Friday is the Tenth of Tevet , the day we fast to commemorate when Yerushalayim was surroundedby the enemy prior to the destruction of the Bet Hamikdash. As we know, it is ararity to fast on a Friday; no other fast comes out on a Friday. The reason for this is that whenHashem told Yehezkel the prophet about the fast of Asarah B'Tevet, He used the words בעצם היום הזה - on this very day .Those that say the special Selichot/prayers of Asarah B'Tevet will notice that those words, " Onthis very day ," are repeated quite often. Based on that, the Bet Yosef saysthat we can't change the date of this fast. So much so, says the Bet Yosef,that if Asarah B'Tevet ever fell out on Shabbat, we would fast on Shabbat. Just as, on Yom Kippur , it says " on this very day, "and we don't push off the fast, so too, with AsarahB'Tevet (the calendar has been worked out that that itdoesn't fall out on Shabbat) . What it is about AsarahB'Tevet that allows us to fast on a Friday,even going into Shabbat, and technically on Shabbat itself? The Hatam Sofer explains, and in doing so gives great significance and importanceto this fast of Asarah B'Tevet. He says that there is only one other time that we must fast onShabbat- on what is called a TaanitHalom- a fast for a bad dream .There is a list of specific bad dreams, brought down in Shulchan Aruch, that ifsomeone had, they would have to fast on that day, even if it came out onShabbat (I won't list them because if you think about them, you might dreamabout them). How can it be that you fast for a bad dream on Shabbat, but you don't fast for Tisha b'Av on Shabbat? When Tisha B'Av falls out onShabbat, as it does quite often, we don't fast until Sunday. What is itabout a bad dream that is more powerful than TishaB'Av ? The Hatam Sofer says that there is a fundamental difference between Tisha B'Av and a " bad dream " fast. On TishaB'Av, we fast for something that happened.In every generation that the Bet HaMikdash is not rebuilt, it is as if it was destroyed. So every year, Tisha B'Av is the timethat, so say, the Bet HaMikdash, which should have been rebuilt, is being destroyed. So, we fast about something that happened. When you fast about something that happened , that doesn't override Shabbat. However, whena person has a bad dream, it's an indication from Above that there is an impending doom. Therefore, by fasting and doingTeshuva, one can void the bad decree. So a fast of a bad dream overridesShabbat because it's a preventive fast. It's not fasting to commemoratesomething that happened, it's fasting in order to prevent a tragedy fromoccurring in the future. This is a basic difference. But the Hatam Sofer adds a major hiddush. He says that every single year, on Asarah B'Tevet, it's decided whether or not we will have the Bet HaMikdash rebuilt this year. That's heavy statement. In other words, the Bet Din in Heavenconvenes on Asarah B'Tevet, to decide whether or not the Bet HaMikdash will be built thisyear. It's just like the first Asarah B'Tevet , where nothing had happened yet; it was the surrounding of the city, it wasan indication of impending doom. That is what is being decided on Asarah b'Tevet. So we fast on Asarah B'Tevet in order to prevent thedestruction, not to commemoratesomething. That's why it's so important, and it can't be pushed off. The Yaarot Devash adds another aspect to his. He said that if something is called- " בעצם היום הזה - on this very day " that means it's been etched in time,from time immemorial. What etched this into time? The Yaarot Devash proves (through calculations that we won't get into) that Kayinkilled Hevel on the third day of Tevet. AsarahB'Tevet was after the seven days ofmourning, and it was then that Hashem told Kayin, that he'd be a wonderer. That means that the first decree ofexile came out on Asarah B'Tevet . Therefore it's etched into time as the deciding day of exile. And finally, our punchline- if the first Asarah B'Tevet wasabout a lack of brotherly love, then this is something we have to work on everyyear. If you pay attention, you'll notice that we always read the Parasha of Yosef and his brothers at this time- which isabout getting together again. What does this have to do with Bitachon? Everything in the world. The rabbis say that Kayin killed Hevelbecause they were fighting over the world. The world wasn't big enough for twopeople! The name Kayin comes from the root of Kin'ah-jealousy. The Gaon of Vilna says that the source of both Sinat Hinam, baseless hatred, andjealously is a lack of Bitachon. So, if that's the case, AsarahB'Tevet i s a day to strengthen our bitachon,relying on Hashem and realizing no one can take anything away from us. All hatred is called baselesshatred, because it's for no reason. He didn't do anything to you. Thereis no reason to hate him. And if that's the case, we have to rekindle our friendship andlove, and with that, we will hopefully alleviate a Tisha B'Av this year, andthese days of fasting should turn into days of happiness. Amen.

But being ready doesn't necessarily mean that you're prepared to leave your job. You may be dreaming of telling your boss that your leaving (queue in the famous half-baked movie scene), but before you tell everyone to FU, FU, you're cool, I'm out, - it's so important that you have your finances in order. I get it, you may be working on another boring project, with a terrible team or are working 100 hours weeks and just need a break- but whatever the case may be, let's take a step back from how were feeling and get prepared. Although it is tempting to just quit and have that huge weight lifted off your shoulders, what may be more stressful is trying to figure out how you're going to pay your bills or having to move back home if you make the move to soon. So, if you must quit your job in order to job search or just want a break now, here are 5 steps to help you get financially ready to quit your Big 4 job.Step #1 – Know what you spend money onThis is key, you need to track your spending. Even if you weren't going to leave your job, this is oh so important. You may not realize just how much money you spend on things and when you look it all up, you might be quite surprised. That $5 latte you get every day? Well, that's $100 a month, or $1,200 a year. Now if you go to Starbucks, you're probably spending more than $5 but you get what I'm saying. And $1,200 may seem relatively small compared to your salary but this is just an example. Think about how much you go out to eat, or if you're spending on new clothes, gadgets, whatever– everything adds up! And being used to making a big salary, you never had to think about these things but let me tell you, the sooner you do this, the easier it will get. And I want to caveat this step by saying this is not about saving money, this is all about budgeting and setting expectations on the lifestyle you live.  You all know how to do this. You all are smart – you have to be if you're working at a Big 4 so you know this isn't something new. And I stress this because working at a Big 4 long enough, you get comfortable. You know the money is always coming in. You know you're always going to get a bonus but when switching jobs that's outside of this world, or if you want to save for a house, etc., it's time to get real with your finances. Step #2 Analyze your expensesWhen you're going through your finances, the first thing you want to look at is all of your fixed monthly expenses. This would include your rent or your mortgage/insurance, car payment, utilities, student loans, phone bills, etc. These are the most important to go through as they are not going away, You can choose to not get your latte everyday but you can't just decide not to pay your rent. Total that up and keep it to the side. Then look at how much you are spending on other expenses each month, such as groceries, eating out, going out, purchases, etc. Also look at those sneaky monthly subscriptions as sometimes we forget about them - I'm taking about Netflix, Hulu, LinkedIn Pro, More apple or Google storage space, iTunes, Spotify, you name it!  Find the Full Show Notes here.

There are only a handful of bands who seem to jump fully formed onto the scene from their debut album, and one of these is certainly Lynyrd Skynyrd with their debut studio release (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd).  Lynyrd Skynyrd is arguably the band that defines Southern rock.  Originally formed as “My Backyard” in 1964, the group would take the name “Lynyrd Skynyrd” in 1969, taking the name of a PE teacher (Leonard Skinner) at Robert E. Lee High School — a teacher whose strict enforcement of school policies against boys having long hair resulted in guitarist Gary Rossington dropping out of high school.  In addition to guitarist Rossington, the band consisted of front man Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Allen Collins, guitarist and bassist Ed King, keyboardist Billy Powell, and drummer Bob Burns.Despite the jam band feel from songs like “Freebird,” the band itself went into the studio with their songs quite perfected, and no improvisation was allowed.  The album itself is terrific, and the band vaulted into an incredible popularity after opening for The Who during their Quadrophenia tour.Skynyrd would produce five studio albums before tragedy struck in a plane crash in 1977 that killed Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, and the pilot and co-pilot.  Other members of the band would suffer serious injuries.FOTS Bill Cook brings us this iconic Southern Rock album, which happened to be the first album he ever owned. I Ain't the OneThe opening track from the album was written by Gary Rossington and Ronnie Van Zant.  It tells a story of a rich girl "tryin' to put a hook on me" when she was found to be pregnant, but "you know and I know, woman, I ain't the one."Gimme Three StepsThe lyrics that Ronnie Van Zant penned for this well known tale are a true story.  Ronnie Van Zant had a fake ID, and made the rest of the band stay in the car while he went into The Little Brown Jug in Jacksonville, Florida.  He was confronted by a man with a loaded 44 after dancing with his wife, Linda Lou.  Van Zant ran out to the car and wrote the lyrics on the way back to their studio.Things Goin' OnThis deeper cut is appropriate for today.  It is influenced by the Muscle Shoals sound, and has a great honky tonk keyboard sound.  The song is a warning about social and environmental issues, and the politicians' uncaring attitudes.  Tuesday's GoneA slower cut, this song has become iconic over time.  Stories regarding the meaning of the lyrics conflict to a great degree.  Some say it is about a girl who was left behind, while others say it is about a lifestyle that was lost as the band became famous.  "Train roll on many miles from my home, see, I'm riding my blues away.  Tuesday, you see, she had to be free but somehow I've got to carry on." ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:“Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and the CometsThis song was part of the movie "American Graffiti," debuting in the theaters in August 1973 STAFF PICKS:“Why Should I Care” by Beck, Bogert, & AppiceBruce features a supergroup formed by Jeff Beck, Tim Bogert (bassist for Vanilla Fudge, Cactus), and Carmine Appice (drummer for Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, and Blue Murder).  The song was written by Raymond Louis Kennedy, who also wrote "Sail On, Sailor" for The Beach Boys and "Isn't It Time" by The Babys.  “Half Breed” by CherRob brings us a song about a biracial girl with a white father and a native American mother, and the lack of acceptance she found from both races.  Cher had some Cherokee ancestry on her mother's side.“I Found Sunshine” by The Chi-LitesWayne's staff pick brings us the soulful sound of The Chi-Lites from Chi-town — Chicago.  They were going to name the band "The Hi-Lites," but decided to make it "The Chi-Lites" in homage to their Chicago.  The band charted 21 songs on the hot 100 throughout their career.“Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” by Jim CroceBill brings the staff picks home with acclaimed singer-songwriter Jim Croce's first hit.  Leroy made a pass at Doris, and her husband beat him up.  Leroy Brown was based on a guy that Croce met in the army.  He went AWOL from the army, but was arrested when he came back for his check.  Croce knew after listening to him that he would write a song about him one day. COMEDY TRACK:“Uneasy Rider” by The Charlie Daniels BandContinuing the storytelling theme, the late, great Charlie Daniels tells a story about getting stranded in a red neck bar in Mississippi.

There are men who have a heart of gold and would do what it takes to make a woman of quality theirs. The reason why I say they are "hidden" is that some women ignore or pass them up because they aren't filthy rich or have a certain appeal.I am not encouraging you to settle at all. I want to help you see that there are quality African men out there that will not play with your heart or run games. These men could currently in college, working a blue-collar job or running a small business. These men have aspirations and will be very successful one day but right now they building the blocks all by themselves. This is good because these men are putting things in motion without any help from any lady which means they are motivated to be awesome.Now there is a lot of people talking about NOT being a fixer-upper woman to men and I am not telling you to do this. You should be a mountain woman to a man. In this write-up, I am simply pointing out hidden high-quality men who are quietly working towards future success. Below I will share several examples of high-quality men that I missed.Info: I have never slept with these guys. I dated the most African guys when I was a virgin, until the age of 19 when I met my first son's father.1st Quality African man I missed out onI was 18 years old when my mentor told me to leave my no good Senegalese first son's father alone. He sat me down and told me about a Ghanian man that we both knew. He was very strong, and handsome and had a heart of gold. This man was renting a room from him and was in his final year of studying to be an engineer. This guy was single, extremely nice, had his papers, and we often ate together when I would visit my mentor. He rented this room to save money for a home once he finished grad school. I told my mentor I don't want to be with him or date him because I didn't think he was my type plus I hated the sandals he would wear. In the end, I missed out on this guy because of something petty.My reflections/adviceI turned down this awesome guy to date my first son's father which was a big mistake. My first son's father had the swag and money but no love and compassion. He treated me horrible. Looking back I see where I went wrong.Don't be so petty and naive like I was. Look at the heart and intentions of the guy and then weigh out everything else.2nd Quality African man I missed out on I was around 23 years old when I encountered this Nigerian man back in Brooklyn, New York. He was very intelligent and was a doctor. He had his act together and he was single for sure. However, I wasn't serious and picked out a flaw that he had and ignored him.My reflections/adviceAt this point in my life, I still decided to date even though I was going through somethings and very busy. I wasn't very serious about this man for some reason and I encourage you to make sure you are serious before you venture out to date.3rd Quality African man I missed out onThis man was from Cameroon, living in NYC and was a very hard worker and loved me. He was starting a new business helping people but currently a taxi driver. He really was serious about marrying me and settling down. He wasn't fond of playing games but at that point in my life, I still was into games and that was a big mistake. I broke his heart at that time and decided to get into a relationship with my now Senegalese ex-husband.My reflections/adviceLadies, know what you want first and then start dating. Most of all avoid playing games and being a heart breaker. Be serious.
