This week, in Framingham, Massachusetts, an upstanding, successful suburban couple appear to have it all. Great jobs, money in the bank, and a beautiful home, in a safe, leafy neighborhood. They appear to be on top of the world, until one night, the combination of burnt baked ziti, and an apparent invasion of body swapping enemy space alien vampires, who need to be thwarted, cause chaos to reign in this otherwise serene home. The murder is unimaginably horrible, giving even the investigators nightmares, for years to come. But will anyone believe the alien vampire stuff, or will this just go down as one of the sickest, most depraved acts in history??Along the way, we find out that Massachusetts is a little bit expensive, that even going to the best schools doesn't mean you're not a violent maniac, and that if you ever see an enemy space alien vampire, don't kill it!!Hosted by James Pietragallo and Jimmie WhismanNew episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports! Today. I have Chris DME on and Chris has done something fun and unique. He took the Bram Stoker classic of Dracula and rewrote it with gender, swapping all the roles and he turned it into a graphic novel. So I was really interested in this, cuz I love vampire stories. I've been involved in a vampire anthology, which should be coming out this October. And um, they're, they're just one of my favorite reads. Uh, I've enjoyed reading Dracula and uh, the sequel and prequel that Daker has done with JD Barker and uh, others. So. It was a, a fun talk. Uh, it was nice to hear about this and if you're interested in graphic novels, if you like vampires, this would be a good one to give a try. So here's Chris. Well, Chris, welcome to discovered word Smith. You said you're feeling a little under the weather today. Sorry about that. Hope. Hope you get better here. It's June. So before we talk about your book, tell us a little bit about yourself, where you live, what you like to do outside of writing, hobbies, that type of. [00:01:57] Chris: I live in Massachusetts in the Middlesex county area. I've been a writer for probably a DEC, you know, over a decade, including poetry as well. And at least going back to when I was like 19 now. And I've also been a, uh, the host of a radio show in Worcester mass for the last 15 [00:02:15] Stephen: years. Wow. Nice. What's the radio show about [00:02:20] Chris: called radio horror? [00:02:22] Stephen: What, what, what, what do you do on it? What's it. [00:02:25] Chris: It's called radio of horror. It's a horror thing. And radio show directors, actors, writers, musicians, come on the show. We interview them. Okay, cool. Plus playing music as well. Cause it is a, a broadcasting show on the dial. All right. [00:02:39] Stephen: And do you have any special hobbies or anything you do outside of your writing and podcast in that [00:02:45] Chris: that's taken up so much of my time. I mean, I ride my motorcycle. No, sir, that's really a hobby. I guess some people consider to be a hobby and I'm a avid comic book collector. Who's your [00:02:55] Stephen: favorite comic book series? That's [00:02:59] Chris: I don't know if I have a favorite series. Things have like been up and down and crazy in the comic book industry, but Spidermans, I'll just say Spiderman is my favorite comic book character. So [00:03:06] Stephen: I agree. I love Spiderman. He's been my favorite forever. My son works at a comic store, so I hear [00:03:11] Chris: all the new, I don't have one specific book.

On the outside, they were a successful and loving couple but what was going on behind closed doors finally came to a head on an August night in 1995. The murder of Laura Jane Rosenthal in her Framingham, Massachusetts home was so brutal and so savage that no one would believe the killer could be sane. The crime was so salacious media outlets dubbed it "The Burnt Ziti Murder" but it had so little to do with pasta and everything to do with a cold, controlling, and obsessive husband.Crime of the Truest KindOnline: CrimeoftheTruestKind.com Updates and show notes appear on the show page on crimeofthetruestkind.comEpisode 24 on YouTubeMusic from Joe onlyone Kowalksi and Andrew King appears in this episode. Hop Forward: Getting You Ahead in the Brewing and Beer Business
It's no secret that the hospitality industry, in places, has a problematic consumption of alcohol. Day for some are casually accompanied by beer from dawn till dusk, and excessive consumption of alcohol for those who work in brewing or hospitality is just one Imperial Stout away at the end of a long shift packaging or dispensing beer. But how does being around and working in beer and hospitality work when it comes to self-discipline and moderating your consumption? What’s an ‘appropriate’ level of weekly alcohol intake? Obviously, there are official medical guidelines issued, which you will find on packaged beer and - if you’re in the UK at drinkaware.co.uk - but also, without living in a totalitarian state, questions like these are up to each individual to answer for themselves. This is a subject that many brewers, bar-staff, and those in the business of beer sometimes shrug off. But deep down, we've all had darker moments when confronted by the reality that perhaps we are drinking too much. In today's episode of the Hop Forward Podcast - recorded during Dry January - I sat down with then-brewer for John Harvard's Brewery in Framingham MA, USA, Mike Souza, to have a frank and open conversation about alcoholism in the craft beer sector, and how some of the labels, which evoke powerful if somewhat negative images, are unhelpful when dealing with excessive consumption. If you are effected by today's episode and feel you need help, take a moment to visit The Drinks Trust; a charity that provides care and support to the people who form the drinks industry workforce. In light of our mindful drinking topic, today's brewery shoutouts go to two breweries who we believe are creating some of the best low-to-no ABV beers around: --- BIG DROP BREWING COMPANY Founded In 2016, Big Drop was the world’s first company to focus entirely on brewing Alcohol-Free craft beer. It’s all 0.5% ABV and they are now selling over 1 million bottles annually worldwide. Big Drop has so far picked up 26 international beer awards, including twice being judged the ‘World’s Best’ at the World Beer Awards, winning Gold at the US Open Beer Championship and, the ‘Holy Grail’ of any non-alcoholic drink, winning medals against full-strength rivals in blind tastings. The Core Range (Lager, Stout, IPA and Pale Ale) are now available in 330ml cans as well as bottles but they are also about to launch (1st June) two Summer Specials in 440ml cans – Poolside DDH IPA and Kodama IPA. While shiny new pumpers, ladders and rescues grab most of the headlines, the Shift Commander's Buggy, looks almost like another SUV. However, the person driving this vehicle has paid his/her "dues" and has been promoted to the position of Shift Commander. This interview with Dep. Chief (ret) Kevin Burns of the City of Framingham MA, is special to me, because I grew up in Framingham. And it was my exposure to the wonderful firefighters in my community as a child that planted the seed of my lifelong admiration for them. In this in-depth interview, Chief Burns takes us through the responsibilities of the Shift Commander at the three key levels on a major incident; before, during and after a fire. As you listen to Chief Burns, not only will you learn tactics, but he coaches us on how to think and act as a Commander; the highs from the job and the lows that creep in. If you have any notion of rising through the ranks to become a Shift Commander, Battalion Chief, etc., this is the podcast for YOU! My personal thanks to Chief Burns for his preparation for and dedication to making this podcast as informative and enjoyable as possible!
