With Amanda Clayman | Financial Therapist | Podcaster | Summary: Amanda Clayman discusses her podcast, Emotional Investment, focusing on normalizing conversations about money and emotions. She highlights the intimacy of podcasting and the importance of embracing the messiness of our financial lives. Clayman addresses societal expectations around money, the conflicts they create in relationships, and how shame can prevent financial progress. She emphasizes vulnerability, open communication, and integrating different perspectives in couples' financial relationships. Money, she suggests, is a path to deeper self-awareness. Clayman shares her journey with money-related anxieties and stresses the importance of resilience in navigating financial challenges. She closes with advice for future generations on building a healthy relationship with money. BIO: Amanda Clayman is widely recognized as a leader in the field of financial therapy. Her approach as a clinician is to decode how thoughts, feelings, and associations shape our financial choices, and identify how those patterns both serve and limit us. Her consulting clients and public speaking audiences have included numerous corporations, non-profit organizations, and financial services firms including SoFi, New York Foundation for the Arts, Barnard College, and the Financial Therapy Association Conference. She is a LinkedIn Learning (Lynda.com) author of several financial wellness courses, and the financial wellness expert for SheKnows media, where she writes a financial therapy advice column. Her work has been featured in such media outlets as CNBC, Fox News, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, REAL SIMPLE, and Forbes. Quotes: "The messiness of money is a feature. We need to learn to engage with the complexities, contradictions, and discomfort that activate our brain and body." Takeaways: We need to shift our perspective on financial distress and embrace the messiness of our financial lives. Societal expectations around money can create conflicts in relationships, and it's important to have open and constructive conversations about these differences. Shame often prevents us from addressing our financial behaviours, and acceptance and curiosity are key to overcoming shame and making positive changes. No one is completely balanced or perfect when it comes to money, and it's important to embrace our imperfections and work towards a healthier relationship with money. Vulnerability and acceptance are crucial in couples' financial relationships. Money serves as a portal to deeper self-awareness and personal growth. Resilience and flexibility are key in navigating financial challenges. Building a healthy relationship with money requires ongoing self-reflection and self-trust. Tangazo - a Podcast from KDHX, episode 167 covers a lot of ground while taking a look at Vice President Kamala Harris and her chance to make more history by winning the November presidential election. ——  The 1pm discussion was especially invigorating, with Tangazo commentators Michael Wesley Jones, of the StLouis American Newspaper, political consultant Tim Person and old friend Kyria Virshelle, who's energy and enthusiasm for VP Kamala Harris's ascension to the top of Democratic ticket, with the  chance to become the first woman, President of the United States. Tangazo.kdhx.org  Former Tallahassee Mayor Dorothy Inman-Johnson, was also bubbling with excitement and confidence that Vice President Kamala Harris, was the right choice to defeat former President Donald J Trump, in November. ----- Throw in a couple of comments from listeners and the second hour was a fast paced, in-depth, continuation of the excitement created by President Biden's decision, to pass the torch to his VP Kamala Harris, by withdrawing from the 2024 presidential election. —— In the first hour we focused on the Israeli war with Hamas, from a local Jewish perspective, with former ADL StLouis Chapter President Howard Loiterstein and Stuart Clayman, a leader in the StLouis and Missouri, Jewish community. Clayman is a longtime volunteer for the StLouis City Academy and has recently returned from a month long visit in Israel, where he tutored young Jewish refugees in math. ———- We also discussed the Jewish community's support for StLouis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell's bid to unseat, first district Congresswoman Cori Bush, who has alienated the Jewish community, by her continued attacks on Israel and support for Palestinians. Also  her unwillingness to meet with Jewish community leaders, to discuss their concerns has the Jewish community committed to replacing her, with Bell. —— Comments from our listeners also contributed to this discussion. Tangazo episode 167, has something for everyone, whether you agree or disagree with points of these discussions, you will enjoy hearing this show. ——

Daniel Clayman: Capturing Light in Cast Glass Sculpture and Large-Scale Installations

Talking Out Your Glass podcast

Some might say that Daniel Clayman is more a sculptor using glass as his primary material than a glass artist. That is to say his sculptures would be successful from a formal point of view no matter what material they were created in. With one major exception: the play of light in Clayman's glass art enhances the objects dramatically in comparison with how they might appear in a solid, non-translucent medium. Born in 1957 in Lynn, Massachusetts, Clayman planned a career as a theater lighting designer, studying in the theater and dance departments at Connecticut College, eventually dropping out of college to work in the professional theater, dance and opera world. A chance class in 1980 introduced the artist to using glass as a sculptural material. In 1986, he received his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and has maintained a studio in East Providence, Rhode Island since then. Clayman's interests in engineering, the behavior of light, and the memory of experience, act as an impetus for much of his work. Having turned his attention to large-scale installations, he employs technology from the simplest hand tool to the latest three-dimensional modeling and production tools. Recent public projects include Rainfield, Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Media Center Atrium, exhibition dates: January 23, 2017 – January 23, 2018; and Radiant Landscape, Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton Township, New Jersey, exhibition dates: May 7, 2017 – February 28, 2018. Clayman is the recipient of several grants and awards and has had numerous one-person shows throughout the country to include the Tacoma Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts. Works in glass sculpture by the artist can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Art in San Francisco, The Museum of Art and Design in New York, the Corning Museum of Glass, the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Art in Boston and the Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of American Art of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.  An artist/educator, Clayman has taught in Japan, Israel and Australia in addition to a robust teaching schedule here in the U.S. He has been a Visiting Critic at the Rhode Island School of Design and Artist in Residence at Tyler School of Art and Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He lectures frequently and teaches workshops at Penland School of Crafts, Pilchuck and The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass, among others. In 2018, Clayman became the first endowed chair of glass at University of the Arts, Philadelphia.  Clayman states: “While I moved away from a professional career pursuit in lighting design, I have never turned away from my observations of light. Using glass as my primary sculptural material, I have spent the last 20 years developing a vocabulary of forms which describe volumes of light. Over the past four years, my studio work has centered around the creation of large-scale glass castings that thematically reference the capturing of light. One of the many mysteries of light is that it refuses to reveal any of its essence until it happens to reflect on something other than itself. For instance, the headlight of a car projects (reflects) light onto objects as the viewer approaches, but not until there is a foggy mist in the air does one see the shape and arc of the beam.”

Since 1968, Black Studies departments have been established across the country, contributing to the intellectual life of the university and informing larger conversations about race beyond the academy. However, departmentalization eludes many universities, including Stanford. In this Clayman Conversations event, our panelists Eddie S. Glaude, Jr., Kimberly Thomas McNair, Aileen K. Robinson, and Fabio Rojas, will discuss how departmentalization is both a political and feminist issue, and how the university legitimates certain knowledge through departmentalization. Additionally, our panelists will consider the symbiotic relationship between social movement participants and institutions of higher education.

The figure of the “TERF” (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist) has emerged as one of the more puzzling flashpoints in recent culture wars on campus and in the media. Why have trans lives and identities become a politically potent rallying cry for people who seem not to care very much for trans people? In this conversation with scholars Marquis Bey, Grace Lavery, and Jules Gill-Peterson, we explore the outsize influence TERFs wield in the media, what their influence means for feminism, and why their position occupies a unique and troubling place in the current discourse around free speech and “cancel culture.”"

Is the demand for free and open debate online really as neutral as it often presents itself? How are dominant power structures replicated or challenged in online debate culture? As with all Clayman Conversations, the panelists will consider dimensions of race, class, gender and sexuality in untangling this timely issue.

My Life In The Midst Of A Manhunt - Navigating Armageddon

The Safety Doc Podcast

David gives a vibrant inside-perspective of how he was literally at the center of what has unfolded into one of the largest manhunts in the Midwest. Admittedly, the first step is to consider the campus unsecure until we've walked the grounds, pulled each door handle, and then do it all over again. I'm fortunate to work with a leader that “gets” environmental security. JANESVILLE (Wis) MANHUNT. Officers are looking for a Joseph A. Jakubowski, a 32-year-old man who's considered armed and dangerous said he sent a 161-page manifesto to President Trump. Jakubowski is wanted in connection with the theft of guns from the Armageddon gun and ammo shop. A car registered to Jakubowski was found burned nearby, and he's suspected in the arson, officials said. A quick review of the Wisconsin Circuit Court online records search reveals that Joseph Jakubowski has been charged or ticketed 32 times since 2001. The sheriff's office said it learned Thursday that he had made threats to steal weapons and use them against public officials or at an unspecified school. However, it was now mid-morning, and most school shooting occur at the start of the school day. This was favorable news for area schools, many which were in lockdown or had cancelled outdoor events. AFFIRMATION-SEEKING. A February, 2013 article titled: The Final Word: Why Killers Write Manifestos, Marc Lallanilla of Live Science Contributor wrote: "All of these people think they've been wronged," said David A. Clayman, Ph.D., a clinical and forensic psychologist. "These people collect wrongs and they seek out affirmation of their righteousness," said Clayman. "They saw the world as against them. The common theme is a grudge." Look for this in Joseph Jakubowski. He even had a friend film him applying postage stamps to his manifesto and depositing it to the mail receptacle – not to mention a recent YouTube rant referenced, but removed from public view. LINGERING QUESTIONS. As this manhunt drags on, people will ease their guards. You won't hear people asking about targets as it seems that this man had opportunities and didn't act upon them. Perhaps he really wanted to be heard. Still this probably won't end well. An armed and dangerous man is being pursued. He has a history of no regard for authority, is a loner, and certainly realizes that capture means living out his years in prison. ADVICE. I urge you to be aware of your environment and changes in your environment. Just because a threat now seems dissipated or distant doesn't mean that a police pursuit won't bring the chaos to your street. Also, harden your own targets by locking doors and leaving lights on at night until this matter has been resolved. FORMATS.
