Send us a textBefore the World Premiere of his very first play, Judson Jones streamed into the Playwright's Spotlight. We discussed his background in theatre, film, and television and his journey to writing his first play and any challenges he overcame. We dove into hitting the flow state, introducing new ideas, the appreciation of new works, storytelling through Post-It notes, working with deadlines, collaborating with designers and the benefits of simplicity and justification as well as eliminating and having an outside eye. We wrap with delving into devices vs dialogue, working with sensitive subject matter, writing out of order, and observing the loss of grace in society. It's a very heartwarming conversation. Enjoy! His play Canaan Unremembered opened March 24th at the Court Square Theater in Long Island City, New York and runs through April 19th, 2025. Team Deakins speaks with actor Benicio del Toro (SICARIO, TRAFFIC, THE FRENCH DISPATCH). Benicio expresses his gratitude to the Stella Adler Studio for serving him as a bastion in which he weathered the storm of rejections he faced early in his career. We discuss the definition of heroes on screen and what it means to play them, and Benicio considers the different demands of acting in superhero films in comparison to more grounded projects. We walk down memory lane remembering working together on SICARIO. Towards the end, we reflect that no production is the same experience and not one was the experience we thought it would be. - This conversation was recorded on May 2, 2023. - This episode is sponsored by Falca & TrueCut Motion & Dallas Film Commission Instagram: @falcagram & @truecutmotion & @dallasfilmcommission

Back in ninth grade, I knew that Jeremiah was a performer when he was break dancing for the other team before our soccer games during a school trip to what was then the USSR, but at the time, he was really known as the best athlete in school. September 11th and sense of responsibility for our freedom sent him to the Army, Special Forces and three tours in Iraq. Mental health remains a huge issue for our returning Veterans. Even though a difficult divorce met him at home, volunteering and acting have served as his therapy. He's consumed, gaining credits, learning everything he can and is studying at the Stella Adler Studio in Los Angeles. Watch for him

As we binge through our favorite shows, watch that go-to comfort movie for the 150th time, and curiosity scroll through the protagonists' real life social media pages, we often find ourselves wondering what the actor life is like. Daydreaming about how we would be in front of the camera for the whole world to see. Working alongside people that we have been enthralled and entertained by. Forgetting that most of the individuals we love and love to hate through our endless streams have had to fight and claw to the position they are in. This week on The Malliard Report, we get a rare chance to pull back that curtain and see just how life as an actor really…plays out… with special guest Sean Dillingham. Sean Dillingham “…has appeared in over 135+ commercials and 70+ films and 25 national television series. He's had network television appearances on Operation REPO, Discovery ID, Buried in the Backyard, The NightShift, Longmire, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, This is Us, There's Johnny, Yellowstone & Better call Saul! He has acted alongside Kevin Costner, Tony Danza, Jane Seymour, Patrick Duffy, Roger Bart, Don Ameche, Stacy Keache, John O'Hurley, Andre Braugher, Andy Samberg, Milo Ventimiglia, Bob Odenkirk, Aidan Quinn, BJ Novak, Ashton Kutcher and more. Sean has trained with the top Improv Theatres in the country including The Second City, The Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade and I.O. West. He also studied acting with both the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.” This is a fantastic episode because we are able to glimpse into a realm so few actually get to see. Sean also shares about how moving different places regularly as a kid can be difficult, the status of (or decline of) the entertainment industry today, and so much more. You can head over to Sean's website seandillingham.com or find at least one of his shows on your favorite streaming service. There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.

He is currently working on his memoir detailing his time spent as bass player and keyboardist for the alt-rock group Interpol, from 1998 to 2010. After leaving the band, Carlos enrolled at Stella Adler Studio of Acting and then was fortunate to have been accepted to NYU Grad Acting, where he received his MFA in Acting in 2015. Since graduation, Carlos has been working in the theatre, creating and launching a successful one-man show called “Homo Sapiens Interruptus” for the NY International Fringe Festival of 2016, and cast in a recent production of “A Babylon Line” by the great playwright Richard Greenberg at Lincoln Center Theater featuring actor Josh Radnor in the lead. In early 2016, Carlos appeared briefly on “The Late Night with Seth Meyers” show, filling in on bass guitar with The 8G Band, the Seth Meyers house band. Carlos has also spent time crafting his approach to memoir writing. He was recently published by the literary magazine N+1 with an essay, “Stories of Excess.” He is currently finishing up the first stages of a publishing deal for his upcoming book, detailing his time in the band, his personal life and childhood, and his observations upon leaving behind life in the music industry. Maya Shoef is an Israeli actress and is most famous for her roles as a protagonist of the Israeli television series Split and Alex: Pros and Cons. After moving to New-York to study at the "Stella Adler Studio of Acting" she decided to come back to Israel, mainly because she missed her family and friends. From a professional point of view, Maya's decision to come back to Israel was a sacrifice. No one wants to feel like he's going backwards, especially not Maya. This situation forced her to expand her horizons and to open up to another passion she was never aware of. In this chapter she talks about this transition, about having a multidisciplinary career and the opportunities and challenges it brings to her life.
