Go ahead and channel that inner beast (oh you know it's in you!) and wake up that Primal Movement through Animal Flow - Meooooooowwwww... Do you ever watch the "Discovery" or "Science Channels" to watch wild animals in their most natural habitats? "The Lion stalks it's prey," and we watch as that lion lays low the ground, tracking in silence, with the beautiful/dangerous prowess that only the lion possesses. How about the antelope with it's beautiful, delicate gait? How about that snake that slithers in sensual motions? This is all animal flow, and children tend to move this way when at play. As we get older, we're less in-tune to "playing" in our most primal states, and this is where animal flow and functionability training, and it truly connects mind to body in tapping into ourselves. The mundane workouts can get stagnant, and so can our bodies with efficiency. If you're really in for a challenge to test flexibility, strength, movement, focus, and coordination, go ahead and harness those primal instincts. The exercises, which emulate types of animals, along with Primal Weapons Movements, make for some unique, challenging workouts. The entire practice of Animal Flow has 6 components: Wrist Mobilizations, Form Specific Stretches, Traveling Forms, Switches & Transitions, and the Flows...there is something for everyone. The primal movements include the 6 primal patterns of moving your body via a: push,, twist,, pull, gait, squat, and hinge. Besides animal flow, my guest today will also talk about the tradition Indian Clubbell Training and it's multiple benefits on the body. Personal Trainer, Chanon Finley, knows all about this type of functional and "rather sexy" method of moving our bodies. Incorporating Animal Flow, Clubbells, and Stick Mobility with more traditional disciplines into her training ensures that every workout will be challenging and interesting. Chanon finds that using non-traditional movement styles makes it easier to break out of the typical idea of fitness being solely about losing weight or looking a certain way. Instead, she helps her clients embrace their strengths and progress with a body positive attitude, which results in both a more empowering mindset and greater overall happiness.PERSONAL TRAINER CHANON FINLEY BIO:Chanon Finley cultivates a mindful approach to daily life and fitness. She believes that movement is settling, puts you in touch with your body, and teaches you to be more present. Her business model has three components: - Working with private clientele, creating all encompassing body and mind programs oriented to their specific fitness and lifestyle goals. - Teaching virtual small group classes, creating a vibrant, supportive atmosphere of friends and family who train together.- Making movement accessible for everyone on her Youtube Channel. Creating engaging, dynamic follow along workouts for all skill levels. Chanon is insatiably curious. We've done the very best we can with the insanity & intensity that is 2020. Do you remember when we referred to is as "The Roaring 20's" when so many NYE parties last year focused on the 20's speakeasy themes? Perhaps the 20's Prohibition Era knew something about "history repeating itself" in the commercial realm? In looking at our World today, some of the biggest issues are: Climate Crisis & Clean Energy, Education; Environmental Sustainability, Global Public Health, Human Rights, Marine/Wildlife Conservation, and Food Insecurities. Allowing us to focus-in on 2020 in the United States? Oh how about,: Voting Rights; Climate Justice; Healthcare; Refugee Crisis; Racial Injustice; Income Gap; Gun Violence; Equality; and Food Insecurity again. The Global Pandemic, not to mention everything on our own soil has been a MONSOON ON STEROIDS. Please throw in sparkles of magic from the Holidays! This monster of joy adds the stress of traveling, potential losses of loved ones, bi-partisan election resentments, over-spending, family tensions, consuming too many addictive treats...and this is all tied in a "pretty red ribbon" that is COVID-19!Even our resilient ancestors may offer us some type of sympathy in today's "climate," shall we say? Hmmmm....maybe? maybe not? On that, I try to remind myself that my own ancestors fleed Countries that not only were dangerous, but are more so today than ever before. The truth is that our ancestors & so many today have survived the unthinkable. Please remind yourself that YOU have been through tough times in the past, and yet still made it through! Please know I'm NOT downplaying anything, as this has been one of my worst times in my own life, hands-down....from a disastrous accident on a film job and pushing through COVID alone with emergency surgeries, casts on multiple limbs....fast forward to October when I lost my Queen, a.k.a. My Fabulous Grandmother? Oh no argument from this end! 2020 has been an atrocious beast.....and NOT in a good way!Remind yourself of the things you did to cope and get through your previous hard times...how did you get through the emotional ups/downs? We all have many more hardships to face, and just remember how STRONG AND RESILIENT you have truly proven to be! We are now heading into thick of the Holiday Season and have task lists, projects, and jobs that need to be completed by the end of the year, let alone Christmas Day! Try to prioritize into bite-sized pieces with due dates, add what is needed to accomplish such deadlines, divide, and conquer! Instead of being overwhelming, this will make us focus and allow for less mental stress. Some Positives that Came from Pandemic: Slowing Down and Spending Time with our Families in Quarantine, Front Line Workers, HealthCare Workers, and TEACHERS received the praise they have ALWAYS deserved, People became more active via fitness and getting outdoors, Many Companies have changed to allow for equality (Crayola making colors where children can actually represent themselves on paper), Endless Creativity from alternative Trick-orTreating and Birthday Parties allowed for great fun....and how about bringing the Ol' Drive-In-Movies back into our lives! The speed at which Pfizer & Moderna were able to create vaccines in less than a year, no matter how cautionary this may be, is still beyond impressive. Humans are smart and amazing, and let's keep pushing ourselves together, while we BEAT 2020 at it's own game. What a few things we can do these next couple of days before Christmas Day and into NYE...all while mustering a smile full of Joy & Holiday Spirit:MOVE: WE feel better mentally, when we're in better physical health. Use the "HALT" METHOD: Change up your actions if you feel Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired. Continue those health goals by FINDING TIME FOR YOURSELF, resting, and getting ample sleep to wake up refreshed the next day. (Remember, lack of sleep causes raised cortisol levels, and on to weight gain). You DESERVE your beauty "and sanity" rest. Perhaps wind down with a sappy Holiday move in the dark , while the tree is glowing in the background...and what a great time to perhaps REKINDLE the potential loss of romance with a significant other while struggling together in quarantine. If they don't take the hint, use a little mistletoe while offering a neck massage.Acknowledge Your Feelings: I have a tough time with this, as I instead like to be strong for others. On this, I remind myself that "one has to put on their own life jacket before helping others." If you're the same, I encourage you to...Reach out to others for help and express how you actually feel. Allow your friends, family, neighbors to be there for you, just as you would for them... even if just through a weekly text message! Seek professional help via therapists, support groups, and virtual events. You can remain anonymous, and not run into anyone nor leave your home, if utilizing online counseling platforms. I've also found that volunteering, donating, and adding yourself to volunteer organizations immediately lifts my spirits via helping others. The need this year is greater than ever before.Put Perfection Aside: You are trying your absolute best, with limited resources, so try to let go of "perfectionism," and don't allow anyone to judge you. Many of the usual family traditions have have to be pushed to another year, or maybe on a lesser level. Realize that we are all lucky to have one another, so remove the expectations and push through. Perhaps a child was hoping for a certain gift under the tree....maybe you weren't able to even get a tree this year? Again, avoid expectations....leading us to...Sticking to an Allocated Budget: Downsize via homemade gifts, gift exchanges, or donations in another's name. If you forget a gift while you're getting ready to see the recipient, never fear! Use the OPITS METHOD: Order Online, Pick it Up at the Store via Curbside. If it's a local store, do the old fashioned "Call Ahead, Reserve, Pick it Up" Method. When in doubt, use an inside out, clean Doritos bag, throw in a candle, and tie with a ribbon.Plan Ahead - Those task lists & watching the weather, getting certain supplies ahead, and plan for things to go wrong....what are your emergency "backups?".Learn to Say No: You can't do it all, and allowing yourself that extra time to be used elsewhere (hey! even for a massage to escape for a bit!)....don't feel guilty....feel empowered with your choices.Try not to let go of your health, fitness, nutrition goals...that extra time turning down a much-too-chatty Zoo call among friends may allow you 30 minutes of resistance training or healthy meal-prepping. Completely "throwing in the towel," will cause you to be angry and disappointed in yourself, so try to stay on track.Practice Gratitude: So many of us are so blessed, and it's very important to find gratitude each day. I'm very grateful of the wonderful people in my life, and thankful for the doctors taking care of me. Truly, I'm grateful for all the awesome people that listen to this podcast! Even if it's hard to find, maybe it's just as small as appreciating a song that came on the radio, or the laughter and eye rolls that come from watching a sappy Hallmark Movie...or laughing with your kids at "Buddy The Elf!" Know that you are surrounded by others who love you and are there to support you. I know I am.If alone for the Holidays, try to at least reach out to friends and family via phone or a Zoom/FT call to see their faces. Try to indulge yourself with a great book, movie, Chinese takeout, massage, etc. Remember that next year will surely be better.Job losses, restaurant closures, retail closures, corporate downsizing...all of these alone have affected so many and it's not a laughing matter while taking care of families and employees. However, I know some that have realized they never really loved that job anyway, and have decided to relocate to pursue other passions. There IS help out there, and there will be much more assistance to come in the future. I encourage you to remember your passions, dreams, and doing what you enjoy....simply because we all see how short life can be. This could turn into a wonderful opportunity to re-invent yourself!Despite the horror of the "Roaring 20's" that just seems to KEEP ON ROARING! (Limp Bizkit), let's not give up on ourselves, don't give up on YOURSELF, and let'e allow ourselves to WIN in 2020 because we all did the very best in the worst of times. I wish you all a Beautiful Holiday & Merry Christmas.HOST ANNE MCDANIELS LINKS:Facebook: Anne McDanielsFacebook: Anne McDaniels ActressInstagram: @annemcdanielsactressInstagram: @annemcdanielsTwitter : @annemcdanielsIMDB : Anne McDanielsMusic Credit: "Voyage By Steam"; Artist waxsocks; Creative Commons Licensing

Episode 29 of The Teaching Space Podcast explores how learners can and should use images legally in the content that they produce. Podcast Episode 29 Transcript Welcome to The Teaching Space Podcast, coming to you from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Hello, it's Martine here. Welcome to Episode 29 of The Teaching Space Podcast. Today we're talking about how to help learners use images online legally. Let's start with the why and then move onto the how. Why Is It Important? So, why is it important that we help learners use images online legally? Now, more than ever, we are asking our learners to produce content, often as evidence for assessment, and this content could easily be online. For example, things like blogs, presentations, leaflets, posters, that sort of thing. This type of content is usually enhanced by the use of images, so we should definitely be encouraging our learners to use images, but they need to use them correctly, in the same way that we teach our learners not to plagiarize. And with good reason, they need to use images in a legal way. You could argue that your school or college is a closed environment, in other words, things are not likely to get onto the actual real-life internet, but I would counter that argument with the fact that we are trying to prepare our learners for the real world, so let's set them up with good habits and good practices now. How Can We Help Our Learners? How do we go about helping our learners then? The first thing I recommend is that you lead by example. You demonstrate best practice, ensure that your resources, your presentations, your handouts all show images that are attributed correctly. Images that don't have copyright, watermarks on. Lead by example. Next, I would teach learners about image licensing and copyright as soon as is age appropriate. I really recommend getting very familiar with Creative Commons Licensing in particular. If you're looking for photography to use in presentations and other types of resources then this is definitely the way to go. Creative Commons Licensing You can read up on Creative Commons licensing on their website, Creativecommons.org/licenses, and then transmit this information to your learners. You could recommend your learners focus on using Creative Commons zero licensed images; this is like the lowest level of licensing and doesn't require users to attribute the work to the producer of the work, the photographer. I think it's great when people are getting started, however, you might want to draw your learners' attention to other licenses, those that require users of images to attribute the work to the owner. Bibliographies and Citations The reason I'm saying this is it gets them in a good habit of citing their sources, so if they're going to be moving on to writing lengthy assignments you can then start talking about bibliographies and citations, and things like that, so there's a really nice link. This will be very dependent on the type of learners you work with, but be aware that there is this range of licensing options and there are different requirements. If you get nice and familiar with them you can help your learners cite their sources appropriately. Photography Resources If you're on the lookout for some good free photography resources for teachers and trainers I've written a blog post on this very topic. The websites that I share are mostly Creative Commons zero licensed images, but always check before you use any of the images from these websites. You want to be 100% sure. You might want to get into the habit of attributing the image to the photographer anyway, even if it's not a requirement. This is you leading by example, demonstration best practice to your learners. You can find the link here. Encourage Your Learners To Produce Their Own! While I do think it's really important to spend some time explaining copyright and image licensing to your learners, there is another option, and that is for you to empower your learners to make their own images, diagrams, illustrations, whatever it is they need for the piece of work they're producing. I'm going to share some ideas with you on this topic now. Doodling If your learners need diagrams to illustrate a point they're trying to make, then actually, creating doodles can be really effective, and it can get your learners to explore their creativity. Particularly if it's in a not obviously creative subject, actually bringing in a bit of doodling, a bit of art can be a very positive thing and might help you engage with learners who aren't otherwise engaged in the subject. Electronic Tools Obviously, pen and paper are fantastic. You can, if you need to, scan them. Tidy them up using various editing tools, and then pop them into whatever it is the learner's creating, a presentation, or a handout, or whatever. Learners can also produce diagrams and doodles electronically; you can use tools like Google Drawing, Adobe Spark, or Canva. Photography Don't forget the humble digital camera, or in this day and age I guess it's your mobile device. This is dependent on the age of your learners of course. Encourage your learners to use their mobile devices to take photographs so that they can illustrate the work they are doing with their own photos. You might even get them to credit the photographs to themselves as they are indeed the photographer. Using Google Image Search Correctly Another important skill to teach your learners in terms of using images legally is to get them using Google Image search in the correct way. I've got a nice short video on my YouTube channel, which shows you how to do this. This is a video you can share with your learners and get them to look at independently. So, as well as focusing on the Creative Commons licensing stuff, using Google Image search is a great way to find pictures that could be used in student work. Buying Images My final suggestion is that you could consider buying images, but I don't know many schools and colleges that have enough budget available for this. If it is something you want to look into then I recommend Depositphotos.com. Buying photos isn't cheap. However if you're interested in Deposit Photos I have a top tip for you. Join the email list for a website called APPSUMO.com, that's A.P.P.S.U.M.O., as they often have really interesting deals on things like stock photography. I've picked up 100 credits for Depositphotos for a super cheap price on APPSUMO, so it's worth keeping an eye out. Wrap Up Okay, that's it for today's episode. I'd be really interested to hear if helping learners use images legally is something that you've struggled with in the past. Or, is it something that perhaps your colleagues need to get their heads around? If I'm being really honest I have seen quite a few teachers, often senior managers as well, delivering PowerPoint presentations or Google Slide presentations and they have included copyrighted images. I mean, there's a watermark across the entire image, and this is not good, we really can't have this going on. Do let me know what you think. I'd love to hear your experience. You can do this in The Teaching Space Staffroom which is our Facebook group. Please hop over to Facebook and find The Teaching Space Staffroom and ask to join. I would love to chat to you in there. Okay, right, that's it from me today. Thank you so much for listening, and I hope you'll tune in next time.
This week, something a bit different. The interview you'll hear on this episode is one I recorded for my other podcast project. That project is on hold, but this interview is too good and too important not to put out into the world. In this episode you'll meet Ashley. For over a year now, much of the world has been watching the United States. With Donald Trump becoming the 45th president of the United States, and an investigation being opened into his campaign shortly after his inauguration, many of us, including all of us here at Majority Villain, have been watching with a healthy mix of shock and curiosity to see what will REALLY come of the allegations of collusion with Russia. Every day, we open our preferred 'fake news' branded site to see what car accident we get to watch in slow motion today. From an outside perspective, it seems as if Robert Mueller, the former head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is producing results and untangling the interwoven threads that make up the 2016 Trump Pence campaign. To date, criminal proceedings have been initiated against 19 people. Out of the 19, five of them are United States citizens, and four of them worked for the Trump Campaign itself. Robert Mueller and his team are on a mission, and they are producing results. But, this begs the question: Who are these people that have been charged? How did they get themselves into such a predicament? Let's go ahead and start with number one. The first man to be indicted: George Papadopoulos. The man that started it all. But… I think that I may be ill equipped to launch into this by myself. I think we need a little help from some of my better known friends… The Obstruction of Justice League of America! Aggregate! (RING RING) Greg: Oh, hold on I gotta take this… Hello? Ethan: Dude, I was just listening to the intro - and uh, yeah you can’t say that. G: Oh hi Ethan. What do you mean? You’re too late. I just said it. Everybody literally just heard me do it. E: Yeah, but Stephen Colbert did this already. G: What are you talking about? E: On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert did the Justice League thing. Back in July. G: I don’t understand the words that you’re using. E: He made the same joke. G: A joke like our joke? E: The SAME joke. G: But that’s our thing. We made the Obstruction of Justice League. E: HE USED THE SAME NAME, DUDE!!!! G: What? No, that’s not possible… E: See what I mean? You gotta change it. G: Yeah, I mean, yeah. I see what you mean. I’m glad you said something before... E: Ok good. I just didn’t want to see you make an ass out of yourself or anything. G: Yeah, sure sure. Just let me, real quick. E: I’m glad we could see eye to eye on this one. It would have been a real shame if we— G: Uh, hey Ethan. E: Yeah? G: JUSTICE LEAGUE, AMALGAMATE! Trump as Lex Luthor…. As LEXALD J. LUTHOR! Join our band of heroes as they work together for good against the tyranny of treason as the Obstruction of Justice League of America!!! BACK AT THE LEGION OF DOOM’S HQ - THE HALL OF DOOM Lexald J. Luthor plans his attack on Giganta Hillary Clinton. Campaign staffer Sam Clovis sends recruit George Brainiopoulos on a secret mission to improve relations between the United States and Russia. While in his secret London lair, the Brainiopoulos is approached by Professor Joseph Mifsud - a man with known connections to Russia and Vladmirro himself. Brainiopoulos and Professor Mifsud meet on numerous occasions between mid-March, 2016 under the pretense that Russia has "dirt" on “Hilganta” from her private communications and on March 24th, Professor Mifsud is joined by Olga “The Cheetah” Polonskaya, in disguise as the beloved niece of Vladmirro. Clovis encourages Brainiopoulos to travel to Russia to meet with agents of Russia’s Foreign Ministry after learning of Hilganta secret email weakness and on return boasts of alleged intel regarding Hilganta’s feculent digital trail. BUT NOT SO FAST! The Obstruction of Justice League’s James “Martian Manhunter” Comey is keen to the rouse, and delves deeper into the doings of the Legion of Doom’s dubious developments. After numerous requests for Lexald J. Luthor to meet with Russian representatives, Brainiopoulos is told by the Toymanafort and Gorilla Gates that Lexald J. Luthor will not make the journey - but rather, a minion in his stead. Upon learning of Brainiopoulos’ ongoings - the Martian Manhunter Comey catches the scent of wrongdoing afoot and sends emissaries, spooking Brainiopoulos who in sensing the danger of his pursuers purges the records of his personal book of faces. He creates a new book in its place. Luthor, sensing the unending pressure upon him, looks to banish the Martian Manhunter Comey back to Mars, lest he never be heard from again. But Lexald J. Luthor has underestimated the Justice League’s bureaucratic power as the Manhunter’s power orb is absorbed into Muellerman (HERO MUSIC), making the Justice League and Muellerman more knowledgeable than ever before. With all of the information in his possession, Muellerman springs to action, closes his decisive grip of justice around Brainiopoulos, bringing the young Luthor pawn and his actions to a screeching halt. Smelling the scent of defeat, being captured for his deceptions, Brainipolous pleads guilty to all charges. The world is safer for another day, and the work of Justice League of America has just begun. Tune in next time… Upon learning of his betrayal of his once beloved compatriot, Luthor does everything in his power to disavow Brainiopoulos, minimizing and obscuring his actions as a low-level minion fraught with/plagued by delusions of grandeur. Greg: So, what do you think? Ethan: Dude, I told you like 10 minutes ago, Colbert already made this joke. Greg: I don’t recall that information whatsoever. Ethan: Somebody is gonna sue us. Greg: We don’t have any assets anyway. You’ve been listening to the Majority Villain podcast. Today’s show was written by Ethan Braine and Gregory Haddock. Today’s show is dedicated to the hundreds of men, women and children killed in the November 24th attack on a Sufi mosque in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. As this won’t reach the front pages of many papers, let’s make an effort to lift it up as we contemplate the tragedy of any lost human, regardless of location, ethnicity or religion. Thoughts and prayers abound for those struggling for meaning today. ˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ Gloria Allred is a Women’s Rights advocate and attorney, representing clients in controversial cases, including those against Roman Polanski, Bill Cosby and Roy Moore. She’s a boss. If you or anybody you know is a victim of sexual harassment or sexual assault, there are actions you can take. Please don’t hesitate to speak out! Visit the link in the show description at http://www.feminist.org/911/harasswhatdo.html for more information. And yes, that includes you too, guys. While news and entertainment have taken the hot seat in recent sexual misconduct allegations, it is the service, retail, healthcare and manufacturing sectors that have the highest reporting of sexual harassment, suggesting that low-wage employees seen as dispensable suffer the highest rates of misconduct. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/11/24/the-industries-with-the-worst-sexual-harassment-problem/?utm_term=.577ba6a0d114\ Show image from Freaktography via Flickr under Creative Commons Licensing. Show music provided by the Free Music Archive under Creative Commons Licensing. Today’s music is by Evil Bear Boris, Martin Beaulieu, The Joy Drops and BenJamin Banger. ˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ It must feel to many that the rate of sexual accusers in Hollywood, television and radio is growing faster than we can process it as a society. Meaning that before we have a chance to realize, internalize and analyze an appropriate verdict as a population - another name hits the front page. The speed at which this is occurring feels unprecedented. Just since October’s Majority Villain episode entitled, “Thaaat’s Harvey” citing the sexual deviance and misconduct of one of Hollywood’s most infamous producers, has the list of those accused of harassment, assault and misconduct only grown to include the likes of Kevin Spacey, Louis CK, and even public radio’s Charlie Rose. The latter three seemed to encapsulate the shocking reaction of America in it’s beloved, because none of them had the M.O. of what we imagine a slimy head of an office setting to act like. Not one of them were known in their comedy, acting, or interviews to be the typecast of a predator. Nonetheless, the list of witnesses, accuser and victims is growing, and the damage is real and evermore irrevocable. These topics are not funny, because assault is not funny. However, satire does have a duty in these moments by highlighting the absurdity with which the reality we all live in, and actively interact with, is painted. In no way should we make light of the trespasses, or engage in the very shameful act of victim blaming. Quite the contrary, as we venture instead to shame those who have acted for years as if revealing your member to any other non-consenting human could ever be appropriate. It’s not. But, like it or not, we live in a society where our favorite celebrities and politicians are constantly going to lie on the culture’s chopping block as we weed out from those who will continue to live on in our hearts, those who we will drop like hot frying pans. Sweaty, molesty, handsy frying pans. Please enjoy the show. ˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ Announcer: Hey there folks, thanks for coming out to the game today. Whether you’re here in the ballpark, or you’re listening from home, we’re happy to have you here in sunny Delaware as we head into the 6th inning of a showdown between planet Earth’s moral certitude and the normalcy of sexual assault in America’s patriarch; The Steel Supremes against the Grody Graybeards. If you’re just joining us, the Graybeards have been mostly unable to put a run up on the board, except that of any resounding dignity that might have been remaining. However, they were able to strike first in the second by crushing any dissidence on their multitudes of foul foul balls - I’ve truly never seen so many foul balls in all my years of baseball. That left an uphill road for the Supremes as only 70% of their runs were accounted for in the bottom of the first three innings. (BONK) Aaaand there goes another one. Yessiree, that glass ceiling sure prevents a lot from escaping here in Creeper Stadium. Supremes have the bases loaded, making the Graybeards look more and more uncertain from the field. Manager Donald Trump shows no signs of changing pitchers, and the bullpen appears to be sleeping. Looks like picking up pitching coach, Bill Cosby has shown few dividends for the struggling Graybeards —- AND A LINE DRIVE UP THE MIDDLE… As Gloria Allred strikes a ding dong danger between the feet of shortstop Kevin Spacey as he stands eying the 3rd baseman, Anthony Weiner. That’s definitely going to go down as an error. Kevin Spacey was playing the minors for a number of years, until he was finally dragged out of triple A to be a Graybeard… And a POP FLY will end the inning. The Supremes will head into the 7th inning stretch with a morally insurmountable lead. And now, here is a message from our sponsors at NPR. Interestingly, there was a moment in history when America’s favorite pastime tried to make a concerted effort to expose the true nature of sexism and harassment in America, by taking baseballs new single hit, “The Olde Ball Game”, and simply rebranding it, “The Olde Balls Game”. This song did not seem to resonate with the predominantly male spectators, and the song was soon replaced with the lyrics we know today. Here, in an original recording from 1931, as given to Majority Villain by New Jersey Public Radio, “The Olde Balls Game” as sung by Atlantic City’s own Rex Ferguson: 7th Inning Stretch The Old Balls Game Take me outta the cat call games, Take me outta them men crowds I’ll buy me a whistle and an ad-vo-cate, I don’t care if they never bounce back! For it’s boot, shoot, uproot those grabby bastards, If they acquit it’s a shame! Cos it’s 1, 1, 1 strike you’re done, At the Olde Balls Game! Consent to play ball! Announcer: Thanks for that fantastic piece of New Jersey history brought to you by Majority Villain’s Finer Moments, a collection of historical newsreels from the nation’s finest hour. Here we are, back in Creeper Stadium where left fielder Louis CK has utilized a trick play of his own; and the catcher has dropped the ball on strike three just as Mr. CK has removed his penis from his trousers. As everybody averts their eyes, CK safely makes his way to not just first base but second base too. Truly inconceivable baseball. I gotta say, it’s unbelievable to me that play still gets guys to second base, as the umpire is nowhere to be seen. And BAM - another smackaroo from the Senate Candidate Roy Moore right up the first base line - a real clutch hit as the Alabama Graybeard gets his hands all over that one. Trump is ecstatic in the dugout even telling Minnesota Al Franken to get away from the On Deck circle, even though the Senator has his own history of playing grab ball. But there’s a problem at third base! 6 runners unable to turn the corner as we’ve got a real back between second and third. 5 separate runners, all terrified to walk by Allred, as she looks to literally eat any one of the terrified men. Louis CK, looking to pull off another trick play talking "I’m sorry”, comes out leading the pack, hoping to get a step closer to home base, but the Supremes aren’t having it! An angry mob of mostly women have rushed the field and are literally consuming the men alive! Lord knows in all my years of announcing the greatest game on Earth, I have never seen anything like this. And there will be no golden gates for Louis CK, with or without the apology. Another heartbreaking development for the Grody Graybeards as the Steel Supremes rise up again to devour the home team here at Creeper stadium. Surely a rain delay will need to be called as maintenance team are already rushing the field to deal with the massive amounts of blood outpouring. From Delaware’s Creeper Stadium, this is Teddy McGimlets, and this is baseball today. ˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ Now, this should not be something I or anybody should ever have to say, but “NO” means abso-fucking-lutely “NO”. Consent is king. Or queen. Or maybe we need to rethink even the language we use as a society to articulate the issues facing us. Some see the assault on vocabulary as a politically correct affront to the America that we’ve all grown to know and love (Donald Trump - locker room talk). Others see it as common sense - realizing long ago that the language we use reifies, as much as it describes, the social norms and practices we have come to love, know and expect. For example, consider the thought that strong women in family households are often labeled the old ball and chain, battleaxe, the one who wears the pants, or more bluntly and far-less creative: the bitch. Confer those labels that most of us have at one time or another said, thought or heard to those of men in households: the breadwinner, man of the house, king. Seriously, make a list someday and shock even yourself of the degree of absurdity we have in labeling women as sluts, whores, nags or bitches and men having ridiculously regal titles like pimp, pimpalicious, pimpadocious, and pimpbuktu. Sure, it’s funny. But is it really? Why is a man “assertive” in the workplace while a woman is “bossy”? Why is a man “informed” on workplace ongoings, and a woman is a “gossip”? The truth is over 90% of us hear these types of terms regularly in the workplace or home, and yet we do nothing. We say nothing. We treat it like nothing. Maybe that’s because to many of us it is nothing. But to the women, some men, and large swaths of communities of LGBTQ - it is everything. Be an ally, not a co-conspirator. Be a hero, not a pussy. Oh look, I did it again. Let’s see… Be a hero, not a limp dick. There. That’s better.

Majority Villain is produced by Gregory Haddock with production assistance from Barbara Percival and Mathieu Fournier. Kris Shapar heads our social media. #NoMoreWar It’s no secret I don’t like or trust Donald Trump. But you should know I never trusted Hillary. You should also know that I have a thousand problems with Obama. You should know that I don’t trust anybody in authority blindly and I don’t think you should either. That being said, it’s irrelevant who began these wars in the Middle East. It doesn’t matter who is in charge now, because here is the truth: Most of our elected officials in DC get reelected year after year as a result of the defense industry spending millions of dollars to buy these corrupt politicians in a country where blatant legal bribery exists every day. This is not an issue isolated to Republicans. It does not exclude Democrats. The people who are meant to represent us make money every time a bomb is dropped by one of the big arms manufacturers. These firms are spread out all over the United States so as to keep pressure on all senators and representatives and keep the illusion that this is simply a “jobs program” and “just the way things are”. However, when Gallup did an international poll asking what the gravest danger world-wide was, our brothers and sisters around the globe stated plainly that it was the United States. We know Martin Luther King, Jr. for being the “dreamer”. We know he was named for the brave and deeply hated in his time, Martin Luther, the great reformer of the church (500 years this year!). A year to the day before he died he stated he was afraid that his own government was the greatest purveyor of violence in the world. Was he wrong then? 50 years ago this month - what have we learned? Have we grown from this place? He also said with great earnest, "Let me say finally that I oppose the war in Vietnam because I love America. I speak out against this war, not in anger, but with anxiety and sorrow in my heart, and, above all, with a passionate desire to see our beloved country stand as the moral example of the world. I speak out against this war because I am disappointed with America. And there can be no great disappointment where there is not great love.” In other words, we do not challenge our country from any other place than sincere pride and the deepest affection. Political commentator, Tavis Smiley, said this was the speech that put a target on his back. I wonder why. Our elected officials are profiting through the destruction of human lives. We should be furious. War is being waged all over the world in your name. Children are being murdered with your tax dollars, and truly awful groups like ISIS are benefiting from every single attack as each bomb radicalizes the next human who has had everything that mattered taken from them. The best thing we can do to fight terrorism is stop our outlandish bombing campaigns in the name of democracy, freedom, and peace. Obama dropped over 26,000 bombs in 2016 alone - that’s three per hour. Meanwhile, Trump just dropped the biggest non-nuclear bomb available to him in Afghanistan. Most of the news is focused on Syria and Iraq, but we are also creating terror in Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan. These are majority-Muslim countries where we are actively creating refugees and then giving them the middle finger when they try to leave. We are totally unaware of the consequence of these actions in our comfortable lives: 17 million people are starving in Yemen due to US-backed war efforts, and over half of the refugees from Syria are still in Syria. We can do better, because we must do better. Our country deserves that much. The world deserves that much. I know and I agree, it feels so much more satisfying to hate and avenge those that hurt us, but as Jesus said, real or symbolic - however you feel about religion, who died on this day so many years ago so that we may know love, “Forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Love your enemies, dine with sinners, and cause no harm where it needn’t be.

But Milly says they have bigger fish to fry, they've been put on a mission to track down the thief who's been stealing all the fish fingers, so into the freezer they go! Turns out management realised it'd be cheaper to simply create a temporal portal linking the polar desert to store, then run actual freezers - figures. The girls find something inside they're not expecting, is it Florence's purpose in life? "Give someone a fish and they eat for a day, teach someone to fish and they will stink for a lifetime. Happy Thanksgiving to our protectors at Standing Rock. In North Dakota, right now is the largest gathering of Native American tribes since 1876 at the Battle of Little Bighorn - also known as Custer’s Last Stand. If you don’t know that story, spoiler alert - it doesn’t end well for Custer. As these land and water protectors brave the cold, give mind to them as we enjoy all that has been given to us. I love Thanksgiving. I love the food, I love the family and the friends, I love the atmosphere. I love the feeling about how proud I am to be American. It’s true, it’s not hokey. Family. Friends. Warm food, warm feelings. Nothing in this moment can stir that. Except in realizing that we risk continuing to bastardize this day in not acknowledging the great sacrifice American Indians have paid for us. Dakota means “ally” or “friend”. Give thanks for the land you stand on, because as the good Lord makes us stewards of the earth, it is the land of the original natives that we give thanks for. And somehow this fight continues on and on. Support Standing Rock at www.standwithstandingrock.net. Make a phone call, sign the petition, write a check. Welcome to Paris for the United Nations 21st Conference of Parties on Climate Change or COP21. Word on the Street - Paris Addition Andi and I made it to Paris on December 12th to join with people from all across the globe to show international demand for accountability to the nearly 200 countries that signed the climate deal keeping our planet below 1.5 degrees Celsius. This moment is monumental, but it’s also a long way from being a reality. It will still require ratification on April 22nd, 2016 in New York, and more than ever, that everyday people continue to talk about climate change and the desire for a clean, stable planet. When it comes to fracking regulations on the ballot, there are likely fewer places more concerned than Weld county, Colorado, where I live. Weld county has a lot invested in the outcome, because nearly 12% of its workers are somehow either directly or indirectly tied to its production. Proposition 112 made it on the ballot because for many the debate over how safe this process actually is and how dangerous the wastewater byproduct can be has not been adequately dealt with. While the fight for Proposition 112 in 2018 ended in defeat for organizers, supporters treat the loss like another major milestone in the path to victory. So what would the legislation actually do? Proposed guidelines set by Proposition 112 would create a “setback” for all new oil and gas development a minimum of 2500 feet away from any “vulnerable” area such as homes, hospitals, schools, and highly trafficked or used areas by people. This would include public open spaces, water sources, or playgrounds. Any other areas deemed vulnerable by state or local governments would be added to the list. It would not affect any new oil and gas projects on federal land, and existing projects would be exempt. However, re-entering old wells would be considered new development and would therefore be subject to the new laws. Current restrictions demand wells be 1,000 feet away from high-occupancy buildings: schools, hospitals, and the like. 500 feet away from occupied buildings like homes, and only 350 feet away from playgrounds. I followed Anne Lee Foster, ballot initiative proponent and CO Rising volunteer, from the “yes” campaign’s office to election night to find out what this means for the future of oil and gas in Colorado. Most endangered species are easy to see in peril. There simply aren’t very many of them, and we struggle to see them in the areas where they’re from. Others aren’t so clear. Take, for example, the black-tailed prairie dog. It seems like they’re everywhere, and yet, their numbers are some of the lowest they’ve every been. This isn’t just bad news for the prairie dog. It’s bad news for animals like the black footed ferret, and a whole host of other animals who either feed on prairie dogs or rely on their burrows for shelter. Meet Deanna Meyer, the Executive Director of Prairie Protection Colorado, the group working to relocate prairie dogs from certain eradication in places like the City of Castle Rock’s Promenade Shopping Mall in Colorado. While only a fraction of these animals were able to be saved by Deanna and her team, the ones that did make it to the relocation area just outside of Sedalia have no idea how lucky they are. And maybe we don't either. Find out more about Deanna and the whole team of Prairie Protection Colorado at prairieprotectioncolorado.org and prairieprotectioncolorado@gmail.com. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on our relationship with wildlife. The virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, is zoonotic, which means it originated in an animal. Experts believe the virus emerged in bats then jumped to an intermediary host, possibly pangolins, before infecting humans. Evidence suggests that the virus made the first leap from animal to human in a wet market in Wuhan China where a wide variety of wild animals, including bats, crocodiles, wolf puppies, giant salamanders, snakes, rats, peacocks, and porcupines, were being bought and sold. That market was temporarily shut down and the city of Wuhan has vowed to end the sale of wild animals within its borders. However, the threat of a new pandemic looms. All over the world, humans are creating perfect conditions for zoonotic disease emergence. Not only are people trafficking wildlife for food, traditional medicine, and trinkets all over the world, we are destroying wilderness, forcing wild animals and people closer together. In the months since the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe, scientists, conservationists, and world leaders have called for a crackdown on the sale of wild animals. However, few countries have taken meaningful steps to do so. The Chinese government said it would ban the sale of several species of wild animals, but left exemptions for wildlife products sold for use as traditional medicine. In this episode, environmental journalist Annie Roth speaks with Rachel Nuwer about what the future of our relationship with wildlife might look like in a post-pandemic world. When we think of wetlands, most of us see them as ghostly swamps where spiders have huge webs that look like banshee in veils, or the dangerous Dead Marshes through which Gollum led Frodo in the Lord of the Rings. However, wetlands are not at all these dangerous, murky, smelly, marshy areas. In fact they are the most cheerful places full of life and activity. It’s where life gravitates to, where human settlements started and where wildlife will gravitate around as well. These marshes, swamps and lagoons are a critical part of our natural environment. Wetlands are one of the most productive ecosystems in the world comparable to rain forests and coral reefs. But sadly today, they are disappearing 3 times faster than our forests. A meagre 6% of the Earth’s surface is covered by wetlands whereas 31% of the earth’s surface still has forests. And yet people don’t seem to appreciate them in the same way, don’t love them as much as forests. They are hardly considered even important. In this episode, a young wildlife presenter and film-maker, Aishwarya Sridhar from India, talks to Mr. Debi Goenka and Mr. Nikhil Bhopale about the importance of wetland eco-systems in a world plagued by climate crisis. Mr. Goenka has been working towards the protection of mangroves and wetlands for over 35 years of his life. He is the executive trustee of Conservation Action Trust (a non-governmental organisation in India) engaged in environmental protection and he’s the force behind the recent policy protecting the Indian mangroves. On the other hand, Mr. Nihil Bhopale is an educationist, conservationist and an author, having written a book on the birds of the Indian subcontinent. He is the founder of Green Works Trust, an NGO pioneering environmental education in India. They discuss the role of wetlands, the crisis facing them and the need to protect them urgently. Today’s episode is all about goat grazing. Not only are goats absolutely adorable, they also reduce fire hazard, support native plant growth and soil health, and their poop is an amazing aid in carbon sequestration. Here in San Francisco, if you think you have a growing fire hazard in your backyard, an organization called City Grazing will bring a herd of goats to you, to chomp away at the invasive blackberry bushes and ivy that could fuel the fire. City Grazing’s executive director Genevieve Church speaks with producer Kristin Tieche on Mount Sutro, an open space preserve on a hillside next to University of California San Francisco (otherwise known as UCSF), where years of extreme drought have created a real fire hazard. The goats have been hired to munch away at the ground cover that could fuel a wildfire and endanger nearby residents. Check out their website at citygrazing.org ( www.citygrazing.org ) From City Grazing’s website: “City Grazing is a San Francisco-based goat landscaping non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable land management and fire risk reduction through outreach, education, and implementation of goat grazing. An environmentally beneficial solution to weed control, we rent out goats to clear public and private land. Whether you have an acre or an overgrown backyard, our goats would be eager to eat your weeds and aid in fire prevention naturally. When they are not out on the job our herd lives on pasture in San Francisco’s Bayview district between the SF Bay Railroad and Bay Natives Nursery.” Produced and created by Kristin Tieche.
