There's a world of heavyweight creators out there, and we love checking in on them. Our favorite Raider fan Micheal Ray Bower is busy maintaining two channels, one on his favorite sportsball team and one about his never-ending bouts of depression and anxiety. Can you guess which one is more entertaining? What's better than hot dogs and corn? Chocolate covered hot dogs and corn, or course. We check in with Royce to see what disgusting trash is on the menu today. Chad Zumock is in Tampa and sitting directly in the middle of the impending hurricane path. He's using it as an opportunity to look brave an careless, but the reality is that he doesn't have any friends or family to go stay with, nor does he have an extra $129 to blow on a La Quinta Inn a few miles inland. ...

Ever wonder what it'd be like to celebrate Valentine's Day with a pickaxe-wielding psycho miner on the loose? Sarah, TJ, and Axel certainly didn't sign up for that kind of love triangle! Join Ana and Jimmy, as they crack open a cold Moosehead beer and traverse the shadowy tunnels of the classic '80s slasher "My Bloody Valentine." It's a blood-curdling journey through the film's release, its quirky East Coast accents, and those hilariously dated taglines! You'll chuckle and shudder in equal measure, so brace yourself for a nostalgic ride that's equal parts terror and humor. Now, you might think a trip to the mines is a no-go, but what if the story behind Valentine's Day in this small, eerie town is too intriguing to pass up? Their screening reveals a tale that's survived the test of time; from the bizarre opening to the dance preparations that are a cut above the rest. They debate the merits of the theatrical versus unrated versions, admire the practical effects, and can't help but laugh at the film's campier moments. And don't forget Mabel, whose character gets a special shoutout—because what's a horror flick without memorable townsfolk? So grab your hard hat and a loved one—preferably not a pickaxe murderer—and get ready to unpack the twists and turns of the miner's bloodstained saga. They dissect the film's chilling climax, the reveal of the miner's identity, and the spine-tingling escape that leaves us wanting more. "My Bloody Valentine" may have been a low-budget affair, but will it be worth a 'buy it' or "skip it" rating? It's a Valentine's Day you won't forget, so join them for the terror, the laughs, and a celebration of horror that's close to the heart—literally.Do You Remember Liking This Movie?

Welcome to January 6th, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate staying cozy and the age of technology. If you think you're cold this winter, try living in Antarctica. In winter, the wind chills can plunge to minus 76°F. One of the only animals who can survive in this climate is the Emperor Penguin and they do it by cuddling together. Their system is simple; one penguin stands in place, surrounded by its friends who protect it from the cold wind. Then, that penguin steps out and another takes its turn in the warm center of the circle. They keep rotating until everyone gets a chance to be nice and cozy. On National Cuddle Up Day snuggle up with someone you love, and be glad it doesn't take a village to stay warm. Everything from the invention of the wheel to your smartphone can be considered technology. History is shaped by these gadgets and achievements, and no matter how far into the future you daydream, if you can imagine it, someone will create it. But there are still some who consider technology dangerous. Everything from railroads to cars to electricity were protested and derided back in their day. Anna: Marlo, where are you right now? Marlo: I am broadcasting from CES. On National Technology Day we celebrate the wonders that advance our world and keep us a buzz with food for thought. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Cuddle Up with the ‘Stuff You Wish You Didn't Feel'Air Date: Wednesday, 5 May 2021 at 5:00 PM ET/2:00 PM PTThis week's topic is, Cuddle Up with the ‘Stuff You Wish You Didn't Feel'Jealousy, resentment, contempt, disapproval … what in the heck do we do with all these undesirable feelings and thoughts when we're trying to be a warmhearted and open person? When we shy away from the traits and qualities that seem unloving or in some way unacceptable or selfish, it's the same as telling ourselves, “We're not lovable”.Most of us know that if we are to truly embrace what it means to ‘be human' then we must celebrate the WHOLE of who we are – loving the Self is at the hub of loving ALL of the diverse slices of life.Beyond that, when we can't BE with these unwanted parts of the Self, we're limiting access to our natural born talents, our unique expression in the world and ultimately, our sense of peace and personal fulfillment. This week we're going to blow this idea of unbearable inner feelings and experiences wide open by pinpointing how they came to be placed on the ‘blacklist' of the Self to begin with. Sam will help you peel the layers back, one by one, in the hopes that you'll uncover a previously unseen connection with one of these insufferable aspects of the Self. This is a sweet opportunity to take a closer look at your how you learn to value YOU and stop depriving yourself of the abundance that can come from empowering more of these unwelcome feelings. It'll be a thought-provoking, inspiring hour for sure. And Sam invites you to CALL IN and CHAT LIVE and share your thoughts on the ‘STUFF you WISH you DIDN'T FEEL', to further the conversation.Go to samparrotto.com to submit your questions for this week's conversation. You won't want to miss being an ‘ON AIR' participant of Expedition Self. Sam will provide real insight, understanding and offer an opportunity to connect a new way of thinking to YOUR way of thinking. Each week Sam discusses a different and highly accessible slice of building a stronger, deeper relationship with the inner Self so that YOU have the tools to become more and more whole.Visit the Expedition Self Show Page https://omtimes.com/iom/shows/expedition-self/Connect with Sam Parrotto on her website at https://www.expeditionself.com/#CuddleUp #SamParrotto #ExpeditionSelf #Creativity

Phat Phil Cooper has the perfect antidote to the colder months with his Winter Warmers compilation from NuNorthern Soul. It releases December 6th. However, we've been luck enough to have been treated to a prerelease of it and we share a track with you today. It's Phil's edit of a classic B.J. Smith tune. Tobin describes it as "sublime" - listen on to see if you agree. There's so much more to go at in NuNorthern Soul's compilation too, so be sure to check it out fully and give it the time it deserves. It's richly rewarding. Furthermore, we've got music-as-art specialist Alabaster dePlume bookending today's show. Unique is probably the best word to describe this music. Firstly, Alabaster himself forms a new band every month. Secondly, he writes fresh compositions for said band and performs live. After that, the process repeats itself. Such a visionary way to approach music making. Alabaster dePlume is also an artist with a wide range of theatrical talents. Check out his "I was gonna fight racism but…" production below. It went viral for good reason. You can also buy a t-shirt of it it right here - what are you waiting for? New Music - Talkboy Talkboy is your New Music selection this week and this track is even better than the previous track we played on the show. Hollow Spheres is a triumph and clearly marks out the path toward greatness for Talkboy. Richard proclaims that Talkboy sounds more like U2 than U2! Taken from the recently released Over and Under EP Hollow Spheres is for us the stand out track. It's surely only a matter of time until this is a single release from the EP. Wasting Time has already been released as a single and has featured on our Patreon posts earlier this month. Greatness in store for Talkboy for sure. In addition, we've got an excellent Cover Shot of Stacy's Mom, originally penned by Fountains of Wayne. Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox gives it a fresh lick of paint and turns an already classic tune into an essential listen. Prepare yourself for the manic mini drum solo about a third of the way in. Tyler Burns and Remember Sports round out today's show. It's the weekend so relax, grab yourself some "me" time and join us for musical discovery, discussion and commentary. Enjoy. Is It Enough? Alabaster dePlume Hollow Spheres Talkboy You're So Sorry (feat. Addie Pray) Remember Sports Way I Feel BJ Smith (Phat Phil Cooper edit) Stacy's Mom (feat. Casey Abrams) Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox Western Country At Night Tyler Burns Be Nice To People Alabaster dePlume Phat Phil Cooper - Winter Warmer compilation With the sweltering summer quickly fading from memory, thoughts quickly turn to frosty winter nights spent reclining by a roaring fire. Ideally with the accompaniment of suitably atmospheric and evocative music. To that end, NuNorthern Soul founder Phat Phil Cooper has trawled through the label’s archives and selected a bumper selection of “winter warmers”. They're guaranteed to provide the perfect soundtrack to snowy walks, crisp autumnal mornings and evenings spent turning the central heating up to the max. It’s a side of the label’s output that largely gets overlooked. It's thanks to NuNorthern Soul’s association with the sunrise and sunset-ready Balearic movement. Yet as the 13-track selection proves, there’s plenty of languid, hazy and seductive fare. Within the vaults there are evoking mental images of falling autumn leaves, glistening icicles and windswept afternoons outdoors. Beginning with the atmospheric “Aquapella mix” of Ilija Rudman’s inspired collaboration with soul man Andre Esput, “Tears To Sound”. Phat Phil Cooper gently guides us through a range of slow-motion tracks that variously touch on ambient and kosmiche. There's also slow motion soul, dubbed-out soundscapes, post dubstep beats, intoxicating Indian grooves, pitched-down nu-disco and exotic psychedelic jazz. It’s a selection guaranteed to warm the cockles of your heart. It's one helluva playlist The list of contributors and remixers is impressive. Ambient soundscape hero Jon Tye delivers the shuffling, horizontal heat of “Wind Blows” as Captain Sunshine. After reuniting with his Seahawks band on an undulating, slow burn rework of Dos Palos’s “I’ve Been Around”. Claremont 56 regular Benjamin J Smith is represented by a trio of soft focus cuts. Rich in languid acoustic guitar motifs (one of which has been remixed by Balearic legends A Man Called Adam). Jose Manuel offers up the compilation’s steamiest cut, “Mumbai”. Elsewhere, Phat Phil Cooper has opted to shine a light on lesser-known talents from the label’s roster. With the cuts by Lowhitey, Ragz Nordset (as remixed by Ghostchant), Abimaro and the Free. Ryo Kawasaki (the off-kilter psch-jazz brilliance of LP standout “Quasar Infection”) being amongst the most potent winter warmers on show. Want to see in the '20s with Tobin? As we mentioned on the show Tobin is performing at an event on New Years Eve to see in the return of the 20s. In his guise as Professor Gramophone he'll be spinning tracks deep into the early hours. If you want to join him and party like it's the 1920's you can get tickets here. The website has all the information you need on the event and this is what they had to say on the whole affair. Return of the 20s is a spectacular evening of sensational music and captivating performances. From jazz bands and singers to DJs on gramophones, vintage burlesque, dancing troupes and pop up performances around the venue, there will be plenty to experience. Come dressed to dance and dazzle, mingle and meet characters. At Return of the 20s everyone is a someone, but not everyone or everything is as it seems. Immerse yourself in the unfolding experience and you may even find yourself becoming part of the action. Elysium Experiences

Show Notes: National Cuddle Up Day - Ep6Today’s featured holiday is National Cuddle Up Day!For those of us who live in the northern hemisphere, January typically is a cold, snowy month. Keeping with the cold weather, January is National Soup Month and National Hot Tea Month. So it’s no wonder someone came up with the idea for Cuddle Up Day. While there’s no reliable source to identify the genesis of this unofficial holiday, we know it’s a wonderful and worthy day to slow down and experience special moments. When we think of cuddling up, we usually think about spending time with a significant other in front of a blazing fire cooing romantic words of love and adoration. And that is certainly a wonderful way to spend Cuddle Up Day.But what if no special someone is available? Must you miss out on those oxytocin rich feel good moments? No!There are countless ways to celebrate National Cuddle Up Day. Do you have a pet? Dogs and most kitties love to cuddle. If you have a warm fire in the fireplace, pets can sit for hours soaking up the warmth and your attention.Do you love to read? Cuddling up with your spouse after a great love making session can do wonders for both of you. Your skin is the largest organ on your body and when it is in contact with your spouse's skin it can do wonders for your marriage. The act of cuddling with your spouse releases the hormone oxytocin, "the feel-good hormone", which can lead to overall happiness. Cuddling can also release endorphins, which are the same hormones that are released during a good workout. This week Tony & Alisa share how the act of cuddling, which was prevalent in their early years of marriage, has faded over time. They get to the root of why cuddling has faded over time and what they are going to do to get more cuddling in after sex.
