Making a return for his second appearance on StoryBeat is the great jazz and world flutist, Michael Mason. Michael's been playing professionally for more than 40 years.  He's led off for Trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, had master classes with James Newton, been influenced by Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, performed with New Orleans Saxophonist Edward “Kidd” Jordan and Chicago's legendary Fred Anderson. He's also collaborated with James Galway and many artists from the legendary AACM organization.Michael's musical influences include Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Sun Ra, and Yusef Lateef.More than a composer and musician, Michael was also a working firefighter for 38 years and is now Retired Lieutenant Michael Mason of the Downers Grove, Illinois Fire Department. Today we pause to Honor our Nations Veterans on this 11th of November 2021.We Salute our Veterans on this day and Honor all who have served and continue serving to secure our freedom and way of life.It is also difficult to not stop and humbly remember our over 7,000 U. S. Service Members who have perished in the post-9/11 war operations and honor our Gold Star Families.On a previous Episode on September 11, twenty-years after the tragic events, we spoke about that calm early Tuesday morning, countless acts of heroism and selflessness, and how First Responder Emergency personnel and members of our Military raced into the World Trade Center Towers and our Nations Pentagon.We say this because today, we have a very special guest! Someone who is not only a friend, father, husband, and someone I have had the pleasure teaching with across the country, BUT add to that VETERAN and First Responder and doing it all at the same time. That is what we call a SOLID RESPONDER.

There have been a few events in all our lives these events or circumstances are always happening to us. These events can be seen as great and positive or they can be perceived as being disastrous and awful. I have had a few big events happen here recently. I have started certification in a coaching course that I have drooled over for several tears and the opportunity has finally presented itself. So, I decided to take it. I am going to be sharing what I learn and as I go through the class my definitions and uses of words may change as I make new discoveries about what I believe and if and when they change I will be sharing those with you here on the podcast and in the blog. Maybe your life has had circumstances where you were abused or you had a parent abandon you. Maybe you were raised by your mom and she had a parade of boyfriends come through each one treated you differently. Maybe you had an uncle who dumped all over your dream or a teacher who said you would never make it. Maybe you had a parent ground you from everything you liked to do. Then again maybe your life is in total disarray, or you live in an abusive relationship. You see your life as crap and the only solace you can find is a hit off the bottle or to drag on a bong. The point is we all have circumstances in our life and they are there. There is no denying that stuff happens. It may be good or it may be bad but it is a part of your life. What are circumstances? Now for ease, I do want to define what circumstances are. because our definitions and meanings of words can vary from person to person. What you think of as a circumstance by one person may be viewed as just an observance. So it will help if I can define what an event is. Circumstance = a fact or condition connected with or relevant to an event or action. In other words, it is the facts of your life. You are broken. May seem as if it is a fact when in reality it isn't. You may have gone through some stuff in your life but is that provable in court? What you see as a hard life may be seen as "easy street" to another person. Many people here in the USA may see the poor but when you compare them to those considered poor in India or Africa you see that our poor are actually very wealthy. Circumstances are nothing more than the bare facts of your life. They are not the emotions you are feeling nor are they the opinions as to what you are feeling. They are just the facts. Your bank account says you only have 32 cents left. That is a fact. Your wife throws things at you. That is a fact. Your son smokes cigarettes. That is a fact. Your son is disrespectful. Not a fact. Your daughter shows too much skin. Not a fact Your wife hates you. Not a fact. Do you see the difference? Facts are concrete. They are not what you believe. Beliefs are thoughts you perceive to be true. They are not thoughts that is what you are thinking of the circumstance. Facts are facts, and I get that the definition of facts has been warped thanks to those who like to play with words and change them to mean what they think the word should mean. I try not to do that, and for one the definition of circumstance will be the facts and nothing more. Circumstances are neutral Now, this may be a bit shocking for some. Facts are neither positive nor are they negative. They simply are. Circumstances do not have a meaning till we apply a thought to them. So your life is hard and challenging is the thought you have about the circumstance of you not having enough money to buy a hamburger. Many people want to push back against the thought that a circumstance is neutral. They say so a car wreck where someone dies is neutral? Yep, it is. Natural disasters are neutral? Yes, they are. Your grandmother dying is neutral? Again yes it is. Even the events of 9-11 are neutral. They all are neutral until we apply our thoughts to that circumstance. The people in the USA were mad and horrified by the toppling of the twin towers. So our thoughts were that this was horrible and created a feeling of unease and anger in us. Yet on the other side of the world in the Middle East, there were people celebrating the falling of the World Trade Center Towers. Was one wrong? Well, that is a thought. An example of having two different thoughts on a single circumstance is when you and your friend go to the same movie at the same time in the same theater and both walk out of the movie with a different experience. I had this experience when I was dating a girl and we went to see Natural Born Killers. She hated the movie and I thought it was great. Were we seeing different movies? No, she just had a different thought of the movie we had just watched. It's about your thoughts Your thoughts are what's creating your suffering. I get that there may be a bit of cognitive dissidence going on there, but it is true. Your thoughts are what actually create your emotions and those emotions are what keep you from doing the things you want to do. So do I just change my thoughts? You can if you decide that the thought isn't serving you. If you are tired of having your life appear crappy then change how you are looking at your life. It takes work. Don't get me wrong it isn't an easy fix it takes examining what you are thinking over and over and over again to really get across the gap of changing your beliefs. You will want to go back to what is comfortable and doesn't take that much energy to do but if you work at it you can go from the comfort of self-imposed misery to the excitement of new adventures. A 9/11 Widow's Journey – With Jennifer Sands Jennifer's nest become tragically empty on 9/11 when she lost her husband, best friend, scuba diving partner and love of her life. Jim died as the World Trade Center Towers fell. For a long time after 9/11, Jennifer looked at God through the eyes of anger and contempt. Through a series of events, her anger was downgraded to disappointment, then it changed to curiosity. Eventually Jennifer looked at God thru the eyes of acceptance and trust. Now, she shares of her love and trust in Him. She gazes at Him through the eyes of reverence, love, adoration and gratitude. Today, Jennifer encourages widows and others. She is thankful for God, who brought her blessings from brokenness. When she made a commemorative scuba dive in Jim's honor, and underwater memorial dive, the Holy Spirit spoke to her and she gave her life to Christ. Jennifer often shares Gen. 50:20. This episode is a very special one! I so wanted to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11, when the World Trade Center Towers shockingly came down twenty years ago on this day.  Being that I live in close proximity to New York City, it's impossible to ignore the anniversary each year, and it is especially hard this year with the end of the “Forever War” in Afghanistan that was launched in response to the 9/11 assault. My guest this week is a gentleman who was in the Tower that day and lived to tell about it, the first survivor of 9/11 I have ever spoken with directly.  Kushal Choksi, who came to America from India, was working for Goldman Sachs at that time, and was realizing the so-called “American Dream”.  He was ascending the corporate ladder, and avidly integrating into the company's go-go culture until that fateful day dramatically changed his life.  Kushal's accounts of that day are compelling and visceral:Seeing the second tower get hit with his "naked eye" and being right underneath it as it happened. The grey cloud outside looking just like an apocalyptic movie, with splinters and embers falling from the sky.Running mindlessly through the streets, and leaping onto a ferry that had already left the dock.There are so many wonderful lessons in this episode. Kushal's story is so much about negotiating life when we face unexpected difficult circumstances. Erick Robertson was a First Responder Cadaver dog handler at Ground Zero in 2001. Over the past 20 years he has been able to interact with people across the country as he spoke about his time there and his work with Search and Rescue K9. Erick learned that a very large percent of the people he spoke to would never have the opportunity to visit the 9/11 National Memorial and Museum in New York City. From that knowledge he started a nonprofit foundation that has been building the largest mobile tribute exhibition in US history that will travel to an estimated 1400 locations across the USA that have honored the victims of 9/11 with monuments made from the steel beams of the World Trade Center Towers. In addition to that memorial exhibition, he has recently launched a 9/11 Remembered "Let's Roll" Podcast tour that will criss cross the country recording the anecdotal stories of America's memories of 9/11/2001. It is Ericks hope that 9/11 will no longer be spoken about just once a year. Richie is joined my Matt Campbell. Twenty years ago, Matt's brother Geoff was killed in the 9/11 attack on The World Trade Center Towers. Geoff was 31 at the time and was there for a conference. Matt Campbell and his family have never quit, in their quest for justice for Geoff. Matt's research has led him to believe that the official account of what happened that day is false. In Part 3 of my four-part series on the work of the 9/11 Consensus Panel, I speak with David Chandler about the physics behind the collapse of the three World Trade Center Towers on September 11th, 2001. Why do the buildings look like they came down in controlled demolition by carefully placed explosives? "Because," says David, "That is what happened." He says, "I tell people, you can see what happened with your own eyes, by doing the physics, I am just proving that you're not crazy."The 9/11 Consensus Panel has just published its six-year investigation of best evidence consensus regarding the events surrounding the crimes that took place on September 11th, 2001. Their book released on September 11th, 2018 is called 9/11 Unmasked: An International Review Panel Investigation. Even the distribution of the book has not been without intrigue. While the book was printed and sent to Amazon for distribution by September 11th, the Amazon website (as of September 17th) still says the item is not in stock.  I pre-ordered my copy on August 14th and it arrived September 17th. The publisher says Amazon does have the books. 9/11 Unmasked may be ordered from the publisher, Interlink Books. Edward Curtin, who wrote a review of the book, also wrote a piece about this unusual action by Amazon, Amazon Censorship of 9/11 Unmasked.  Curtin writes:"Readers should demand that Amazon immediately change their website and accept orders to be shipped today. Whether they are responsible for this game of chaotic discouragement or the intelligence services, who are fully capable of hacking into Amazon, as Edward Snowden has pointed out, I do not know. But something very odd is happening and Amazon should correct it." Here also is a review from University of Sheffield Professor, Piers Robinson.David Chandler has a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Harvey Mudd College, a Master of Arts in education, and a Master of Science in mathematics from California Polytechnic University. He recently retired from teaching physics, mathematics, and astronomy at the high school and college levels since 1972, and has now moved to Denver. Since about 2007 he has been active as a researcher with what he calls the "science wing" of the 9/11 Truth Movement. He is currently the Coordinator of Scientists for 9/11 Truth, and worked for several years with Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth. David became involved with the study of the building collapses of the World Trade Center when he realized he could use frame tracking software, which he used in his physics teaching, to measure the various velocities and accelerations associated with the 9/11 building collapses. He is best known for his measurements demonstrating the freefall of WTC 7, proving that NIST’s (National Institute for Science and Technology) claims were false. In its final report NIST changed its analysis of the motion of WTC 7, admitting freefall, but continued to deny its clear implications. David has authored and co-authored a number of scientific papers including "Destruction of the World Trade Center North Tower and Fundamental Physics." He has also created a large number of videos analyzing various aspects of the World Trade Center Collapses and presented them to the public on YouTube. This is the first of a four-part series on the new book released by the 9/11 Consensus Panel, 9/11 Unmasked: An International Review Panel Investigation. "9/11 Unmasked is the result of a six-year investigation by an international review panel, which has provided 51 points illustrating the problematic status of all the major claims in the official account of the 9/11 attacks, some of which are obviously false. Niels Harrit, PhD., was born in 1945. Since 1971, he has been associate professor at University of Copenhagen. He retired from the position in 2009 and is now emeritus. Thus, he has been a researcher and teacher in the Department of Chemistry for more than forty years and has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers in the best scientific journals. The latest publications are about time-resolved X-ray spectroscopy of ultra-fast photochemical processes and multidimensional fluorescence spectroscopy. Since 2007 he has been actively involved in the global movement for 911-truth, demanding an independent investigation of the terror attacks on September 11th, 2001. He was the leading author of a scientific paper, published in April, 2009, describing the findings of active thermitic material in the dust from the collapses of the three (!) skyscrapers of World Trade Center. Retired agent Bea DeFazio served in the FBI for 23 years, seven as a member of the Special Surveillance Group (SSG) following spies in New York, and 16 as a special agent. In this episode of FBI Retired Case File Review, Bea DeFazio is interviewed about working Innocent Images cases, going undercover online to catch child predators trolling in computer chat rooms to sexually exploit children and exchange images of abuse. During the last half of her agent career, she posed online as a child or teen and engaged in conversations with child predators in an attempt to gather the evidence to identify them and arrest them for exchanging child pornography—more appropriately labeled child sexual exploitation images—and/or soliciting in-person contact for sex. Bea says that this emotionally difficult work was by far the most rewarding she did for the Bureau. She also talked about her collateral duties as a member of the Evidence Response Team (ERT) and, immediately after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center Towers, working at the Fresh Kills land fill sifting through debris for evidence, personal items belonging to victims and human body parts.
