These were the years that saw dance music shifting dramatically, with the big room circuit style starting to cool off just as Electro House began rising from the underground and taking over mainstream dance floors. But the evolution wasn't one-dimensional. This era ushered in a diverse set of trends that helped shape the sound of modern dance. It was the rise of remix royalty like Freemasons, Moto Blanco, and Cahill. Each brought their own distinct flair to the genre. Freemasons blended traditional House with Electro influences, Moto Blanco leaned deep into shimmering Disco House, and Cahill straddled both worlds with a clean, pop-forward edge. Their remixes were everywhere—especially for big-name artists. Back then, the bigger the artist, the more labels were willing to shell out for high-profile remixers. That is, until budgets began shrinking and labels stopped cutting those massive checks. Fast-forward 15 years, and platforms like SoundCloud changed the game again. Suddenly, bootleg remixes became marketing tools, not just club exclusives. DJs had to hustle to make a name for themselves—often remixing tracks for free in the hopes of being discovered or landing a record deal. A Remix Renaissance During this same stretch, a powerhouse of remixers emerged and defined the dancefloor. Bimbo Jones, Seamus Haji, Soul Seekerz, Wideboys, Dave Audé, Jody den Broeder, and a revitalized StoneBridge (whose roots go back to the '90s) were dropping fire left and right. Meanwhile, some of the biggest names from the big room era still held their ground. Chris Cox (post-Thunderpuss), Ralphi Rosario, Tony Moran, Johnny Vicious, and DJ Escape kept delivering heavy, floor-shaking anthems that balanced out the sleeker, more polished productions coming from the Electro and Disco House scenes. This blend of sounds made for one of the most diverse periods in dance music—something we haven't quite seen repeated since. A Pop Diva Takeover The pop landscape at the time wasn't sitting quietly either. Britney Spears was staging a massive comeback, Beyoncé and Rihanna were dominating charts globally, and Robyn was redefining what electro-pop could be. Their tracks became essential remix material and ruled dance floors from coast to coast. Mardi Gras has popped up so quickly this year. World Pride is kicking off as Mardi Gras comes to a close this coming weekend, which is the last weekend of February. This edition of Mardi Gras Anthems arrives a couple of days before the big party which is celebrating it's 45th anniversary. For this set I wanted to present a more house flavoured disco/pop sound. These are all songs I have heard at the MG party over the years with the exception of a couple which came out last year. The set kicks off with Cyndi Lauper's timeless classic "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" remixed by the Ghostbusterz. Division 4 works his magic on three remixes here for Belinda Carlisle, Taylor Swift and Whitney Houston. His remix of "So Emotional" is the definitive mix in my opinion. Dirty Disco, who is playing at World Pride/Mardi Gras events features four amazing remixes at the front and back end of the set. Melbourne based remixer Luin turns out a funky mix of Madonna's "Who's That Girl". Check out his soundcloud page for stacks of great remixes.. Subesque's house classic "Ain't No Love" is updated by Jet Boot Jack who is turning out some really great remix productions. It wouldn't be a MG anthems edition without remixes from 7th Heaven, Hex Hector and Wayne G. All feature remixes here. Gloria Gaynor's classic anthem is remixed by Dirty Disco and the set closes out with Debby Holiday's uplifting "Joyful Sound" and finishes with Beyonce's amazing "Listen" mixed by DJ Escape & Dom Capello. Following hot on the heels of Mardi Gras Anthems 17 come Mardi Gras Anthems 18. I had to squeeze this one in before I go away for my birthday which happens to be Mardi Gras party/parade night on March 5th. This edition again covers artists with big hits from the 2000's onwards however there are a few classics from the 70's and 80's thrown in to keep the mix interesting. Once again, a huge thank you to Mark from Dirty Disco as 4 of his remixes feature in this set. To kick it off is his funky remix of Paula Abdul's "The Way That You Love Me" followed by Boney M's classic, "Daddy Cool". I had a browse through my 7th Heaven remixes and came up with some gems from the past. Three remixes feature here for Matt Consola, Agnes and Claire Sharpe. I love the musicality of 7th Heaven's remixes, they never fail to deliver. Dirty Disco gave me an exclusive pre release of his collaboration with Debby Holiday "Find A Way" and it is truly uplifting and inspiring. Other standout mixes come from Hex Hector, Freemasons, DJ Escape & Tony Coluccio, and the always reliable Tony Moran & Warren Rigg. Donna Summer, Christina Milian and Rihanna all feature here and the set closes out with an awesome remix of Whitney's "One Moment In Time" by VMC. This 18th edition of Mardi Gras Anthems is pure hands in the air, main room club classics. Continuing on with the 2020 editions of Mardi Gras anthems comes the 14th installment. This edition explodes out of the gate with a killer remix of Kylie's "Love At First Sight" by Tommer Mizrahi and the energy level kicks on right to the end. Here is the third instalment in the Heaven series. As with the previous editions, Heaven 3 is packed with classic, uplifting vocal house music as well as a few new remixes & remakes. Summer is finally here! Pride season is always an exciting time of year to me, but this year I've been feeling an especially strong amount of emotion. I just turned 38 this month, and I think the combination of being firmly in my late-30's now and having just finished riding my 7th AIDS/LifeCycle has got me thinking deeply about a lot of things. I was (as many were) recently moved by the powerful message that the world got from watching HBO's "The Normal Heart." And then again watching HBO's "The Case Against 8" this week, on the eve of the marriage of Jeff Zarrillo and Paul Katami. I feel tremendous change in my approach towards interpersonal relationships right now as well — with an eye out towards both friendships and romantic love... with changing priorities in my life's work. Maybe it's just Mercury in retrograde, but right now I'm just feeling very deeply. I express a lot of that through music. Music is the motivation that keeps me going. Music is the crutch that supports me through long days. Music is the outlet that allows me to vent and to be creative. So with this podcast, I want to celebrate the beauty that exists in loving each other… in finding love in all of its strange forms and remembering what it means to love one another. Summer is fading, and fall is upon us. It’s truly my favorite season, as the evenings start to get that first chill in the air. Last weekend, we took the Swish Mobile Studio to the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania for CAMP 2011 and we've brought you all the gays-in-the-woods craziness on this very special on-location episode. After the boys share some juicy tales from the scene (there's a list below) we chat with Camp 2011 organizer JAMES TATE. 2009 was a good year for the DJ/Producer.  As I mentioned in my first post, David Guetta was successful in bridging the gap between electro-house and radio.  Not unlike the 70's when disco bubbled up from the clubs and became mainstream, electro and funky house are well on their way to becoming the new Top 40 du jour. No one appeared more often on remix productions than Dave Aude.  There is no doubt he had his hand in better than half of the massive club hits of the year.  He was often paired against Moto Blanco who continue to whip up their sugary-disco confections.  More often than not, those productions fell flat as they became formulaic opening up Dave's work as the favorite for dancefloors across the globe. From Beyonce to Lady GaGa and everyone in between, Dave was the guy you went to for a guaranteed floor filler; and boy did he deliver! The other winner this year was Cahill.  While the Freemasons have been busy working their magic on future releases off of their sophomore album "Shakedown 2,"  Cahill appears to have slipped in and taken up the slack where the 'masons may have become cost prohibitive for many labels.  Hailing from Liverpool, UK, Anton Powers, Tim Condran and Scott Rosser (i.e. Cahill) are poised to become the next superstar production team.  While they left their mark on many hits in 2009, none were more prevalent than newcomer Agnes' "Release Me."  Of course, it didn't hurt to remix a superstar like Mariah either and it's those kinds of remixes that tend to get people noticed.  With future productions in the works by Pixie Lott & N-Dubz plus new singles from Lemar and Cascada, I fully expect nothing less than club domination in 2010 from these guys. While Dave was hitting the electro masses and Cahill was working their magic in the electro-pop scene, DJ Escape was pounding out the tribal beats on the circuit.  Whether he was pairing up with Tony Coluccio, Johnny Vicious or Dom Capello, DJ Escape (a.k.a. Jeff Jonas) found himself churning out many of last year's biggest club hits.  Most notably, his work on several of Beyonce's singles gained him the kind of notoriety that most DJ/producers can only dream of.  Since the early 90s, hard work and dedication to his craft have clearly paid off as he has become one of 2009's most in-demand producers as well as performers.  You'll be hearing a lot of his work in the final four of this podcast series coming next week. Finally, 2009 witnessed the return of some of clubland's most cherished.  I'm talking about Barry Harris, Pete Hammond and Razor N' Guido.  Barry, as you know, was one half of the acclaimed Thunderpuss production team and R-n-G (a.k.a. Guido Osorio and Peter Osback) were responsible for Kim English's 1999 hit "Unspeakable Joy"  among others.  Pete Hammond is the former chief engineer and producer for Stock Aitken & Waterman (SAW) and was responsible for shaping classic 80s Hi-NRG dance hits like Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" and Donna Summer's "This Time I Know It's For Real."  He has now gone back and updated that sound for a whole new generation of club-goers.  Already churning out the hits, these guys are a breath of fresh air in an already crowded field where many DJs nauseously drop an acapella over the same drum loop.  Party Favorz extends a very warm 'welcome back' to these masters of production and looks forward to hearing and dancing to their work in 2010. Working off the same vibe as my 2009 BPM series along with a little T-Dance thrown in for good measure, I bring you part deuce of the Party Favorz 2009 Year-End Edition.  I'm doing my best to get out the first four by the end of the week, with the second half slated for next, which will be more in line with the original series.  Until the next time . . . enjoy! It's about time to close another chapter of our lives and in celebration, I've made another year-end mix of some of my favorite dance songs of 2009. My initial list of my personal favorites were about 150 songs, so this -- by far -- is not all or in any particular order of how much I liked them. As with previous year's mixes, I arranged this as though I was at a fabulous New Year's Eve party. In this year's, midnight falls at 2:41. I know so many of these songs remind me of some great memories of the year. Here's hoping you made some wonderful memories in 2009 and here's to a great 2010! Two days ago, I had the chance to finally preview 'Take 2' and decided I wasn't exactly feeling the Bimbo Jones mix of "Push Up Word Up" and decided to swap it out for the club mix instead.  That version is more of a breakbeat mix very similar to the original 80s version by Cameo, which I like much better.  While I was at it, I went ahead and made some minor improvements to a couple of songs.  I decided that the Simply Red and Freemasons with Sophie Ellis- Bextor mixes were a little too slow for my taste.  So, I increased the BPM from 125 to 128 giving both songs an energy boost.  It's not as significant as you might think since the vocals remain the same and don't come out sounding like the Chipmunks.  I've done this before, but not after I had already posted the mix.  I also remastered the Freemasons mix to bring it up to par with the songs surrounding it.  The quality was a little lacking so I added some light compression to toughen it up a bit.  Anyway, if you want the final version, the mix along with a new .cue file has been replaced and is available for download. I have to say this has been a hectic week.  I've had a lot on my plate and had all the mixes finished up on Sunday to get other work done.  The only problem was a slew of new promos showed up.  There were several worthwhile mixes that I added to this third installation, making it longer than previously projected.  I don't think anyone will mind and I'm guessing that the fourth will have some changes as well, though I can't guarantee the length.  I just thought I'd put that out there before some of you get all up in my face about the length of the mix.  Regardless, once you hear it, you'll be glad I made the additions. Starting things off with quite possibly the hardest songs I've had to mix in a long time.  Ashley Tisdale's "It's Alright, It's Okay" and Kaci Battaglia's "Crazy Possessive (I'll Muck You Up)" are too big and I mean very BIG electro house tunes that you'll no doubt be hearing everywhere this summer.  The problem I had was the rolling beats that Dave Aude and Cahill used as the foundation for the songs.  The best way to mix in and out of these is to have a song in a perfect key that has no build-up or breakdown at the end.  Otherwise, you can forget it.  After messing around with it yesterday evening, I finally decided to move them to the front of the mix and took the easy way out of "Crazy Possessive" to keep things moving along.  Speaking of Dave Aude, this guy is on fire!  Last year I was complaining that he was kind of hit or miss in his mixes, but it seems that everything he's touched this year (and that's been a lot) is nothing short of magic! So I want to give a big shout out to Dave for rocking the floors in 2009! We also get hot new tunes by Erika Jayne and Amanda Wilson.  Erika's new single "Give You Everything" (currently only available on iTunes ) is jam-packed with great mixes from Dave Aude, DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious, and Moto Blanco.  I would definitely add this to your essential list as it has something for every floor.  Equally, Amanda's "Make It Real" is one of three brand new songs from the budding diva in this series all begging for attention.  I'm not sure when she plans to stop and smell the roses, but I'll take that amazing voice anytime.  Now, will someone please give this woman a record deal, like yesterday?  Other songs already making a lot of noise are the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" and Lady GaGa's latest "Love Game".  Both songs are already burning up the dancefloor and if it isn't where you're at, then request it.  The DJ will thank you. It's looking like this might end up as a four mix set, so I decided to go ahead and start rolling the mixes out.  I'm not completely sure about the fourth mix, but just in case...Anyway, I'll be putting these out each day through the weekend. As promised, I kept the mixes down in size, though I wasn't able to get this one under the 80 minute mark, I think everyone will live.  There's definitely several HOT tunes in this mix and I thought I might get back to my short reviews of each song; so here goes... Album : Holiday Edition v1 Genre : Circuit, Progressive, Tribal Year : 2008 Total Time : 1:27:09.00 Track : 1 Title : I Stay In Love (Jody Den Broeder Club Mix) Artist : Mariah Carey I wasn't really feeling the Ralphi mixes of this song, however I totally love that Jody is showing us a funkier side of his production skills.  In fact, he does it again on Leann Rimes' "What I Cannot Change".  However, since I didn't want to get to early hour in this mix, I opted for the Bronleewe & Bose Extended Mix instead.  Frankly, I'm just glad that Sony finally got around to releasing some more mixes from Mariah.  Her album has not done as well as they had hoped, but her fans still want to hear her on the dancefloor.  Essential. Track : 2 Title : Feels So Good (Klubjumpers Club Mix) Artist : Sean Ensign Klubjumpers appear to be the 'IT' guys of the moment.  Sean's association with them has turned out another solid floor thumper.  Catchy as hell, there's no doubt this will keep the boys movin'.  Outstanding. Track : 3 Title : Sandcastle Disco (Escape & Coluccio Club Mix) Artist : Solange The other 'IT' guys of the moment are Escape & Coluccio; for that matter DJ Escape and anyone he produces with.  Beyonce's baby sister is on fire with her second single which is currently #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart.  Equally exceptional is the Freemasons remix of this song featured in my Halloween Edition (Take 3).  Essential. Track : 4 Title : Hell No (Tony Moran & Warren Rigg Club Mix) Artist : Judy Torres I thought I'd never say this, but I miss Tony & Warren.  After inundating us with mix after mix from last year's "The Event", they pretty much oversaturated the clubs with their big room sound.  After taking some time off, their back with a remix of this ultra hot Judy Torres tune.  With it's call out hook "HELL NO" this song is irresistible no matter what the remix.  Tony brings back his big room production style and applies it to great effect on this song.  Essential. Track : 5 Title : Roots Before Branches (Almighty Extended Mix) Artist : Room For Two Almighty, the kings (or queens) of Euro power pop for the dancefloor are as relevant now as they were in the late 90s and early millennia.  With it's big production style, amazing vocals and over the top drama, this mix borders on commercial trance that finds the hook and utilizes it to great effect.  Unfortunately, I don't think this song will be the big hit it deserves to be.  Why?  No one has really picked up on it, at least not yet.  So, I'm challenging everyone to drop this in the middle of a set and see if it don't drive those queens mad!  Essential. Track : 6 Title : Feel It 2008 (The Mac Project Remix) Artist : The Tamperer feat. Maya Updated classic from 1998.  Daddy Mac retains all of the original elements making it even bigger than I remember it.  Essential. Track : 7 Title : Fashion (Arenna Mix) Artist : William Umana feat. Jenn Fashion is Dolce, Gabbana...Beyonce and Madonna.  Oh SNAP! Track : 8 Title : Headphones (Almighty 12'' Anthem Mix) Artist : Leann Rimes I love the fact that Leann released an E.P. of mixes from her last two albums "Family" and "Whatever We Wanna".  The two standouts are the Almighty remix of "Headphones" and the remixes for "What I Can Not Change" featuring productions by Jody Den Broeder (funky) Kaskade (mainstream progressive) and Bronleewe & Bose (big room trance).  While the other cuts,

It's looking like this might end up as a four mix set, so I decided to go ahead and start rolling the mixes out.  I'm not completely sure about the fourth mix, but just in case...Anyway, I'll be putting these out each day through the weekend. As promised, I kept the mixes down in size, though I wasn't able to get this one under the 80 minute mark, I think everyone will live.  There's definitely several HOT tunes in this mix and I thought I might get back to my short reviews of each song; so here goes...
