Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Military reporter Emanuel Fabian joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Released hostage Edan Alexander is back in his family's embrace in Israel and is recovering from his 584 days in Hamas captivity. We hear what we know so far about Alexander's health and the conditions in which he was kept. A few hours after the final living US-Israeli hostage was released by his Hamas captors, the IDF says that its forces carried out a “targeted attack” on “key” Hamas fighters who were operating a command center in the Nasser Hospital compound in Khan Younis. Among those reported killed is Palestinian journalist Hassan Eslaiah, who on October 7 was freelancing for the Associated Press and invaded Israel with the terrorists and photographed them entering Kibbutz Nir Oz, where dozens of civilians were massacred. Was he the target of the airstrike? Nour Bitawi, a senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative who Israeli authorities say was planning imminent terror attacks, was killed by troops Friday in the West Bank city of Nablus. Fabian explains who Bitawi was and how significant this mission could be. The Mossad spy agency and the Israel Defense Forces recovered the remains of Sgt. First Class Zvi Feldman, who went missing in the First Lebanon War’s battle of Sultan Yacoub in 1982. The battle, nearly 43 years ago, claimed the lives of 21 Israeli servicemen, and more than 30 were injured during it. Feldman, a tank soldier, went missing during the battle along with Sgt. First Class Yehuda Katz and Sgt. First Class Zachary Baumel. Baumel’s remains were recovered and returned to Israel in 2019.Fabian describes how the body of Feldman was recently recovered from “the heart of Syria” in a special operation. Naomi Ashley got her start in music after moving to Chicago and working in Comedy Improv. Initially, her songs were part of the joke and then she got serious in her writing. She gave up improv and began playing folk/country music in the early 2000s and since then has issued at least two albums and is getting ready to go into the studio to make another. In 2018, Ralph Baumel saw her perform a Pretenders song on stage and something clicked. They formed the Real Pretenders and have been delighting audiences since. Check them out at the Acorn Theater on May 28 performing the entire Pretenders "Learning To Crawl" album and Lucinda Williams 1996 album, "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road."

As a breast cancer survivor, my goal is to help other women with their battle to fight cancer. In 2018, I had four surgeries for breast cancer and ovary removal. I created a pillow system to make myself more comfortable while sleeping on my back. I had to find pillows and put them together to make a comfy, and cozy cocoon. My husband called it the "life raft." I started lending my pillow system out to women in our support group who also had surgery. They loved it and said that it truly helped them sleep after their surgeries. I realized that people can really benefit from this pillow system after surgery. As we all know, sleeping is critical for healing. This pillow system helps you sleep, therefore heal. A little more about me, I am 48 years old with two beautiful and amazing daughters and a loving and supportive husband. We have two amazing dogs, Cal and Sunny. I recently retired from being a family law attorney mediator, where I helped people work through conflict. I am also a serial entrepreneur. I get a lot of energy from starting projects and businesses and meeting a need in the community. Helping people is extremely important to me. I truly hope that the Sleep Again Pillows can help you sleep again.

Adam Baumel is a progressive running for the Assembly in District 64.Adam served in the Navy from 2009-2013. When the time came for Adam to end his active service, he knew it was time to make his life long dream come true. He was ready to focus on his future, and New York City. He applied to John Jay College, where he majored in Political Science. He did not see this major just as a career path, but rather a chance to give back to the people, and the city that gave him so much hope, and power to dream big as a child. In 2014-2015, he spent a year participating in a Veteran Affairs work-study program. Here he aided fellow student veterans with getting set up in school. Also educating them on resources the school offered, along with beginning the some times arduous process to receive VA healthcare. In 2016, he had the privilege of taking part in the New York State Assembly internship program where he worked in the Albany office of assembly member, Michael Benedetto from The Bronx who was the Chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee at the time. During this time Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver was indicted for campaign finance charges, and in the following months Senate Maj. Leader Dean Skelos was brought up on similar charges. This was a turning point for Adam, like most people he knew the government had flaws but not like this. He has since made it his mission to help get our government on the path to respectability and legitimacy.Although he has lived in numerous areas across different boroughs, he has settled in the 64th district. This where he has chosen to plant roots, and build a life. As your assemblyman he will encourage an actual open door policy, where constituents will be able to reach their rep without jumping through hoops. He plans to create efficient communication with the intention to keep you in the loop regarding upcoming legislation at all times.“I believe in a truly inclusive government that has a core identity of transparency and accountability. I believe in creating an atmosphere for people to be far mYou can learn more about Adam here: https://www.baumelfor64.com/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

If you walked into any club worth its salt back in 2009, chances were pretty high you would encounter one of the most outrageous tracks to be released that year. Patrice Bäumel’s ‘Roar’ (on Get Physical records) was a perfect slice of techno/house/electronica madness, a track so woundly tied up that you could physically feel the anxiety rise up in your body in anticipation for what was about to happen. That release heralded a new force on the scene and can rightly be considered as Bäumel’s breakout track. Fast forward 6 years later, and the ex-Trouw resident has attained a level of maturity with his sound that few artists reach, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by major players like K7, Systematic, Diynamic, Trouw and Turbo, all of whom has released his music at some point. Part of the Kompakt stable now, Baumel has been spreading his house/techno gospel all around the world, delivering the sort of epic, yet somehow restraint sets, that will make you seek all of his online mixes afterwards. He really has been going about his business in a way that is admirable and non-fussy, describing what he does as ‘techno music for grown-ups’ – a very apt description indeed. One read of his excellent interview below really paints a picture of an artist who just LOVES music, and it really shows in the tracklisting which features a host of obscure, yet excellent selections. And we are pleased to say that his Balance podcast might just go down as a stone cold classic. Interview and tracklisting here: http://www.balancemusic.com.au/news/balance-selections-patrice-baumel/
