BRITISH PROG ROCK GROUP ‘PURE REASON REVOLUTION' ANNOUNCE THEIR NEW ALBUM ‘COMING UP TO CONSCIOUSNESS' AND NEW SINGLE “DIG TILL YOU DIE” ZOOM SPECIAL EVENT WITH FOUNDER/SINGER/SONGWRITER/KEYBOARDIST/ JON COURTNEY ON INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. PURE REASON REVOLUTION is a British Rock group formed at Westminster University in 2003. Trying to fit PRR into a specific genre would be a difficult task, which is one of their attractive qualities. The group is set to release their sixth studio album Coming Up To Consciousness via InsideOutMusic. Their new to-be-released album will be out on September 6th. The album feature's themes of betrayal, deception, fear, grief, mortality, and questions of sanity. Legendary musician Guy Pratt, known for working with the likes of Pink Floyd played the bass guitar on seven of the eight tracks on Pure Reason Revolution's new album. The band tells fans to expect more ambitious bass lines in Coming Up To Consciousness than they've heard in any previous Pure Reason Revolution albums. The band was equally thrilled to work with multiple members of prog icon The Pineapple Thief; the record was mixed by Bruce Soord and mastered by Steve Kitch.  Jon Courtney comments: “Spawned from the bereavement after my dog was put down, a numb & dry creative spell ensued, but after a meeting with my writer friend Craig Walker (Archive/Power of Dreams) & sharing how the last months had been, he urged me to get this experience down in lyrics & music. Suddenly the album flew out of me/us! In terms of the recording process, this album was probably the most enjoyable to make, with the various collaborations firing creativity. HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersAfter sixteen albums and rising, you would think Bruce Soord from The Pineapple Thief would know pretty well what he is doing with himself and the band musically.Essentially a rock outfit, The Pineapple Thief have released a consistently steady stream of albums, amassing a staunch, loyal and growing fan base with each one.Their place in rock history is assured, but despite having done the hard yards already, Soord refuses to rest on his laurels. As a songwriter he can lay claim to being amongst the best in the business but with the band's recent album It Leads To This, Soord has managed to tap into a delicate nuance of material and compile it in such a way that what would generally be a depressive and seemingly hopeless landscape has been transformed into a bright and optimistic take of life itself. The basic premise for It Leads To This has Soord reflecting on the world and fearing for the life his children will inherit, but at its core is an introspective look at life and each of our roles within it.Soord sat down for a chat with HEAVY to tell us more."It's been good," he enthused at the early reception for the album. "You know what it's like, you can't hide from the reaction these days on social media, so you get to see everything. It's been really positive, thank goodness for that, because the internet and online can be quite brutal sometimes."We ask Soord to dive deeper into the concept of the album."I've always written about things that…," he measured. "…I wake up in the morning and how I feel. You put the news on and look out the window - I live in a small town in the South West of England that has its fair share of problems like drugs and alcohol - so you look out the window, and you see it. You see these lost souls walking around. You read the news, and it's just getting worse and worse then you look at the kids and my kids are a lens to the world. I think, 'oh shit, what's going on?' and then you pick up a guitar and that's the inspiration. But the thing about it is, even though it's all dark thoughts about the future and what the Hell are my kids going to inherit, it's still positive. There's still a positive message. It's not all doom and gloom."In the full interview, Bruce talks more about the idea behind the album, how he puts a positive spin on it, if the personal nature of the subject matter made it a difficult album to write, runs us through each track individually and the message behind it, talks touring plans and more.

HEAVY Music Interviews
THE PINEAPPLE THIEF To Release Stunning Live Album

HEAVY Music Interviews

What does one of the most creative bands of the century so far do when forced into lockdown?Plan ways on how to release more music, of course. So was the case with European rock outfit The Pineapple Thief – a band that has released 13 studio albums, 7 live, 2 compilations and 5 E,P's in a career spanning just 22 years – when they were forced into hibernation shortly after releasing their latest albumVersions Of The Truth in late 2020.The band decided if they couldn't play to their fans in a live environment then they would play to them in a more controlled environment and stream the process and result for all to see.Out of that idea came the successful Nothing but The Truth, a pre-recorded streamed event that more resembled a cinematic experience such was the grand planning and design. With the world slowly starting to return to some semblance of normality, The Pineapple Thief have decided to release the concert on disk, Blu Ray and DVD, capturing their popular and exhilarating performance and making it available the world over.Founding member Bruce Soord joined HEAVYT during the week to talk about the album and pretty much whatever else took his fancy."Where do I start?” he replied when asked to give us a rundown of the release. “We released our last studio album about a year ago, Versions Of The Truth, and that was in the depths of lockdown over here in England so we couldn't tour. We all got together and said what are we gonna do? When a band releases an album the actual thing to do is go on the road and tour it. So we thought right, we have to do something. We decided to a live... well it's a stream - we prerecorded it - and we had to make it really nice and the production really good and we got the big camera crew in. It was pretty high stakes really, because you know it was lockdown and we had to prove that we had to travel for work and we had to take tests and all that kind of stuff and we met up on the day and thought is this going to work, how's it gonna look? We put all our trust in our cameraman and director of music who did all our videos - we knew he was great, but we were still thinking how's this gonna turn out? At the time we were pretty anxious, and we only had one shot at it because it was pretty expensive but obviously it turned out well and everyone really loved it thankfully so we can look back on it now and laugh but at the time... it was strange times. It was strange and it was stressful because of the situation we were in and double stressed because we only had one shot to nail it."In the full interview Bruce runs us through the song selection including a number the band hadn't played live before, revisiting old tunes years later and the nostalgia involved, the early vision for The Pineapple Thief and how it has changed over the years, their sound and those who try to define it, their phenomenal output of music, future plans and more.

Better known as frontman for The Pineapple Thief, Bruce Soord has recently released his second solo album, All This Will Be Yours. It is a deeply personal record lyrically, featuring more raw emotion and stripped back guitars than fans are accustomed too with the full band."It's difficult..." he stammered when trying to explain the album musically. "Obviously The Pineapple Thief have been my musical life for so long and then the label asked me to do a solo record. The big thing is, with The Pineapple Thief I write all the songs with my drummer Gavin Harrison so it all goes off in different directions, whereas with the solo album I locked myself in my studio for four months knowing I had to do it on my own with no-one to talk to or bounce things off and see where it went. I knew that I wanted it to be a personal record - it's about my town and the birth of my daughter - so I took all of that into my soul and made this record. It's quite dark and also quite soft in places and also has electronics in parts. Basically, I just let go and went with it".In the full interview Bruce talks more about All This Will Be Yours, why he went acoustic in parts, the personal nature of the lyrics, how it differs from his debut self titled solo record, what makes a musician want to go solo after being in a band, what different things he gets musically from each, future plans and more.

"What I usually sing about is what I'm going through personally and my relationships with people I'm around" explained Bruce Soord, vocalist for Somerset's The Pineapple Thief, "all the experiences that I go through with people I'm with except this time there was an underlying sort of theme which is the growth of social media and how connected we all are. The last couple of years - I don't know what it's like in Australia - but here there's been a real reaction against it. People realize finally that it's making people unhappy and now people are turning away from it and turning off because it's made things worse. The word 'Dissolution', that was perfect. That sums up what I think we should do. We should dissolve all of this and start again. I didn't want to preach - I'm not saying that we should just smash our phones up and people should delete their Facebook account because it can be really good. It's just that with the people I know it's gone a bit too far and made things a lot worse."In the full interview Bruce discusses the upcoming album, what to expect musically, the difference King Crimson drummer Gavin Harrison has made to the band, his early days as a solo performer through to the eventual decision to turn The Pineapple Thief into a functional touring band, the real story behind the title of their debut album 'Abducting the Unicorn' and more.'Dissolution' is released August 31
