Cressida Ward and Daniel Levine from Food Tryb Table podcast join Flixwatcher to review Cressida’s choice Reservoir Dogs. Reservoir Dogs is the debut feature-length film from Quentin Tarantino. Released in 1992 it stars Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Tierney, Michael Madsen, Quentin Tarantino, and Edward Bunker as diamond thieves caught up in a heist gone wrong when one of the gang is discovered to be an undercover cop. It features what we now know and recognize at Tarantino traits - violent crime, pop culture references, profanity, and nonlinear storytelling - possibly marking the arrival of modern cinema as we know it. Uncharacteristically though for a Tarantino film though the runtime is a punchy 99 minutes. Scores [supsystic-tables id=175] Iconic, violent, endless quotable, the answer to your hipster Halloween costumes, Tarantino might have made much better films since but Reservoir Dogs paved the way for independent filmmaking and is essential Tarantino viewing. Reservoir Dogs scores 3.79 overall, losing a couple of points on repeat viewing and small screen. What do you guys think? Have you seen Reservoir Dogs? What did you think? Daniel Levine and Cressida Ward from Food Tryb Table podcast join Flixwatcher to review Daniel’s choice Fyre. Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened is a 2019 documentary about Billy McFarland and the failed Fyre Festival that took place in 2017. It was directed by Chris Smith and co-produced by Jerry Media, the social media agency responsible for promoting Fyre Festival. Fyre Festival was billed as a luxury, exclusive, influencer festival - the reality was something quite different. Fyre was organized by McFarland and Ja Rule (neither particularly experienced in event management) to initially promote the Fyre music booking app. Trouble begins very early on when, after the promo video is shot on Norman’s Cay island - on the agreement not to mention the connection with Pablo Escobar - is advertised as being once owned by Pablo Escobar. From there things escalate in a series of excruciating misguided and unbelievably arrogant style-car crash viewing at its best. Scores [supsystic-tables id=165] Fyre scores very highly across all categories - except repeat viewing. As with most documentaries they offer little reward for repeat viewings. Despite this Fyre scores 3.88 - highly recommended but repeat viewing not required! What do you guys think? Have you seen Fyre? What did you think? Please let us know in the comments below! Business conferences are big business. The World Economic Forum in Davos, the Milken Institute Global Conference, and the Allen & Company Sun Valley Conference are among the largest and best-known of the lot. By comparison, the annual Fireside Conference – held at a remote retreat a 3 ½ hour drive from Toronto – is a puppy; but a best-in-show gathering at that, attracting a small group of top innovators, thought leaders, and investors in the entrepreneurial universe. Fireside’s co-founder, Daniel Levine, tells host and reputation coach Dean Rotbart just why every year Fireside gets more than ten times the number of applicants than it accepts – and the secret to having what it takes to land a coveted invite to the off-the-grid, off-the-record meeting of some of the brightest minds in business. The Business Method Podcast: High-Performance & Entrepreneurship
“We try to curate an environment that fosters serendipity.” Daniel Levine Today listeners we have one of the co-founders of Fireside Conference, Daniel Levine on the show! FiresideConf happens just outside of Toronto, Canada. Once a year, some of the brightest minds in business and tech disconnect from our digital world, travel to Camp Walden near Toronto to spend a long weekend networking and learning from one another in a fun filled outdoor adventure. They host speaker sessions while sitting around the campfire discussing business ideas. The entire camp is open to waterski, canoe, kayak, sail, participate in sports and a rope course. What is really cool about FiresideConf is that you truly are disconnected. Meaning that there is absolutely no cell phone reception at the camp. It is an invite-only, all-inclusive technology, business and investor summer camp! I am really excited to welcome Daniel to the show because he is the first person that we have had on the show that creates events similar to The Entrepreneur House. I started researching FiresideConf and Daniel, and became more and more excited about learning more about both him and FiresideConf…..and with that, let's welcome Daniel Levine to the show! “We take a really strong and deep care for the people that join us. Things look bleak. My radio show has been canceled, an immortal interplanetary empress has ordered an entire sector of the galaxy to kill my brother, I think the lawyer I hired is taking advantage of me, and what's more, my brother keeps ruining my towels and complaining about my milk while he's hiding out in my spare room! If I'm going to put a stop to all of this, I have to take it to the source. The court of Ruby Resplenda, Monarch of the Scarlet Sector, the Crimson Queen herself. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis StevensonHyde by Daniel Levine
“A gloriously disturbing portrait of man’s animal nature ascendant, Hyde brings into the light the various horrors still hidden in the dark heart of Stevenson’s classic tale of monstrosity and addiction. It’s Daniel Levine’s extraordinary achievement to give voice to a creature capable of indulging every impulse of transgression, while driving its higher self to damnation. Florid, devious and ingenious, Hyde is a blazing triumph of the gothic imagination.”—Patrick McGrath, author of Asylum The Avid Reader is sponsored by Wellington Square Bookshop in Exton, PA. www.wellingtonsquarebooks.com
"I like that we live in an age that's increasingly curious about this dark side, and not merely in terms of its pure darkness, but of how seemingly ordinary or normal people can commit atrocities." Daniel Levine joins us to talk about his debut novel, HYDE, an inventive and gorgeous retelling of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It's a fun conversation about our public and private selves, the ways we define evil, the mechanics of storytelling, the luck of human evolution, and more! Give it a listen!
