Disordinato e frammentato li ha sempre presi come complimenti - anche quando non lo erano. A partire da metà degli anni '90 Teo Segale ha intrapreso l'involontaria carriera di missionario della musica indipendente, con alterni successi e alterne scocciature. Dopo gli inizi con Loudblast (booking & promo) e Musicboom (esordio giornalistico) ha fondato e scritto per Metallus.it, è entrato nella redazione di Rumore e diventato finalmente un professionista il giorno in cui SpinGo! l'ha chiamato per andarci a lavore. Per i successivi quindici anni (2000-2015) si è occuparo di promozione e marketing per etichette indipendenti straniere: da Warp a Century Media passando per PIAS, XL, Domino ed Earache. Dal grindcore ad Adele passando per Aphex Twin. Nel frattempo ha co-creato SoloMacello, inizialmente un blog di scorrettezze assortite, poi un festival di musica pesante iniziato nel 2009. Poi ha fondato e fatto da direttore artistico di Santeria (entrambi i locali), cercando sempre di tenere il piede artristico in più scarpe possibili. Bass legend, Billy Sheehan is up first. We went back throughout his entire career, to his Talas years, joining David Lee Roth, to releasing a record last year. We talk about the late Phil Nero and his passing. "He was giving it 200%" Billy said about his vocal performance on the last album. Winery Dogs 3 is out now. Billy talks about playing with Richie Kotzen and Mike Portnoy. Apparently, Richie stopped using a pick while playing his guitar. That's a crazy story. What did he do during the lockdown? "I did tracks for people." He did over 600 tracks for bands and musicians from all over, and all styles of music.  He told some amusing stories about doing that for people. He gives an update on what's going on with Mr. Big. He said they have a drummer ready to go, but that person is currently doing other things, so they can't announce who it is just yet. Billy goes home every year for the Musicians of Buffalo Annual Christmas Concert. He told me what inspired that and what a joy it is to play. We talked about a collaboration he did with an Indonesian band called Dewa 19. Tyler Connolly from Theory of a Deadman gave me a great question - who's the best guitar player he's played with? Billy has shared the stage with legendary players. His answer? "That would be tough" On his time in David Lee Roth's band "We had a riot...what an adventure!" See Billy with the Winery Dogs at the Token Lounge on March 11th. Next, I had the chance to talk with Ricky Warwick from Black Star Riders about a lot of stuff. Their new album is called the Wrong Side Of Paradise. He tells me about the album and explained the album cover art. He laughed and said “We had a great band picture, but we didn't know who was going to be in the band”. He talks about Scott Gorham's semi-retirement, Christian Martuci leaving the band and going back to play with Corey Taylor, and new members of the band. He's been doing in-stores over in Europe. He tells me about that and how much he liked doing them. “For me, I love to meet people”. He talks about becoming sober. He said he doesn't want to harp, but “It works for me”. “I can't say enough good things about them” talking about the new record label, Earache records. He said it was time for a change for the new album. He also talks about the killer tour they'll be doing in Europe. Of course, I had to text my friend, producer Jay Ruston, to send me a question. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation might not have won an Academy Award, but it did give us an incredible soundtrack and sitting right on Track 5 was Pitchshifter with their song, Genius taken from their 1998 album, www.pitchshifter.com. This album is pure punk rock guitars over drum machines with glitched out politically charged vocals so it is easy to see why their were hometown heroes in Nottingham but what isn't as easy to see if why their parting with Earache caused so much drama. Earache founder, Digby Pearson said "what a colossal waste of space that band turned out to be" - man, falling out of love can be rough. At first, maybe you didn't feel like makin' love, but she was one hell of a woman. She told you things like she never knew love before, and then came you. You were still reluctant, but you took one look at her in those skin tight clothes and thought “just do it baby”. You then went off to do your own thing, like a free man in Paris. A few months later, you got a letter from her saying that she really needed to talk to you and would you please come to Boston. When you saw here again and she told you, you thought to yourself oh my god, she's having my baby! She didn't make any demands, she just said “hold me, and rock me gently”. In terms of a commitment, she only said “I'm going to leave it all up to you”. You told her that you would hang in there because I can't get enough of your love babe. Then a friend told you about the other man, the musician, the jazz man. In a mad fit of rage you went to find him and in a blind fury, you shot him down. As your head cleared and the people stared as if you were some kind of circus sideshow, you realized, oh my god, I didn't just shoot her lover, I shot the sheriff! You fled, into the hills, deep into the woods, no time to stop and smell the roses, no time to change horses, especially in the middle of a stream. The horse was your only friend and you said to him, “It's just you and me against the world now”, but then you realized no, you set him free yelling "go on boy, you ain't done nothin". At last, exhausted, you prayed for death, realizing you would never see your sweet home Alabama. Then, that moonlit night, he came, a wild thing, and he spared you anymore agony. Listen in for a quick update on Fancy, the horse that I witnessed a miracle of healing because I tuned into my intuition and acted upon it. So, as you may have heard, I wanted to learn to swim this year so I took swim lessons and in early March I was experiencing an earache. I tried to just ignore it but that was not working…who knew!?  The ear pain was getting worse but being from Canada, I was not keen on experiencing the American Medical industry as I've not heard good things about it. I went on autopilot and Googled my symptoms (yes I do it too)  This put me into a panic and I'm sure that magnified the issue too. I got desperate in wanting to get this pain gone. I became aware that where your energy goes, energy flows and decided to make myself an experiment...  Within days I was able to reverse the pain using this process that I learned from Dr. Joe Dispenza. I realized a major step that I have missed before... DBL#18 - Dave Cochrane (Terminal Cheesecake, Greymachine, GOD, Sweet Tooth, Head of David...).Dave Cochrane has been all over many different projects as a bass player since the mid 80s in Birmingham. He was briefly in the band ANOREXIA with Mick Harris (Napalm Death, Scorn) before spending time playing in HEAD OF DAVID up until 1989. After leaving that group he was involved in the formation of SWEET TOOTH with Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu etc.). They released a mini album on Earache records in 1990 before dissolving into the avant/jazz/industrial group GOD headed by Kevin Martin (the Bug). This band paired down into the more dub orientated ICE and TECHNO ANIMAL  whjch he contributed to in the mid 90s.Dave also helped out in the very early incarnation of Kevin Martin's THE BUG. The 00s saw him taking a break from actively being in any groups but he was touring bass player for JESU which paved the way for GREYMACHINE with Justin Broadrick & Aaron Turner (Isis). During this time he'd also formed TRANSITIONAL before playing in the band TERMINAL CHEESECAKE which he has done so for the past 10 years now. DBL#11 Jim Rushby and Steve Watson from Iron MonkeyThe band were formed in Nottingham in 1994 and were made up of members who had played in various punk and hardcore bands. They created a unique musical mix in the UK at that point in time, using the term 'sludge'.Over the course of their original five year run they experienced several line up changes but released a highly regarded self-titled debut CD, a full length album ‘Our Problem' on Earache and a split with Church of Misery on Man's Ruin Records.With a seemingly nihilistic attitude to both audience and press the band ploughed their own furrow in the UK scene until announcing their demise via a press release in 1999. Tragically in 2002 Iron Monkey frontman Johnny Morrow died of an unexpected heart attack.In 2016 founding members Jim and Steve restarted the band with Jim doing both guitar and vocals. They released the album 9/13 on Relapse Records in 2017. During the hiatus between albums they have secured a devout fanbase which has steadily grown during these intervening years.
