In this episode of Three Food Memories you'll meet Walkley-Award-winning journalist, broadcaster, and shared plate finger wiper Virginia Trioli. Whether you're watching, listening, or reading her work, Virginia exudes a familiarity that makes you feel like you've been invited to sit at her table and break bread. This connection makes sense -  given her passion for food, which is beautifully highlighted in her brand-new book, A Bit on the Side and her three food memories. Virginia's menu features an array of firsts; her first-ever chicken satay, her first vongole veraci, and the very first meal her now-husband, Russell Skelton, cooked for her in Japan. She also reflects on her time spent hosting ABC News Breakfast and what's stuck in her very well organised childhood scrapbook and why she still treasures it to this day.Virginia's social cause is homelessness, which she says is not just about a lack of shelter. She serves forth ricotta gnocchi to our next guest DJ Fat Tony. Send us a textTo find out more about the project and Savva - head to threefoodmemories.comInsta - @savvasavasEmail us at threefoodmemories@plated.com.au, we'd love to hear from you!

Virginia Trioli has won not one, but two Walkleys–the highest prize for journalism in Australia–through her illustrious career which spans decades and many eras of politcal and cultural life. It's no wonder, then, that you've never heard a more engaging storyteller. Virginia became a household name as the host of the morning news, and famed political panel program Q&A, and currently delves into the essence of creativity in her program on the ABC, Creative Types.  Her book, A Bit on the Side, is out now with Pan Macmillan Australia. In it, Virginia reflects on the “side dishes” that make life really delicious. The sweet and the sour; the salty, the bitter - both literally through the medium of food, and metaphorically when reflecting on her storied life. We talked how she got her start in the newsroom, some of the most difficult stories for her to cover, and much more. For more of her tales of travel and adventure, as well as some lip-smacking recipes for side dishes, find A Bit on the Side, here.   This episode contains descriptions of sexual harrasment in the workplace and domestic violence. This is my story on how deadlines and I became friends after a tumultuous relationship, starting back when I was 10. Yes, I have been deadline-resistant for most of my adult life until now. A few years ago, I had finished my music degrees, and the gigs that had come so easily to me stopped. I went quite a while without performing. And my self-confidence dwindled – I was a fish out of water. I then realised I had to take responsibility for making my opportunities. These brilliant ideas I kept telling people about (mostly my Mum and my best friend Amy, who I FaceTime daily) wouldn't be manifested without action. So, I reached out to JMI Live and asked for a gig. It was a few months into the future, so there was enough space not to freak out but a clear deadline. And I found my new method to make things happen – book the show even when you're not ready! This method can apply to any project really. Set a date and tell people about it! In this episode, you can learn about how to: ✨ Bite the bullet and give yourself a clear date (even if you don't feel ready), and then reverse engineer your project.  ✨How to ask for a gig at a Venue - ask for what you want!  ✨Uncover resistance and coach yourself out of it. I also let you know about all of our exciting Fearless Singer Events. If you want to stay posted, go to www.fearlesssinger.com/events  As always, let me know what resonates with you!!  Lots of love Mel ❤️‍

What is creativity? And why do so many people believe they are missing that “creative bone”?Well first of all. You are creative. You’ve just let others silence that creativity over time. See when we’re children we are endlessly creative. We’re born with no chains on our imagination or curiosity. We have the freedom to explore and create with abandon. But then as time goes on, we have to get more "practical." More structured. And we end up inadvertently demonizing the curious with old sayings like:Curiosity killed the cat.He let his curiosity get the best of him.Get your head out of the clouds. But practicality and structure and creativity are not mutually exclusive.-Feel free to stalk 'Experience Design w/ Tony Daussat' on Instagram at @xdpodcast -As always thank you for listening, and if you enjoy what you're hearing, please share with your friends and co-workers :) -If you are feeling EXTRA inspired, I would love for you to check out my Patreon page here: https://patreon.com/xdpodcast#staycuriousSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/xdpodcast)

James Routledge and George Bettany, founders of the mental health startup Sanctus, have been on a mission for the last two years to try and change the perceptions of mental health - with the intention of one day putting the first mental health gym on the high street.Their experiences with mental health from before Sanctus and through their work with businesses around the UK to create impartial, safe spaces for employees to work on their mental health have made them realise just how much the perceptions need to change and how we need to get people talking about their mental health in day to day conversation. Mental health and creativity is an enigmatic but apparent link that can spring up in many different ways. Whether drawing is your outlet from the stress of everyday life, or you're a professional singer having to be creative to earn a living - its impact on our mental health is both undeniable and variable. Singers Kalon Rae (seen on The Voice 2018) and Valentina Passiona, both involved with Urban Voices Collective, join James talking about how important creativity in each of their own mental health. With James often expressing himself creatively through his writing, the three of them explore the feelings of exposing yourself publicly, external validation and most importantly - filtering out the bad stuff and getting to the rewards creativity can give to our mental health.https://www.kalonrae.com/http://www.urbanvoicescollective.com/#homeMUSIC CREDITS:"Loopster, Anamalie, Perspectives, Dubakupado" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
