How much strength training do you really need in a fat loss phase? What is the minimum? Is it 45 minutes?Maybe 30 minutes? When a person is in a fat-loss phase, the main goal of exercise is to prevent muscle loss, to improve strength, and keep the joints healthy. But if you're even an intermediate lifter, your body won't build much muscle in this phase. Why should we do a bunch of volumes when it is harder to recover? So I wanted to challenge myself to do an experiment of 30 minutes or less with my strength training 4 days a week. I have some good results, some bad results, and ugly results. In this episode, I review all the major mistakes I made plus showing you how you could do an efficient fat loss training program if you wanted to. In this episode I discussThe 30-minute or less experiment set upThe good, bad, and ugly resultsThe 4-month evolutionValue of how to track working setsGood/bad Use of Rest-pause techniqueWhen a variety of exercises is a bad thingWhy DOMs can be overratedWhy isolation exercises can be a waste of timeHow to properly address injuriesValue of getting a coachMy most recent ambitionIf you know anyone who has a busy schedule but still has training goals, please share this episode with them! And if you find this episode helpful, please leave a 5-star review! Find more from Rhyland On Instagram/TikTok/YouTube: @rqtrainingnutrition Twitter: @QuallyRhyland www.RQtrainingnutrition.com

Do you think powerlifting has to be hard?Well, both Kurtis and I think it doesn't have to be!Kurtis Tallaire is a powerlifting coach of 6 years and was a former national-level competitive powerlifting for over 7 years himself. He not only has great accomplishments himself in the sport, but he has coached many athletes who crush competitions at a national level as well. I met Kurtis through my friend Quinn, who was training for his first powerlifting meet. I remember hearing Quinn “These programs are honestly pretty easy.” whenever he was telling me about Kurtis's programming. And this is why I knew I was so interested in chatting with him about it. I know he was getting his athletes to do the right intensities with slow modest gains, which is my favourite style of lifting. This chat is so much fun as we cover so many great concepts that can help anyone, even if you just want to be stronger a barbell lifts. In this episode we discuss - How he got into powerlifting- Who were his influences in lifting- How he plans his programs for his athletes- What mistakes are people making in the Bench, Deadlift, and Squat?- Really unique tip on improving grip strength- How he uses deloadsThis was truly a great learning experience for me to hear him speak about the major mistakes people make in the big 3, in so much great detail. Did you know a lot has changed in the science research of muscle building? We had a great discussion about it in this episode and you get to hear two great perspectives. Rich has been more of a casual weight lifter for years, but has always seen himself as a ‘hard gainer.' This insight is very helpful for you to hear as he has had more challenges with building muscle when compared to me. So I make sure to ask him questions on what specifically he has found made the biggest impact for him to gain weight when he wanted to. AJ has been a trainer for over 20 years and has great experience with both putting on his own size and helping others put on muscle when they want to. He has great insight from both the theoretical perspective but also what he's seen work in the gym effectively. On top of this, I add my own experience of a recent experiment that helped me add weight very quickly. In this episode we discuss- What is the most important thing for Rich when building muscle?- What is the flaw with worrying about perfect form?- Rhyland's experiment with the Rest-pause technique- Do you need to program deloads?- AJ's newest lesson on muscle buildingThis is another fun conversation as we are in even deeper to the whiskey at this point but we still get some great info for you to learn from. Find more from AJOn Instagram @AJzeglenFind more from RichOn Instagram @perimeter.therapy Find more from Rhyland On Instagram/TikTok/YouTube: @rqtrainingnutrition Twitter: @QuallyRhyland www.RQtrainingnutrition.com

Within that time we also formed a great friendship with not only our shared passion for fitness but also our appreciation for good whisky, and deep thinking. I knew going into the preparation for this bodybuilding show, AJ would have great knowledge to offer in bodybuilding as he had done 5 competitions himself. However, I also knew he would make this a fun experience as we could bounce ideas off each other and devise a great plan together, which is exactly what happened with a great result. In this episode we had an opportunity to review the strategies we took during my prep and if they were the right choice or not. We also just had a really fun conversation. We didn't always stay on topic but that was the really fun part of it, and you can only expect when you drink whisky without standing up for over 2 hours. The topics we discussedHow we started my prepLessons and changes we made during the first 2 phasesUse of PEDs in bodybuildingConventional vs. Sumo Dead LiftingOur favourite Rocky movies and why How AJ felt I looked compared to my competitors Quick review on Reverse DietingWe had an awesome time in this episode and had to cut it short (even though it's over 2:45 minutes long), but we will be doing another one to discuss the reverse diet and build phases!I am certain you will enjoy this episode, as it was legitimately one of my favourites to date. Remember like, subscribe, leave a 5-star review, and please share with someone you think would enjoy this podcast!Find more from AJOn Instagram: @AJzeglenFind more from Rhyland On Instagram/TikTok/YouTube: @rqtrainingnutrition Twitter: @QuallyRhyland www.RQtrainingnutrition.com
