastime and always. ______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. Even during the happiest season of the year, we can experience fear and anxiety. God has a gift for us in the midst of this, though. Join me (Tosha Williams) as I share a personal journey of wrestling with sadness only to discover in a new way the power of God's peace. Even when circumstances don't change, His peace will change us. In this episode, let's "unwrap" His peace. Seek Him Speak Him!**********“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace” Psalm 29:11 NIVSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble,” and even in the best of times like Christmas, life can be challenging. However, God gives us a special gift, for in the same verse Jesus also said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have PEACE” (John 16:33 NIV). Jesus came to bring peace, so let's “Seek Him” about this gift.WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? God gives His people so many gifts, including, as our key verse says, the gift of peace. This peace is God's blessing for those who belong to Him. His peace is not just an occasional experience when life is good; it's His gift of completeness and wholeness throughout our lives. ~ According to our key verse, who receives God's gift of peace? Are you one of God's people? Where do you need God's peace today? WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? The world teaches us that peace is the absence of problems; God's Word teaches us that peace is His gift in spite of problems. Jesus promised: “PEACE I leave with you; my PEACE I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27 NIV). ~ What's the hardest thing you've gone through? What does Jesus say about this? Why can you trust Him in hard times?HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? Scripture says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the PEACE of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV). Instead of fixating on hard things, God wants us to talk to Him about these. ~ What must we give God in order to receive His peace? Is there something making you anxious or afraid right now? Let's pray!SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! One of God's promises to those who “Seek Him” is:  “All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace” (Isaiah 54:13 NIV). As we learn to unwrap God's gift of peace, others can learn from our example. This Christmas and always, let's be sure to spend time being taught by the Lord. As He fills us with His peace, then our loved ones can learn to experience His peace, too! ______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. This Christmas, let's unwrap and examine some of the most profound gifts God has given us, starting with the gift of HOPE. In this podcast, I (Tosha Williams) share about the  surprising origins of hope in Genesis 1:9, which caught me off guard and has captivated my heart. Listen in to this episode, then seek the Lord in the following "Devotion Driven Discipleship" guide. Then be encouraged to begin a meaningful conversation about HOPE with someone God has entrusted to you!****“The Lord is good to those whose HOPE is in him, to the one who seeks him” Lamentations 3:25 NIVSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! The Bible teaches us that God gives us a gift that He wants us to anticipate, look for and hold onto, not just at Christmastime, but throughout life. Let's “Seek Him” in this conversation for what He wants to show us about His gift of HOPE! WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? Just like we anticipate the fun of Christmas, God wants us to anticipate what He is going to do. This kind of watchful expectation is called HOPE! God promises goodness and blessing to people who hope in Him and seek Him, and this is something we can all do! ~ What are you looking forward to this Christmas? How hard is it to wait? What are you looking forward to God doing in your life? How are waiting and hoping similar?WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? Sometimes we may be disappointed by other hopes and expectations, but God promises:  “I am the Lord; those who HOPE in me will not be disappointed” (Isaiah 49:23b). When we anticipate how God is going to work in our lives, and when we wait expectantly for Him to fulfill His promises, we can know that He will always, always, always do what He has said He will do.” ~ How does this truth encourage you? What is a promise from God that gives you hope?HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? Each of us can choose to watch, wait and hope in the Lord, saying:  “As for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me” (Micah 7:7). We “unwrap” God's gift of hope as we experience His answers to our prayers, His help in hard times, and the fulfillment of His promises. ~ Do you really believe that God hears you? How does knowing God sees and hears you give you hope?SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! Scripture says, “In your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the HOPE that you have…” (1 Peter 3:15). Thing is, as we unwrap hope, we shouldn't just keep it to ourselves. We can share God's hope with our families, and we can also be prepared to share God's hope with others He places in our paths. Be encouraged to share the gift of God's hope intentionally in Devotion Driven Discipleship with those He entrusts to you. ______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. How does the reality of God's presence impact you today? This question is central  to the significance of my grandson Zion's name. Though Zion has historically been a symbol of joy and hope, today it seems its deeper meaning is lost. So join me as I talk about Zion and reflect on its joyful reality. As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let's reclaim the excitement surrounding Zion and allow it to guide us into a season rich with gratitude. *********WAYS TO PRAISEZion:  Celebrate God's Presence“Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things. Let this be known throughout the earth. Cry out and sing, citizen of ZION, for the Holy One of Israel is among you in his greatness.” Isaiah 12:5-6 CSBSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives!  Christ followers can rejoice because God is with us! Let's “Seek Him” about how the truth of ZION leads us in “Ways to Praise.”WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? God's children are citizens of a heavenly city, and, as we are on our journey there, God is with us here every step of the way! The biblical concept of Zion refers to His presence now and in eternity. ~ What is something special God has done in your life?  What is something glorious God has done in your life?WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? Each of us has sadness, sorrows and pain in our lives, but the reality of Zion is not just future tense. For believers, God is with us now, and this reality can bring us joy today no matter what's happening in our lives! ~ What about the hope of Zion encourages you today? Read aloud the six verses of Isaiah 12. What about this chapter speaks to joy and celebration? HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth?Isaiah 12 is about thanksgiving for God's many gifts, including comfort and salvation, joy and strength. Scripture says, “You have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God... to myriads of angels, a festive gathering” (Hebrews 12:22 CSB). When earth touches heaven, the result is celebration. Scripture promises, “The ransomed of the LORD will return and come to Zion with singing, crowned with unending joy. Joy and gladness will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee” (Isaiah 35:10 CSB). ~ What happens to the sorrow and sighing of Zion's citizens? What are some ways you can praise God right now? SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! Psalm 48 concludes, “Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers, consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation. For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭48‬:‭12‬-‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬). What are YOU telling the next generation about God's presence? This Thanksgiving season, join me, Tosha Williams, as I share some profound themes that arise from my grandchildren's names. These aren't just sentimental to my family; the names are powerful reminders of gratitude and thankfulness and, in this conversation series, "Ways to Praise."This series starts with this intro "Dumisani:  Praise the Lord!" then continues with "Jubilee:  Declare God's Favor". Thing is, Jubilee is the counterpoint to Psalm, both in my family and in our gratitude. This podcast episode explains how both together can impact our days and our praise! Listen in, then seek the Lord through this "devotion driven discipleship" conversation guide...*******“Be filled by the Spirit: speaking to one another in PSALMS, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music with your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for everything…” Ephesians 5:18b-20 CSBSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! Let's celebrate Thanksgiving with some psalms of praise this year. WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? A psalm is a biblical song, poem, declaration or prayer. The book of Psalms is the Jewish worship manual, and Christians are invited to use it in our worship, too! Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs can lead us in so many “Ways to Praise.” Singing is an outer expression of this praise, while making music with your heart is an inner expression of it. God wants us to do both! ~ How or when do YOU give thanks? What does it look like for you to live a life of worship? WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? Every psalm in God's Word somehow, someway, declares God's character. For instance, we can trust God because He is faithful (Psalm 1:6). We can rejoice because He is sovereign over everything in this world (Psalm 2:11-12), and so on. Thing is, when we are filled with His Spirit, what's on the inside will pour out in declarations like the psalms. ~ What does God's Word say about His Spirit in you (John 14:15-17)? How does praising God put music in your heart?HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? The psalms are such a meaningful, simple and beautiful way to praise the Lord. Ask God to highlight a psalm to you, then read it silently as a prayer and aloud as a declaration. ~ How do psalms lead to gratitude? What is one character trait of God that is especially meaningful to you? SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! Seek Him Speak Him" is so clearly shown in our key Scripture. Quite literally, the Word tells us to speak with psalms and give thanks. We don't just believe in God; we speak up about Him. This episode explores the significance of Jubilee, a concept that has profoundly shaped my life and faith journey as I mark my 50th year as a Christ follower. Celebrate alongside me (Tosha Williams) as I recount the unexpected joy of welcoming twins during my personal year of Jubilee. I hope my sweet Jubilee will inspire you to consider what God has done and is doing in your life! What's more, as we enter the Thanksgiving season, after you listen to this episode, then spend some time seeking the Lord guided by this conversation...******************Messiah's Jubilee: “The Spirit of the Lord God is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.” Isaiah 61:1-2a CSBSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! We all enjoy good news, and the good news of Jubilee is redemption, hope and freedom. As we look at “Ways to Praise," let's seek the Lord about how He wants us to join the Jubilee then proclaim the good news of His favor to others!WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? Isaiah summarized what Jubilee is all about:  healing, liberty, freedom, and goodness from God. “To proclaim the year of the Lord's favor” is to let others know about God's gifts, so they can be invited into these blessings, too. ~ What are some of the blessings listed in our key verses? Has God given you any of these this past year? Have you told someone else about this favor? WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? We all want blessing and goodness in our lives, and the way God gives these is through Jesus. This is good news we can experience with Him today as we seek Him. ~ In what ways does healing for the brokenhearted matter to you? What kind of freedom would you love to experience or see?  What are you experiencing with Jesus today?HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? This Scripture says, "The Lord has anointed me to bring good news." This calling is on all of us who follow Christ, because He told us to go tell others everything He's taught us (Matthew 28:20). So think about what He has done in your life this past year. Sharing your Jesus Story is one way you can proclaim His favor! ~ Have you experienced any blessings from God this year? What freedom, hope or redemption has He given you? How can you share this good news ?SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! There is so much to learn about the Jubilee celebration, but, for now, let's focus on talking about the good news of God's favor. Can a simple Uber ride turn into a life-changing moment? Join me, Tosha Williams, as I recount an unexpected divine encounter I experienced during my very first Uber journey, where I met Dumasani, a driver whose name means "Praise the Lord." This serendipitous meeting was an answer to my prayers regarding this year's Family Disciple Me Thanksgiving conversations. God often works through everyday moments to affirm our faith journeys, and this year, He used this Uber ride to affirm the FDM gratitude series for me. My new friend Dumasani's meaningful, Zimbabwean name confirmed my desire to use some other really special names - like Jubilee, Psalm, Zion and Melodia - as welcomes into praise this Thanksgiving season. We'll explore these "Ways to Praise" in upcoming podcast episodes, but we'll start here with Dumisani:  Praise the Lord! Spend a few moment with me as I share this introduction, then listen to what God's Spirit wants to say to you directly through His Word. *******************“Hallelujah! My soul, praise the LORD. I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing to my God as long as I live.” Psalm 146:1-2 CSBSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! While praise may seem obvious at Thanksgiving, let's look at it from some slightly different angles this month, starting with these first couple verses in Psalm 146. Seek the Lord about what He wants to say to you about praise and thanksgiving!WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? This psalm which models intentional praise and thankfulness. Praise flowed from the author's innermost being, and this person pledged to praise, not just for a day or holiday, but for all life long. ~ Do you praise God from your very core; why or why not? How long have you praised Him? What are some of the things this psalmist praised God for in Psalm 146? WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? Praise changes the focus of our hearts, gets our eyes off ourselves and sets our attention on the One who can help us. Praise will change our hearts from bitter to better, from hopeless to happy, from grumbling to grateful. ~ Are you more grumbling or grateful? Do you need any heart change this Thanksgiving season? HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? Psalm 146 is a testimony of how one person praised the Lord and why they praised Him. Godly praise calls forth godly praise, and we're going to talk about ways to praise in the coming days. ~ How is God asking you to respond right now?SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! Thanksgiving season is a great time to welcome others into praising God with us! Psalm 34:3 says, “Oh magnify the LORD with me. Let us exalt his name together.” Who can you say this to? Who will you invite into the “Ways to Praise” conversations? Be intentional about that this month, using one of the "Ways to Praise" conversations each week!______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. The simple act of doing chores can instill lifelong values of responsibility and stewardship in children. Join me, Tosha Williams, as I share a little about my family's personal journey on the farm, where every chore was a lesson in reliability and responsibility, inspired by biblical principles from Matthew 25:29. In our family, the journey from kid > employee > manager > boss > owner has been a deliberate continuum that applies not just to our kids but to us grownups as well.Listen in on this podcast and ask God how He wants you to engage your own family in this "devotion driven discipleship" conversation about responsibility! Use the following content to guide you in this character conversation!********************CHARACTER CONVERSATIONS:  Responsible “To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.” Matthew 25:29 NLTSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! Everyone has been given something, but not everyone is responsible with these blessings. What about us? Are we using well what we've been given? Let's consider what Jesus said about being a responsible steward in Matthew 25.WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus taught a parable about being responsible and wise with what we've been given. - Take a few moments to read Matthew 25:14-30. Describe some ways people used their gifts. What types of people get talents and gifts? What are some things that have been entrusted to you:  time, money, resources, opportunities, health, education… WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? We are to be good stewards or caretakers of what God has given us. Everything belongs to Him, and whether or not we use well what He's given us will determine whether or not He will give us more. ~ According to this passage, how does God feel about us wasting what He's given us? Does wastefulness matter to you; why or why not? What is God's measure for whether or not He is going to give us more? HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? God entrusts us with more as He sees us be responsible with what He has already given us. If we want more abundance in our lives, then we must intentionally be responsible with the abundance He has already given. ~ What are some ways you're taking care of what God has given you?  Name three ways you can better steward what you've been given. SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! God has entrusted each of us with people, time and opportunities. How are we being responsible with these blessings? Are we using well the opportunities He's given us to invest in those we love? Thing is, meaningful, intentional discipleship conversations about God and His Word are an investment in today and in eternity. Speak Him!______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. What does it mean to be trustworthy in our challenging world? Let's explore this profound theme of being someone that others can rely on. In this episode, I (Tosha Williams) reflect on my own family and some of the character conversations that have shaped and continue to shape our lives. We will look at the wisdom of Luke 16:10, a profound Scripture that encourages us to embody faithfulness in both small and great matters. Listen in on this podcast episode, then we challenge you to "Seek Him Speak Him." Use the following conversation guide as a resource to get you going in devotion driven discipleship!********************“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” Luke 16:10 NIVSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! We live in a world where people lie, deceive, cheat and steal, all the while with smiles on their faces. Sometimes it's hard to know who to trust, isn't it? Thing is, though others around us may lack integrity, God wants His children to be trustworthy. Let's “Seek Him” about this character trait through Luke 16:10. WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture? The word trusted in this verse is about being faithful, reliable and honest. The Bible says that having this sort of character in small things shows whether or not we'll have this sort of character in big areas of our lives. ~ What are some small things in your life right now? Why does Scripture say these little details matter? What about something like little white lies -  can you be a trustworthy person with these? (Why or why not?)WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? God is trustworthy; He is always faithful, reliable, honest and true. He wants us to have these character traits in our lives, too. When we choose to be trustworthy people, we follow His example and show the world a picture of what He is like. ~ Does it matter to you to be known as a trustworthy person; why or why not? Do you believe God is trustworthy? What are some ways He has earned your trust?HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? Details matter, even the smallest details. So we can practice being trustworthy in all the little details, as so that we will know how to be trustworthy in the big things. This applies to every area of life, so we always have opportunities to learn and grow in this character trait. ~ How are you seeking to earn others' trust? Are you true to your word? What is one way you have integrity when no one is looking? What makes you a trustworthy person?SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! Speaking of trust, God has entrusted every single one of us with other people. That means He's placed them in our care, for His glory and their good. Are you trustworthy with this? If so, what are you investing in the precious ones entrusted to you? ______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. Are you a sure and secure person? Wherever you are on the confidence scale, can you imagine living with unshakable confidence, not based on your own abilities but rooted in something far greater? Inspired by the classic film "The Sound of Music" and the empowering song "I Have Confidence," I (Tosha Williams) reflect on how these influenced my own life and family. Yet, we pivot to explore what it truly means to find confidence through God's promises. Through the lens of Philippians 1:6 and Psalm 27, we examine how to build a life on the foundation of God's faithfulness - a foundation that becomes our own strength. Listen in to this episode, then have a "devotion driven discipleship" conversation with someone entrusted to you - - - use these conversation notes to get the discussion started and see where the trail leads you!************ “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6 NIVSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! Some people are naturally confident and sure of themselves; others of us struggle to know our worth or purpose in life. Thing is, God wants His children to find their confidence in Him and His work in us. Let's “Seek Him” starting with Philippians 1:6 about this character trait of being confident.WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture?  To be confident is to be persuaded and convinced about a specific truth. For a Christ follower, that truth is that God started a good work in us and promises to finish it through us. ~ What are some ways that people typically get confidence? Are you one of God's children? What are two good things He has started in you? WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? Confidence for a Christian is not just about being sure of who you are, but being sure about what God is doing in and through you. As we follow Him, God wants us to be convinced that He is at work in every aspect of our lives. Jeremiah 17:7 says, “Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.” ~ What are you placing your confidence in? What does this look like in your life?HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? We can be confident in meeting life's challenges by leaning into our relationship with the LORD and asking His strength. ~ Read Psalm 27 and list the areas in which God's strength helped David be confident. Which of these can apply to your life? How is God calling you to place your confidence in Him? SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! As we grow with the Lord in being teachable, hard working and courageous, He will begin to fill us with confidence to do what He has created and called us to do. This includes speaking Him into the lives of others He has entrusted to us. Who can you encourage in the Lord today? Who can you inspire to be confident in Him? ______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. Ever felt paralyzed by fear despite your skills and experiences? That's exactly where I found myself on my podcasting journey, even with a background in public speaking and broadcast journalism. This episode is all about navigating those moments of doubt and discouragement, drawing inspiration from the biblical story of Joshua. By leaning on God's promise to be with us wherever we go, we can choose courage over fear and fulfill our divine callings. Courage isn't just a solo act, though; it's about living boldly for God in every part of our lives. We'll discuss the vital role of seeking and speaking His truth with unwavering bravery. Let's embrace the courage God offers and step boldly into the lives He has called us to lead._________“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9 NIVSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! Where in your life do you face a challenge or have an obstacle? Without a doubt, every one of us has moments and seasons of discomfort, distress and even danger. How do we respond? What character trait defines us? Let's consider what God said to Joshua in this Scripture and “Seek Him” about what He's saying about courage to us!WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture?  Instead of being fearful or discouraged, God wanted Joshua to live with strength and courage no matter where he went. ~ What makes you afraid or discouraged today? According to Matthew 28:20, is God's promise to Joshua true for you, too? WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? Courage is the ability to do what God has called you to do no matter what. ~ What is God calling you to do no matter what? How does knowing God is with you help you face the hard parts of this? HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? Psalm 31:24 encourages us, “Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord” (CSB). We will find our greatest courage, not in the depths of ourselves, but in the Lord. As we look to Him, our reserves of strength and courage are filled by Him. That's when we're able to live out all that He's called us to do no matter what. ~ How have you been trying to fill your courage tank? How does God want you to fill it? Where is He leading you that will require all the courage you can get from Him?SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! Before God spoke Joshua 1:9 directly to Joshua, Moses had already challenged Joshua with this in Deuteronomy 31:6, saying “to him in the sight of all Israel, ‘Be strong and courageous…'” Joshua became a strong and courageous leader. Thing is, what we speak into the lives of those God has entrusted to us may be the very foundation that prepares them to hear what God is calling them to. How are you speaking strength and courage into the life of someone God has entrusted to you?______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. A simple daily carpool can turn into a profound spiritual journey when it's used for devotion driven discipleship. Join me (Tosha Williams) as I revisit the origins of my own family's carpool Scripture memorization tradition. This transformed our daily commute into a time of connection and spiritual growth, and it also became the foundation upon which I started the Family Disciple Me ministry. About ten years later, as my youngest daughter is a senior in high school, we are revisiting this tradition one more school year, starting with the character trait of being TEACHABLE. Listen in on this podcast, then join us in the tradition by using the following conversation guide with someone God has entrusted to you!*************************************************CHARACTER CONVERSATIONS:  Teachable“My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2 for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.” Proverbs 3:1-2 ESVSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! A teachable spirit benefits us, not only in our childhood or teenage years, but our whole lives long. As we spend time with the Lord and “Seek Him” through this Scripture, let's lask Him these questions and listen to what He wants to speak to us about the character trait of being teachable. WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture?  ~ What teaching and commandments are being referred to in this Scripture? Who is the “son” in this verse, and can you apply this to your life if you're not a son? What are some ways that you can keep from forgetting what you've learned? WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter? ~ What kind of life do you want to live? Do you want to experience the bare minimum of life, or would you like more goodness added to your life? Do you have peace in your life; why or why not?HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? ~ In what ways are you a teachable person? Are there any areas of your life where God is challenging you to be more teachable? How are you learning to “do good” right now?SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! As we seek to have teachable spirits at every stage of our lives, we model to others what it looks like to be teachable. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Discipleship about being teachable means keeping God's commands in our own hearts and then impressing them on the next generation. Listen in as we uncover the value of UA programs, how employers leaders can connect with universities and the key takeaways for fostering successful partnerships in the ever-evolving tech landscape. All right, So let's start with the very basics.   [00:00:46.430] - Mustansir Saifuddin When we talk about University Alliance, what is the real value of the UA program in building a talent pipeline overall from an IT industry perspective?   [00:01:00.900] - Meagan Knoll Well, let me get started with telling you some of the unique opportunities that the University Alliances offers, and I think that will really segue into some of the value that comes from it. So the University Alliances has a lot of different initiatives behind the scenes. They offer training and workshops to faculty so that we're always on the cusp of new technology and emerging technology. They allow us to have hands-on access to SAP systems so that our students can explore and learn really the basics and the extended knowledge of being within the SAP system. They offer a lot of curriculum resources. How can we impart this knowledge onto the students in a very hands-on way? And a curriculum that is pretty standardized across the University alliances, so we can pool our talents to troubleshoot and provide these really in-depth curriculum opportunities. Then one of the best, I think, when it comes to connecting SAP employees or SAP users, is it helps faculty and students collaborate with those experts. For new emerging technologies or maybe a specific line of business, they really help make that connection so that we're talking to the right people and having the students learn the right content.   [00:02:29.740] - Meagan Knoll Then they offer certifications and badges, which is really great for the students to not only leave with a degree from a university, but with a SAP certification There's many different ones that can be taken, but a value at the student level is that that certification has tangible learning objectives that they can take from their degree at the university and then apply them to those certificates and badges.   [00:03:07.990] - Mustansir Saifuddin That sounds incredibly awesome. I hear a few things when you talk about this at length. One is that not only the students are getting benefit, but even the teaching staff has got that breadth of knowledge by going through this program.   [00:03:28.760] - Mustansir Saifuddin Tom, from where you said, what do you see the value?   [00:03:32.500] - Mustansir Saifuddin What is that comes to you when you talk about UA program?   [00:03:36.870] - Tom McGinnis It's the continuation of exactly that. With the students and the faculty getting together, it provides a great deal of value for the employer that's going to be hiring those students. You have students who are arriving on site on day one that have a process understanding. They understand, if you will, the of SAP. They know what master data is. They know what the org structure of the organization could be. They understand the transactions. That fundamental knowledge of all those pieces really adds a great deal of value. Usually In the UA, a majority of the schools are worried about the make-buy-sell process. The value is not that the new hire has the company's specific business processes in mind, but But they know how to translate what they got out of the UA program into the organization and translate that into reporting, data sourcing, data-driven decisions. It really lets them hit the ground running, and the businesses can get a great deal out of that. At the same time, the students get a great deal out of that as well because they understand the value of what this means to business. Normally, speak to students about what's important, and they accept that.   [00:05:04.310] - Tom McGinnis When they see the University Alliance and how it partners with business, they now get a real value for that, and they're no longer passive in their education. We see students really jumping on board and augmenting skills more and more. So it improves both the business side as well as the student side. It's really fun to watch.   [00:05:25.790] - Mustansir Saifuddin For sure. I think I can totally relate to it. I mean, you would Your choice of words, especially when you talk about translating, translation, it is so much important. When you talk about a business, there are certain parameters they run and they use certain terminologies, technologies, and then everything is coming together to make up a business environment. And a student who is exposed to it very early on, they now are able to simulate in the new system because it's just natural to them now. That takes me to my next question, which is, look from an employer's perspective. Where can employers find a university they can connect with who has got the UA program?   [00:06:15.890] - Meagan Knoll The University Alliances, of the schools that participate in the program who offer some SAP courses, they always have one point person that's called the Faculty Coordinator. This point person is a great go-to as a person to learn about what offerings they have, if they have any student groups, if they have any needs or things that they want to connect over. There's also some great advisory board opportunities. A lot of local universities who offer the SAP program have advisory boards where different companies can sit on those advisory boards and help direct the curriculum choices. There's a really good touch point, which is Career Services. Contacting a local university's Career Services to see if they have an SAP program, if they have a University Alliances program, and getting your foot in the door with Career Services can then open not only the doors to the courses that were offered and the student body that makes up those courses, but also ways to really get engaged when it comes to maybe taking the students on for internships or taking the students on for an entry-level career.   [00:07:42.330] - Mustansir Saifuddin Wow. There are so many different aspects and avenues for employers to interact with a university that has got the program going, right? Now, looking from a different angle, what do you expect from prospective employers? What is that you guys want or the students are looking for?   [00:08:05.550] - Tom McGinnis There's a couple of things. Part of it is being active or participating with the faculty and the students. It also brings together the folks to talk about what the requirements are and expectations. I know Megan and I have worked with a lot of students in bringing companies into the student group to just talk hiring practices, talk about what's the average day in the office. That opens up their eyes. It also gets the employers in to help assess the program, if you will, because Not all programs are made equal. Some schools will have larger programs than others. Sometimes a school will have dedicated SAP coursework, meaning a full 15-week course dealing with business processes. Activities, dealing with configuration, dealing with warehouse management or building a data warehouse. And along with that, there might be snippets in other courses. So the accounting course may have a two-week discussion around SAP and what accounting looks like. A supply chain course might touch upon procurement just for a few weeks in the semester. There are different ways of teaching the classes, and employers can come in and take a look at that and see what they're looking for. Students see the employers coming in and get an understanding of what the employers are looking for, and everyone starts to dial in on what they like.   [00:09:43.650] - Tom McGinnis In some of the programs I've taught in, a majority of the students taking the courses, SAP courses, are not MIS students. They're not technology people. They're business process people because they see that the employers value that business process understanding. It's really fun to watch that eke out. Then faculty, of course, get involved because they want their courses to be relevant to employers. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy where everyone's feeding off each other's energy to ramp up the programs. It's really exciting to see that happen.   [00:10:23.260] - Mustansir Saifuddin Now, that's interesting. I think one point that I really got out of this is as an employer ourselves, at Innovative Solution Partners, basically what I'm hearing is you want us to be there, interact with the program and students, and get to know what is being taught. And this is one way of Getting the value out of the program because each program has got its own merit in terms of what has been taught in the program. And each school has a different curriculum. So this way an employer has an opportunity to get to know what they will be dealing with or what they will be getting in terms of the talent that they're looking for.   [00:11:09.540] - Meagan Knoll To speak to that point, let me give you some examples of some opportunities that have taken place at a lot of University Alliances schools. There's something called the NextGen Labs. Nextgen Labs are a space within the university where they can do hands-on projects for or a community partner. If your business has a small project that maybe you don't have the bandwidth to take on and it involves SAP in some way, you could turn it over to a course at a university, and the students could work on solving that problem for you or making that report that you need. That's one great way to preview the talent because those students that are on that next-gen project who are going to be meeting with you and talking about it and presenting it gives you a great insight into what type of employee those students might become. Another one that is pretty popular is code jams. A great way to connect with the students and see the students in action would be to participate in a code jam. A lot of SAP organizations or user groups groups, they have code jams put on by SAP. Students can attend those as much as the employees at the different businesses can attend.   [00:12:39.710] - Meagan Knoll And having that mix between students and professionals is a great way to see that blossoming talent and really connect with them before you hire them on.   [00:12:53.380] - Mustansir Saifuddin That's very interesting. So I know I'm familiar with code jam for sure. This next Gen program that you mentioned, it seems very interesting also. It seems like there are multiple ways a prospective employer can connect and interact and get a first-hand look at the talent that they're dealing with or they will we're going to be approaching in the future. So this is really good news.   [00:13:18.880] - Mustansir Saifuddin Now, let's take a different approach.   [00:13:24.130] - Mustansir Saifuddin I know you are being an educator, you're dealing with students day in, day out. How How are you preparing these young people to be productive from the get-go?   [00:13:35.620] - Meagan Knoll I think it takes more than just an individual faculty member. It's really, most of these SAP University Alliances programs are housed in a larger college, like the College of Business. It takes that whole roundabout knowledge of the tactical things, the systems thinking, the hands-on, education, all the different insights that come from career services and come from extracurriculars, even leadership type roles that students might have on campus. It really takes a large ecosphere at the university level to really prepare the students to go forth. And the UA gives a really great mix that universities can already add on to their great programs, but it just gives that little bit of extra edge.   [00:14:29.920] - Mustansir Saifuddin Yeah, that makes sense, because especially when you think about these programs, I know it feels like sometimes when you think about these programs, you are looking at one part of it, but it's an overall scheme of things It makes sense to have it as the way it's set up, like you mentioned.   [00:14:49.740] - Mustansir Saifuddin Tom, you have any other points that you want to share about this, especially when you're preparing young folks?   [00:14:57.940] - Tom McGinnis Part of it is there's There's a couple of aspects to it. It's more from the employer side of things is when you're looking at programs, as I said before, they're not all the same. Oftentimes, I see companies struggle with how to participate, how to put their foot in in those cases. Megan has mentioned career services and all those opportunities, but part of it is assessing the schools that you partner with. Most organizations already have a set list of schools that they recruit from. It could be just as simple as going out and looking to see if one of their current schools is on that list. Sap, www. Sap. Com, they have a list of UA schools. If you have a list of 10, 15 local schools that you recruit from, it's worth checking to see whether those schools are there on that list. Then you just take a look at their program. How many students do they have? What's the mix of majors? How involved are the faculty? What courses are involved in that? Lastly, as Megan said, the certifications. You're looking at that holistically and bringing that all together, and that's where you get some of those unique views.   [00:16:19.160] - Tom McGinnis The faculty oftentimes go along for the ride because they see the interest in those programs. It's a great way of getting that synergy involved. I think that's the thing I want to stress. It's the combination of faculty organizations and the students. That's what really brings this home as a value prop for everyone involved.   [00:16:44.870] - Mustansir Saifuddin For sure. I think this subject is such a vast subject, and we can keep on going, but we do have a time limitation. I'll try to wrap this up. Just looking at all the discussions we had so far and what we covered, what is the one key takeaway that you want our listeners to go with?   [00:17:10.720] - Meagan Knoll In preparing and talking and getting this topic on the top of our minds, the one takeaway that really stood out to us is that old adage of, You reap what you sow. So the more involved that you are in that synergy of students and faculty and organizations the more that your connection and your internship possibilities, your young career possibilities will flourish.   [00:17:39.870] - Tom McGinnis There's opportunities out there for companies to harvest these diamonds in the rough, we call it. Fantastic performers that are sitting there in school not quite knowing what they want to do yet, who are going to really flourish in the right environment. It's just getting those folks together and seeing the value on on all their sides. And oftentimes, I see organizations not taking advantage of this because they have some self-imposed barrier to entry in this recruiting scheme. And there's nothing there. It's a simple call to Career Services to find out who on campus could I talk to and going from there. Or it's leveraging your current grads and whatever alumni associations you have in your company, using them to go out and recruit on campus. So there's a lot of low-hanging fruit that's there for people to take advantage of. Yeah, and I think I would like to sum it up with this is almost like a matchmaking   [00:18:45.870] - Mustansir Saifuddin You have the right set of talent on both sides, right?   [00:18:51.530] - Mustansir Saifuddin In our business, looking for individuals or teams that they want to bring into their fold. And the university is looking at placing these young individuals into a system where they can flourish and they can get a sense of what they are getting into. And it seems like the UA program allows them to do both of it in a way that interaction starts so much earlier than any other program where you are doing the book study versus not having that real-life exposure. I really appreciate you guys coming together and sharing your thoughts on this.   [00:19:38.430] - Mustansir Saifuddin Thanks for listening to Tech Driven Business brought to you by Innovative Solution Partners. Meagan and Tom shared valuable insights on how IT firms can leverage the University Alliance program. Their main takeaway, the more involved that you are in that synergy of students, faculty, and organizations, the more impact the program will have. There is a lot of low hanging fruit that's there for people to take advantage of. We would love to hear from you. Continue the conversation by connecting with me on LinkedIn or Twitter. In this episode we eat on a study that can be found here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9377507/ This study gets its name from THE Solomon we can read about in scripture and explores the glaring hole between man's ability to advise or give wisdom to others vs. applying the very same advice or wisdom they give to their own life. We will look into the WHY - Why is it that we can think more clearly and have more discernment and wisdom when it comes to other peoples problems and yet not my own?HOW - How do we fix this in our lives and spare some wisdom for ourselves to navigate our own life and advise our own lives knowing I'm capable of doing it for others? Proverbs 13:10Proverbs 29:11Proverbs 19:8Listen and subscribe here to the 44 Podcast.Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-44/id1633292693Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3xwa7L1pmRvTBf7wZXEIQt?si=G8sFiZccTm65XZpPZQs8OgYouTube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfK0lM5wMGi_kHCHXahDjWSj__SwycMZ5&si=DSI1OT29nZVD3N8Q

But then now I guess I can afford the cost of having to be on your show as well.   Michael Hingson ** 02:16 You'll suffer through it. Right. Exactly. Yeah. Well, we're we're really glad that you're here. And it's always fun. And I understand that where you are down in Florida. You're having typical summer Florida sunshine. Yeah, yeah. California sunshine, right.   Kevin Lowe ** 02:33 Yeah, sunshine with a mix of thunderstorms. So yes, it never   Michael Hingson ** 02:38 rains in Southern California. But here we are. Well, let's start with the way I love to start. Tell us a little bit about you growing up what life was like and just all about Kevin, and we'll go from there.   Kevin Lowe ** 02:54 Yeah. So you know, I really have a really blessed childhood. Honestly. You know, I grew up I was born and raised here in Ormond Beach, Florida. Which for those who are a little bit more familiar with Daytona Beach, Florida, which is about an hour east of Orlando grew up right here in this little beachside town and had a great childhood grew up riding dirt bikes, and four wheelers hunting and fishing and, and all the things you know, my biggest loves was was riding dirt bikes. And literally on my fourth birthday, I got my first dirt bike and it was so little that it even have training wheels on it. And my my my parents and stuff, they would get a kick out of it, because I'd be riding around the yard and the training wheel would hit a pile and I topple over.   Michael Hingson ** 03:50 And button to the ends. Of course, yeah.   Kevin Lowe ** 03:54 Well, what Well, of course, you know, but, you know, it was it was really good. And that really, you know, the dirt bike, I don't think they had any clue what that birthday present would do. But really that would become my life for my childhood was was riding dirt bikes. It was something I did with my dad. And so we would go camping in the woods for a week at a time doing nothing but writing every single day. And and coming up in my teenage years when I turned 16 Of course the the love for dirt bikes turned to the love of the idea of getting a track you know, when I turned 16 And and I had that I did indeed I got a it was a Ford. What was it was a 96 Ford F 154 by four so was was lifted with big mud tires. And it was it was literally a 16 year old boy's dream truck and you know fuel economy out the window You know, practicality, not a bit of it. It was just big, loud and could go in the mud and, you know, have some fun.   Michael Hingson ** 05:10 And the other side of that, of course, is though, with a truck like that, and being in high school didn't impress the girls.   Kevin Lowe ** 05:17 Well, well, of course it impresses. Yeah. Why, of course it especially when, when you'd give anybody a ride in the tract, of course, they would get scared to death. Because when you chuck that high, as you're making turns, they think you're gonna topple over. And you know, and so, it gives that gives everybody a whole lot of fun, you know, but, so that was life, you know, was was great. Now, I did have, you know, some different issues, I would, I started to call them health issues, but we didn't even really know that they were, quote, unquote, health issues. It was just problems I had had like headaches, I always had headaches, literally, from the time I was a toddler, and they were horrible migraine headaches. around kindergarten, I think it was I failed the eye test at school. And so I had to get glasses. And so I started wearing glasses and had the headaches and, and going up through those like middle school years and stuff, my mom would always tell my pediatrician, you know, you don't understand he drinks more than any human you'll ever see. You know, I mean, I can remember my grandmother, my Nana, she'd picked me up from school, I'd come home, and I would down an entire picture of tea, you know, and then go on to you know, glasses of water could never drink enough. And all of these were signs of something that we had no idea about. And coming up in my junior year of high school. So So now I've been driving for a year I work at Publix as a bag, boy, you know, things are going good. But here I am 17 years old, turned 17, about two months after the start of school. And yeah, I'm still this little kid, I hadn't started growing. I'm only five foot three, still having these headaches. And finally my mom and my grandmother had enough and they're like, listen, something has to be done. And so they got me switched to a new doctor. And that new doctor, he was just another family doctor, but he took one look at me will look at my chart and was like there's something not right. And so that would kind of put forth this kind of just whirlwind of an adventure we would embark on. And that was discovering that I had a brain tumor. And my mom got the call from from the endocrinologist on a Friday evening to tell her that the results of the MRI came in, and that it was worse than he ever expected that it was indeed a brain tumor. It was a cranial Ferengi Oma. So thankfully, it was non cancerous. But literally, they said that I had six months to live if this tumor was not removed. And so it had completely encased my pituitary gland, which your pituitary controls all of your body's hormones. That's why it wasn't growing. You know, that's why I wasn't going through puberty, all of those things. It was also in the crosshairs of my optic nerve, and had begun pressing against my carotid artery. And so it was horrible news, it was devastating. But we were assured by the leading pediatric neurosurgeon in the country, we were assured by him that it's no problem. He's like, we're gonna go in, we're going to remove the tumor, you'll be back to school in about three to four weeks, and you'll continue on with life. And, you know, I often joke and say that at that time, the most upsetting part of it was that he told me I would not be able to ride my four wheeler for six months. And so, you know, but life continued, you know, life was going to continue and I had fun with it. I named my tumor Bob Bob the tumor. And so we had a going away Bob party with me and my whole family.   Michael Hingson ** 09:35 And did you have siblings?   Kevin Lowe ** 09:38 I did a sister. Okay. Yeah, I have a sister My sister is five years older than me. And so yeah, so I mean it was was really set up to be okay and then you know, I'm, I'm back in high school telling all my buddies you know, haha, see you later suckers. Enjoy trigonometry. I'm out of here, you know, and we go in The surgery was October 28 2003 was surgery day. And I tell people that on that day my, my life stopped. And a new life began. Um, nothing went right from that point forward. I had the surgery, they, the doctor came out, told my family that everything, you know, went great that the surgery was a success. And that it was I mean, the tumor was removed, it saved my life. But I believe it was maybe the second day or third day after surgery. I'm still in intensive care unit. You know, I have no memory of any time after being wheeled into the operating room. My memory doesn't pick up until months later. So all I know about this time is the stories that have been told by my family and, and my mom is the one who always tells the story that she was in the room at this particular moment. And the doctor, the neurosurgeon had made his rounds. And he's in the room with my mom. And he was was talking to me, and apparently I was very combative. And apparently I had one of those pulse ox machines on my toe. Well, apparently I kept ripping the thing off. So the doctor, he was pointing to the pulse ox machine, and apparently it had a baby a little blinking red light on it. And he said to me, he's like, Kevin, do you see this light? You don't touch this? Do you see the light? Well, my mom said that I said, No, I don't see anything. At that moment, he looked at my mom, my mom was at him. And he walked over and he flipped on the light switch. And he started flipping it on and off on orphans like Kevin, do you see the light? And I said, No, no, it's just black. It's just black. And it was at that moment that they found out that I couldn't see. So I came out of that surgery to be left completely blind. So I have no light perception, no shapes or shadows, nothing of the sort. I also lost my ability to smell had short term memory loss for oh gosh, at least a good like six months after surgery. And literally just began this this whole new life. And, you know, for a long, long time, you know, I thought it was really the blindness that was my greatest disability. Well, I came to realize over the years that it's really more than the blindness, it's the effects that the tumor had on my my endocrine system or with my pituitary gland. Being now paying hypo pit where I have to take all these medications to try to replace and do what the body's supposed to do naturally, which is always a very poor alternative. And, you know, it leaves me kind of struggling a lot of times, but I learned to to continue, you learn to adapt, you keep moving forward. And even though things were hard, I kept pushing forward. And I never went back to school, the rest of that junior year. Instead, I would have my mom would drop me off at my, my Nana's house in the morning, she would go on to work. And I had a group of teachers who would come it was part of a program called hospital homebound. And I had Mrs. Scott who taught me my school subjects. I had Mrs. David who taught me how to read Braille and how to use a talking computer. And then I had Mrs. Toth who taught me how to start getting around with a cane. And those three women were literally like three angels who entered our lives. And they were amazing. And they were so good with me now. Luckily, I was really good in school, I was already pretty much set up to graduate. So that was made life easier. Especially because, you know, like I said I had short term memory loss. So, you know, here I would be learning about school subjects. They would leave and I'd say to my Nana, when is Muscat coming? Every round and I was like, wow, I can tell that that just really sank in real well what we just learned. But ultimately what happened is is through it all. I was able to make it back to school for the start of my senior year. And I just Just went back for one class a day, we had a block scheduling. So it was four classes a day instead of the normal six or seven. And so I went back for just one class a day. And the rest I did back at home with the same same teachers. Ultimately, I did what I had a goal to do. Now, I hated school, never liked it would rather be sick with the with the flu and get to stay home, they go to school, yet, for some reason, from the time I became blind, I kept telling everybody that I just want to be able to graduate with my class, I just want to be able to graduate with with my class. And I did it. I literally walked across the stage of my high school graduation. And I think that was a pivotal moment for me. I don't think that I, I know I didn't realize that at the time. And matter of fact, I didn't realize it till years and years later. I think how impactful that moment was, but for myself, my faith is a big part of my my story. And, and I believe in all of my heart that God was the one who put that desire to graduate on my heart. And that God wanted to show me that even in this new life, even though things are different, even though things may be difficult, you can still do great things.   Michael Hingson ** 16:31 I'll bet you got lots of cheers when you walked across that stage.   Kevin Lowe ** 16:35 I did. I did. It was pretty darn awesome.   Michael Hingson ** 16:39 Yeah, because you obviously went through a lot and people were aware of it and sensitive enough to it that when you walked across that stage, it must have been a wonderful thing.   Kevin Lowe ** 16:49 Yeah, yeah, it was it was. It was pretty cool. It was it was pretty cool. I must admit,   Michael Hingson ** 16:55 yeah. What kind of a grade point average did you have? Um, I   Kevin Lowe ** 16:59 can't remember what I graduated with. But I was always on a roll. I mean, I was always right up there. And like the, you know, 3.8 You know, your GPA. So? Yeah, well,   Michael Hingson ** 17:11 so you graduated. So? That must have been? What in like, 88   Kevin Lowe ** 17:18 Oh, goodness, no, that was not 85 2005   Michael Hingson ** 17:20 I miscalculated. Sorry about that. How old are you? That's right. You had a tumor surgery in 2000. Late 2003. So yeah, okay. Yeah. I was just listening to the story. All right. So you're an old fellow. So when 85 You graduated? And, obviously, well, what happened to the truck?   Kevin Lowe ** 17:48 So so my dad, my dad kept my truck for, for a while, I can't remember how long he kept it. And he, you know, it was so unexpected. No one ever expected this to happen. I mean, it wasn't even in the cards. And so, I mean, it took it took a toll on on not just me, but my whole family. And for a long time. I wasn't the only one who kept thinking that this was temporary, that there's going to be a doctor, there's going to be a surgery or procedure, a medicine, something somewhere in the world that's going to fix me that I'm gonna get my sight back. And my dad, he, he kept my truck for a while and, and he would drive it and pick me up in it. And he always told me that he was keeping it for me. And finally, the one day I, I told him, I said, Dad, I said, Listen, I said, if the day comes that I can see again, I want a brand new truck. I said, get rid of this thing, sell it, let somebody else get to enjoy it. And then, you know, I told him, I said, You don't gotta keep it from me. Because I told him I said, trust me, five, get the marillac miraculous recovery that I'm looking for. I'm going down to Ford and getting a brand new one. So there you go.   Michael Hingson ** 19:20 What did they decide actually happened that caused your blindness? So you had the surgery and they felt it was successful? I would think that they were a little bit surprised that you suddenly couldn't see or were they?   Kevin Lowe ** 19:35 So yes, um, so apparently, I guess my optic nerve had already begun to atrophy. And there's a consensus that what happened is when the tumor was removed, that it caused a trauma shock to the optic nerve. Another thing that is And I've been told about was that they feel as though the optic nerve had been tunneling blood through the tumor, it had basically become, you know, part of it. And so again, when that tumor was removed, it kind of cut off that blood supply, it caused trauma to the nerve, causing it, causing it to atrophy, causing it to die. As I said, my Oh, go ahead, go ahead. Um, you know, the biggest thing has always just been is I remember in all the, the after MRIs that I kept having, because when they took the tumor out, there had to be this one little piece left. And so I kept having MRIs afterwards to be sure that that wasn't growing back. And it didn't, it continued to die off. And, and I can remember in every office visit, I go into the, the pediatric endocrinology or the pediatric neurosurgeons office, and if I can remember that man, he always just said he, he would sit there, and he would literally cry with being my mom, this man who's just at the top of the top in terms of the medical system, this leading, leading pediatric neurosurgeon to the country. And yet he would sit there and cry, and he would say, everything is there, everything is intact. I see from the results, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to see. And I always told him, it was a God's plan. I don't know why either. But I came to realize that, for whatever reason, it was a God's plan. And that's, that's what I truly believe.   Michael Hingson ** 21:52 So you graduated high school, which clearly was also part of God's plan. And then what did you do?   Kevin Lowe ** 22:01 So the years after graduating, where a lot of just honestly learning to kind of live again, you know, I tell people that, you know, I was, in an essence, almost, I felt like I was brought back down to a child, you know, here I was, you know, a quote unquote, child when it happened, but I had independence, you know, I had my own car could come and go as I wanted to do what I wanted, I was independent. And, you know, I lost that. And, again, just the health issues that I was dealing with, with, with the surgery and everything, it was a lot. And so a lot of those years after were spent at my Nana's house, like I said, my mom, you know, my dad, they'd be working and, and I would stay at Nana's. And while they are, though, I did some classes, thank goodness, where I live, right near Daytona Beach, is we have a huge blind center there, have a division of Blind Services Center for the visually impaired, have, I believe the world's largest braille book library, all these resources that before this happened, never even knew existed. And so I was so fortunate that I mean, it was so easy for me to go in and take classes and get help. And so, so I started doing some different classes, learning more about technology, doing stuff, I would end up going to our local community college. And that, that was short lived. As I said, I wasn't a fan of school to begin with now make it a little bit more difficult. And have me trying to line up aims to be in class with me, as notetakers was a total just train wreck. The aides wouldn't show up, or if they didn't show up. They were talking in class and doing everything other than than actually helping me. And so, you know, I would end up having to literally do classes with, with my family members. I mean, thank goodness, I had a cousin my same age who was in college, so I made sure to sign up for some of the same classes she was in, so that she could be my aide. And it was just, it was crazy. And finally, I just I'd had enough and so I'm like, Okay, I don't leave this is the route for me. And, and, and so I can't remember what really much happened like after that, but I just kept trying to live and not really sure what I was going to do. Like I said, I mean, it was such a blow because everything that I had ever thought that I might have wanted to do as a career with my life was was now out no more. Every, every just bit of me was just torn down. As I tell people that the only two things that I had, were were my faith and my family. And literally everything else I felt like was taken from me for a long time. And then finally, one day, I got asked to take part in a job readiness program that was offered through the local center for the visually impaired. And it was said that at the end of this job readiness program, they would set you up with an internship at you know, whatever business that you know, maybe interested you. So I'm like, Okay, I was a little apprehensive, but what I had signed up to do it, what the heck, yeah, exactly what the heck, let's give it a shot. So I was in there. To be quite honest, the job readiness program was a little silly. I felt like some of the stuff was a little Elementary. But I had a good time, because I made friend with two old guy who were in there. One of them, which was a guy from Puerto Rico, I think is where he originally was from, was living here in Florida as a plumber. So we talked all about, you know, handyman stuff. And another guy was in there was like a former gangster out of New York. And he was a total character. And so the three of us would just kind of sit in the classroom and have a good time together. And at the end of it, though, and this job readiness program, I had the opportunity to get an internship at a job. And so sitting down with them, you know, trying to figure out what my interests were, I had an interest in travel, and radio. And so traveling was something that I did all growing up into love to travel. And I realized that even after becoming blind, that I still love to travel, maybe even more so because, you know, no longer can I just watch the TV and see the sights. Now I actually have to go places and experience though. And so, lo and behold, they set me up with an internship at a local travel agency, and an internship at a local am a radio station. And in so I began those internships and oh, my gosh, I love them both. Both at the travel agency, I got to literally gotten to start working, helping the owners of this company, you know, we were booking cruises and working with, with, you know, all their clients, which they specialized in seniors, they had their, what was it called sensational senior socials. So, so it's all these old people coming in, and they were so sweet. And, and so I was doing that. But at the same time, I'm working at the am radio station. So I would have to be there from 6am to 9am. I worked on the morning drive, and they didn't really, they didn't really know what to do with me. Because at first they put me in a little side booth and, and I'm on my computer, and I'm supposed to find like local news stories for us to talk about, well, soon enough, they realized, let's just bring Kevin in the studio. So I literally sat in the studio on the morning drive with the host of the show, the guy Dave who worked the controls, and then a co host. And literally, I got to be part of the show. And so, you know, they'd be talking about mostly political issues and stuff and and I always had an opinion on something and and I can remember the the host he would he'd see me over the corner kind of chuckle and laugh at and you Kevin you got some input on this and you know, I'm so I pipe in and be on the radio show. And I loved it. Absolutely loved it. And so though react Yeah, it was great. It was great. But into the internship are both places. They went nowhere.   Michael Hingson ** 29:11 They went nowhere. Nowhere before we go on how was your your Braille so you did learn braille and so on. How How did you end do you do it Braille because you know, you didn't learn it as a very young child.   Kevin Lowe ** 29:24 So I learned braille really quick, really fast. My my teacher even told me that I learned braille faster than anyone she had ever had. And so I did really good with Braille. But then, of course, if you don't use it, you lose it. And so welcome technology, good or bad. I stopped using braille. And I mean, today I know my grade one Braille but the contracted form, you know, headache, so   Michael Hingson ** 29:56 yes,   Kevin Lowe ** 29:57 yeah, of course.   Michael Hingson ** 29:59 But you did travel? Um, well, you you were able to get around and and how did you get like to the travel agency into the radio station every day?   Kevin Lowe ** 30:07 Yeah, those were primarily I did primarily, you know, a family member. Generally, it was one of my grandparents, either my grandfather, the radio station was right near his work. So he would drop me off in the morning. And then my grandma would pick me up, or I would also use transport, like service like, I don't know, we didn't even have like, Uber and stuff back then. But we had some different transport. Yeah, yeah. But so those internships ended in. I'm back at square one. I'm like, What the heck do I do. And so I come to find out about this idea of starting a home based travel agency. And so that's what I did. So January of 2013, I opened my own home based business, it was called better days travel. And I grew and operated my own home based travel agency. And I did that up until 2020. And I loved it. Now, I won't say that I felt like it was probably what I was, you know, maybe say, quote unquote, meant to do. But I didn't know what else I was supposed to do. And I knew that I enjoyed it. And I enjoyed getting to, for one thing, get to grow a business. You know, I grew up with, with my parents, both being entrepreneurs owning their own businesses. And so to have this opportunity to get to be an owner of my own business as well, operating right out of my home was amazing for me, what kind of businesses did they have. So my, my dad, he had when I was was really young, he had a big massive construction company with all kinds of employees and stuff, he then downsized had a bearing shops, and so the ball bearings, bolt saw that the hoses and, and you know, all kinds of different stuff like that. And then he ended up switching over to just operating himself with a bulldozer, so he's a heavy equipment operator. Then my mom, my mom is had had the whole time as a, as I was a teenager, she had her own property management company. And so, so I grew up with him, you know, he said with having their own businesses, and so getting to start my own business was was really something that was amazing for me, and I got to build this brand, build this company. And like I said, I saw I really did really well with that rockin and rollin up until 2020. And, you know, of course, you know, the story hasn't 2020 was going to be my best year on record. And then, of course, March of 2020 came, and everything fell apart.   Michael Hingson ** 33:06 So I'm curious as a travel agent, not so my wife was a travel agent for a number of years. She was a travel agent when we got married. So while you are a travel agent, and I don't know whether it happened as an intern, but certainly once you built your own home business, were you ever able to go on any fam trips and go to look at places?   Kevin Lowe ** 33:26 Yes, yes, I did. I did. Yes. Probably one of the most impactful trips that I've ever been on was was one of these trips that you're talking about, that was with another guy who I had been working with in the in the travel industry, and he invited me to go with him on a fam trip to Jamaica. And so it was my first time traveling out of the country. I had been on cruises before, but this was my first time like actually flying somewhere out of the country. And it was my first time traveling without a family member with me. And so, you know, but I I you know, had a really great relationship with this with this guy. And so I jumped on the opportunity. And so we went to Jamaica, and oh my gosh, we got to tour the whole island. We went to all the different resorts. The resort we stayed It was absolutely incredible. Which one Had we stayed at? We were at. Oh, my goodness. What is the name of Moon Moon Palace? Yeah, yeah, it was a Yeah, what is it? Yeah, Moon Moon Grand Palace, something like that. So I know that they have a they have a same kind of property over in Mexico. And I think that's called like moon and I think the one in Jamaica has maybe called a moon grant or something.   Michael Hingson ** 34:51 My my wife took a fam trip to hedonism, which is I think, in Jamaica was yeah, some sandals invited me along. But we did go on some some fam trips together she let me come on. Yeah, a few of them, which was really great. And then we we did do cruising. Yeah had some opera she actually went to cruise because she had booked a number of cruises on what was at that time sit Mar, which became part of princess but she had some limited options because being in a wheelchair the early days of well, and I wouldn't say early days of cruising, but back in the 80s, and so on. There weren't a lot of accessibility options on ships. And that did change over time. But you know, we did go even on a ship that was inaccessible, the fare sky was a Sigmar ship. And there were like six inch sills, you had to go over to get into the cabins and so on. But again, since I was with her, then I could wheel her over those. And then the next ship we we were on was, I think called the Fair sea. And that one actually had an accessible room. And so that was one of the reasons we got to be on that ship. And to do the fam trip on that, because it was totally accessible. It was great. Yeah,   Kevin Lowe ** 36:12 yeah, absolutely. And I tell you, I mean, cruising, I fell in love with cruising, you know, with my family, and then, but it's just traveling in general. Experiencing just the world, the people, that's what made me fall in love with Jamaica, was the people. And I'm the person who, who I remember the day on that trip to Jamaica, where we were touring, all these different resorts we are out, like, all day long, well, well, there was a couple of them that I really didn't have any interest in, you know, for one reason or another. And so, I had made friends with our driver that day. And so I, you know, told a couple of times, I'm like, Hey, I'm just gonna sit in here, you know, and me and him, and we would talk and I learned all about, you know, their culture and how they pressure cook, go, and, you know, all this stuff. And, and, you know, that's what did when, when I would book travel is that is I tried to get through to my clients was booking travel to experience a destination and not just going to see it. You know, and so yeah, that was   Michael Hingson ** 37:22 why I asked the question about taking a fam trip, because yes, that way, you really had the experience.   Kevin Lowe ** 37:28 Exactly, absolutely.   Michael Hingson ** 37:31 So 2020 came, March of 2020 came, and those little things from wherever they came from, came along and invaded all of our world. Yes, so what? So what happened to you, then what, what did you do? Because that clearly had an impact on you? And what you were doing?   Kevin Lowe ** 37:55 Yes, yes,   Michael Hingson ** 37:56 unless you can sell a lot of virtual travel. But   Kevin Lowe ** 38:00 exactly, well, well, it didn't need so. So as I had said, that was gonna be my best year on record. And yet, inside of one week, everything disappeared. All the bookings cancelled. And it was at that point, you know, we're all now in lockdown, were in quarantine. And I didn't know what I was going to do. You know, of course, none of us did. We didn't know how long it was going to last we thought it was temporary. And so you know, luckily, I had built you know, this amazing, you know, community in the travel industry. And, and so we're just all trying to rally each other together. Well, finally, I decided, You know what, it's, you know, what, this is the perfect opportunity for me to finally start that YouTube channel I've been thinking about. And so I get my sister together, and Mike. And so start going on Amazon and start ordering equipment to start, you know, being able to film YouTube videos. Well, finally, the one day it kind of hits me as I'm starting to order stuff, I'm starting to get stuff in the mail. Is it just kind of had that that light bulb moment was, Kevin, if Tiffany is not here to help you. You can't do this on your own. You're not going to be good filming yourself walking around doing whatever. And so I kind of had that moment like, Oh, crap, what am I going to do? And, and my YouTube, you know, stardom, you know, is just dashed. And so I'm telling my sister about it. And she says, you know, why don't you do a podcast and I'm like, What is a podcast? So she tells me and I'm like, Tiffany, that sounds like a really lame alternative to a YouTube channel.   Michael Hingson ** 39:47 You know, little did I   Kevin Lowe ** 39:49 know, I start listening to podcasts. And it didn't take long for me to realize, Kevin, you just found your space the world of Audio, where everybody who listens to podcasts gets to be blind. So now I will see the podcast about how to start a podcast. And so low Behold, May of 2020, I launched a podcast. And I called, it was called the lowdown on life and travel. Because at the time, I still thought that I was going to be a travel agent. And so the podcast was going to talk about me, as a blind travel agent, it also just focusing on travel, keeping the dream alive for people is what my intention was. And so I kept running with that. And I'm starting to release episodes. And you know, I mean, if you go back and you listen to any of your beginning ones, now, you cringe like nobody's business, and you think to yourself, how did I ever think that was any good? Yeah, at the time you thought, Man, this is this is how to really good? Well, I kept getting really good feedback. And as I was going along, I kept getting really great feedback, especially the interviews I was doing. And so 2020 is marching along. And we're coming into, I guess, probably like the fall of 2020. And I'm starting to get people inquiring about travel again. And I didn't know what this podcasting journey was going to do, where it was going to leave. But all I knew was at this moment, I didn't want to book another trip, to then have to cancel it. And so I found myself kind of turning people away. And then I realized, you know what, I have to have to do something different. I don't want to do travel. And so the podcast, I kept having these interviews with people, and I was having these really in depth interviews. And I think by this point, I had rebranded the podcast for the first time. So it went from the lowdown on life and travel to the lowdown with Kevin Allah. And I was focusing on just, you know, inspiring stories and, and, you know, personal growth, development, stuff like that. And so, I'm having these interviews with people. And I keep having people tell me, at the end of our interview, that I asked them questions that no one ever asked them, or that I see part to their story that no one else ever sees before, or all these different little things like that I even had one lady told me, she said, the only person who's ever fit those two pieces together before, you know, was my psychiatrist. And I kept having people talk to me about, you know, you should really think about being your coach. Well, again, kind of like podcasting. I had no idea what coaching even once, and only coaching, I never heard of what's the PE coach. And so I started kind of learning about that. And times marching on, we're now obviously, on moving down the months. And I don't even know what year it was, I guess, now 2021, I started exploring some different options, didn't really know the coaching thing, was doing some different little work with the computer and didn't really sure what was happening. And then then things finally kind of came together. And I finally realized what I loved. And it was being able to work with people talk with people, just like I do on the podcast. But now I actually really get to help them, not just interview them. And so it led to me being a transformation coach, which is what I do today.   Michael Hingson ** 43:59 So tell me a little bit more about what it means to be a transformation coach.   Kevin Lowe ** 44:04 Yeah, so being transformation. Yeah, of course. So the biggest thing would be being a transformation coach is working with people who are kind of at that point in their life when when they want something more, they want to make a change, but they're scared to do it. They're maybe thinking about what lies on the other side of turning that page, starting a new chapter in life, and they're just haven't done it yet. And so I get to work with my clients. They're mostly women, who I work with. And, you know, as I say, I helped them to, to create, to embrace and ultimately step into their next best chapter of life, helping them to transform into this new life that they're wanting this new just stage of life. And that's that's what I do as a coach   Michael Hingson ** 45:02 And so have you have you seen some great successes at having done that love to learn, you know more about it and kind of hear some stories if you can about what, what you've been able to accomplish and so on with it.   Kevin Lowe ** 45:16 Yeah, absolutely. So, so I have had some really great experiences with clients, I developed a coaching program. So I don't just do like, say, one off sessions or whatever, because I did that at first. And then I realized that it really just doesn't serve the client to work with them one time, and then you know, them go on about life. So I do a three month coaching program, with each each client. And yeah, I've had some great success. As I said, most of my clients, if not, I think all of my clients so far have all been women, all women who are kind of later in life who are wanting to maybe explore a career change, that's most of them who they're in this season of life where they've, they've been through some stuff that has kind of opened their eyes, and where they just kind of want more out of life. And so helping them to realize that recognize it, and to see what needs to change in their life, for them to find that fulfillment. And a lot of times that is a career change. Or sometimes it doesn't have to be, it's just adding something to their life, that fulfills them, they have their work that you know, brings in the money and that they enjoy. But now adding on maybe it's a hobby, or maybe it's starting a you know, organization or taking up a craft making a side business. Something though that draws on their own experience. And you know, and that's, that's the biggest thing is helping them to really find fulfillment in this kind of new chapter of life that they're creating.   Michael Hingson ** 47:03 And one of the beauties of doing what you do, I assume is that you can do it virtually they don't need to come to where you are. Exactly, which clearly has to help. So what what kind of, you know, you're a blind guy, which is great. And so I'll ask this sort of principle, but what kind of technology do you use? How is technology helping you to do your job better?   Kevin Lowe ** 47:30 Yeah, so I, I'm a JAWS user. So I have   Michael Hingson ** 47:34 people who don't know, JAWS is what's called a screen reader. It's a piece of software that verbalizes whatever comes across the screen,   Kevin Lowe ** 47:41 exactly. So I rely on Jaws, which is installed on on my just normal Lenovo laptop. And then and then between that, and my iPhone, you know, with VoiceOver, literally, I feel like you can take on the world with with those two, two combined, you know, and so I mean, literally, can run my full business right from between my phone and my computer, the entire podcast that I produce, which, you know, I mean, I have a habit that goes out twice a week, every week, is literally what used to be a walk in closet is now a full blown recording studio. And, and that's the technology I use, you know, it's funny, after I went blind, I remember getting all different kinds of equipment, stuff that we would order or stuff that we would get through, you know, Blind Services, all these different things. Well, now with like the iPhone, oh my gosh, like, I just have a couple of apps on my phone, and it can do all kinds of stuff. And it just It blows my mind. Technology, as it advances is really, really incredible how, how now literally, with one app on my phone, you know, I can tell what color my shirt is, or I can, you know, read a barcode off the, you know, cat of soup to see what kind of soup it is. I mean, it's really fascinating. And, you know, technology is one of those things that you know, I I was never a big fan of say technology, you know, growing up, which I mean, I think I was blessed to the fact that there really wasn't, quote unquote, technology when I grew up. But you know, I never saw myself as somebody who, who would be so into technology, but becoming blind in with the advancements of technology. It's literally kind of a lifeline where it makes such a world of difference. And I mean, you know, it's it's just really awesome.   Michael Hingson ** 49:43 Well, I love to talk with people about technology, you bring up a very interesting thing. And one of the things that we talk about a lot on this podcast and that I do with people in general is that we have such a wrong concept of the term disability because Disability should not anymore mean a lack of ability. Disability is a characteristic. And I think you would probably agree with me if we discuss sighted people that they have a disability to, namely, that their disability is light dependence, they gotta have like affection. Yes. And Thomas Edison invented the electric light bulb in 1879. That was, as the Americans with Disabilities Act would say, a reasonable accommodation to help light dependent people be able to see in the dark. And the reality is that there is so much technology around lighting and so on, that disability is mostly covered up, but it doesn't change the fact that it's there. And so, I try to help people put blindness in perspective, because we don't have that problem. And so we don't worry about that. We use other kinds of technologies. But the fact is, we all use technologies to mitigate the disabilities or carry some of the characteristics that we have. And so it's no different for you than anyone else. And I do love the fact. And I agree with you that the more you can simplify and not use too many things, the better it is, there are several blind people who I know will talk about going to school into college in the 80s, and well into the 90s and early 2000s. And we're Braille readers, but also use technologies for other things. And it was almost like you had to carry this, at least this big, huge rolling suitcase, to carry all the technology around with you. And now, of course, as you said, an iPhone with VoiceOver, which is the screen reader that Apple builds into it, unless you use an Android phone. And then there are a couple of options for that. But the fact is that the technology is going to get simpler, and there are things that we can do that we never thought that we could do before. But the reality is that technology is making that more possible to do. Yeah. And that's what we really want. So we we continue to grow with that. And we do what we have to do. So what is your podcast today?   Kevin Lowe ** 52:22 Yeah, so the podcast is called Grit, grace and inspiration. And basically, the whole point of the podcast is to be that place of of inspiration, of encouragement of empowerment, trying to remind people that you're not the only one who's going through stuff, that we're all going through stuff, and we can all get through it. And so I get to feature interviews with, with as I call them, the real the real superheroes of the world, the people who are overcoming life's challenges to keep living life. And I just find so much pleasure, so much joy and getting to share their stories with the world. And you know, and so so I do that. So, every week on Tuesday, I released an interview, and then every Thursday, I released a solo episode, in which, you know, it's just just be talking to just you. And both of those are related to a lot of just mindset stuff, or some different tactics to help somebody overcome some problems. Or it might be something that was kind of related to that week's interview, something that I wanted to expand on. So yeah, yeah, like so the podcast is called a grit, grace and inspiration. And I mean, I'm getting ready. At the time of this recording, I'm getting ready to release my 200th episode. So   Michael Hingson ** 53:55 that's pretty exciting. When did you start it?   Kevin Lowe ** 53:57 So this is the same podcast, I started back in May of 2020. So so it's been three years, and it was rebranded twice.   Michael Hingson ** 54:06 But it's 200. From back in 2020. Yes, yeah. Cool. Yeah. So do you do all your own behind the scenes work, like editing and all that sort of stuff with it?   Kevin Lowe ** 54:15 No, sir. No, I, I, when I started the podcast, the editing thing was, was something at first that I was trying to figure out, and I kept trying some different, you know, programs. And I'm like, This is so frustrating. I'm not going to do it. And so I went on to Fiverr Have you ever used Fiverr? I have. Okay, so I went on Fiverr. And I searched for, you know, podcast editor. I found podcast editor. And I still wish to work with her today. It's so so as I say that, you know, I record the podcast, and then she makes it sound good. So   Michael Hingson ** 54:55 we got to meet through a company called amplify you and Debbie who Is there their support person, and they also do podcasts work, so I actually work with them. But I started out when we began unstoppable mindset. They did the hosting, and so on. But I tried to edit the podcasts. And I use a digital audio workstation or editor called Reaper, which actually is very accessible. But as you would attest, it's time consuming. And I decided it really didn't make sense. And so using their services anyway, they did the editing and all that makes it a whole lot better. And so I don't have to worry about it. I do rely on using decent equipment for doing the recording. What kind of microphone do you use?   Kevin Lowe ** 55:47 Yeah, so I use a with the Rode RODE Procaster Oh, okay. Yeah. And then that goes into I have the interface of the Focusrite vo caster as my interface, which I mentioned it specifically because I can't remember what the what the interface I was using before it because this is an XLR microphone. So can't plug right into the computer. So I have the interface? Well, I have to say that the focus right vo caster is so amazing. Because it has tactile buttons on the device that are super easy to use nice tactile knobs. And then it's app that installs on your computer works with JAWS. And so I'm able to easily navigate through it and change the different settings. Be sure that my mic level was all set, which literally just means like, it's like hallelujah, it's accessible. And it works. And   Michael Hingson ** 56:46 it has gotten more accessible over this past year. They've done a lot of work to improve the interface, which is great.   Kevin Lowe ** 56:52 Yes, yeah. So yeah. And like you said, Man, I just I the podcasting thing yet, you know, I just fell in love with it. And I fell in love with it. For the simple fact that I'm like, if it wasn't for having a podcast, I never even would have known that all of these amazing people exist in the world. Yeah, you know, and I feel like I feel like in the world today, we're so inundated with, with drama with trauma with everything we hear is the doom and gloom. And to be quite honest, it's easy to feel like the world is falling apart, and there's no hope anymore. And so when you instead get to fill your day, by talking to people who are amazing, it just reminds you that there is hope in the world, that everybody is not out to get you that everybody's not killing one another, that there's some amazing people in this world. And you know, and I say, you know, the, when I knew that this was the right thing for me to do was what I kept finding myself being in different interviews. And I kept finding myself, just pray in thanking God for putting me in this position. That's what I knew. I'm like, Kevin, I don't know where this path is gonna lead. But you're on the right path. So keep following it.   Michael Hingson ** 58:14 So there are a lot of coaches in the world, what makes you different and a coach that people should relate to and use?   Kevin Lowe ** 58:23 Yeah, so you know, I think my biggest thing is the fact of, I just, I'm just a human, I'm just a friend. And that's the kind of people who I like to work with is the people who don't view me as a coach view me as the best friend who doesn't know you isn't judging you. It's just there for you, to help you to be your guide. And, you know, I mentioned that, you know, I work primarily with women. Well, you know, a lot of people asked me, Well, why is that? And they said, Well, I feel like I finally figured out what the purpose was of me growing up with a older sister and, and a single mom for a lot of the time and, and watching nothing but chick flicks and Ella men movies and hanging out with all of their girlfriends. Obviously, it was for something and I came to realize it's because it may be a guy who realizes that I'm able to just work with women better than I am with it. And, and my style of coaching I think does lends its hand better to you know, working with women where we're able to just kind of really go deep and figure out the underlying issues of what's going on what they really want, and, you know, work together to get them to where they want to be.   Michael Hingson ** 59:42 So do you have a significant other in your life?   Kevin Lowe ** 59:45 I don't, I don't, the closest thing I have is my 10 pound Shibu named Sophia.   Michael Hingson ** 59:52 Well, that's something to work toward. That's   Kevin Lowe ** 59:54 a yes. Oh, trust me. Yes, yes, yes. Yes. And that would be that would be amazing. Yeah. us   Michael Hingson ** 1:00:01 that too shall come at the appropriate time, I   Kevin Lowe ** 1:00:03 am sure exactly, exactly. Well, if people want to   Michael Hingson ** 1:00:07 reach out to you would like to talk to you about working with you, and so on. How do they do that?   Kevin Lowe ** 1:00:13 Yeah, the the best place to go is my website that will have all my contact information. And that is literally just grit, Grace inspiration.com. And so if you go to that website, grit, Grace inspiration.com There, you can check out the podcast, but you can also easily get in touch with me, there's a contact form, find my contact information. So that's probably the easiest place to start.   Michael Hingson ** 1:00:38 Grit Great Grace inspiration.com, I will tell you, he is also a great interviewer. And you can tell he is quite a good talker, which is good. So I urge you all to seek Kevin out. I think that, that there's a lot that he has to offer. And I am so glad that we got to do this today. I've talked about Health Savings Accounts (HSA's) in the past but it was time for Matt Robison and I to revisit one of my favorite retirement accounts. You read that correctly, HSA's are great vehicles for retirement savings. Here's the four W's:What: What is a Health Savings account? It is an employee benefit intended to offset health care costs of high deductible insurance plans. Once opened, employees and employers can contribute to this account (more on this below). The money can be used now to pay for out of pocket medical expenses such as co-pays, prescriptions and even certain over-the-counter items such as sunscreen OR it can be saved to pay for medical expenses incurred in the future and to reimburse for expenses paid during the eligible period. Why: Why open an HSA? It's simple: Contributions made to the account are tax free. Eligible withdrawals are tax free. And all money earned in the account incurs no tax burden. That is the triple tax benefit! How: How do you open an HSA? Have a chat with your company's HR department. Evaluate your options. Choosing an insurance plan for your family that works for your current needs is the priority. If your employer offers a high deductible plan with an HSA and you have the means to cover your health care expenses, open the account. Contribute the maximum per year (often employers will contribute to these accounts as well so be sure to take advantage of FREE MONEY). Invest the money in the account in a low cost index fund. Let the money grow while you collect receipts for your eligible medical expenses. In 10-20 years, use all that cash to buy yourself a new knee or hip or reimburse yourself for all those kids' urgent care bills and pay NOTHING to Uncle Sam.Who: Who can take advantage of this amazing benefit? Anyone working for an employer that offers an HSA. Check with your HR department today!Tune in to hear more details about this savvy retirement savings strategy.Learn more about Mike and my services at https://www.mortonfinancialadvice.com and connect at https://www.linkedin.com/in/mwsmorton/Are you ready to create your ideal lifestyle? Why- Why does differentiated instruction matter? 3. How-How do I differentiate instruction in my upper elementary literacy classroom? One way to make this happen is to create paths for them to be able to access mastery of the standards we teach them each day.  - An intentional mini lesson really is the best vehicle for delivering high quality research based instruction.  -Small group and whole group  instruction can both be ineffective if they are poorly planned and all around unintentional. Why- Why is tier 1 instruction important and why is it important to make it available to everyone? 3. How- How do I deliver high quality tier 1 instruction? It consists of the basics as dictated by your grade level standards that students need in order to grow as readers. -Tier 1 instruction is important. Jesus commissioned the twelve disciples. He empowered them, informed them of their duties, and gave them specific instructions on how to carry out their responsibilities. You can be assured that God has a job for you as well. If you allow Him, He will commission you, lay out your duties, and instruct every step you take from here forward. (Matthew 10:1-15, Mark 6:7-13, Luke 9:1-6) ******* Welcome to Walking in the Word, a Women World Leaders' podcast. My name is Julie Jenkins, and I am your host as we walk through scripture together, asking God to guide us as we learn what He wants us to know today. If you are new to our podcast, we have three different offerings for you. On Mondays, Kimberly Hobbs hosts Empowering Lives with Purpose – a 30-minute interview with a different woman of faith who shares her story. These podcasts are incredible – and I'm telling you, you never know what you are going to get! Although the topics range from movie production to overcoming abuse to being a loving parent, these podcasts have one common thread. That is that each of the women who are interviewed has seen God's glory and power at work in their lives. And as you listen, you can't help but begin to understand more fully how God may be at work in YOUR life. On Fridays, our team of hosts catapults us into the weekend with Celebrating God's Grace. This is a glorious time to celebrate and learn from all that God is doing not only in this ministry but in the world. And today…on Wednesdays, we open the Word of God as we walk systematically through scripture. We are currently walking through the gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John – chronologically, as we strive to uncover what God wants us to know from each chapter of Jesus' life here on earth. Last week we highlighted the fact that there is plenty in this world for us to do! And when we answer that call, there is also plenty of joy to go around. Because when we follow God's call and do the work that He has commissioned us for, we will receive the ultimate satisfaction that only following God can give. So how do we know WHAT God calls us to do? I can't tell you the what…that is between you and God. But as we study Matthew 10:1-15, Mark 6:7-13, and Luke 9:1-6 from the New Living Translation, I believe you will walk away with the HOW…HOW you can follow God's commissioning for your life. God does have a job for you, one that He is just waiting to reveal. He wants to commission you, lay out your duties, and instruct your every step. Let's look at HOW we can each allow Him to do just that. Before we begin, let's pray… Dear Most Holy God…we are here because we want to follow you. We want that tangible connection with you. We want our lives to be worthwhile – and we know that doing what you have called us to is the key. But what is it that you have called us each to? Will you open our ears today to your instruction, open our minds so that we may understand your will, and open our hearts to be willing to go where you call? Help us, in these next few minutes, to hear and understand your scripture and to apply it to our lives in a way that is honoring to you. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.   Matthew chapter 10 begins… 10 Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil[a] spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness. This must have been a surprise for the disciples! They had followed Jesus and had learned from Him…I imagine they still felt like they had SO MUCH to learn! And yet, here was Jesus, giving them HIS authority to do the work HE had been doing! I think we have all felt like this at one time or another – simply not qualified to do the work that was ahead of us. My oldest daughter is about to graduate from college. She has been well-prepared! She has taken her classes and leadership opportunities seriously, and she has a great job offer. And now it's time to fly! But that can be a little scary! One friend I was speaking to recently said, “I remember when I began my first real job. A big problem came up. And I thought…I need to find an adult to help…and then I realized…I AM the adult!” Life has a cyclical upward spiral to it. … We are first taken care of, then we begin to watch others, are instructed, and then we practice…and suddenly it is our time to perform. Then WE become the ones in charge…and later, we are actually the ones to instruct and guide others. It all kind of sounds like a common-sense approach to life…until, perhaps, you are the one being handed the reins. Matthew goes on to remind us in the next verses WHO the disciples were that Jesus was granting this authority to…and the bottom line is that they were NOBODY SPECIAL! They were not super-educated, wealthy, or of royal blood. They were normal – your average Joe's. Some would say they weren't qualified to be doing what Jesus was telling them to do. And yet they were granted the authority of GOD…to cast out evil spirits and heal EVERY kind of disease! Jesus gave them HIS authority, and then, He gave them instructions. First, He told them WHERE to go “Don't go to the Gentiles or the Samaritans, 6 but only to the people of Israel—God's lost sheep.  And then He told them WHAT to do… 7 Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near.[d] 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received! It was as if they had a playbook. Some steps may have seemed easy. They were to go to their own people – the Jews. The theological reasoning behind this instruction is that Jesus came first to the Jews and THEN to the Gentiles…and this was still the beginning, so the Gentiles weren't intentionally brought in yet. This instruction could have been considered simple – the disciples understood the culture, and the Jews were WAITING for the Messiah – so this news of the kingdom should have been welcomed. In some places, it was…in others, not so much. But the kicker was, the disciples had no foreknowledge of how they would be received in each place. They did, however, know what they were to do. They were to announce that the kingdom of heaven had come and then show the power, care, and concern of the kingdom of heaven by healing the sick, raising the dead, and casting out demons. Surely this would make the welcome mat more accessible to the disciples as they followed Jesus' instructions. BUT…they HAD seen what Jesus had gone through…the persecution by the Pharisees…even the accusations that He was accessing Satan's powers. So while there was no doubt WHAT Jesus was instructing the disciples to do…and that the adventure He was offering them was exciting…it was also true that this adventure didn't come without risk. As a result, there must have been quite the mix of feelings among the 12. SO… they knew WHERE they were to go, and WHAT they were to do, and their heads were likely swimming. But there were further instructions… Matthew 10:9 records Jesus' words…   9 “Don't take any money in your money belts—no gold, silver, or even copper coins. 10 Don't carry a traveler's bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Mark 6 instructs them to bring “no food, no traveler's bag, and no money”…but makes a note…9 He allowed them to wear sandals but not to take a change of clothes. Well, that was nice. I'm glad I wasn't one of the 12…I just might have rolled my eyes…oh gee, thanks Jesus…I'm allowed to wear shoes!...Yay.. Jesus knows our shortcomings… Nevertheless, I bet the disciples were a bit confounded as to HOW this was all going to work...so, graciously, Jesus answered their questions BEFORE they could voice them…saying… Don't hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed. So they were expected to work, and they WOULD be fed…if they accepted the help that God was prepared to send…and Jesus told them step by step how it would work…Matthew 10:11… 11 “Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town. 12 When you enter the home, give it your blessing.  But Jesus also provided them with instructions should things go wrong…verse 13… 13 If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing. 14 If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave. Mark says… 11 But if any place refuses to welcome you or listen to you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.” AND, Jesus reminds them that God's protection is greater than ANYTHING they will encounter… 15 I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day. Finally, Luke 9:6 tells us that the 12 obeyed… 6 So they began their circuit of the villages, preaching the Good News and healing the sick.   Wow! As I read this and take it apart, my thoughts begin to swim at the complexity of the situation! The disciples were FOLLOWING Jesus…learning from Him…HE was the teacher. And suddenly, they were being thrust into the drivers' seat. The path seemed exciting…but the instructions were overwhelming! And following God's call took faith and courage. Faith that they were truly entrusted with the power of Jesus to do what He had called them to do. Courage to step out and proclaim that the kingdom of heaven had come. Faith to believe in the kingdom of heaven despite human doubts that surely crept in. Courage to travel without any provisions and very little plan. Faith that God would provide for them and protect them along the way. We can see that, for the disciples at this juncture, it wasn't knowing what they were called to that was the problem. Their biggest obstacle was having the faith to look to God in every situation and having the courage to step into the unknown as they followed that call. Remember at the beginning I asked the question …. HOW do we know what God calls us to do? The answer to that comes in the very first line of this section of scripture…”Jesus called his twelve disciples”… God has a different calling for each of us…a calling that we can only hear when we go to Him regularly. See…the disciples had gotten in the habit of following Jesus, of watching Him, and learning from Him. And one day…He called them to something HUGE. We read the instructions, and our minds spin. But they answered obediently – because they had spent so much time watching and learning from Jesus and taking small steps of obedience which allowed their faith and courage to grow. They were prepared. Each of us is going to have a different calling…and when you spend time with God, He will prepare you for that calling. He will build the faith and the courage you need, step by step, until He is ready to reveal His plan.   God is SMOOTH! Just like the loving parent or teacher who prepares you for adulthood until you are, undoubtedly ready to fly, God will prepare you with each step of obedience you take. The problem for most of us is not knowing WHAT we are called to, but having the courage and faith to step out WHEN we are called. We are called to take a step of obedience every day! The question is…do we have the faith and courage to respond even when the step seems trivial and we can't see the point, or, on the contrary, when the leap seems daunting or the outcome looks exciting, but scary? We can trust that God's timing is always perfect. His provision and protection are always perfect. And His preparation and leading are always perfect. The disciples were called to COME to Jesus before they were called to GO for Jesus. They were called to learn and walk in obedience …taking what may have felt like small steps, strengthening their legs for the leaps of faith God was yet to call them to. You too are called to give your yes in humble obedience as God places stepping stones in front of you. The path He is creating IS your calling! And it is more significant than you can BEGIN to imagine! Take the one step He is calling you to today – in faith and with courage. He WILL instruct you all along the way, and He will lead you to a lifetime full of exciting adventures and victories that will point, always, to His glory. Dear God…you know just how to meet each one of us. And we thank you, for letting us be a part of your plan, and for tailoring that plan for each of us. God, help us always trust your call on our lives. Give us the courage and the faith to step out in obedience! Thank you for always calling us TO YOU even as you ask us to go FOR you. We love you, and we give you this day. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Thank you for leaning in and listening to episode 14 of CALM Conversations about Learning! This episode wraps up the Lesson pillar and discusses the magic that happens when we bridge intention and impact and shares some ways to approach effective lesson-planning. Conversation Points: An effective lesson is driven by Intention and Impact. Structure + Engagement = IMPACTSome basic journalistic questions for the Lesson include... WHO (Who is the Child--not just academically but personally and socially?)WHAT (What skills or knowledge is being taught?)WHY (Why does the Child need to learn the content of this lesson?)HOW (How will the lesson be taught?)There are a few questions to ask when considering the WHY:How will the learning goals or objectives in this lesson serve my child or students in their current and future educational endeavors? In what ways will this lesson improve or challenge my child's or student's existing skills, knowledge and interests? How will my child or students use these skills or this knowledge in their personal, career or civic lives? You won't always get it right-- and that is okay. What matters is the child's learning and your willingness to pivot and revise! If you practice being genuine, compassionate, respectful and interested in who children are, they'll forgive you the occasional flat lesson. CALM-Keeper Ideas#1: Create a “Getting to Know You” Questionnaire and or have your child/ students write a Letter of Introduction. Then study what they've written, making note of what's relevant for building healthy relationships and planning effective and even powerful lessons.#2: Use the WHY questions as a Checklist for the effectiveness of your lesson (even if you didn't produce it yourself...especially if you didn't produce it yourself!)#3: Use backward design when lesson-planning  and don't just stop with the Learning Goals. Plan all the way back to the relationship and ask, “What do I know about the Child?”Visionary Homework: Create a questionnaire or letter of introduction prompt; try backward design with the child  in mind!  If you'd like a sample of my “Getting to Know You” questionnaire or prompt for the letter of introduction, DM me on the INSTAGRAM @zenani116! Do the Podcast-Listener Thing: Follow. Welcome to The Champagne Society. I'm Gervase Kolmos - Certified  Coach for mamas and your host for our NEW PODCAST! The Champagne Society started 3ish years ago before in-person fun was cancelled. And man it was magical. It was a glorious kid-free, judgment-free space for moms of littles. But then the entire world changed... This podcast was born out of love, excitement and a hope to create something that felt as good as it looked. For months, I kept thinking, “What would be the same if nothing changed?” Every woman needs to have some FREAKIN' FUN. Pandemic or not. We're never the only ones experiencing human moments; ups and downs. No one has their -ish together all the time and we're tired of pretending that we do.  Our community was built in small local venues with 30-100 women sitting shoulder to shoulder, snapping for solidarity, laughing (sometimes crying) and giving each other permission to make it “motherhood and” instead of “motherhood, or." Our goal? Is to bring our famous Unfiltered Conversations normalizing the struggle of the juggle and challenging each other to do better can still continue. Each week I'm interviewing some of the most powerful and inspiring moms I know to hear their hard-earned lessons learned on what it really takes to have it all as a woman, a mother, an entrepreneur and a multi-faceted human. We'll go deep and we'll go there, so be ready. We're Going DEEP on the real issues that affect all humans and especially entrepreneurial mamas with littles. Grab a drink and wear whatever the F you want, and carve out some mama time to hear me say the things everyone else is thinking but scared to admit, and remind you, along with our guests, that yes, you do need to show up for yourself, and no, you're not the only one who's having trouble doing so. Expect “me, toos” and real talk plus actual answers to your main questions re: HOW - How do you juggle motherhood with your entrepreneurial ambitions, relationships, self-care and limited time? Well, listen to find out, b/c we're gonna talk about it, with curse words, because sometimes you just need em. Raising a glass to you, mama. Let's do this.
