2019 terrorist attacks in New Zealand

The Chairman of Federation of Islamic Associations says the Coronial inquest into March 15 is not the time for political posturing. Winston Peters is refusing to apologise for falsely tweeting that Kiwis only just found out about the terrorist's pre-attack email to the Beehive. It was revealed at a press conference the next day. Abdur Razzaq Khan says it was also in the Royal Commission's report, which he says shows Peters didn't read it. "And to come out after so many years now, on the day when people are trying to find out what actually happened to their loved ones- I thought that was very insensitive." Growing calls for Winston Peters to apologise for his incorrect claims about the March 15 terror attacks. Peters said New Zealand only recently found out that the Prime Minister's office received information about the attack before it happened. But then-Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern revealed at the time her office had received the killer's manifesto. ZB political editor Jason Walls says Peters has tried to appeal to the nation's fringe groups before- but it's perplexing as to why he's making these false claims now. On 15 March 2019 a man entered the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand and shot Temel Atacocugu nine times. That day 51 people were killed, but Temel survived. Reporter Charlotte Graham-McLay follows Temel’s journey – through surgeries, the terrorist’s sentencing and a royal commission – as he tries to recover and rebuild his life.
Over four days in the Christchurch high court, survivors of the 2019 mosque shootings and the families of victims stood up and faced the Australian gunman. In this episode of Full Story, we hear their statements, as Charlotte Graham-Mclay takes us inside the proceedings.

Mass shootings are rare, but these heineous crimes have become a magnet for global media attention. There are growing concerns the detailed coverage is leading to copycat and contagion killings. Recent research also shows a disturbing trend where shooters seek to publicise their beliefs and intentions through media platforms in an effort to gain notoriety and infamy. In this episode, David speaks with journalist and Curtin University academic, Glynn Greensmith, who is currently researching the ways in which the media handles the reporting of mass shootings.Mr Greensmith is a lecturer in the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry. How will New Zealand stop white supremacy ideology being broadcast from the dock when the man accused of the Christchurch mosque shooting is put on trial?
In this episode we are joined by Zaahir Edries, former President of the Muslim Legal Network NSW, to discuss the broadening of police powers, erosion of civil liberties and diminishing human rights under the name of counter-terrorism. In the wake of the Christchurch Shootings, we consider how Islamophobia has been enshrined in Australia’s public policies over two decades to prime the conditions for terror attacks by white supremacists. With the Othering of Muslim communities in the media and a lack of vilification protections, we discuss the complicity of Australian governments in social exclusion.

New Zealand acted fast after the infamous shooting in Christchurch. Aside from changes in the gun laws it also censored the manifest and the video the shooter distributed and even criminalised the possession and distribution. Is that really legitimate or is it an unbalanced act of censorship?
In this, the first episode, I look at the recent Christchurch shootings. Including what happened, the police response and the terrorist behind the attack.

In this episode of NL Hafta, Abhinandan Sekhri, Raman Kirpal and Anand Vardhan are joined by journalist Maya Mirchandani. The discussion kicks off with Amit Shah getting Lok Sabha elections ticket from LK Advani’s constituency, Gandhinagar. The panel also discusses Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s role in the current political scenario. Maya says, “Priyanka Gandhi is great optics for Congress.” The panellists agree that she is creating enough ripples as a new leader and is making BJP nervous. However, Raman differs, “Congress seeking an alliance is openly declaring that they have reduced to a regional party.”Moving forward Abhinandan and Maya appreciate the Election Commission's idea of increasing the transparency by asking for details of commutation of politicians via personal choppers and chartered flights. Talking about elections and parties, the panel also talks about Shah Faesal’s new political party, J&K Peoples' Movement. While Abhinandan is skeptical about the party's success, Maya also agrees that the party has no clear agenda. Raman adds, “As the polling percentage is low in J&K, so at this point, it might be a gamechanger.”The panel also talks about the ardent and strong leadership of New Zealand’s PM Jacinda Ardern, who imposed an immediate ban on all military-style semi-automatic weapons, assault rifles and stood in complete solidarity with the community. Raman says, “Its an example of how to handle a crisis." The panelists agree in unison that if she wouldn’t have called the incident a terror attack, nobody would have stood up.The panel also discusses Shashi Tharoor's defamation case against the derogatory remarks of Ravi Shankar Prasad in the Samjhauta Express verdict. Who's responsible when a massacre is streamed on Facebook Live? When the media clip it up for broadcast? When people share it? When hate groups have been quietly bubbling up in corners of the internet? This week on DTS: the terrorist attack in Christchurch has raised many questions: about us, the internet and about responsibility. What role does technology and media have in making sure this never happens again? Roger Bolton asks the BBC News Editorial Director if the BBC should have termed events in Christchurch "terrorism", PM editor Owenna Griffiths discusses coverage of Brexit, and listeners give their views on cuts to Radio 3's Late Junction. Recent BBC coverage of the Christchurch attack in New Zealand has sparked criticism from some listeners who take issue with the language used to describe the events. Others were frustrated by what they saw as disproportionate coverage and still more were annoyed when the BBC chose to name the alleged shooter in news bulletins. Roger puts these comments to the BBC News Editorial Director, Kamal Ahmed, and asks whether the BBC should have termed the atrocity a "terrorist attack". For 20 years, Late Junction has been the home for experimental music on Radio 3. However, it's being reduced from three nights a week to one extended show on Friday nights. Late Junction listeners call on Radio 3's Controller to reverse the decision. And, has Brexit begun to exhaust journalists and audiences alike? Owenna Griffiths, Editor of Radio 4's PM, tells Roger what she thinks she could be doing better and explains what she sees as her programme's unique role in approaching the story. A tribute piece for the Christchurch shooting 1 week on
"Words count, and the words of leaders count very much, and this man has become the leader, the representation, of white supremacy."A mass shooting at a New Zealand mosque has left 50 dead and reignited debate globally around Islamophobia and race-baiting language used by many politicians, especially Donald Trump. The shooting also came just days after Trump had hinted at the possibility of using violence involving the military, police and bikers against political opponents, and he's spent the rest of the week alternating between denials and flights of Twitter rage. Also talking Midwestern flooding, Syria, 2020, and the Mueller report - where is it?
Why has it taken the sound of bullets fired and the sight of blood spilled to get some to see Muslims as fully human, as capable of placing demands on our attention or claims for our respect?

[YouTube Video Version: https://youtu.be/x-oZ_6P6M6M] There have been a significant number of outstanding anomalies with this recent shooting at the Christchurch Mosque in New Zealand. We're joined by Laurie Alexander of The Underground Resistance Networkto talk about a handful of them. What's even more astounding is this apparent manifesto the shooter has left, it rivals that of Theodore Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber. Rantings and ramblings of White Genocide, the birthrates, environmentalism and more filled the 70+ page document, detailing his motives and message. This is exactly what happens when you give radicalized and intelligent people attention, they're calculated and manipulative in their execution. While Laurie begins to detail some of the self-described Eco-Facist's ties to Nazi's Black Sun, we begin to get a larger understanding of why this attack was allowed to receive the coverage it did. Strangely enough, we go the entire transmission not mentioning the terrorists name, because that's what they want; recognition. Attacks such as these aren't carried out by one person, I think that's something that needs to be highlighted, and recent information has come out about the possibility of two shooters and multiple IED (improvised explosive devices) being attached to cars. This coordinated attack was designed to inflict massive domestic damage, as well as political change.

After the terrible event that took part in Christchurch, New Zealand, I have been getting messages from people from different parts of North America asking me questions about how safe it is to live in certain nations, particularly Taiwan. These messages are from people who are citizens in North America and who are thinking about moving abroad to pursue their aspirations. A few, and I’m not surprised, have admitted that they are hoping to do so because they feel uncertain about their security in their own home nation. I found myself unable to articulate or formulate catch all phrases that would allow them to feel that living or at the very least traveling overseas can bring more of a positive experience. Of course, this can only happen if people allow themselves to integrate and accept parts of the culture they’ll be living in. To share and get some personal insight on what took place in Christchurch, I called up a friend from New Zealand who is living in Taiwan for an impromptu interview to get his insights on the event that took place in his home nation. This friend was gracious enough to talk to me without hesitation via his cell phone and I thank him very much for taking the time out of his day to chat with me. I maintain resolute in my determination to prove that people have a lot more in common than they think. Social Media Links Facebook: Sean Kaiteri THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO THIS EPISODE! We’d be shocked if mainstream media and politicians sprouted fundamentalist Islamic extremism. In Britain, a few right-wing nut jobs might be given a little media exposure, but in Australia they are given prime time TV shows. More shocking is how a Queensland politician used the atrocity as an opportunity to quote a passage from the bible to justify the actions of the shooters. How has society got so much wrong. The political process has to take part of the blame – the UK needs to avoid a voting system like Australia if we are to avoid seeing extremists like this sitting in the House.

This evening on Friday Night Live, Hafiz Sha'ban takes the hotseat to discuss the Christchurch shootings as 49 pronounced dead in the recent New Zealand mosque attacks.
