Our first ever podcast movie review and it's none other than the 5-part Twilight Series that we binged over 3 days…and blanked out a little around Eclipse. Alas, a decade or so late to the game, we sat down to watch some of the most iconic movies of our generation, and broke down exactly the wins, the hilarity, and the plot holes that frustrated us. I'll be honest - I have no idea how this podcast will play out for listeners because we were CHAOTIC.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
To kick things off, Alyssa and Chandler discuss the toxic relationships in the Twilight series, why Charlie is the best Sad Dad, and the question that has been haunting a generation; Team Edward or Team Jacob? (NOTE: Apologies for the squeaky chair. It has been banished for all future episodes)
Sam is a master copywriter and business builder. If there was ever somebody who knows how to turn online writing into cash, Sam is it. In this episode, Sam shows how you can sell at scale and where to find the opportunities in the business of writing. We'll teach you how to think through headlines, find content for your own writing, and torch the internet with your ideas. Sam started in the early days of email newsletters and he was a master of writing viral content. He tells the story about plagiarizing his way onto Amazon's bestseller list by looking at the intersection of romantic comedies, werewolves, and the Twilight Series. He combined many stories, self published his own book, sued by a publisher for plagiarizing, and ended up exploding on the self-publishing Reddit forum — all of which led to 1000s of new subscribers for his newsletter. Since then, his success continues to multiply. First, by selling “The Hustle” for eight-figures to HubSpot. Then, by growing “My First Million” into one of the top ten business podcasts in the world. And now, he recently launched a company called Hampton. One thing that stands out with Sam is how good he is at colloquial copywriting. His writing sells because it sounds like how people actually talk. First he builds trust with people. Then they open up their wallets. He gets people to open up their wallets by building trust with them very fast through writing. In this episode, he shows exactly how to do that. About three things we are absolutely positive. First, we're talking about the first of the girl-meets-vampire saga, Twilight. After the Potter series proved to be successful, there was the Twilight Series. Next came The Hunger Games. And then came Divergent! Each series was marketed as "the NEXT Harry Potter." But, they weren't really as successful as Harry Potter at all! On this special episode of MuggleCast, the hosts dive deep into what makes the tale of a boy wizard so enduring, and how the other series just didn't measure up in terms of financial success OR staying-power. We also compare HP to Star Wars and discuss what the two series have in common. It's another great episode this week, be sure to listen at your leisure! MuggleCast is now on TikTok with the username @MuggleCast! Be sure to follow us there and enjoy all the fun content we've got coming. This week's Main Discussion: Why the so-called "Next Harry Potter" hasn't happened yet. Andrew, Eric, Laura and Micah discuss what made Harry Potter so special. From the story beats to the complexity of the mystery, we dive deep into what we love and what inevitably translated to the publishers' bottom line. Strong themes in the HP series? We think we spot a few that hit home! And being rewarded for catching references and foreshadowing really felt like a present to us as readers. HP fans were feverish for new Harry! That's just something that cannot be said about some other series. The hosts talk Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Andrew and Laura even had a Twilight podcast back in the day! Were The Hunger Games and the Divergent series simply too dystopian for readers to love? Another example of a franchise that may live forever is Star Wars. What do that and HP have in common from a storytelling perspective? Did Star Wars' opening up its canon to multiple creators allow it to flourish, and what lessons can Warner Bros. learn there regarding HP? The hosts compare the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and wonder aloud if "the next Harry Potter" will even be a book at all. Finally, are older Millennials going to be the ones to spot the next HP, or will the younger generation determine what the next candidate is? Quizzitch: In Divergent, the hero Tris is eligible to join 3 factions. Which faction does she join, and for bonus points, what are the 3 she has to choose from? Submit your answer! In this episode of Doing Diversity in Writing, we—Bethany and Mariëlle—conclude our conversation about marking the unmarked by discussing description. In this third episode on the topic, we discuss: marking and unmarking in terms of description the Twilight series and the problematic use of dark and light why we, as writers, have to consistently ask ourselves what the outcome is of the descriptive choices we make Some quotes from this week's episode: “Describing things as good or bad, welcoming or frightening, is done differently depending on history, religion, region, and the history that the people involved have.” “The associations we create as authors need to be mindful, and we need to be watching for what kind of implications those descriptions can have.” “As writers, when we're looking at describing places, we need to consider who we're placing in that place and how we want our readers to think about them. If we're using terms like “high-crime” and “distressed”, that paints a certain picture of anyone we place in that area.” And here are the (re)sources we mentioned on the show: “‘Twilight': How much money did all 5 movies make?” by Abeni Tinubu: https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/twilight-how-much-money-did-all-5-movies-make.html “Civilized Vampires Versus Save Werewolves: Race and Ethnicity in the Twilight Series,” by Natalie Wilson: https://www.academia.edu/28684886/Civilized_Vampires_Versus_Savage_Werewolves_Race_and_Ethnicity_in_the_Twilight_Series “Recognizing that words have the power to harm, we commit to using more just language to describe places,” by Jennifer S. Seek The LordPsalm 34:4-7 “I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Look to him, and be radiant; so your faces shall never be ashamed. This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord, and was saved from every trouble. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.” (NRSV)Did you catch those first four words? I sought the Lord. Sought is an action word. It does not say that I did nothing and the Lord answered my prayers. It says I sought the Lord and he answered my prayers. We have to take the step to seek the Lord and he will answer the prayers that we are asking for. What can you do to seek the Lord? You can spend time with Him. You can talk to Him and pray to Him. You can read His Word. There are lots of ways you can seek the Lord. Which one will you choose? The next line is something that I bet we are all praying for. He delivered me from all my fears. How great would it be to be delivered from all your fears. What are your fears? Why do you have those fears? Have you sought the Lord when it comes to delivery from those fears? The Lord is willing to help us when we ask for it. Have you asked for His help? Why not? What have you got to lose? Why is it that we would rather sit with our fear than turn to the Lord and ask Him for help with it? Is it that we feel we don't need help? We can handle it on our own? Is it that we think it is too small of a problem for the Lord our God to handle? Is it that we feel embarrassed that we fear anything at all? Do we think if we don't ask the Lord for help then He won't know we are afraid? Whatever the reason is, the Lord is just waiting for us to invite Him into our fears and ask for His help. He can deliver us from our fears if we turn to Him and invite Him to take care of them for us. If we are going to fight to keep our fears, by not talking about them and not getting help for them, then we will get to keep them. Is this what we want? Do we want to keep our fears, or do we want to release them and get on living our best life? The next part of the verse says, “Those who look to him are radiant.” Have you ever seen someone that looked radiant. I don't mean literally shining like diamonds, like Edward in the Twilight Series. I mean someone that just glowed. A lot of people say that when someone is pregnant the are glowing. They also say this about the newlyweds or people that just fell in love. What is this glow? It is their joy shining through. They are so happy they can't contain it all and it is shines through. You will also notice this with people who are filled with the Holy Spirit. Their pure joy can not be contained. “Look to him, and be radiant; so your faces shall never be ashamed.” The second part of this is saying that if you keep your eyes on the Lord you won't do anything that will cause you shame. If you turn away from the Lord, you may turn to other things. Things that may cause you to do things that are shameful. Can you think of a time when you did something that you were not proud of? When you did it, were your eyes fixed on the Lord or on something else? We can be easily led astray when we take our eye of Jesus. He can be our protection and our shelter if we let Him. If we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus we will walk in His ways and our face will never be covered in shame. Then the verse goes back to the idea of us seeking him. It says, “This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord, and was saved from every trouble.” First the soul called out, and then the Lord heard Him and saved him out of all his troubles. We must take that first step. Once we do, God can take over and it will be a glorious day when we let Him do that. We like to think we can fix things on our own. So, God lets us. I wonder if He rolls his eyes or shakes His head as He watches us make the same mistakes over and over again? I wonder what He thinks every time we go back to trying to do it all ourselves. When we will learn? Why can't we just turn to Him the moment we encounter trouble? Why is it so hard? The last part of this verse says, “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.” What I like most about this last part is that it talks about the angel of the Lord encamping around those who fear him. I don't know about you, but having an angel encamp around me sound pretty great. Did you know that you have a guardian angel? We all do. Our angel is there to protect us and guide us. We can talk to our angel and we can ask our angel for help or for guidance. Father Padre Pio had a very close relationship with his guardian angel. He used to tell his spirtual children, if you are in trouble and you can not get to me, send your guardian angel to me. He would tell them this for confession as well. I watched a video about Father Padre Pio and his ability to hear other people's guardian angels when they were sent to him. It was remarkable. I am going to put a link for it in the show notes as I was blown away listening to it. It is not a long video. I recommend checking it out. (Click Here for Video)We have so much to learn from the Saints. They are truly remarkable people. Listening to Father Padre Pio talk about his guardian angel it makes me realize that I am neglecting mine. If they are there to protect and guide me, why and I not calling upon my angel more? It is not as if I don't need the guidance. I have started to call upon my guardian angel more. I ask my angel to go before me into any tough situation and soften the hearts of those I am meeting with. I ask that my angel talk to their angel and ask that their ears and hearts be opened to listen. I have passed this suggestion on to others, I think this was another thing that Padre Pio suggested, but I can't be sure it was him. I have friends that have reported meetings that they expected to go badly, or conversations that they dreaded having, actually went well when they asked their angel to prepare the way. What do you think? Are you going to start calling on your angel? Or maybe you are still skeptical. That's fair, I only started learning about the angels and their power in the last couple of years. May I suggest though, if you are not sure about angels, you do some research? If you do your research and don't find any compelling evidence that guardian angels exist, then you haven't lost anything but some time. However, if you do research and you see how powerful your angel is and that you could have that angel using that power to protect and guide you, wouldn't you want to know that? I guarantee if you start to learn more about the angels you won't be sorry. They are truly amazing!Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, we are seeking you, please help us. Lord please deliver us from our fears and our troubles. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on you so that we do not do anything that could cause us shame. Lord thank you for giving us each a guardian angel to protect us and guide us. Teach us how to rely on that angel Lord. We are so very thankful that you are so amazing. We love you Lord and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen.Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. “When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free.” That is a quote by Katherine Ponder. I look forward to spending time with you on Monday. Have a blessed weekend!

It is our final movie review in the Twilight Series!!! Marie & Coni have pushed through hours of recording back to back episodes to get to this point. Was it the smartest choice in the world? Of course not. But they did it and CRUSHED IT. Coni talks about all the hot vampires (naturally) as well as "the thing" and Marie just wants to be a vampire Pikachu. At the end of the episode, Marie & Coni figure out that Midnight Sun (book solely from Edward's perspective) came out in 2020! So if you haven't read that yet, we highly recommend you do so.

N.L. Holmes: A New Adventure in the Empire at Twilight series - The Sun at Twilight. Episode 385 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. N.L. Holmes is a prolific novelist embarking on another significant career phase. Prior to taking up the power of writing and using this pen name, she was an accomplished archaeologist and teacher for 25 years. Early in her career she served as a nun for two decades. In between she was an artist and antiques dealer. Yes, she has lived an interesting life and the sum of her experiences informs and inspires her writings today. Holmes, who earned her doctorate in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology Studies from Bryn Mawr College despite an offer to attend Princeton, has excavated in Greece and Israel, and taught ancient history and humanities at Stockton University in N.J. and University of South Florida for many years. She also did archaeological artwork for excavations from Lebanon. With seven published novels, Holmes is the creator of The Lord Hani Mysteries. The inspiration for her Bronze Age novels came with an assignment she gave to her students one day: Here are the only documents we have telling us about royal divorce in Ugarit in the 13th century. How much can we say about what happened? She notes: “It quickly became apparent that almost anything we might come up with was as much fiction as historiography!” She also penned The Empire At Twilight series, historical fiction set in the 13th century C.B. during the Hittite Empire. Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, she attended The University of Texas in the honors program but dropped out midway to enter into the antiques business. Two years later, she entered the Discalced Carmelite convent in Texas. She left the convent 20 years later and returned to school to get her B.A. in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology. Holmes resides with her husband, three cats, and a dog. They split their time between Tampa, Florida and northern France, where she gardens, weaves, and plays the violin. They have an adult son. Today we are focused on her latest addition to her Empire at Twilight series...The Sun at Twilight. Thanks for listening! Enjoy. But wait... Could you do me a favor? "If it's not scary, you kind of have to step back and go, 'You're probably making this decision because it's right on paper.' But unless you get that irking fear it's not right." Though Kristen Stewart gained widespread recognition for her role in the Twilight Series, she has since actively showcased her newfound voice with her freshly emerging profile. As most of us know, the character “Bella” that she portrayed in the series was the soft-spoken, submissive, girl with “no special attributes”. The way the character was written (not to her demerit) was relatively one-dimensional. She had some issues with her parents and fitting in at her new school but ultimately she was painted to be the normal girl that happened to magnetize men--vampire, wolf, and human alike. Well, there goes our credibility. But what kind of a book podcast would be if we didn't talk about Twilight? This episode covers WHY,at thirteen we were FULLY SMITTEN with team Jacob. We also discuss why we suddenly were ashamed to admit that we went to EVERY single midnight premiere. We talk about the love triangle, the midnight premieres, the absolutely ridiculous notions we had about being loved by the supernatural, and basically how ready we are to read midnight sun WITH YOU. If you're looking for something to listen to that is PURELY comfort, just let us whine about our teenage years for a hot minute. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/celine0310/support

Fitz is wearing a White T-Shirt and Drew brought us all some BBQ sauce that his friend makes, but no, Claire is not wearing a miniskirt. It's Time for a Labor Day Weekend Bull-Yah! In the What Are You Kidding Me stories, a study finds it's impossible not to move when you hear music (even if you're Drew), doctors warn of a spike in pubic lice brought on by pandemic grow-outs, a WWII veteran make his last request to have his casket painted like a big pack of Juicy Fruit Gum and a woman takes in a homeless teenage boy who turns out to really be 32-year-old man. On Stream It or Skip It, Drew recommends the entire Back to the Future Series on Netflix, the entire Twilight Series on Hulu, The Boys Season 2 on Amazon Prime, and the Live Action Mulan on Disney+ for an extra $30.In the Fitz Files, Ken Jennings is joining the staff of Jeopardy although Alex Trebek is back for the new season, The Batman movie is on hold after star Robert Pattinson gets Covid, and a college professor says Snoop Dogg for a Cameo to tell his students to read their syllabus. Ladies, it's Labor Day Weekend so we want to hear what it's like when you go into Labor! Drew was so tired he slept on a pile of carpet in his new empty home. After the 8am Mystery Sound player misses it, Fitz goes off the rails and starts giving out clues and upping the Jackpot on his own until Sailor from Puyallup gets it right and wins $2500! Fitz checks his Social Media and responds to whether he will get in trouble for the Mystery Sound and where are some great places to go Glamping. The Weekend Party Preview has some cool stuff like the Museum of Flight reopening, Washington Fair Food available for the weekend, the Bremerton Blackberry Festival Drive-Thru and Fitz is excited the SIFF is showing the Newport Jazz Festival Film online.

Madison shared some tips on time management strategies that she has used in order to stay on top of time and the amazing use of personal planners. At the end of the episode they reviewed the new Stephanie Meyer book, Midnight Sun, and shared their thoughts on the Twilight series 10 years later. FOLLOW US Insta// @theladylikechatter
This week our ~esteemed~ guest Maggie Hall, who is a lifelong fan of the Twilight Series and a moderator for the Twilight subreddit, delves into how the male and female gaze are illustrated by the adaptation of the books into their subsequent films. We discuss each film's accuracy to their respective books, the politics behind the scenes of the film franchise, and imagine how each film might have been executed if a female director was at the helm. This is part one of a two-part series - next week we will discuss the public reception of the Twilight film franchise and the discrediting of teenage girl fandom, despite the immense power they wield.

In this mini episode I decided to discuss death. It's a hard subject but I personally use it to help fuel my motivation (yes, sometimes it doesn't work). My family lost a family member, and it is really tough, but it changed the way I look at life (in a positive way). I also refer to the amazing book I just finished reading; "The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck" by Mark Manson, as he discusses death briefly at the end of the book. Much love to you all! It is a dimension as vast as a field of barley, and as timeless as Pabst Blue Ribbon. You know, sometimes the best things come along when you least expect them….which is funny, because maybe we should expect them. Truthfully, behind every lucky break is a lot of hours spent on the track and roads, coupled with an unbreakable persistance to cut through, and rise above past performances. That’s the story of one of our guests today, Katelyn Ayers. The Canadian 1500m bronze medalist talks with us about jumping into hot races last minute, and running away with a PB and a confidence boost, as well, we’ll chat with Paula Schnurr about what’s cooking with the Hamilton Twilight Series this year, and we’ll close out the show with a big announcement of our own.

This is Ryan with another round of Flipswitch’s Mood Disorders In the Media. On Mood Disorders in the Media, we take a closer look at one instance of how the media is currently handling mood disorders. News, movies, tv, radio, the internets......if it’s somehow connected to the media, it’s fair game. Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. A show about depression and bipolar disorder and growing up..........we could only avoid it so long. Love it or hate it, here it is. We’re finally going to deal with it. Yes. Yes. Yes, that’s right. You know what I’m talking about. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, .....today we talk about.......The Twilight Series. Okay, okay! Girls, calm down, please! And if you guys over there can stop looking annoyed for just one moment, we can get through this promptly! Look, for better or worse, the Twilight series of books and movies have been hugely successful, raking gobs and gobs of money, with more sequels planned for the future. Maybe it’s the Romeo-and-Julietness of it all or the fact that we all just simply like stories about werewolves and vampires; whatever it is, fans just can’t seem to get enough. In the latest movie installment of the series, New Moon, the main character of the whole shebang, Bella, goes through a trying break up with a boyfriend, Edward, and is flung into the depths of heartbreak and sadness, eventually leading her to do some dangerous things in order to get him back. Vampires and werewolves aside, it’s an interesting take on an extremely common part of life, a part of life that many people are first introduced to in high school and sometimes, even junior high. Girl meets boy, girl falls for boy, girl and boy share romance, boy changes suddenly on girl, boy leaves girl, girl becomes distraught, spending hours, days, weeks, months, etc pining for her lost love. Sure, that’s the basic thing going on in New Moon, but I was also describing three of my friend’s from high school’s lives as well. It’s just that common. Sure, in my case, it was more like: boy meets girl, girl tells boy to leave her alone, boy comes up to girl two weeks later to profess his love for girl, girl explains that she doesn’t remember boy at all, girl introduces boy to girl’s football player boyfriend, boy runs away before he gets beat up....but.....okay let’s move on. A lot has been written about the tumultuous relationship between Bella and Edward in the media, with more than a few news segments on the dark (say quote) “depression” that Bella experiences after Edward leads. ABC news, for example, called Bella’s condition a “classic case of clinical depression.” The media has sought out shrinks and experts of all stripes to talk about Bella’s depression. But this brings up a perfect opportunity to talk about something media hasn’t adequately addressed when talking about Bella’s feelings: namely, duration of mood. Remember this mantra: sadness and depression are NOT the same thing. Oh, they’re related alright, but they are NOT the same thing. For someone to have clinical depression, they have to experience a sad (say quote) “depressed” mood for most of the day for at least two weeks. But it’s important to remember that depression as a disorder isn’t usually given unless that sadness lasts at least a couple of months. Why is that? Well, let’s go back and remember why mood disorders are disorders at all: They are incongruent with reality. That means they don’t match what’s going on in the world. If your dog dies and suddenly your all happy the next day, your mood isn’t congruent to the situation. that’s a problem. But in the Twilight Saga, Bella has lost the love of her life. And well.... she’s not happy about it. In fact, she’s not happy about it for quite a while. Here’s one question for everyone: Should Bella be happy that she’s lost the love of her life? Should she have gotten over it in a couple of days and been cheery? A week? 2 weeks? How long? The point I'm making here is that sometimes feeling sad is not only okay, it’s necessary. If Bella had been like, “I don’t care. Who needs boyfriends and love anyhow?” that would seem a lot more problematic than the fact that she’s sad. Being sad when sad things happen is okay. That’s not necessarily depression. Now if everything is by and large always sad, then you may have a deeper problem. Psychologists have other options for what Bella may have been going through. One of the most common diagnosis given by psychologists to people in Bella’s situation is called Adjustment Disorder. It’s named Adjustment Disorder because the person experiencing distress is having problems adjusting to life after some new change, say like, oh I don’t know, possibly.....getting used to living without the love of your life. Much more, this process resembles grief, very much in the same way we might lose someone in a car accident or to a dreaded disease. The person is gone and we have to learn to move on without them, which is not always easy. And grief can take a long time. And we can grieve for all sorts for losses, be they jobs, loved ones, or even possessions. But that doesn’t mean, in and of itself, that the depression is all there is. Remember, if a loved one dies, it’s absolutely normal to experience a little grief over it; that mixture of sorrow, sadness and longing for the good times to be back. The idea of the length of sadness of Bella is important to address, because if the media doesn’t address that, then everyone that’s ever been dumped at one time or another, suddenly qualifies for having a depressive disorder. So, at the end of our journey, let’s give the media credit for trying to explore depression in a meaningful way, but we’ll have to deduct points for failing to recognize that being upset over loss is okay sometimes and that life does move on. The media stories tended to look at Bella’s destructive behavior after Edward left and how she keeps letting her emotional state be thrown off by this tumultuous relationship, something that’s REALLY common in romance at virtually any age. Kudos to the media for raising our awareness on that. So, a mixed bag this week in Mood Disorders In the Media. Phew, we got through it. We got through Twilight. I feel like I’ve been released from prison. (gasping with joy) I’ll see you next time for more Mood Disorders In the Media.
"I'm a big advocate of having a vision and seeing it through. If that leads to work, then so be it." I’m stoked to bring you today’s guest, Joey L. He’s what I like to call a prodigy in the photography world. He’s in his young 20’s now, but he shot the Twilight movie posters when he was 17 years old. He began his photography career and making videos a year or two before that. He’s one of those kids that makes me feel like I didn’t start my career soon enough. More than that, he’s amazingly talented, and today we get to dive deeper into talking with Joey about how important the development of your personal work is to developing your visual brand and attracting commercial clients. Joey’s personal work is amazing and inspiring to me because he treks out to the beyond reaches of the world to photograph beautiful portraits of tribal people. A lot of his trips, he treks 3-4 days each way just to get out to the tribes he photographs. He then spends 3-4 weeks at a time with them (which we'll hear more about). Not only has Joey photographed these people, but he's also created a documentary showcasing the making of the prints, hanging a show in new york city, then taking the show back to the people of the tribe and presenting it to them. Joey is a huge inspiration. So lets get into it, hear about Joey’s adventures, and how his fine art has fueled not only his passion, but the commercially sustainable side of his business. "The best way to grow is to hang out with people that you admire." Some things we learn in this podcast: About working as a professional creative What it was like working on the Twilight Series poster and how an artists work can be turned into something completely different when working on big projects Humble stories of how world class photographers get started The importance of personal work The first big personal trip to India that inspired Joey L How travel shapes artistic skills and life perspective How to get started as a freelance photographer The power of photography to get the artist comfortable with discomfort How to survive financially as a freelancer The number one thing in business from Joey L How to excel with like-ability on big, stressful photography sets The source of inspiration for tutorials Social media importance for top photographers Joey L's favorite project to date Connect with Joey: Instagram | Twitter | Website | LearnFromJoeyL
