本期讨论的内容有: 牙买加的deejay 文化,跟我们通常认知的DJ 是不同的,其实更像 MC; 70s 开始流行的deejay 文化中, riddim 的概念开始突出,也出现 dub 这种后来被广泛应用于电子乐制作的手法; 想要了解70s中期雷鬼deejay 面貌,推荐以制作人 Bunny Lee为核心的 backing band The Aggrovators ; 70s 后期至80s前期发展出了 rub-a-dub这种风格,成为了dancehall 开始的根源,最有代表性的backing band 是 The Revolutionaries,Sly&Robbie脱离乐队后,Roots Radics 与制作人 Hery “Junjo” Lawes ,混音师 The Scientist 成为固定组合; 出现于50s末期的牙买加 sound system 的有趣背景; 当代dancehall 音乐人里我们喜欢的 Koffee,Chronixx,和 dancehall 对当下流行乐的影响体现; 90s在纽约有很多Hip-Hop与 dancehall的融合,是一段非常奇特的时期(24期我们也说过像 KRS-One 就非常喜欢dancehall 元素),代表人物 Super Cat, Shaggy, Bounty Killer,也产生了之后更跨界的 Ragga ; 我们都非常喜欢的一个自2000s以来长期统治 dancehall 的狠哥哥Vybz Kartel; 牙买加的俱乐部文化 daggering 可太牛逼了; 2000s 出现了一个非常著名的一个Riddim 类型—— Diwali Riddim (制作人是 Lenky)对当时的流行乐影响其实也很大,只不过并不太被承认; Diwali Riddim 的流行跟当时美国市场喜欢异域音乐的口味相对应; MoWax 曾经也出过一个 Riddim 合辑 ”Now Thing Vol.1” 想了解更多 2000s dancehall音乐的影响可以听 Greensleeves 厂牌发行的合辑; 老林推荐的出版公司:Trojan, Dr Bird, VP, Blood&Fire, Heartbeat, Island Records, Jet Star Playlist: Revolutionaries - “Kunta Kinte” Barrington Levy - “Here I Come” Young Thug - “Wyclef Jean” Super Cat feat. Heavy D - “Dem No Worry We” The Notorious B.I.G - “Respect” Bounty Killer, Fugees - “Hip-Hopera” Vybz Kartel - “Pussy Jaw” Nicki Minaj, Skillibeng - “Crocodile Teeth” Wayne Wonder - “No Letting Go” Ward 21 - “Mad” Bob Marley - “Redemption Song” 延伸阅读: https://digitizedgraffiti.com/2017/02/28/rub-a-dub-style-inside-the-roots-of-dancehall-culture/ https://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2015/10/diwali-loop-history 老林特意为节目挑选的 Spotify 歌单:

b. 13 January 1946, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Boris Gardiner, bass player, vocalist and musical director, has never been one of reggae's most celebrated names, but he has remained a permanent fixture in the music and has three major UK chart hits to his credit. His bass-playing skills first emerged in the late 60s, and the bands he graced included Byron Lee's Dragonaires, the Aggrovators, Crystalites and many more. His first brush with chart success was ‘Elizabethan Reggae', recorded for Lee, which hit number 14 in January 1970. Gardiner toured the UK in support of his hit, which, at first, was incorrectly credited to its producer. His debut album, again produced by Lee, was released the same year. In its wake, Gardiner immersed himself in session work, regularly playing as part of the Now Generation band, and he later became a member of Lee Perry's Upsetters, following Carlton and Aston ‘Familyman' Barrett's defection to the Wailers. His solid, incisive basslines were seldom prominent, yet always effective. In the 80s, as reggae was on the cusp of the digital era, an age likely to put paid to the careers of bass players, Gardiner's mellow, soulful voice came to the fore on a MOR reggae ballad, ‘I Want To Wake Up With You', which hit number 1 in the UK charts. Gardiner, who had been intermittently dogged by illness throughout the 80s, was finally receiving his due. His follow-up, ‘You're Everything To Me', went to number 11, and the seasonal ‘The Meaning Of Christmas' also scraped the charts.
In 1960 he joined Richard Ace's band the Rhythm Aces, which also included Delano Stewart, later of the Gaylads. With the group he recorded "Angella", and the local hit "A Thousand Teardrops". The group split up and by 1963 Gardiner had joined Kes Chin and The Souvenirs as vocalist, and began learning guitar. He went on to join Carlos Malcolm & the Afro Caribs with whom he started playing bass guitar after the original bassist left, and when that band ended he started his own group, the Broncos, named after the Bronco Club where they had a residency. He later played with Byron Lee's Dragonaires. In the late 1960s and 1970s he worked extensively as a session musician as a member of the Now Generation, The Upsetters, The Aggrovators, and The Crystallites. While working at Studio One he played on hits such as The Heptones' "On Top", Larry and Alvin's "Nanny Goat", and Marcia Griffiths' "Feel Like Jumping". As a solo artist, Gardiner had a hit with the song "Elizabethan Reggae" in 1970, a version of Ronald Binge's "Elizabethan Serenade".[1] When the single was released in the United Kingdom, the first copies were printed with the label incorrectly identifying Byron Lee (not Gardiner) as the performer

Few artistes have contributed more to Jamaican music than Ansel Collins. Not necessarily as a featured artiste, though he can lay claim to two UK top 10 records, but more as one of the musicians who have helped form the music over the last 40 years. He must be on many hundreds (probably even thousands!) of reggae tunes. And, whenever the Reggae Hall of Fame is built, he will have the right to be among the first handful admitted. Born in Jamaica in 1949, he began in the 60s as a singer but then switched, first to drums and then more fruitfully to keyboards. In 1971, with vocalist Dave Barker, he recorded "Double Barrel" for the Winston Riley Techniques label. The tune went to No 1 in the UK and young Ansel found himself, fresh from Jamaica, in the history books and on "Top of the Pops". The first ever all-male duo to top the UK Pop charts saw the follow-up "Monkey Spanner" miss the top spot but still make the top 10.In 1973, he recorded "Stalag 17", an instrumental track. Collins spent the rest of the 70s busily working as a studio musician with every reputable aggregate that Jamaica could put together. This included being a member of the Bunny Lee house band The Aggrovators, and (with a young Sly and Robbie), the keyboardist of the Channel One house band, The Revolutionaries. When Sly and Robbie set up their own Taxi label, he became part of their house band, the Taxi Gang too! He also worked with many of the most legendary producers of the 70s such as King Tubby and Lee Perry (for whom he wrote and recorded "Night Doctor").
