Text a Message to the ShowIn the early days of this podcast, I began by bringing in patrol officers and asking them a series of about 25 questions, covering all aspects of their patrol experience. From that initial batch of interviews I would pick a topic, stitch together the responses of several officers, and create compilation bonus episodes I called "Firsthand Accounts." It's been three years since I've produced any of those firsthand account episodes and I've been promising that I would interview a batch of detectives and do the whole process over again. That project has been delayed several times but it is finally starting to come together and I wanted to give you a small downpayment on what is developing. Specifically, one of the questions I'm asking these detectives is "what is your big story." Here are a couple samples. Contributing to the episode are detectives V. Garner and A. Turnage. The previous Firsthand Account episodes about Patrol Officers were Bonus Episodes 2, 3, 5, 9, and 11. Dive into this epic conversation on the Mike Drop Podcast with Green Beret legend Mark Giaconia. A 20-year Army veteran who traded infantry boots for Special Forces grit, Mark opens up about his raw reaction to 9/11—burning with jealousy as Fifth Group charged into Afghanistan, only to carve his own pinnacle in Iraq's brutal ops. But before the GWOT glory, he takes us back to the forgotten chaos of Bosnia in the late '90s, where peacekeeping turned into high-stakes intel gathering: embedding in remote villages, renting houses amid fresh war scars, and dodging tense standoffs with Serbian cops who grabbed their weapons at the sight of an American. From concealed pistols and civilian rides to wild encounters—like spotting a Beirut bombing fugitive in a roadside eatery or monitoring Russian convoys on the brink of World War III—Mark's stories pulse with the raw edge of undercover life in a powder keg. We geek out on metal shredding (check Patreon for the deep dive), philosophy from Socrates to Nietzsche, and his time-travel wish to homestead in colonial Connecticut. Whether it's surviving Ranger School's 200+ day grind, losing 40 pounds in the suck, or bonding with locals over slivovitz amid genocide echoes, this episode hooks you with unfiltered warrior wisdom, historical twists, and the unexamined life's brutal truths. Don't miss Mark's insights on human nature, founding principles, and why the Balkans' hospitality hides a world of shadows—perfect fuel for any Mike Drop fan craving real talk from the front lines. In this powerful episode, Brendi Wells—author, journalist, and producer of Caravan to Midnight—joins the program to share her firsthand experience living in South Africa, where she is a citizen. Brendi opens up about the horrifying reality on the ground, describing how hundreds of her friends and acquaintances have been murdered by what she calls a righteous mob—violence that she says is not only ignored but effectively endorsed by the South African government. She details the discriminatory laws targeting white farmers, the systematic seizure of land, and the growing hostility rooted in state-sanctioned policies. This is a gripping and emotional account of a human rights crisis that receives far too little global attention. You can learn more and follow Brendi Wells at https://JellyFish.news

Jayant Bhandari, a private strategic resource investor that consults many high-net-worth investors, joins me to share his takeaways on the economic health of China, US and China trade relations, his outlook on copper demand and gold demand, and opportunities he sees in handful of junior resource stocks. We start off in a general discussion about the economic health in China, since he is traveling there for a couple of months at present and have frequently traveled there for stretches of time over many years. This leads into discussions about all the recent news on US/China trade relations, tariffs, and manufacturing. The focus then shifts to the importance of China to the whole commodities sector, since they also have most of the processing and manufacturing capacity on a global scale. We get Jayant's outlook on both gold and copper demand, why he remains quite bullish on gold, but is less certain of the future demand from China as it relates to copper. The balance of the discussion focuses in on value arbitrage setups and opportunities in a number of resource stocks he holds in his own portfolio. Companies that we review are: Integra Resources Corp. (TSXV: ITR) (NYSE American: ITRG), NexGold Mining Corp. (TSXV: NEXG; OTCQX: NXGCF), the merger of Quebec Precious Metals Corporation (TSXV:QPM) with Fury Gold Mines Ltd (TSX: FURY)(NYSE American: FURY), Group Eleven Resources Corp. (TSXV: ZNG) (OTC Pink: GRLVF), and Aztec Minerals Corp. (TSX-V: AZT), (OTCQB: AZZTF). Coming full circle in this discussion, we highlight the mad rush into many niche critical minerals like tungsten, antimony, geranium, and rare earths due to the export restrictions from China of these metals into the US. Wrapping up, Jayant shares more information about why listeners may want to attend his Capitalism and Morality conference on August 22-23 this year in Vancouver. This week John Mattingly and I sit down to discuss "12 Seconds In The Dark", A Police Officers Firsthand Account of the Breonna Taylor Raid. I started off the interview apologizing to John for doing what I think a lot of us do when it comes to incidents that are reported in the media, we believe what we are told. At every turn mainstream media has failed to report the truth and have conveniently replaced it with whatever version supports the us vs them , defund, movement. They run with lies because agency leadership allows them to do so. When lies aren't challenged with the truth, when repeated enough, those lies become facts in the eyes of the public. John Mattingly, his brothers on that warrant, his family in the aftermath have been betrayed. If you don't think I can happen to you, give this podcast a listen, reflect, and commit to being better in all that you do. On this episode we revisit the case of the State of Alabama v. Brittany Smith, a documentary we covered on episode #117 of this podcast. Our special guest today is Carolyn, who served time in the same prison as Brittany, at the same time as Brittany, at the Julia Tutwiler prison for women in Wetumpka, Alabama. Carolyn speaks very openly about her experience in the criminal justice system in Alabama and shares with us the harsh realities facing female inmates and the intersection between the prison system and the education system. You don't want to miss this enlightening episode. The State of Alabama v. Brittany Smith is a harrowing story about a woman trying to use Alabama's stand your ground law as a defense after killing a man who brutally attacked and raped her in her own home and held her hostage in her home for days. In over 30 US States, including Alabama, state law makes it legal to use lethal force to defend oneself against threats or even perceived threats. However, the defense seems only to apply to white men. When invoked by women or men of color it rarely, if ever, succeeds. We have a PATREON! click on link below to check out the extra content:PatreonPlease SUBSCRIBE to the podcast and give us a 5-star rating and review. We are on Instagram and TikTok @psychlegalpopEmail: psychlegalpoppodcast@gmail.com#stateofalabamavbrittanysmith #brittanysmith #standyourground #prison #prisonreform #womenandprison #womenandcrime #psychology #attorney #therapist #law #lawyer Hosted on Acast. City crews were in the process of installing new ones ahead of the Super Bowl.Louisiana Considered's Alana Schreiber spoke with Juliette Kayyem, a national security expert and senior lecturer at the Harvard Kennedy School. They discussed why security on Bourbon Street was so ineffective and what needs to be done about it.While Louisianans still have questions about what happened, many are focused on recovery efforts. In the days since the attack, blood drives have popped up across the city and thousands are coming out to donate.Alana Schreiber visited one of those blood drives on the corner of Iberville and Canal Street to speak with residents who want to play a part in recovery efforts.___Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Alana Schreiber and Drew Hawkins. 0:00 - ESPN's Jeff Legwold made his weekly appearance with us before Denver's do-or-die game against the Chiefs 2nd stringers on Sunday.18:28 - Jake Plummer, former ASU and Denver Broncos QB, was on the sidelines for the ASU vs Texas clash in the Peach Bowl. He joined the show to share his firsthand account of that back-and-forth, up-and-down, nailbiter of a game. 36:00 - Earlier today, Moser told a story about the Le Mans, and like most Moser stories, it wasn't well received. A caller had a...very vivid description of something he'd rather do instead of listening to Moser's story.
(For frequent listeners, I made a mistake with last week's episode. THIS is the episode I meant to publish last week. I know it has the same description. Sorry about that.)This disaster recovery case study takes you inside a real DR scenario when a hurricane devastated an island's data center. Our guest shares his firsthand experience managing recovery efforts with limited resources, no mainland connection, and countless unexpected challenges. (This is the on-the-ground account of the story we told last week with "Harry Potter.")Listen as we explore how basic DR assumptions fell apart, from authentication dependencies to satellite communication limits. Learn why sleeping on air mattresses and eating chicken and rice became part of this disaster recovery case study, and discover critical lessons about DR planning, testing, and documentation that could save your organization. This episode reveals the reality of disaster recovery when everything - including trees - gets stripped away.

There's good news in the midst of the horrible news. We do need to recognize what's going on with the hurricanes and the storms. But, there's also some political news that I think is leaning into something positive: the Democrats' racism for profit scheme seems to be collapsing. What does God's Word say? 2 Corinthians 1:3-43 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.Episode Links:Biden asked by a reporter if Gov. Over the past few years, much has been written and created around Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project, but little attention is paid to those whose lives were ended or forever changed when the bombs dropped in Japan. In this episode, we delve into the experiences of the hibakusha, the survivors of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. On that day the Enola Gay released its devastating payload, ushering in the nuclear age. The survivors, now with an average age of over 90, provide some of the last living testimonies of the horrors that unfolded in the seconds, minutes, and hours following the explosion.Today's guest is M.G. Sheftall, author of The Stories of Hibakusha. Sheftall has spent years interviewing those who were young adolescents at the time of the bombing, now elderly but still haunted by their memories.
