Empowering young people and changing lives David is part of an organisation called P4YE which is run by four friends tired of talking about the challenges that some of our Youth are facing, so they decided to do something about it. P4YE work closely with the police and statutory bodies as the bridge between the authorities and the young people and families they engage with. David also engages and speaks to young people in their language which is a massive facet of building a bond and trust. His approach is that one size does not fit all and this is why they create bespoke services for each of the young people they work with. David is passionate about building a better community. During COVID David and the team have been delivering food parcels within the community making sure the vulnerable and the homeless are looked after during these difficult times. The organisation has featured on BBC London Radio, LBC and the Croydon Guardian. During these hard times David and his team continue to mentor and support young people and their families by delivering online workshops that help to empower them. https://www.p4ye.co.uk/ https://www.facebook.com/project4youthempowerment

Being single, childless, navigating online dating, face yoga, threesomes, fear of another recession, losing parents and dealing with grief alone – we go everywhere and believe it or not, manage to laugh our way through a chunk of it! So This episode comes off the back of one of your suggestions earlier in the year about living an alternative life, not getting married or having children – so I invited an old friend and colleague of mine, journalist Bibi Lynch on as she regularly writes about this in magazines and newspapers …. We actually cover a huge amount of ground, she talks about how the recession in 2008 wrecked her life, the early loss of parents, how she’s not had the chance to have children, she's had abusive neighbours, a real 10 year slog  …and then the pandemic hits and how you deal with all these things when you’re on your own – we talk a lot about being single and how society still doesn’t make space for the 25% of women who will never have children, we talk about online dating, face yoga, we talk about the concerns of what life is going to look on the other side of all this and we somehow find ourselves talking about sex and threesomes too … Journalist Bibi Lynch has been called one of the funniest women on twitter, she’s often controversial and never fails to make you think. We first met when working together at BBC London Radio just over 10 years ago, she currently hosts 2 radio shows, one for Soho Radio and the other for BBC Sussex, she also hosts a podcast called Good Sex Bad Sex, she writes for the likes of The Telegraph, The Guardian and Stella, over the years has been columnist to various magazines such as Marie Claire and Elle, she’s co-wrote various TV shows, hosts monthly panels at The Groucho Club – she’s unstoppable! The importance of being kind to each other isn’t just a notion, it’s a necessity – we don’t know what is going on in each other’s lives, we don’t know what wounds are being carried or battles are being played out I think we’ve seen with the “black lives matter” movement, even with “me too” a couple of years ago, that it’s easy to turn and look the other way when we feel uncomfortable or that we don’t understand but I really hope that we are learning that when we do that, we increase the pain being suffered and if we can be brave enough to allow one another’s pain to come into the light, it might just get the chance to heal so that they can move on One of the things that I really hope for our new normal, is that we begin to make way for each other more, where we become better at listening, where we become more open to hear and slower to judge. In this episode I am joined by the incredible Sarah Greene who shares her life affirming wisdom and compassion about love, loss and survival. Sarah Greene is an award-winning presenter and actress who has hosted and starred in iconic British TV shows ranging from Blue Peter, Going Live and Holiday to‪ Ghostwatch ‬and Dr Who. Sarah positively excels in a live tv environment and has interviewed everyone from Margaret Thatcher to Cher over her illustrious career. Starting out as an actress, Sarah was hand-picked by Blue Peter’s legendary editor, Biddy Baxter, to become it’s youngest ever presenter. Whilst Sarah was working on the show, it picked up the BAFTA for best children’s programme. Moving on from Blue Peter, Sarah presented Saturday Superstore, followed by Going Live! which she co-presented with Phillip Schofield. Both shows dominated the ratings and that popularity was very much down to Sarah’s great chemistry on screen, both with her co-presenters and her natural ability to interview guests, whilst also working with the likes of Gordon the Gopher! Moving across into primetime proved effortless for Sarah and she has presented and co-produced hundreds of successful shows including Posh Frocks and New Trousers, Hospital Watch, Holiday and programmes across the Food Network Channel. Along the way Sarah also anchored the London Monring Breakfast Show on BBC London Radio – solo hosting a live three hour phone-in show with the listeners discussing the daily news. Sarah’s skills at mediating, chairing & presenting events have also seen her hosting many awards shows and corporate evenings throughout her career, working for companies such asNestlé, Mars, Standard Life and the Government's Green Initiative to name but a few. I know I will never be the same again after having had this chat with Sarah. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Imagine what would be possible if you could talk in a way that connects with people's emotions and mobilizes them to action.  Or craft stories that give meaning and illustrate what your team or your organization is truly about. Imagine what it would feel like to pitch your products or services at a 100% win rate... In this episode of CultureLab, we host an award-winning communication expert and speechwriter, Richard Newman who shares incredibly useful tips on how to do all of the above - and more! Communication and storytelling play a huge role in shaping cultures. In his book, “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind”, Yuval Noah Harrari makes a compelling case for storytelling and myths being the key factors for homo sapiens dominating our planet. He argues that stories and myths were the main enablers of civilisation as we know it. Without them, we would still live the life of our early ancestors, hunters and gatherers, struggling for survival in the world where homo sapiens was just a marginal creature.  Organisational myths and stories are no different. They serve as the collective memory and are one of the main tools to shape organisational culture. So, do we really know how to use this powerful tool and make the desired impact on our co-workers and our work environment?  Richard Newman and I talk about how to improve the impact of our words and our stories.    About the guest Richard Newman is an award-winning expert in communication, storytelling and influence.  He recently won the most coveted award in speech-writing, the Cicero Grand Prize Award for being the Best International Speechwriter, selected by a committee in Washington DC. His team has given coaching to 50,000 people, across 45 countries, including CEOS and leadership teams.  His clients include Expedia, EE, AXA, Capgemini, Microsoft and 3M. He is regularly featured on BBC London Radio and TV, discussing the communication styles of leaders.  Richard is a guest speaker at London Business School, where he teaches the MBA students. Last year his team helped one client win over £1.2 billion in new business by improving the way they communicate, winning 100% of the work they bid for.  You can learn more about Richard at: http://www.ukbodytalk.com/   Books mentioned on the show: Daniel Kahneman, “Thinking, Fast and Slow “ Simon Sinek, “Start with Why” Robert McKee, “Storynomics”   Quotes from this episode: “Many great ideas fail simply because they are poorly communicated” - Richard Newman Tweet this quote: https://ctt.ec/35aM4 “When leaders are thinking of changing culture, it’s got to be on the emotional side of things. You’ve got to make sure that you win the emotion of the people involved.” - Richard Newman Tweet this quote: https://ctt.ec/L36qf Too busy to be on the lookout for new episodes of CultureLab?
