The last time we talked with Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, it was Dec 2020. Now, it's May 2022 — 17 months later. A lot has changed and in some ways it feels like nothing has changed. This time around, we get into current details around coronavirus/COVID, what's happening now/the current state, and what the future looks like. We recorded this episode over two sessions and along the way we get into many topics, including the notion of reinfections (more and more common with Omicron), how the testing numbers may not reflect actual cases with more and more home testing (and some people not testing at all), how an at-home test is different than a PCR test, and the current slate of variants — BA.1, BA.2, BA2.12.1, BA.4, BA.5, XE, etc. We also touch on COVID therapies including Paxlovid, an oral antiviral treatment, and Evusheld, monoclonal antibodies. As well, we talked about some of what Dr. Chin-Hong is concerned about in the future — including avian flu and influenza along with the idea that diseases like valley fever (coccidioidomycosis) have been creeping up over the last few years because we as humans are settling into areas (more rural, for instance) that large groups of us haven't been before. And then, we end the show by talking about his work as a professor of medicine and educator at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) — what teaching medicine has looked like the last few years with students (and teachers) as little blobs on a screen. Stay tuned until the end of the episode for a longer bit about the flu that didn't really have a place anywhere else. Special Guest: Dr. Peter Chin-Hong.

Cambodia has taken the biggest step in lifting requirements for entry with the elimination of a negative test result upon arrival as well as the dropping of the antigen test. This will not only make an entry into Cambodia easier but will also allow for less restrictive movements back and forth between Vietnam and Thailand. Also in this episode, the tourists are coming back to Vietnam and Malaysia is now open to tourists without requiring a sandbox type scheme to Langkawi Island. Southeast Asia is slowly returning to a tourist friendly destination. East Asia is still however closed to tourists with the exception of South Korea. Wertnote: 9,3/10 Punkten!

Jamaica offers a lot of island vibes and it is a popular vacation destination for a lot of people. Christopher will give us firsthand knowledge on what's going on in Jamaica right now. This episode will definitely give you warmth and will make you excited on your next vacation. Episode HighlightsOne restaurant in Montego Bay called Pelican is highly recommended from its good Jamaican food and ambiance. It has an open-air seating with a man-made waterfall in the background. A really cool bar from the South Coast called Pelican Bar is located in the middle of the ocean. Montego Bay is one of the two international airports which is mostly used for visitors. The majority of hotels in Jamaica are along the North Coast. Kingston, which is the capital city of Jamaica, is where the other international airport is located. It is mostly used by urban travelers. Kingston became a genuine international destination for people who are engaged in cultural experience. A number of hotels opened up in this area such as Marriott Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott, Jamaica Pegasus and many more. In terms of the travel protocols, Jamaica doesn't have a vaccine mandate to enter the country. However, a testing requirement is needed before you can enter Jamaica. Within 72 hours of your flight, you need to take an Antigen Test or PCR Test and must test negative. You also have to fill out a Travel Authorization to enter the country. If you want to experience a VIP treatment once you've entered the country of Jamaica and before you leave, then you must purchase what they call Club Mobay. Laura and Benny discussing the slight pause of the final lifting of restrictions: COVID preventive measures will be in place until Spring 2022. Mainly: COVID Certs (not used at weddings but get vaccinated!), Mask Wearing and Physical Distancing. For Weddings, easiest one first: Curfews are gone! Normal trading hours are now permitted for hospitality. Numbers: there is no explicit numbers restriction but venues must adhere to preventative measures. That means venue should follow guidelines. Following guidelines may result in reduced capacity. Weddings are made up of potentially vaccinated and unvaccinated guests so pods/tables of 6 will most likely apply. Table service or other non-crowd-gathering queueing systems to be used when serving drinks. Antigen Test will not be used at weddings but will be sent to vaccinated people if they are a close contact. People should monitor their exposure and contacts in the run up to a wedding. (So you can have hundreds of contacts at your wedding!) The above is from the press conference on the 19th October 2021, Failte Ireland will release guidelines shortly to confirm the operations of weddings in hospitality settings. So close but no cigar, yet! Benny is gutted that his prediction is off by a month, most likely there will be an announcement in January 2022 to confirm the end of all measures. As of October 2021 they are saying February 2022 for removal of all measures. Pre the Christmas disaster of 2020, Benny said the 3rd of Jan 2022 would be the end of all restrictions, COVID would be done! He might yet be right but it is a bitter blow for his COVID response rating. Laura and Benny Photography are wedding photographers in Ireland.
