Let's get real for a minute...if you're someone who constantly feels like you need to do more, be more, check more boxes—this one's for you. In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on something I don't think we talk about enough: how list-making and over-planning become a crutch…a way we try to cope with deeper stuff we don't want to face. I dive into my own journey with hustle culture, navigating chronic illness, and the deep-rooted need for control that kept me stuck in cycles I didn't even realize I was in. We'll talk about why creating a symptom timeline was a game changer, and how understanding your patterns can lead to real, sustainable healing. This isn't about shaming your coping mechanisms—this is about getting honest. It's about learning to sit with the hard feelings instead of avoiding them. Because growth doesn't come from checking boxes. It comes from getting in tune with yourself. Let's go deep, let's get messy, and let's actually heal.
In this episode of Operation Be, I introduce my first guest ever on the podcast-my partner in life, Tony Twist. Join us as we dive deep into the complexities of living with chronic illness and how it has affected our relationship over the years. Tony shares his perspective on supporting a loved one through health challenges, the evolution of our relationship, and the lessons we've learned together. Whether you or someone you know is dealing with similar struggles, this conversation offers valuable insights and practical advice for navigating these experiences together. Finding someone that is willing to navigate this challenging journey is HARD. Finding someone that has the strength to figure it out with you is HARDER. I am honored to share from this perspective with gratitude for Tony, and complete encouragement that there are absolutely people out there who will do the work with you. Tune in…
In this episode of Operation Be: The Podcast, I am going to explore the profound benefits of slowing down in a fast-paced world. By navigating my own personal experiences, I have built an arsenal of insights about the art of slowing down as a powerful tool for healing the nervous system. I am going to dive into the heightened stress levels of modern life and some practical tips to build a tolerance for stress…because let's be honest – we all are dealing with some pretty monumental levels of pressure in our everyday lives. Some of my favorite lessons include the importance of presence and the power of the pause. Have you ever tried using your five senses to really be "in" a moment? By slowing down, you can positively impact your life, work, and relationships. This one's special. I'm taking you behind the scenes of Operation Be—not just the podcast, but the process… the journey… the evolution. I've changed. The show has grown. And today, I'm diving into how and why. We're revisiting one of my favorite episodes, Why We Practice, recorded five years ago. (Yes, I dug up clips!) That message? Still relevant. Maybe more now than ever. Because here's the truth—consistency, self-awareness, and the practices we build daily are everything. Over the past two years, I've faced some serious health challenges that forced me to slow down and reevaluate. It wasn't easy. But it brought me back to the basics—mindfulness, reflection, true self-care. The kind that doesn't look pretty on social media but actually works. I hope this episode reminds you why you started. Why it matters. And that you're not alone. Growth is gritty. But with intention and consistent practice, you're capable of more than you realize. Let's keep showing up. Together. *Mentioned in this show - Episode 025: Why We Practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFsQPJ7T5xQ 00:00 Introduction to Operation Be 00:33 Reflecting on Past Episodes 01:52 Why We Practice: A Key Episode 02:46 Personal Growth and Challenges 10:41 Client Stories and Motivations 12:29 Building a Sustainable Foundation 17:35 The Importance of Self-Awareness 27:55 Concluding Thoughts and Reflections Link to Subscribe
Have you been feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or stuck waiting for something to magically change? Yeah... you're not alone. Now, let's talk about how waiting or blaming is actually just you giving your power away. In a world where it's easy to point the finger at everyone and everything else, it's hard to realize that tending your own garden - your mind, your habits, your energy - is the real move that changes everything. Taking radical responsibility for yourself isn't punishment… it's the unlock. I want to walk you through the uncomfortable but powerful conversation about how choosing ownership over excuses can literally transform your life. It's not always pretty. It's not always easy. But it's always worth it. ✨ Taking care of yourself, owning your choices, standing in your power…this is where freedom lives. I hope this hits you exactly where you need it today. Let's get into it.
Have you been searching for a diagnosis to explain parts of yourself or your life experience? Join the club! Now, let's talk about how identifying with that could actually be hurting you too. In a world filled with hot topic words and identifiers floating around, it's hard to both embrace this part of yourself and also not let it take total control of your life. Wearing it as a badge of honor usually doesn't do much besides help you in the headspace of “this is what's wrong with me”. I want to talk you through the difficult conversation about how you can actually life-hack your way out of this vortex, and actually use it as a way to navigate parts of yourself & excel in your life. Slowing down is NOT “lazy”, relaxation is NOT “selfish”, and shedding those labels can be a turning point in your growth.✨ I hope you enjoy the show! *Mentioned in this show - Episode 13: Stop Dismissing Parts of Self (The Integration You Need) https://youtu.be/T5OjdyiyeP0 Timer Cube for Productivity (on Amazon): https://a.co/d/hOvSfDn Please like, comment, subscribe, and share this episode and tag us with @jamie.thurber on Instagram or Jamie Thurber on Facebook. #OperationBe Link to Subscribe
Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. This show is all about how to STOP dismissing parts of self. Our confidence and belief systems are the ultimate drivers of how we move through our life and our ability to find real peace. There is a distinct difference in the language that we use with ourselves too. Understanding the difference between “BUT” vs. “AND” is a great place to start honoring self, while remaining true to what you're going through. Have you ever thought about how the word “but” limits our abilities, discounts our real experiences, and excludes parts of self? Real talk…I had to rewire my brain to change this habit, which was so worth it! Replacing it with “and” allowed me to learn to create intention, bridge multiple phases of my reality at once, and validate what I was feeling moment to moment. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I want to have a hard conversation about being stuck in messes. If the mess you are experiencing is related to depression or your chronic illness…you are NOT alone. The hardest thing to do when you are in this space is to ask for help. Often those around us are ready and willing…they just don't know what we need. It's okay to let life happen. It's okay to sit in it without feeling shame. It's okay to recognize that this is part of humanity, and that all messes aren't so easily cleaned up by you alone. Learning how to give yourself grace with your healing is not simple, but it can be done. It takes a lot of deep breaths, a lot of pauses, and a lot more self awareness to recognize when you need to give yourself a minute…or 100. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I want to share more about how moving slower can actually work in your favor… I recently spent time with one of my best friends just “being” together, quietly in my home, with zero activities planned. Can we say GAME CHANGER?! In a weekend filled with “nothing” on the schedule, we accomplished SO much…from meaningful life conversations and mindset work, to closing deals with clients and more. You see, I used to think that when my doctor told me that I “shouldn't need a break from my life”, it was a load of crap! I was taught like everyone else, that being a busy-bee was the only way to be successful…buy why? What I have since learned is that we should be working towards finding the freedom that comes from creating harmony between work and our personal life needs. Taking the leap of faith to trust that we actually get MORE from doing less…it's uncomfortable & scary at first, but it is so worth it! I hope you enjoy the show! *Mentioned in this show - Operation Be: The Podcast, Episode 8: Do vs. Be https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/operation-be-the-podcast/id1486644715?i=1000684998025 Please share this episode and tag us with @jamie.thurber on Instagram or Jamie Thurber on Facebook. #OperationBe Want to connect with me on social media? www.instagram.com/jamie.thurber www.facebook.com/jamiethurber.biz www.jamiethurber.com https://www.youtube.com/@JamieThurber If you're interested in getting the exclusive content I put out on the newsletter, sign up here: https://jamiethurber.com/newsletter Join my community and let's take this conversation even deeper! Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I HAVE to share with you the one speech that changed my life…forever. It was the incredible words of Gary Vaynerchuk that set me on a path of real discovery. He talked about the practice of giving ourselves awareness. I know, when I first heard that I was con-fused. How in the world is that possible? What I learned from him though, was more important than I imagined… Having conscious knowledge of ourselves, our internal motives, and how it fits into our well-being is SO crucial to really thriving. I got so invested in this process that I even went as far as using data tracking apps & accessories (like the Oura Ring) to really “get to know myself” on a deeper level. I learned a lot, including how to recognize when it is the right time to utilize those tools, and when to change course and put that on hold. That is where we find the ability to “gift” ourselves the deep awareness we need. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I want to talk about the #1 mindset shift that I believe we all have to make at some point in our lives. It's called choosing your hard… We can either choose to work hard getting healthy and living, or we can trudge through the hard days of being unhealthy for the rest of our lives. The truth is we've all been so programmed to be on autopilot when it comes to listening to our doctors, etc. that we have lost the ability to really be in touch with our minds and bodies enough to ask more questions and advocate for ourselves. What I've learned is that we get to choose how we spend our physical energy each day. We can live in a mindset of sacrificing for temporary goals, or we can invest in real change that lasts. It will always come down to mind over matter…always. We have to listen to our gut, literally and figuratively, and do what we know is best for our personal health in the long run. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I want to really get into the differences between DOING and BEING. This critical conversation is what led me to take a very long break from the show, and ultimately launch the new season. While I am a self-proclaimed “Productivity Queen”, I also recognize that it is in part what led to a pivotal shift in my life when my chronic health issues reached crisis level. Don't get me wrong…being hyperproductive and getting massive amounts of sh*t done are absolutely necessary during different chapters of life, but it's the way we are doing it that is so wrong. Leaning into urgency, others' expectations, pressure, anxiety, and a scarcity mindset is one surefire way to get yourself into a tailspin. Through my own healing journey and fundamental “break” from that detrimental routine, I have realized that it IS okay to bet on me. I have found that trusting myself leads me into abundance, motivating myself leads me to more productivity, and having the courage to slow down leads me to feeling all the grace & gratitude that I desperately needed. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I am going to talk about the importance of our basic human needs. I want to discuss the uncomfortable part of this topic, which is the fact that it IS okay to make your own needs more important than those of others, and that we should all stop pretending that we don't matter most. So often, especially for women, we are taught from a young age to take care of others. Think about it…most young girls will have their first job as a babysitter or caregiver, so from the start we are encouraged to diminish our own needs in an attempt to prioritize others. I have learned through some pretty tough personal experience, that the longer we ignore our simple basic human needs like sleep, nutrition, hydration, and human connection, the more we risk our health in the long run. It really comes down to the ability for us to recognize our body's cues, and understand when we really need to focus on “us” more, and less on others. Through my own journey of self awareness, I have come to truly believe that getting there is not hopeless…even if I have moments that feel that way. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this short and sweet mini-show, I wanted to take a few minutes to remind you of a couple important things about heading into the New Year. It's easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of holidays, and even in the mental battles surrounding resolutions and change. Well friends, I have a slightly different viewpoint on what that should look like. I have learned that this slower season can be incredibly useful for things like planning, daydreaming, and even some deep inward reflection. I know that it is a time for our bodies to slow down and “hibernate” a bit to get in touch with what really matters. Don't worry, the part where we need to take action is coming soon enough with Spring, but for now WHO we are & HOW we are matters more. I wish you a VERY Happy New Year & I can't wait to share 2025 with you! Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I am sharing my insights on what it means to really “do your best”. For years I thought it meant I had to keep my life in overdrive all the time, and while it felt productive, it was actually sinking my ship faster than I knew. Having awareness about your bandwidth is probably one of the most important skills that we need to thrive. It IS okay if you are just not feeling “it” today, and you need to reschedule, or postpone, or move things around a bit. I have come to really love my new found practice of adjusting on the fly. By doing this I can actually let things that should be easy, be easy. I have found that winning actually means not giving up, and that freedom to me means creating time for my life AND fulfilling my passions. It is okay to shift your perspectives along the way to define what that means for you, but the importance of building a strong foundation to lean on is truly key. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I am going straight to the hard conversation around the loneliness that comes with healing. I want to honor the commitments I've made to myself to be honest and vulnerable, even if it's difficult. I know you've heard the saying “are you filling your cup?” Well, I have thoughts about that. I have experienced years of attempting to fill my cup and recharge my battery in segments of time, only to find that it was actually impossible to do it this way. I had to completely reset the way that I balanced the intense energy exchange that was happening with others, as well as the online world. In order to fully honor my vision AND listen to my body, it took extreme measures…and I'm talking the “turning-off-all-notifications-permanently” type of extreme. What I have learned is that healing can be both lonely and isolating, which is hard. But what I have also learned is that if you commit to truly recharging your battery life when the light comes on…then you can maintain the energy you need to heal. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I share about the pressure cooker that is life. Trust me, there is no one better at a drill sergeant persona than yours truly, but to be honest it's exhausting. I learned at a young age to push through all of the red flags my body was waving at me, all in the name of perseverance…but hear me when I say that I completely trashed my health in the process. I chose to prepare for events and even interactions with others so far in advance, that the intense pressure would send my body into full-blown panic. I know now that I can honor the parts of me that are the productive, in-charge, CEO-minded person, and allow space to manage my emotions so that I don't lose control of my body again. I refuse to continue to add unnecessary pressure to my life, and I have decided not to compromise on that again. I look forward to sharing this show with you, and I hope it helps you to grasp onto the things that really matter in the day-to-day, and let go of the things that don't. Welcome back to a new episode of Operation Be: The Podcast. In this episode, I wanted to bring you along for the story of my relationship with Tony, and how it became a pivotal piece of my healing journey to a grounded and self-centered lifestyle. Over the last 14 years, I have experienced the highs and lows with Tony. Like many of you, we have faced huge decisions about children, marriage, and commitment. I always knew that I wanted to be a “bride”, but I never guessed that I would have to actually choose to postpone that moment, even when I was sure of my choice in a partner. I had to choose to sit in the uncomfortable feelings of where my health was, figure out how to redefine my thoughts of “it's not fair”, and finally commit to new processes and a lifestyle that would allow me to be healthy enough to truly enjoy the process of planning my dream day. I look forward to sharing this story with you, and want you to know that it's ok to have both the beauty and the hard…all together. Welcome back to a new season of my show, Operation Be: The Podcast. This season will focus on living a grounded lifestyle, rooted in being fully present in every phase of your life while navigating challenges successfully. In this opening episode, I want to share my comeback story with you. I had to completely re-establish my life after facing life-altering health issues. It was not on my bingo card to slow down and remove the majority of the structure from both my personal and professional life, but here we are…and I am ready to strip it down to the bare layers, so that my experience can shed some light on some really important life lessons. Just like many of you, I faced incredible imposter syndrome challenges over the years, and the last 18 months have shown me how to find my confidence again. I have learned how to deal with intense struggles by sitting with them in order to truly heal from them. I look forward to sharing this and so much more with you as we begin this new journey together. “There's a time in your life where pressure can serve as a motivator…until it stops being a force for good and starts becoming a source of evil.” By constantly putting pressure on ourselves we create this space where we lose all our power. Things that work for us may not work for us in every season of our lives and it's important for us to recognize and be willing to shift our approach to honor these changes. We need to be realistic. We need to recognize our patterns. We need to be more accepting and loving of ourselves. We need to do these things so that we can work with that energy and be more successful, more profitable, more productive –all the things we work so hard for. To be healthy. To be happy. To enjoy life. There are healthy ways to apply pressure on yourself…but remember, it's not to create a feeling of overwhelm. I don't do overwhelm. The pressure needs to make you feel good, maybe pushes you a little out of your comfort zone, maybe it keeps you moving towards a goal, little by little, but the pressure shouldn't be constant. It shouldn't become a method of self-sabotage. Good pressure, good motivators, keep you focused and growing; never stuck or frozen. Slowly start to unload your “things” – recognize the thoughts and patterns behind your overwhelm. Remind yourself, “I don't do overwhelm.” Now, begin releasing all that pressure you placed on yourself that was keeping you stuck and shift it into a new perspective. New energy. And when you start to feel that sense of overwhelm happening, because it will, you will be tested and that's how the universe works, ask yourself, “What do I feel coming and why? What can I change? How can I shift out of this quickly?” And that's the beauty of this work. Seeking answers to life's questions like where to go, why, who can help me, how do I get there, am I safe, do I need more, am I enough, what's my purpose seem to be a pretty predominate part of why we do what we do or maybe why we don't… even if we don't realize how actively the question asking is happening. What if the pressure you're feeling from the questions of life leads you to answer them based on someone or something else beside what YOU want or think or need? In this episode, I'll give you a key to start shifting the place you're seeking these answers more to a place that YOU own and see how that can start letting you guide yourself. “I'm not required to give them an explanation”. Someone recently reminded me of the first time I made this declaration to the world and how it impacted her. It inspired me to record this episode because I think all of the humans need to hear this (especially my mid-west gang). I welcome you to give this a listen and then stop doing it. Let go of the need to explain, or the obligation to. Let go of the justification so people “understand” or approve. In this day and age, it’s not abnormal for someone to very openly request another to change around their own lives in order to meet one's specific needs… we do this without even considering the other person's lives, time, or needs. Then what happens? The person apologizes for not having the availability OR they change they’re own stuff to make room for someone else's. It’s so ass-backwards and I just had to call it out. Hiring a coach, finding a mentor or teacher... It should be something really exciting but it seems that it comes a source of massive stress for a lot of people. And it makes sense given the number of cases you hear about where someone has had a bad experience with a not so professional coach. In this episode I go through some things you can use to determine who is the right person for you. What questions to ask, what things to pay attention to, and some tell signs you can look for that can be red flags. I'm making this episode because I’ve been there. I’m also making it because it makes my stomach turn every time I hear about someone getting scammed by an out of integrity coach/mentor/teacher. Over all-- these tips can be used in A LOT of relationships you choose to enter into so it’s a great listen for all!
