To celebrate International women's day we are so excited to be joined by Jayne Lasley founder of clothing brand Fairlie Curved. Fairlie Curved is a brand that is dedicated to helping curvy women, particularly those with fuller busts, feel and look fabulous in stylish garments that fit and flatter their unique shapes. Jayne is an ex New Look and Internacionale Buyer with a very commercial eye. It was vey clear from day 1 that she was going to excel in a fashion retail career - who wants to make a tea towel in home economics? Not Jayne, hot pants are much more fabulous! She joins to tell us her story about how she started this incredible brand using all her skills and knowledge from her fashion buying days. Jayne originally created the idea for Fairlie Curved at university however it wasn't until later during her retail buying career that she made the idea a reality. Jayne found she was often complimented on the way that she dressed, and she set up an account to help other women with small band, big cup figures to dress well for their shapes. She shared tips and advice, such as wearing a chunky necklace to take the focus off the larger bust and balance the shape. It was so well received, and as Jaynes following grew, she knew she wanted to do more for the community she had built. After pulling out her university designs from the loft during the pandemic Jayne decided now was the time to launch her brand. It so clearly filled a gap in the market. A brand for curvy women looking for help to dress for their shape and most importantly, feel good in what they are wearing.  Collaboration and feedback is integral to Fairlie Curved, and it is part of the brand ethos to always interact with the community to ensure that the brand remains focused on designing and stocking products that answer to the customers needs. We talk all about Jaynes buying career from the experience she gained at some of the UK's top high street brands to the contacts she made by supporting suppliers with constructive feedback. Jayne lets us into a few funny stories on her travels around the world and how her buying career has given her the skills and confidence to launch this inspiring brand.Fairlie Curved is a brand that that is already on its way to achieving great recognition. Tops featured on Lorraine and Loose Women, pop ups in Bravissimo the brand has also won awards in particular the business growth award at the Icon business awards. Our take aways:Brands that start with a community have a clear target audience and a clear customer base. Building a community, finding like minded individuals and creating a space where people feel seen, will make it much easier to see the opportunity to create products that solve a problem for people. Communicating with your community, sharing ideas and welcoming feedback will enable you to create products that your customers actually want. It will help your brand to stay relevant and to survive in the retail landscape. Set clear boundaries for you and your business in order to allow you to have quality time for work and your personal life, as these are equally important. Work/life balance can be achieved even in successful business that can still maintain growth. Being efficient by making quick decisions and not over analysing will free up time. You can check out the fairlie curved range at www.fairliecurved.com and follow the brand on instagram @fairliecurvedIf you've liked this episode please rate, follow, subscribe and share :) - and if you already have, thank you!Follow us @buyingandbeyond on Instagram Send us a DM with any 'Retail Therapy' storiesFind out more about us www.buyingandbeyond.com

What do Duolingo's ‘Duo', ‘Percy Pig' & AO's marketing have in common?  Fun, personality & an easily translatable visual identity.  They've cracked the code on breaking through social media's noise.  Industry-leading fashion brands, like Lounge Underwear, are now crossing categories to market like them. Here, you'll learn how to too.  In today's episode, Verity interviews Sonia Hussain (Brand & Communications Specialist | ex-Lounge, ex-Bravissimo) on building a great brand in 2024. Together, they dig deep on the importance of establishing a strong identity, making meaningful connections with your customers, and the three key pillars to any Advocacy strategy – purpose, positioning, and personality.  Touching on direct strategies for building a brand people actively seek out to engage with, Sonia also shares advice for utilizing influencer marketing at every stage of this funnel.  Stand out by challenging the social status-quo.  Get started with Sonia's take on… Retailtainment in Community-Building: Building meaningful connections is made easier by creating experiential marketing that resonates. Brands need to focus on ‘retailtainment' — blending retail and entertainment to engage customers in-store. Hosting community-driven events, like Lounge Underwear's partnership with Girls Who Walk in Manchester, only serves to strengthen relationships and build a loyal customer base. Looking Outside Your Category: The social landscape is oversaturated. Now, to stand out, brands must innovate beyond the playbooks provided by the platforms to make their own mark. Observe and learn from successful strategies outside your category; like Sonia's latest obsession with AO's engaging social content. Tailoring your approach to each platform is necessary – actioning content that fulfills Instagram's need for polished inspiration, while prioritizing playful engagement on TikTok. Thinking Outside The Demographic Box: Actually understanding your audience, from their own input over any assumptions, is crucial for crafting compelling brand narratives. The ‘Barely There Bra' campaign was a success for Lounge when they listened to direct feedback, tapping into Gen Z's preference for comfort over traditional underwear choices. This data-driven approach allowed them to craft a campaign that worked; selling out of bras that were marketed without even a photo. Here's how you build for brands with a mission-driven approach.  Rate & review Building Brand Advocacy: Apple Podcasts Spotify Connect with Sonia: On LinkedIn

It was released as a launch title for the N64 in 1996 by Paradigm Simulation and is the second in the series (Pilotwings, Pilotwings 64, Pilotwings Resort). Pilotwings 64 continues the tradition of a lightweight flight sim where you use a variety of flight tools like a hang glider, jet pack, gyrocopter to complete simple objectives, or just fly around more casually.   Dan Hess is a composer, performer and sound designer with over 30 years experience. In addition to his work on Pilotwings 64, Dan wrote the music for F1 World Grand Prix for N64. During the development of Pilotwings, Dan was the in-house composer for Paradigm Simulations / Entertainment. Dan plays a mean keyboard and has been performing since he was a teen, with the likes of Second Self and Skeleton Crew. Dan continues to work in tech, and is engaged in a number of side projects like recreating a lot of the Pilotwings 64 soundtrack for donors to his Patreon. Over the course of the show, Dan also shares a number of tracks related to his time in VGM, some of which he uploads to YouTube. Also guest hosting with us is Ian Cowell, a guitarist and VGM musician who grew up with the N64 and loved Pilotwings 64 enough to put out a cover of Birdman, which we use to close out the show. If you enjoy his track, check out the rest of his recently released album Exceptional Goblins, with features a total of 12 awesome and laid back VGM tracks from the popular to the obscure. Those with a good memory will recall Ian also joined us at MAGWest 2018. We had a fantastic time with both of our guests, and even though we like all of the shows we put out, this one might be one of our favorites already. We hope you enjoy it and all of the music as much as we do.

Hai visto cosa sei riuscita/o a fare?"

Still Not ProfessionalsTen Pleas for Today's PastorsStill Not Professionals: Ten Pleas for Today's Pastors is a celebration and extension of John Piper's Brothers, We Are Not Professionals. With two brief exhortations from Piper and eight others from veteran pastors, this short ebook aims to strengthen and challenge Christians in general, and pastors in particular, for the labor of everyday life and ministry. The contributors were asked to express their “heart of hearts” for fellow leaders. You'll find these chapters tap into profound human themes, in both the pastor and his flock, and will be of use, we hope, beyond the North American context of the contributors.by John Piper Modal , Daniel L. And that is what we want to be: body of Christ, chosen race, royal priesthood, holy nation, people of God's own possession, temple of the Holy Spirit, household of God, saints, called,Way, bride of Christ, and more. It is not helpful to aim at being a “professional” bride.Where the Quest BeginsSo when I renounce the pursuit of professionalism, does that 6Still Not Professionals Ten Pleas for Today's Pastorsmean I don't aspire to excellence? No. But I do start my quest for excellence with the quest for excellent forgiveness. Excel- lent mercy. Excellent patience. Excellent kindness. Excellent humility. Excellent self-control. Excellent gospel-walking (Galatians 2:14).That's what Paul had in mind when he told us to imitate the infinitely excellent God. “Be imitators of God... And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us” (Ephesians 5:1–2). I don't know if Jesus could sing on key, or if his tunic was wrinkle-free, but I do know his capacities for returning good for evil were beautiful beyond words. The radical quest for that excellence is where we begin. The Quest BroadensThen Paul broadens the quest: “Whatever is honorable, what- ever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (Philippians 4:8). So after our hearts undergo a gospel renovation, the next room for refurbishing is our mind: Think on these excellent things. Fill your mind with excellence. Beauty. Justice. Purity. Honor. Then the next thing out of Paul's mouth is this: “What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things” (Philippians 4:9). So the gospel-renovated heart and the excellence-refurbished mind both “practice these things.” It matters how things are done. At home. At church. Everywhere. We “practice” excellence. 7Still Not Professionals Ten Pleas for Today's PastorsSeasoned with MissionSo do we build magnificent buildings? Maybe. But not many. The priority put on opulence in the Old Testament palace and temple was owing to an era of “come-see-religion.” Like the Queen of Sheba who came to Israel and was breathless at Solo- mon's wealth (1 Kings 10:5).But the New Testament has none of that emphasis on opu- lence, because it is a “go-tell-religion.” The mission impulse dominates the domestic impulse. We are sojourners. We are sent.“Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics” (Luke 9:3). This saying is not normative for all mission, but it does flavor everything. So the quest for excellence is always seasoned by a mission- oriented mentality, with a bent toward simplicity. It's a bent, not an absolute. There may be a place for a cathedral here and there. But the people of God won't lean toward living in pal- aces. And the vast work of the kingdom will happen mainly in the rugged outposts.Undistracting ExcellenceBut what about the way we do things? What about music, for example? We recall the psalmist saying, “Splendor and maj- esty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary” (Psalm 96:6). “Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings” (Psalm 33:3). Beautifully. Skillfully. Does that mean professionally? In all my years of pastoral ministry, I have never prayed that worship be done professionally. The category we have found most helpful is “undistract- ing excellence.” The adjective “undistracting” means that the 8Still Not Professionals Ten Pleas for Today's Pastorsquality of an act must help, rather than hinder, the spiritual aims of the ministry. Lead worshipers aim by the power of God's Spirit (1 Peter 4:11) to awaken the mind's attention and the heart's affections to the truth and beauty of God and the gospel. The kind of singing and playing that helps this happen is not well described as “professional.”Seeking a MiracleBut “undistracting excellence” helps us get at the issue. It reminds us that people are distracted not only by shoddy music, but also by the flare of musical finesse. Corporate worship is not a recital. The sanctuary is no orchestra hall. The shouted“Bravissimo!” for a virtuoso performance (which may be total- ly appropriate at the concert hall) has the opposite focus from what we are seeking on Sunday morning. We are seeking the miracle of communion with God.The same applies to preaching. On the one hand, elders are to be “apt to teach” (1 Timothy 3:2). Gifted. Able. Skilled. Effec- tive. On the other hand, there is a kind of smooth, effortless oratory, and a kind of cool, clever, hip, and even studied casual- ness that can be just as distracting from the presence of God as the self-conscious awkwardness of the nervous beginner.Spiritual Does Not Mean ShoddyUndistracting excellence means that content, language, tone, gesture, and demeanor will all serve the spiritual aims of the message: the quickening of the dead and the build- ing up of faith in the saints by the power of God. There is no 9Still Not Professionals Ten Pleas for Today's Pastorsprofessional raising of the dead. And no professional building of the temple of the soul. Therefore, brothers, we are (still) not professionals. Our aims are supernatural. Therefore, our means are stirred and shaped by the Spirit of God. The excellence we seek serves a spir- itual communion with God. It is undistracting. But spiritual does not mean shoddy. And supernatural does not mean stupid.
