1“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.6“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you. 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Sermon Questions:1. Would people around you (family, friends, co-workers) say that you're critical?2. When or toward whom are you most judgemental or critical?3. What sin (patter, habit, etc) do you tend to minimize or defend most?4. Are there sins or failures that seem too trivial to ask God for healing? Are there some that seem to big to admit are real?5. In which relationships do you need to be more gentle and sensitive?6. In what ways does your heart long to be treated? and how can that shape how you engage with others?

Creationtide III Liturgy of the Word Old Testament: Book of Wisdom 7:26-8:1 26 For she is a reflection of eternal light, a spotless mirror of the working of God, and an image of his goodness. 27 Although she is but one, she can do all things, and while remaining in herself, she renews all things; in every generation she passes into holy souls and makes them friends of God, and prophets; 28 for God loves nothing so much as the person who lives with wisdom. 29 She is more beautiful than the sun, and excels every constellation of the stars. Compared with the light she is found to be superior, 30 for it is succeeded by the night, but against wisdom evil does not prevail. 1She reaches mightily from one end of the earth to the other, and she orders all things well. Psalm: Psalm 19 1 The heavens declare the glory of God, * and the firmament shows his handiwork. 2 One day tells its tale to another, * and one night imparts knowledge to another. 3 Although they have no words or language, * and their voices are not heard, 4 Their sound has gone out into all lands, * and their message to the ends of the world. 5 In the deep has he set a pavilion for the sun; * it comes forth like a bridegroom out of his chamber; it rejoices like a champion to run its course. 6 It goes forth from the uttermost edge of the heavens and runs about to the end of it again; * nothing is hidden from its burning heat. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect and revives the soul; * the testimony of the Lord is sure and gives wisdom to the innocent. 8 The statutes of the Lord are just and rejoice the heart; * the commandment of the Lord is clear and gives light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the Lord is clean and endures for ever; * the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, more than much fine gold, * sweeter far than honey, than honey in the comb. 11 By them also is your servant enlightened, * and in keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can tell how often he offends? * cleanse me from my secret faults. 13 Above all, keep your servant from presumptuous sins; let them not get dominion over me; * then shall I be whole and sound, and innocent of a great offense. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, * O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Epistle: James 3:1-12 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers and sisters, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.2For all of us make many mistakes. Anyone who makes no mistakes in speaking is perfect, able to keep the whole body in check with a bridle. 3If we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we guide their whole bodies. 4Or look at ships: though they are so large that it takes strong winds to drive them, yet they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great exploits. How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! 6And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed among our members as a world of iniquity; it stains the whole body, sets on fire the cycle of nature, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7For every species of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, 8but no one can tame the tongue—a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God.10From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so. 11Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and brackish water? 12Can a fig tree, my brothers and sisters, yield olives, or a grapevine figs? No more can salt water yield fresh. Gospel: Mark 8:27-38 27Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28And they answered him, “John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” 29He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.” 30And he sternly ordered them not to tell anyone about him. 31Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32He said all this quite openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33But turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.” 34He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. 36For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life? 37Indeed, what can they give in return for their life? 38Those who are ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of them the Son of Man will also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
Words must show Works. By Pastor George Lehman James 1:22-24 (Msg) – Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don't act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like. 4 Steps: Information; Revelation; Transformation; Application. “Words are like seeds that do more than blow around. They land in our hearts and not on the ground. The seed I plant today will determine the harvest I reap tomorrow.” We are reaping today what we sowed yesterday. AD 48 years ago and is still relevant today: James 3:1-12 (NIV) – “1Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. 3When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.” Words don't become public through our lips alone…. Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Emails, You Tube, Instagram, WhatsApp and the like) are making verbal communication a dying art. Think about it… The vast majority of Communication today takes place via – Smartphone text or Computer. We are full of words, but they come more and more, through fast moving fingers on a Keyboard. Somehow, we haven't learned to heed James's warning…. James 1:19(NIV) – “Be quick to hear and slow to speak.” What comes out of our mouths and what we might type in a text message or send out via social media……This is of vital importance that James devoted twelve entire verses to it. Having just addressed the relationship between our Faith and our Works He turns to the relationship between our Faith and our Words. Our WORDS reveal what is ACTUALLY within us! James explained that having “good works” isn't enough if we don't have “good words.” (All the good you do; your mouth can cancel it.) Growing up this quote was used many times when someone said negative, bad, critical words over them: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” This statement is really not true…. Over the years I have recieved several scares from sticks and stones, but those scars have healed. BUT many people who have been the target of harsh words, piercing words carry wounds for a lifetime some people never heal…. WORDS HAVE POWER! They can bless and encourage or breakdown and discourage. They can help and motivate or hurt and de-motivate. How many children have grown up with hearing a parent say, “You are useless, worthless and won't amount to much.” How many have allowed those words to shape their Self Image and determine their Self Worth and future. Other children had parents affirm them; “You are important, God has an amazing plan for you – You're a winner, you can do it.” How many of these children are successful in all walks of life? As James addressed that topic of our words, he was echoing what Jesus said years earlier when rebuking the Pharisees. Matthew 12:36-37(NIV) – “36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37For by your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned.” James made three statements about the use of our tongues and gave two illustrations to confirm each point. First: He reminds us that speech can in fact, be controlled and directed. He illustrated his point with a horse bridle and a ships rudder. Second: James related an argumentative boastful speech can be destructive like fire and poison. Finally: James pointed out that conflicting* speech can be very deceptive; he illustrated this fact with images of a spring of water and a fig tree. *Teenstrydig Words define us – They reveal what is in our hearts, and our works will show what are really in our hearts!! Whether we speak them, or type them, they have power to heal or to hurt, to help or to destroy. Instead of “JUST DO IT” we need to heed “JUST STOP IT.” You never get into trouble for what you don't say and don't type. Ephesians 5:4 - “Let there be no filthiness (obscenity, indecency) nor foolish and sinful (silly and corrupt) talk, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice your thankfulness [to God]. Before you speak or type let your words pass through your “think gate” T hink H elpfull I nspirational N ecessary K ind

God's Righteous Judgment 2Therefore you haveno excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. Forin passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.2We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things.3Do you suppose, O manyou who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourselfthat you will escape the judgment of God?4Or do you presume onthe riches of his kindness andforbearance andpatience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?5But because of your hard and impenitent heart you arestoring upwrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

The Gospel of John 8-14 Part Two: Believing Is Seeing By Louie Marsh, 5-1-2022 Slides -last one Believing is seeing book cover. THE 1ST ENCOUNTER: “1As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.” (John 9:1, ESV) What They Saw: The Disciples saw a theological CONUNDRUM. Theodicy is the technical term for trying to understand God and evil. Jesus saw a HURTING soul. What They Said: Disciples: Who's FAULT is this? “2And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”” (John 9:2, ESV) Jesus – God is MOVING here! “3Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.” (John 9:3–4, ESV) What It Means: 1) God is not PUNISHING ME for my sins. “1There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? 3No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? 5No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”” (Luke 13:1–5, ESV) “20The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.” (Ezekiel 18:20, ESV) Why Bad Things Happen: Fallen World- Satan- My bad decisions No bodies' fault! THE REACTION: 1) God's work always stirs up TROUBLE! “16Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And there was a division among them. 17So they said again to the blind man, “What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.” 18The Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight, until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight 19and asked them, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?” 20His parents answered, “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind. 21But how he now sees we do not know, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he is of age. He will speak for himself.” 22(His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should confess Jesus to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.) 23Therefore his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.” 24So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”” (John 9:16–24, ESV) 2) My TESTIMONY is my best witness. “25He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” 26They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” 27He answered them, “I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?” 28And they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. 29We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.” 30The man answered, “Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. 31We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him. 32Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. 33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” 34They answered him, “You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.” (John 9:25–34, ESV) THE 2ND ENCOUNTER: 1) I need to be TEACHABLE. “35Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” 36He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” 37Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.”” (John 9:35–37, ESV) 2) True spiritual knowledge results in WORSHIPPING Jesus. “38He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.” (John 9:38, ESV) 3) Knowledge results in either FAITH or JUDGMENT. “39Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” 40Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” 41Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,' your guilt remains.” (John 9:39–41, ESV)
When personal tragedy or collective tragedy strikes, we naturally ask, "Why?" Jesus gives us a better question to ask. Luke 13:1-9 (EHV) At that time there were some present who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2He answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered these things? 3I tell you, no. But unless you repent, you will all perish too. 4Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think that they were worse sinners than all the people living in Jerusalem? 5I tell you, no. But unless you repent, you will all perish too.” 6He told them this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard. He came looking for fruit on it, but he did not find any. 7So he said to the gardener, ‘Look, for three years now I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and I have found none. Cut it down. Why even let it use up the soil?' 8But the gardener replied to him, ‘Sir, leave it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put fertilizer on it. 9If it produces fruit next year, fine. But if not, then cut it down.'”
Hebrews 6.13When God made a promise to Abraham, because he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself,Numbers 11.18And say to the people, consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wailed in the hearing of the Lord, saying, ‘If only we had meat to eat! Surely it was better for us in Egypt.' Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat.John 14.15-17“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.Leviticus 19.2Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. Exodus 32.30On the next day Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. But now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”Hebrews 3.5-6Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, 6 but Christ is faithful over God's house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.Hebrews 10.10And it is by God's will that we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.2Tim 2.1First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, Psalm 1.1-2Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked,or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers;but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night.Romans 2.4Or do you despise the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience? Romans 7.11-2For sin, seizing an opportunity in the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good.1John 1.8-10If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.Matthew 7.14For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.Psalm 51.11-12Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me.Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.
Disciple Up # 216 The State of the American Church & Me! By Louie Marsh, 6-23-2021 “1“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: ‘The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands. 2“ ‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary. 4But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. 6Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.'” (Revelation 2:1–7, ESV) I listened to a podcast today on Christianity Today website called, The Rise & Fall of Mars Hill, you can click the link below to check it out and can subscribe to this podcast on all the usual places. https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/podcasts/rise-and-fall-of-mars-hill/who-killed-mars-hill-church-mark-driscoll-rise-fall.html Necessity of judging (check out my sermon on Judging Like Jesus Judged if that bothers you: http://riverchurchparker.com/sermons/08-the-gospel-of-john-1-7-judge-like-jesus-judges/ ) our spiritual state. *June 21, 2021 - Bible readings and Commentaries* *1st reading: Gn 12:1-9* 12 Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3I will bless those who bless you, and him who curses you I will curse; and by you all the families of the earth shall bless themselves.” q 4 So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5And Abram took Sar'ai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions which they had gathered, and the persons that they had gotten in Haran; and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan. When they had come to the land of Canaan, 6Abram passed through the land to the place at She'chem, to the Oak of Mo'reh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. “7Then the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him. 8Thence he removed to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD. 9And Abram journeyed on, still going toward the Neg'eb. *Gospel: Mt 7:1-5* 7 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. 3Why do you see the speck that is in your brothers eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brothers eye. The Gospel of John 1-7: Part 8: Judge Like Jesus Judges By Louie Marsh, 6-6-2021 1) Judge PROPERLY Not SUPERFICIALLY “24Do not judge by appearances… (John 7:24a, ESV) Appearance (ὄψιν). Primarily, seeing or sight. In 11:44; Apoc. 1:16, face, and hence external appearance. The word occurs only in the three passages cited. “1“Judge not, that you be not judged.” (Matthew 7:1, ESV) Use a TRUE STANDARD of judgement. …but judge with right judgment.”” (John 7:24b, ESV) . 2For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. (Matthew 7:2, ESV) EXAMINE yourself first, then others 3Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? (Matthew 7:3, ESV) APPLY it to yourself before giving others advice or criticism 4Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? (Matthew 7:4, ESV) 2) To do otherwise is HYPOCRISY 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. (Matthew 7:5, ESV) Without judgement there is no… TRUTH “57“And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? 58As you go with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer put you in prison.” (Luke 12:57–58, ESV) JUSTICE “15“You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.” (Leviticus 19:15, ESV) PEACE “13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13, ESV) ASSURANCE “12Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:12–13, ESV) 3) To follow Jesus you must JUDGE. Otherwise I can't DISCERN good from evil. 6“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.” (Matthew 7:6, ESV) I can't OBEY Scripture without proper judgement. “1Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,” (1 John 4:1–2, ESV)
Five years after the European migration and refugee crisis, displacement remains a pressing issue worldwide. According to the UNHCR, the global number of forcibly displaced people passed 80 million during 2020 – the highest estimate ever recorded. Several factors have contributed to this increase, including a rise in political violence and instability, and extreme weather events. But when it comes to calculating how many might be moving due to climate change, there are challenges. Scientific literature hasn't provided a satisfactory answer. In a new article for Nature Communications, Sebastian Schutte, Jonas Vestby, Jørgen Carling and Halvard Buhaug seek to fill this gap and address factors for asylum migration to the European Union. Disciple Up # 182 No Place for Repentance? By Louie Marsh, 10-21-2020 Intro. Episode on change is going to be a ways off. Today's episode wasn't planned or wanted actually, but here it is and I feel like we have to deal with it like it or not. We've talked about this in episodes 93, 96 and at least one before 93 but I'm not sure which one. Also see episodes 97, 98, 99 – Wounded by the Church “1When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? 2Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! 4So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? 5I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, 6but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? 7To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? 8But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers!” (1 Corinthians 6:1–8, ESV) Links Used: https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2018/november-web-only/james-macdonald-harvest-bible-chapel-suing-our-critics-bibl.html https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2020/october/james-macdonald-harvest-walk-word-million-arbitration.html https://harvestbiblechapel.org/2020/10/14/october-14-2020-elder-update/ https://jamesmacdonaldministries.org/reconnecting-with-our-partners/ https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2020/september/ravi-zacharias-sexual-harassment-rzim-spa-massage-investiga.html https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2020/september/ravi-zacharias-sexual-harassment-rzim-spa-massage-investiga.html Verses on Repentance: “38And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38, ESV) “31God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.” (Acts 5:31, ESV) “4Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?” (Romans 2:4, ESV) “9As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us. 10For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.” (2 Corinthians 7:9–10, ESV) “24And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,” (2 Timothy 2:24–25, ESV)
Disciple Up #180 Shepherding: Feeding & Defending the Flock By Louie Marsh, 10-7-2020 Intro. An e-mail poured in! Disagreement on what I said about Witness Lee and the Local Church. Episode 73-74. So what is the duty of teachers and shepherds when it comes to dealing with doctrinal error and, sometimes, out right heresy? Let's take a look! Everyone – Leaders Included – Must Watch Their Mouth! Yes, I am very well aware that we'll be judged for every careless word we speak. I'll go even further we are also commanded not to lie and not to condemn our brothers when we disagree with them “34You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. 36I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”” (Matthew 12:34–37, ESV) “4Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.” (Romans 14:4, ESV) “6The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.” (Romans 14:6–8, ESV) “1“Judge not, that you be not judged. 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.” (Matthew 7:1–5, ESV) TEACHERS AND SHEPHERDS HAVE DUTIES FROM GOD FEED AND LEAD: When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. (Jn 21:15–17). However, pastors and teachers aren't just commanded to teach and lead the flock. We are also called upon to defend it when necessary. James says teachers are under a stricter judgement and this tension between not being judgmental but being discerning and defending your flock from harm, is part of the weight of that judgement. Ezekiel tells us that if the watchman doesn't warn those under his care he will be condemned. So yes, I am very aware of this and living with the weight of this greater judgement is something I agreed to take on when I became a teacher and pastor. WATCHMEN – PROTECTING THE FLOCK “1The word of the Lord came to me: 2“Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman, 3and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.” (Ezekiel 33:1–6, ESV) “3Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. 4For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” (Jude 3–4, ESV) “5And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?” 6And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “ ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 7in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' 8You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”” (Mark 7:5–8, ESV) Should We Name Names? “11But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party.” (Galatians 2:11–12, ESV) “19holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, 20among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.” (1 Timothy 1:19–20, ESV) “16But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, 17and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some.” (2 Timothy 2:16–18, ESV) If the people involved are public figures – like I am – the answer is yes! THE PRICE OF LEADERSHIP: “1Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. 2For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.” (James 3:1–2, ESV) God's judgement is based on what you know. “20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20, ESV) That's the only way His judgements can be just. He can't condemn or justify you if you didn't something was right or wrong. “47And that servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. 48But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.” (Luke 12:47–48, ESV) “12Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.” (1 Corinthians 3:12–15, ESV)

Your support of any amount is needed and very much appreciated. Find out how by clicking here. Thoughts You’ve heard it before, right? Someone is doing something that is patently wrong, and when they’re called on it, they drag out the “Judge not that ye be not judged” line. Or someone fails to take a stand on an immoral issue or person because they think it’s not up to them to judge. Well, after hearing from Paul today, what do you say? Sounds pretty clear to me that Paul encouraged the people of the church at Corinth to get the sinning person out of their fellowship. I thing that would be classified as judging. So then, what did Jesus mean when he told us not to judge? As is usually the case, it is helpful to look at context. The scripture is found in Matthew 7:1-5. Let me read it to you: 1"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.” So what Jesus was really talking about was hypocrisy, not judgement. As you know, He wasn’t very keen on hypocrites. That’s something even non-religious people have in common with our Lord. No one likes a hypocrite. But to look at evil and call it evil is something that we are called to do often in Scripture. To call someone on their sin is right, if it is done with love and a goal to restore them to right living and fellowship. We want to bring them to repentance. James 5:20 says, “…let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.” So the bottom line is this: Keep your account with God clear. As much as is humanly possible live your life in such a way that you will not be in danger of hypocrisy when you are called to confront sin. How else can we be salt and light in a lost and dying world?
Hope For Life with Bob Lenz - an inspiring message for your busy day. This week's devotional theme is Repentance. Today's episode will be from Romans 2:4.Romans 2:4Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? To discover more, visit lifepromotions.org.
Romans 2:1-11 So you have no excuse – anyone, whoever you are, who sits in judgment! When you judge someone else, you condemn yourself, because you, who are behaving as a judge, are doing the same things. 2God's judgment falls, we know, in accordance with the truth, on those who do such things. 3But if you judge those who do them and yet do them yourself, do you really suppose that you will escape God's judgment? 4Or do you despise the riches of God's kindness, forbearance and patience? Don't you know that God's kindness is meant to bring you to repentance? 5But by your hard, unrepentant heart you are building up a store of anger for yourself on the day of anger, the day when God's just judgment will be unveiled – 6the God who will ‘repay everyone according to their works'. 7When people patiently do what is good, and so pursue the quest for glory and honour and immortality, God will give them the life of the age to come. 8But when people act out of selfish desire, and do not obey the truth, but instead obey injustice, there will be anger and fury. 9There will be trouble and distress for every single person who does what is wicked, the Jew first and also, equally, the Greek – 10and there will be glory, honour and peace for everyone who does what is good, the Jew first and also, equally, the Greek. 11God, you see, shows no partiality. The Bible for Everyone: A New Translation . SPCK. Kindle Edition. Lord, because you have made me, I owe you the whole of my love; because you have redeemed me, I owe you the whole of myself; because you have promised so much, I owe you my whole being. I pray you, Lord, make me taste by love what I taste by knowledge; let me know by love what I know by understanding. I owe you more than my whole self, but I have no more, and by myself I cannot render the whole of it to you. Draw me to you, Lord, in the fullness of your love. I am wholly yours by creation; make me all yours, too, in love. Amen. Anselm
Five Reasons Why BAD Presidential Candidates Can Be GOOD For Our Country? Sunday, 10.30.16 If God, in His sovereignty, has allowed these presidential candidates to be our only two choices, then He MUST have a plan. Can BAD presidential candidates be GOOD for our country? #1. TWO NEGATIVE CHOICES FOR PRESIDENT FORCES US TO LOOK FOR POSITIVE RESULTS FROM GOD! And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity (to prosper you and not to harm you) to give you a future and a hope.’ Jeremiah 29:11 Do you believe these scriptures will still be true after November 8th? #2. GOD CAN DRAW A STRAIGHT LINE WITH A CROOKED STICK! As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive. Genesis 50:20 God is stewarding national and global history for His own good purposes. No man or woman in history has ever been too immoral, powerful, or evil to keep themselves from being a tool in God’s hand. They are either used in God’s hand or crushed in it. #3. THE PRESENCE OF SPIRITUAL DARKNESS IN THE WHITE HOUSE REVEALS THE NEED FOR SPIRITUAL LIGHT IN MY HOUSE. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 (Not On Screen) The decisions of the supreme court justices, racial equality, women’s rights, abortion, gender identity, religious liberty in the workplace, honoring marriage vows between men and women, legalizing homosexual marriage, legalized drugs, caring for the poor, exploiting workers, paying living wages, Healthcare. providing for the aliens and strangers among us, corrupt and lying, and bullying those who disagree. Every political issue that matters nationally also matters personally and locally. These issues are alive every moment of every day, not just once every four years. We vote for righteousness every day of our lives in every move we make. The leader of the free world was never meant to occupy the job of being the light of the world. YOU are the light of the world! YOU! #4. IT ONLY TAKES ONE THING TO CHANGE EVERYTHING. (Will McIvoy Quote) 3When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. James 3:3-5 A dirty, smelly cave filled with animals in a tiny, insignificant village on the outskirts of Jerusalem was the birthplace of the savior of the world. Sometimes it only takes one tiny thing! The political and religious leaders during first century Roman governmental rule were just as corrupt and immoral as our political leaders today. They crucified thousands of Jews during their military occupation. Jesus Christ was just one of them. Sometimes it only takes one sacrificial and miraculous thing! #5. CHANGING THE NATION FROM THE INSIDE OUT IS NOW CLEARLY OUR ONLY OPTION. We don’t have the option for spiritual light and truth to trickle down from the White House. We can pray powerful prayers! We can do powerful works! We can Evangelize, Disciple, and Serve “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10 THE PERMANENT REVOLUTION WE NEED IS A PERMANENT REVI
