My guest of honor has a heart for people and a mind for business! He's the youngest of four and he was the first person in his family to attend college. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Then he went on to earn his Master of Science in Accounting and Information Management from The University of Texas at Dallas. He currently serves as a consultant in Transaction Services, but his true passion is helping others. He's a National Diversity Council Certified Diversity Professional and the founder of two nonprofits, Greater Is He and Reducing The Gap. But nothing brings him more joy than being married and having the opportunity to raise some great kings. My guest of honor might be small in stature, but her IMPACT is ENORMOUS! She's an advocate for the culture and she lives by the quote "Black Mental Health Matters, Our Lives Matter.” Mental health is her passion and she specifically wanted to become a therapist to work with people of color and continue working on the stigma of mental health in the black community. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from Kansas State University in 2013 and her Masters of Arts degree from Argosy University in 2017. She became a fully Licensed Professional Counselor in 2019 after passing the state licensing exam and completing 3000 hours of supervision. She previously worked for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. She also served as a Family Based Safety Worker for a couple of years then she was promoted to Tarrant County Group Treatment Coordinator. She currently works full time for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and she own a private practice called Time to Exhale Counseling LLC! My guest of honor is a PhD student studying Student Affairs Higher Education, and International Education Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her higher education experience covers college advising for high school students, housing and residential life, fraternity and sorority life, and recruitment. Her research interests cover how to best support Black women and girls in educational spaces as well as using museums, archives, and oral history as a method of storytelling and creating community for Black women. She received her bachelor's degree from TCU in 2013 and received her Master's in Higher Education from the University of Denver in 2019. She has worked as a research assistant on a project detailing undergraduate student involvement and as a research assistant for Seeking Grace, focusing onthe experiences of Black alumnae. Along with her work and research experience, she co-authored a chapter within Case Studies in Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in Higher Education: An Intersectional Perspective. The publication provides tools for professionals working or studying within a higher education setting. Additionally, she co-owns an editorial and educational consulting business, ForeverWriot, with two other phenomenal Black women, Kahlea and Ozy. She currently works as an Account Executive and she has often said that she would be lost without her faith! She believes that her faith has allowed her to get to where she is now. Her parents are from Eritrea (in east africa) but they came to the states to create a better opportunity for the family. She's out here doing big things and I'm sure that she's making her parents so proud. She is a beautiful soul and she's one of my favorite pretty girls rocking 20 pearls!
