As my full Arkham playthrough continues, we find ourselves at a new low with the game most people forget even exists: Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, the downloadable side-scrolling Metroidvania that's 90% tedious, 10% interesting. In many ways it feels like a bonus little side story to Arkham Origins and not an essential entry, so it's easy to see why it's often forgotten about; though, the fact it isn't that great of a game (probably) doesn't help either. It's biggest crime, however, is its desire to stay too true to the Arkham formula, instead of trying to find an identity of its own.
I thought I played Batman: Arkham Origins when it originally came out. I was wrong. When I booted up the game on my Xbox 360, all I had was a 5% completed save file from 11 years ago to the day, so what I thought was going to be another Second Run was actually an Attack the Backlog. I don't know if it's because it was all new to me or if it's just a better game (or maybe a little of both), but I had a significantly better time with Arkham Origins than I did with Arkham City. Arkham Origins takes what Arkham City did and simplifies and focuses it, delivering an overall more satisfying experience for someone like me who isn't a Batman super fan. It may not reach the heights of Arkham Asylum, but it's a worthy addition to the Arkham saga and should be treated on an equal footing with the Rocksteady-developed Arkham games.
Linktree: https://linktr.ee/AnalyticAnalytic Dreamz dives into "Batman: Arkham Shadow," released on October 21, 2024, as a sequel to Arkham Origins. Set in Gotham's Blackgate Penitentiary during a Fourth of July crisis, the game features The Rat King as the main antagonist leading a chaos-spreading cult. Experience classic Arkham combat adapted for VR, with gesture-based attacks, stealth, and detective mode through Metroidvania-style exploration. Unique gameplay includes switching between Batman and Bruce Wayne's undercover persona, Matches Malone, in a first-person perspective. The voice cast includes Roger Craig Smith as Batman, alongside Troy Baker, Elijah Wood, and Tara Strong. Exclusively on Meta Quest 3 & 3S, developed by Camouflaj with Rocksteady's support, it's free with Quest 3/3S until April 30, 2025. Despite some launch bugs, it's celebrated for its VR immersion, selling over a million copies by February 2025, and receiving an 87/100 on Metacritic. However, exclusivity and technical issues have sparked controversy. Analytic Dreamz discusses the game's impact on the VR market, potential future titles, and whether it sets a new standard for VR gaming. Check out more information (https://www.sagaftra.org/contracts-industry-resources/contracts/video-game-strike/take-action) on the ongoing SAG-AFTRA video game actor strike and support the actors in any way that you can. Batman video games got a resurgence with 2009's Arkham Asylum, continued to be critically acclaimed with 2011's Arkham City, and then started to become divisive with 2013's Arkham Origins and especially 2015's Arkham Knight. Since Arkham Origins takes place during Christmas, we've chosen to dive into that one. Arkham Origins seems to be the odd one out, the black sheep, when discussing this series, and we don't understand why- if the reason for disliking this game is that it doesn't star Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill...you're going to have to find another reason. This game rules! Listen in to find out why we feel so strongly about that. Guest info: Mick Davis aka Mick Arcade. Linktree: https://linktr.ee/AnalyticNotorious Mass Effect: Dive into Batman: Arkham ShadowA VR return to Arkham's dark beginningsThis segment of Notorious Mass Effect delves into the shadows of Gotham City with Batman: Arkham Shadow, the latest installment in the Arkhamverse designed exclusively for Meta Quest 3.Building on Legacy:Arkham Shadow aims to recapture the essence of Rocksteady's iconic trilogy, particularly the atmosphere and psychological horror of Arkham Asylum. Developed by Camouflaj, the studio behind Iron Man VR, the game leverages the expertise of Rocksteady veterans for an authentic Arkham experience.A Younger Dark Knight:Set between Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum, Shadow features a less experienced, more arrogant Batman. Witness the origins of iconic villains like Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, Two-Face, Ratcatcher, and a young Jim Gordon. The primary antagonist is Ratcatcher, leading a fanatical cult that throws Gotham into chaos.VR Immersion:Prepare for an intense first-person VR experience. Engage in classic Batman activities like gliding, detective work, and brutal combat, all heightened by VR's immersive nature. The game promises exploration, boss battles, investigations, and cinematics, reminiscent of Arkham Asylum's structure. Expect an open-world environment with focused areas for exploration and hidden secrets.Respecting the Legacy:Camouflaj understands the weight of the Arkhamverse. Ryan Payton, the studio head, emphasizes the challenge and privilege of working within the established lore while having the freedom to explore narrative gaps. The team is dedicated to maintaining the series' high standards and interconnectedness. What to Expect Next:A full gameplay reveal is anticipated at Gamescom this August. The recent Summer Game Fest trailer confirmed the return of Roger Craig Smith as Batman and showcased key villains like Scarecrow and Dr. Harleen Quinzel (soon-to-be Harley Quinn).Mark Your Calendars:Batman: Arkham Shadow is slated for a Fall 2024 release, exclusively on Meta Quest 3.A Descent into Darkness:The game is described as having a nightmarish, apocalyptic atmosphere. VR's first-person perspective and horror-focused elements have the potential to make this the scariest Arkham game yet.The Verdict:Batman: Arkham Shadow offers a thrilling return to the series' roots with a fresh VR perspective. Exploring Batman's formative years and the origins of iconic villains, the game boasts a strong development team and a commitment to the franchise's legacy. Gear up for an immersive and potentially terrifying experience in the dark heart of Gotham.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Tis the season for vengeance! It's once again time to highlight an Arkham game, this one being seasonally appropriate. Batman: Arkham Origins is a spin-off/prequel to the mainline Trilogy. Even so it has stuck around over the years as one of Sqat's faves to play for the holiday vibes and atmosphere. Ratnado and he talk about the distinctions or lack therof between this game and the others.Sqat also briefly talks about the newly released "Shadows" trailer for the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game. That trailer was unveiled after this episode's recording so Ratnado and Sqat did not have the opportunity to discuss it.
The (New) Joy of Gaming Podcast - Episode Eight Batman in Video Games Retrospective (Batman: The Video Game - Gotham Knights) On this episode of the (New) Joy of Gaming Podcast, we look back at Batman's history in video games, from the original NES game Batman: The Video Game (1989), up through the release of Gotham Knights this past month. To do this, we follow the dark knight through a wide array of gaming adventures, including some super-high highs and some crushingly-low lows, but most notably, we discuss the Rocksteady Games (Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Knights), the LEGO Batman games, the NetherRealm games (like Injustice: Gods Among Us and MK vs. DC Universe), and Batman: The Telltale Series, to name a few. Today, Ethan and Gabe sit down to discuss the ugly duckling of an Arkham Game by WB Games Montreal... Arkham Origins. Not only does it feel like a carbon copy of Original Arkham developer Rocksteadys "Arkham City", but it adds nothing new or innovative to the existing legacy. Lets talk about it. Did you like this game when it came out?
In episode 348, we're beyond excited about Evil Dead the Game. We didn't expect greatness, but we got a quality experience, faithful to the films we can't wait to play again. Brett and Austin also try the new battle royale Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodhunt. It's a nice twist on the battle royale genre, but is it enough? Brett also tries the 30 min experience that is Aperture Desk Job on the Steam Deck.In the news, both EA and Take-Two are working on a ton of new games and we speculate what they are. We also talk about PS Plus's new game reveals coming to their Game Pass competitor. We get surprised by a new CCG called Marvel Snap from the creators of Hearthstone. Our discussion is focused on Gotham Knights. Gameplay was released for Red Hood and Nightwing and we're concerned. It doesn't look as good as it should and the gameplay may feel a bit flat. Will they redeem themselves? Did you just double-dip? I recently picked up the three Rocksteady developed Batman games for the Xbox. Hey, WB, Arkham Origins could use a remaster release or something. It's a good title amongst the three and well worth being included in the “trilogy” (which wouldn't make it a trilogy, I know). Anyway, it brought to […]

Fred tried The Forgotten City, briefly jumped into Arkham Origins, but spent most of his time continuing to love Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Part of creating The Max Frequency Podcast was to restore all the episodes of Behind the Pixel, an interview show I did in 2017 for seven episodes. These will be mixed into this feed so that the show can live on podcast services once more. Below are the original show notes, with some light editing. I hope you enjoy. All aboard!!! Join Mike and Neil as they talk about The 1985 classic book The Polar Express and all of its adaptations, including the poorly received GameCube game from 2004. While the game may not have lived up to the movie its based on, there's still plenty to talk about for this festive episode. The boys talk about their memories associated with The Polar Express and bring up some other Christmas-themed games like Home Alone for the Genesis, Arkham Origins, and Elf Bowling! Who could forget Elf Bowling (also, there's a movie??). Skip to 40:40 to hear Neil read the final back of the case for 2020!

Uns kriegt kein Podcastthema so schnell klein! Es war ein langer Weg, aber er ist noch nicht zu Ende. Im nächsten und letzten Teil der Reihe wird es dann um Arkham Origins, Arkham Knight und beide Telltale Spiele gehen. Es bleibt also hochklassig. Bleibt also dran! Selbe Bat-Zeit, selber Bat-Kanal! Und viel Spaß beim Hören!

We really like the look of The Batman and that gets us on a tear about the many onscreen Batmen. The Snyder Cut has us excited and hopeful about the future of the DCEU. Gotham Knights... looks fine, but we're pretty passionate about Rocksteady's Arkham series and how bad Arkham Origins was. We love the many interpretations of Batman and that's why Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton sharing the screen in The Flash gets us all hot and bothered. Also, we talk about the DC Animated Universe for a while, including the 90's and 00's cartoons. The Suicide Squad movie and game both look dope. Shazam! is a great movie that's all I want to say. And Titans seems to be going the direction a lot of DC properties go: it's becoming Batman. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

For nearly a decade, WB Montreal has existed in the shadow of its better-known and more-beloved sister studio Rocksteady. But finally, it appears the Quebecois dev is poised to break out. Yet again, the team has teased a vague image on its social media channels that almost certainly points towards a new Batman game, something WB Montreal has dabbled in in the past with 2013's Arkham Origins. But with Rocksteady's Arkham Trilogy getting all of the respect and Origins getting precious little, is WB Montreal walking into a trap? We talk it through. Then: Media Molecule's Dreams finally goes gold, Platinum Games confusingly accepts substantial Chinese investment, Capcom is emphasizing the Remake in Resident Evil 3 Remake, and Nioh 2 is so friggin' hard that Team Ninja is toning it down. Plus: Will Beyond Good & Evil 2 ever come out? How do we define "hardcore" gaming? Is Tetris Effect dropping the ball when it comes to DLC? Should a man be murdered for thinking Friends is better than Seinfeld? There's much to discuss! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
