A mighty angel asks who is worthy to open the scroll, but no one in heaven or on earth is found worthy, and John begins to weep. Then one of the elders tells him not to weep, for the Lion of the tribe of Judah has triumphed. John looks and sees a Lamb, standing as though slain. The Lamb comes and takes the scroll, and all of heaven erupts in worship. The living creatures and elders sing a new song, praising the Lamb for redeeming people from every tribe and nation. Countless angels join, declaring the Lamb worthy of power, wisdom, and honor. Heaven rejoices in the victory and worthiness of Jesus.  Christ alone is worthy and able to carry out the plans of God. We cannot save ourselves, and no one else in heaven or on earth has the power to redeem. When we feel unworthy or hopeless, we remember the Lamb who was slain and now stands in victory. Jesus gave His life to rescue people from every nation and bring them into the family of God. We belong to Him, and our lives have purpose because of what He has done. Our response must be worship, not just with words, but with obedience, trust, and love. We are called to live in awe of His sacrifice and to honor Him as the One with the power to unlock future blessings.   Mighty Father, You hold all things in Your hands, and Your plans are perfect and true. We praise You for sending the Lamb who is worthy to open the scroll and fulfill Your will. Thank You for redeeming people from every tribe and nation through His blood. When we feel lost or unworthy, remind us that Jesus has overcome and made us a kingdom of priests for Your glory. Fill our hearts with worship and gratitude. Help us live in a way that honors His sacrifice. May our lives reflect the worth of the Lamb and bring praise to Your name.  Thought Questions: The scroll symbolized future events for Christians. Why would it comfort believers to know that the Lamb could open that scroll? Jesus is pictured as both a Lion and a Lamb. What do each of those images mean to you, and how do they bring you enduring comfort? How do you give the Lamb honor and glory and blessing every day? What can help you make that a more abiding and vivid goal in life?

When the rush of Christmas leaves your heart feeling thin, Isaiah 9:6 offers the anchor every soul is truly craving. Beneath the wrapping paper, busy schedules, and pressure to “get it all right,” there’s a deeper longing—one only the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace can satisfy. Our hearts were never designed to be filled by productivity, perfection, or presents; they were made to be filled by Him. Highlights Cultural pressure can turn Christmas into a checklist instead of a celebration. Many feel a quiet inner ache during the holidays—a sign we’re longing for Christ, not more activity. Childhood traditions may be fun, but they can’t replace encountering Jesus personally. True Christmas joy comes from worship, gratitude, and seeking the One born to save us. Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy in His first coming—and will fulfill the rest at His return. Materialism can’t satisfy the soul; Christ alone brings peace, purpose, and rest. Full Transcript Below: Seeking Something More This Christmas By Vivian Bricker Bible Reading: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). During the Christmas season, it is common to get caught up in all the holiday preparations. We are so worried about buying gifts for everyone, preparing the Christmas dinner, and planning all the activities. All of this can become overwhelming and even take the joy of Christmas away from us. Rather than viewing Christmas as a day to celebrate our Savior, we see it as a stressful day, filled with obligations. Sadly, this is not unusual for most people living in the modern world. Productivity has become the baseline for us, and if we are not being productive all the time, we are somehow failing. Within the realm of the Christmas holiday, we feel that we are not being productive or efficient if we haven’t bought all the presents we need to buy and finished all our preparations. In other words, we feel we are somehow failing at Christmas if everything is not perfect according to this materialistic world. Similar to many people, I grew up with the view that Christmas was all about Santa Claus and gifts. However, even as a kid, I sometimes felt like there was something I was missing. As I became a teenager, I quickly saw how Christmas activities could turn sour when family members couldn't get along, and it made me more stressed about the holiday. I didn’t look forward to Christmas because I didn’t fully understand what it meant—I just associated it with stressful situations. By the end of my first semester in college, I had truly come to understand that Christmas is the celebration of the Lord’s birth into the world. Even if we don’t have gifts, fancy dinners, or elaborate activities, we can still worship, praise, and give thanks to the Lord. We will all eventually come to this reality. Our souls will hunger and thirst for something more on Christmas if we genuinely do not know the Lord. Our own family traditions and celebrations can be fun, but if they are not rooted in honoring Christ, our souls will continue to yearn for more. You may have already felt this, and you are ready to make a change. Talk with Him in prayers, read and study the Bible, and seek out trusted sources to learn more about Him. Jesus will reveal Himself to you and help satisfy your spiritual hunger. Intersecting Faith & Life: Isaiah prophesied, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus is the child who was born into the world. He is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy when He came into the world. There are many other prophecies He fulfilled during His first coming, and He will fulfill even more prophecies during His second coming. Christmas is a time to seek out the truth of the Lord as well as to look forward to His return. He will return, which means we need to be ready (Revelation 16:15). This Christmas, let us focus on seeking the Lord. We don’t need to try to satisfy our yearning hearts with materialism. Instead, we need to turn to the Lord and truly celebrate Him. Our hearts, souls, and entire beings can worship Him. Seek Him this Christmas and ensure your heart is following Him. If you have not placed your faith in Jesus yet, know that you can do so today. Confess your sins to Him, ask Him to be your Savior, repent, and follow Him. You can start a new life today and walk in accordance with the Lord. Allow Jesus to bring your heart what it truly needs this Christmas and every other day of the year: His love. Jesus will fulfill our hearts' desires better than anyone or anything else. How might you return to Him this Christmas rather than turning to materialism? Wednesday December 10, 2025II Week of AdventToday's Advent Reading:Amos 8:1–4; Revelation 1:17–2:7; Matthew 23:1–12**In **Amos 8:1–4**, the vision of ripe fruit reveals a people who had reached a critical moment. God exposes injustice, complacency, and hearts hardened toward the poor. Advent reminds us that waiting for the Lord also means examining our lives—asking where repentance and renewal are needed. In **Revelation 1:17–2:7**, John falls at the feet of the risen Christ, overwhelmed by His glory. Jesus comforts him—*“Do not be afraid”*—and then speaks to the church in Ephesus, commending their perseverance but calling them back to their first love. Advent invites us not just to endure in faith, but to **love deeply and passionately once again**.In **Matthew 23:1–12**, Jesus warns against religious pride and self-promotion. True greatness in God's kingdom is found in humility and service, not titles or recognition. Advent reshapes our ambitions, teaching us to prepare for the King by becoming servants.Together, today's readings call us to honest repentance, renewed love for Christ, and humble devotion as we await His coming. The King is near—let our hearts be ready.

We invite you to begin this holiday season with some child-like wonder through the magic of Christmas stories.  We will not only look at the birth accounts of the Savior, but at the whole of our story; from even before Genesis through to Revelation.  And we will do so spring boarding off the famous story written in 1843 by Charles Dickens called, A Christmas Carol. A Christmas Carol begins with a death and forces the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, to evaluate his life.  As a part of this journey, Scrooge is given an odd gift; he's able to explore his past, present, and future.  He's able to remember what happened to him as a child and how it shaped him.  Then he gets to see his present with a view of who he has become; a crotchety old man who cares about little else than making a profit.  Along the way, however, it seems that this crotchety old man wants to be something more, do something more, but what? How? Finally, Scrooge gets the opportunity to see what his future will be should he continue down his current life path.  When he wakes up from this dream, he is convinced; he must change.  He chooses to be different.  You might even say, he repents and becomes a new creation, one who celebrates the joy of Christmas by taking care of others. In a similar fashion, we will look at the thread of the Christ story, and our story, by looking all the way back to Christmas Past, before the foundations of the world.  Then, we will look to Christmas Present, exploring where the choices of His creation led the God of creation.  Then, should we choose to believe in this magical and wonder-filled story of Christmas, we can then peak into our Christmas future, a future secured by what God has done for us.  There, we will see what this God of love and grace has in store for us all.   May the telling and reimagining of this story, the Christmas story, bring much needed light into every corner of our world today. I look forward to the journey, and to spending Christmas…together!

Welcome to Episode #193 of the Way of the Bible podcast. This is our first of eight episodes in our Twenty-Fifth mini-series entitled The Return of Jesus Christ [4]. On today's episode, we will begin to explore the reason for a Christian's anticipation of the second coming of Jesus. That reason is tied up in the prophetic fulfillment of Isaiah 25:8 as referenced by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:54 – Death has been swallowed up in victory.Isaiah 25:7-8 – On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. This is a profound topic, Death, so we're going to take it in two parts. On this episode, we'll address the origin of death and why it is so hideous and has eternal consequences. In our next episode, we'll explore how Jesus conquered death and offers eternal life to all who believe. With that, let's jump into the deep end. The devil is a liar and has been deceiving mankind from the beginning. Jesus speaks of this in John 8:44 – You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He [devil] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him [devil]. When he [devil] lies, he [devil] speaks his [devil] native language, for he [devil] is a liar and the father of lies. Did you hear all that? Jesus is affirming the devil is not only a real being; he is actively acting as a deceiving and disruptive force in the world and in our lives daily. This is where, sadly, for most in the visible church and many believers, a disconnect happens in their faith that directly impacts their walk of faith. When referreing to the devil in this John 8 passage, Jesus is referring to the creation narrative presented in Genesis Chapter 3. In that passage, the devil [called the serpent in Genesis 3] deceives Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, which she gives to Adam who was with her, and when Adam ate the fruit, both Adam and Eve died spiritually. The devil murdered them both and has continued murdering humanity up to this very day with his lies and deceptions. For completeness, the devil has several names in the Bible, which are identified in Revelation  20:2 – He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. What I am speaking of is the devil's agents in the world and in the church who have convinced most in the visible church that the creation narrative, and to be honest, most if not all of the five books of Moses and Old Testament prophetic texts are myths made up by ancient writers. The devil deceives those holding such positions that they are above the Scriptures, above God himself, as Jesus, who is God, mentioned to those opposing him. They thought they were so superior to Jesus that they had him crucified.Let me hit this a little harder before I continue, as the basis of my presentation proceeds from the creation narrative. In the John 8 passage just quoted above, Jesus told the Jews he was speaking with that they were children of the devil. How can that be? Isn't everyone a child of God? The simple answer is NO! Everyone is not a child of God. Everyone was created individually by God after the image of Adam who was created in the Image and likeness of God. Eve herself was of Adam, taken from his rib.Let me demonstrate this once again using the words of Jesus, who would know the truth. Jesus told a parable about seeds sown on four different types of ground and how those seeds responded to the word of God.  For the seed sown on the first type of ground Jesus explains in Luke 8:12 – Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.

Reach Out: Please include your email and I will get back to you. Thanks!Revelation 4 John is taken in the Spirit to a vision of heaven, where a throne sits at the center, surrounded by glory and awe. The One on the throne, the Father, shines with the brilliance of precious stones, and a rainbow like an emerald encircles Him. Around the throne are twenty-four elders dressed in white with golden crowns, and flashes of lightning and peals of thunder come from the throne. Seven blazing torches represent the Spirit of God. Four living creatures, full of eyes and with different faces—a lion, an ox, a man, and an eagle—continually worship, declaring God as holy. The elders fall before Him, casting their crowns and praising Him as the Creator of all things. Heaven revolves around the glory and worthiness of the almighty God.  We are shown that worship starts with seeing God as He truly is. He sits on the throne, full of majesty, surrounded by beauty, power, and ongoing praise. We often get distracted by what is happening around us, but Revelation lifts our eyes to what is happening above us. God is not shaken by anything on earth. He reigns with glory and authority. We are called to respond like the elders, laying down our crowns and honoring Him. Everything we have comes from Him, and everything exists for His purpose. When we see God clearly, our hearts become more humble, our worship becomes more sincere, and our lives are reshaped around His greatness, not our own comfort or pride.  Glorious God, You are seated on the throne, full of majesty and surrounded by endless praise. You are holy, worthy, and exalted above all. The heavens declare Your greatness, and all creation exists by Your will. Help us see You as You are, to lift our eyes above the noise of this world, and to worship You with sincere hearts. Teach us to lay down our pride, our desires, and our crowns before You. Fill us with awe and reverence. May our lives reflect the glory we see in You, and may our hearts never grow tired of praising Your name.  Thought Questions: How do you picture the Father sitting on the throne? If you imagined approaching Him when you pray, how might that benefit you? What do you believe the twenty-four elders and four creatures represent? Regardless, what does their worship say about God? Why is God worthy to receive glory, honor, and power? What does it look like in your life to present those things humbly to Him?

Welcome to our Reveal podcast,Today's we are digging in deep, Overcoming Babylon a powerful symbol found throughout Scripture, especially in the book of Revelation. In the Bible, Babylon isn't just an ancient empire. It becomes a spiritual picture of a world system set against God built on pride, corruption, oppression, and the seduction of false security. Babylon represents anything that pulls the human heart away from loyalty to Christ. So, how do believers overcome Babylon?According to Revelation, they do it through faithfulness to Jesus, even when the culture pushes in the opposite direction. It's not about escaping the world, but about refusing to let the world's values define us. Followers of Christ overcome Babylon by:Holding to God's truth instead of being shaped by deceptionLiving with purity and integrity, rather than compromiseWorshiping God alone, not the idols of power, comfort, or selfPersevering through pressure, knowing that Christ ultimately winsRevelation paints a clear picture: Babylon may look powerful, glamorous, and unshakable but it's temporary. Its fall reminds us that only God's kingdom stands forever. To support this ministry and help us continue our God-given mission, click here:Subscribe to our channel for the latest sermons:https://www.youtube.com/@revealvineyardLearn more about Vineyard Church Reveal Campus:https://www.revealvineyard.com/Follow us on social media!Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/vineyardrevealcampus Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/RevealVineyard

Reach Out: Please include your email and I will get back to you. Thanks!Revelation 3 Jesus continues His message to the churches, addressing Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. To Sardis, He warns that they have a reputation for being alive but are actually spiritually dead. He calls them to wake up, strengthen what remains, and repent before He comes like a thief. To Philadelphia, He offers no rebuke but encourages them to hold fast, promising protection and honor for their faithfulness. He places before them an open door of opportunity for service that no one can shut. To Laodicea, He issues a stern warning, rebuking their lukewarm faith. He urges them to become zealous and repent. Though He stands at the door and knocks, He will only come in if invited. Each message ends with a promise to those who overcome, listening to the Spirit's wisdom.  We are called to examine the true state of our hearts. It is possible to appear strong in faith while drifting far from God. Jesus sees beyond our reputation and invites us to wake up, repent, and return to what is lasting. We must not settle for a lukewarm life. He desires that we walk in full devotion, not half-hearted belief. When we remain faithful, even with little strength, He opens doors that no one can close. We do not earn these promises, but we are invited to respond with faith and endurance. Jesus stands at the door, ready to come in. We must choose to listen, respond with humility, and walk in renewed fellowship with Him each day.  All-powerful God, You see us as we truly are. You know when we are strong, and You know when we have grown cold or distant. Thank You for sharing the power of Jesus and calling us to serve Him more faithfully. Wake us up when we become complacent. Give us courage to repent and strength to follow through. Help us not to live for appearances but to walk in genuine faith and devotion. When we feel weak, remind us that You are with us. May our hearts remain open to Your correction. Come close to us as we turn to You.  Thought Questions: What does it say to Jesus to want white garments in glory, but soil your garments in this life? Why must you choose holiness now? If your deeds are faithful, how might God open a door for you that no one can close? What does that mean, and has He already done so? What is “lukewarm”? Why does Jesus advise such a one to buy gold, garments, and eye salve from Him? What does He mean by that?

I Work at Starbucks (Eric Ludy)Originally recorded in 2024 as a part of his series Spiritual Lessons from the Time of Nero, Eric lays the foundation for understanding this extraordinary time period of history (from 64 to 70 AD) and the way that knowing this human history can actually impact the lens that a student of Scripture wears in interpreting the text of the Book of Revelation. Utilizing a humorous misunderstanding regarding his possible employment at Starbucks, he unpacks the very real schism the Body of Christ today experiences over this apocalyptic vision. He also shows how it is actually quite reasonable to come to differing viewpoints on the matters in question inside this mysterious book. Leverage Your Incredible Factor Business Podcast with Darnyelle Jervey Harmon, MBA

This episode is powered by SANCTUARY, the sacred recalibration for high-achieving CEOs who are ready to feel safe with leadership, safe with success, safe with their identity, and—most importantly—safe with money and wealth. Sanctuary is where the next season of you begins. “Your business will always expose what you haven't healed. This season wasn't about performance. It was about presence. About becoming. About finally choosing to embody what I teach—that success that costs you your soul isn't success at all. Season Six was the moment I stopped running… and started resting inside of myself. In this intimate season recap, I'm not giving you a traditional highlight reel. I'm sharing the truth behind the scenes—the surrender, the softness, the sacred recalibration that changed everything. I talk about the burnout I had to acknowledge, the blind spots that surfaced, and the resistance that revealed the deeper work God is still doing in me. This is the real story behind the slower launches, the quieter growth, and the massive internal expansion that became the birthplace of SANCTUARY. This is for every CEO who's in transition, who's hearing God whisper “slow down,” and who needs a reminder that recalibration is still movement. If you've ever asked, "Why is this taking so long?" or "Why don't I feel safe in my own success?" this episode is your mirror and your medicine. I'm not here to give you a highlight reel. I'm here to give you the real of what it looks like when God develops your character to match your calling. If you've ever felt like you were behind… if you've ever watched God slow down your plans to speed up your purpose… if you're in the middle of a recalibration that doesn't make sense yet—this episode will remind you that you are not alone, and you are not off course. If you've been navigating recalibration, stillness, nervous system tension, spiritual stretching, money leaks, burnout, identity dissonance, or the call to step out of being a “moment” and finally embody your movement—this conversation will meet you exactly where your spirit has been whispering. This is the Season Six recap, but it is also your prophetic roadmap into 2026—overflow, alignment, safety, identity, sanctuary, seven-figure embodiment, regulated leadership, divine timing and the spiritual architecture of scaling. Here's the truth: You can't hold legacy until you can hold yourself. And you can't lead others to overflow if your nervous system is still surviving. God isn't rushing you. He's anchoring you. And what He builds through you will last longer, reach farther, and bless more because of the season that slowed you down You'll walk with permission to redefine success as safety and sustainability, new language for your recalibration season—without shame and spiritual, somatic, and strategic insights for becoming your own sanctuary. Grab your Move to Millions Podcast Notebook, a pen and your favorite beverage and listen in to discover: ✔ How to honor your body's need for rest without self-sabotaging growth ✔ How to shift from external productivity to internal alignment ✔ How to let go of timelines and trust the divine pace of your evolution ✔And so much more This episode is a call to stop glorifying the grind and start honoring the grace. To build your business at the speed of your body. To stop chasing alignment and finally become the alignment. It's an invitation into a new rhythm—where regulation and revelation replace the rush. Where your wealth is a reflection of your wholeness. And where you become the sanctuary that holds your next level. This is your invitation to witness my process, and reflect on your own. You're not behind—you're being refined. This episode will shift how you see your delays, redefine how you measure growth, and remind you that becoming a sanctuary is the secret to building a business that can hold more without costing you everything. I was being prepared.” “Sometimes the most strategic thing you can do is stop and let God finish what He started.”  Questions to Ask Yourself While Listening: Where did I confuse movement with motion this year? What assumptions have I made about God's instruction that need to be recalibrated? Where do I still glorify being booked and busy instead of spacious and steady? What did this year develop in me that I haven't acknowledged yet? Where in my business am I still performing instead of embodying? How do I respond when God slows things down? MAGA - The Book of Trump In the grand theater of the cosmos, where divine order clashes with rebellious pride, the story of heaven's original exile sets the stage for every tale of downfall that follows. Picture Lucifer, the morning star, once a radiant cherub among the highest ranks of angels, anointed to guard God's holy mountain, his beauty and wisdom unmatched until iniquity twisted his heart like a serpent coiling around the throne. As the prophet Isaiah thundered in chapter 14, verses 12 through 15, Lucifer declared five defiant "I wills"—to ascend above the heights of the clouds, to exalt his throne above the stars of God, to be like the Most High himself. This was not mere ambition; it was hubris incarnate, a cosmic coup born of envy and entitlement, rallying a third of the heavenly hosts in a war that shook the foundations of eternity. Revelation 12 paints the cataclysm: Michael and his angels clashed with the dragon and his fallen legion, hurling the great deceiver, that ancient serpent called Satan, down to the earth like lightning from the sky, his place in heaven found no more. Doug Cobb, founder of The Finishing Fund, is passionately convicted that we could see the fulfillment of the Great Commission in our generation. In 1994, Doug's life was changed when he joined Paul Eshleman and the Jesus Film Project for a trip to Nigeria where he caught the vision to see completely unengaged people groups reached with the Gospel. Utilizing his background in startups and venture capital, Doug eventually founded The Finishing Fund, a venture capital fund for the Great Commission, connecting donors to projects intended to reach the unengaged with the Gospel for the first time. In the last eight years, The Finishing Fund has helped get the Gospel to about 800 people groups who had never heard it before.   In his most recent book, The Sprint to the Finish, Doug discusses three major finish lines that need to be crossed to fulfill the Great Commission—seeing a first Believer in every known people group, a Bible translated into every language, and a church established in every village on Earth. To date, there are only 20 unengaged people groups left in the world, and by God's grace, The Finishing Fund and its collaborative partners have a shared goal to see the entire world reached with the Gospel by 2033.   Doug's conviction is simple but bold: The mission Jesus gave us can be completed in this generation, and God is already making it happen. If you want a front row seat to what God is doing around the world right now, you won't want to miss this episode.   Major Topics Include: Three finish lines to completing the Great Commission The current state of Gospel work in the world Comparing approaches—church planting and disciple making Stories of signs, wonders, and miracles drawing people to Jesus Fueling the Gospel spark in a community The biggest obstacles to fulfilling Great Commission What operational collaboration looks like The evangelistic power of a new Believer The Great Wealth Transfer and the Great Commission Looking forward to the return of Jesus QUOTES TO REMEMBER “The statistics tell us that most Christians sitting in churches can't even tell you what the great commission is, much less can they tell you anything about what's happening.” “I think we're within a year or two by God's grace of seeing the work begun in every people group.” “God is preparing people of peace in these places and it's almost like the Spirit is there tapping His toe and waiting for us to show up to close the deal. He's already working in the hearts and minds of people to prepare them.” “When God's people are willing to go, Jesus will go with them.” “Why would the Spirit not do today what He did way back then to validate the testimony of Paul and the other apostles?” “I don't think it's coincidental that God has created this wealth in the last days at a time when it's needed, and that creates an enormous responsibility for our generation.” “This generation has more than we need to complete the Great Commission.” LINKS FROM THE SHOW The Sprint to the Finish by Doug Cobb The Finishing Fund (see our interview with founder Doug Cobb) Jesus Film Project (see our interview with Executive Director Josh Newell) Finishing the Task (see our interview with FTT Global Church Planting Strategist Dan Hitzhusen) IllumiNations Bible Translation Alliance (see our interview with Todd Peterson or John Chesnut) ACHIEVE Alliance New Covenant Missions Coalition of the Willing Jim Wise, Financial Advisor with Ronald Blue Trust (see our past interview here) The Finish Line Community Facebook Group The Finish Line Community LinkedIn Group BIBLE REFERENCES FROM THE SHOW Luke 16:10a | Faithfulness   One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much,   Matthew 28:19 | The Great Commission   Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,   Matthew 24:14 | Then the End Will Come   And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.   Revelation 7:9-10 | Every Nation, Tribe, and Tongue   After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”   Acts 1:8 | Power to Witness   But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Monday December 8, 2025Week 2 of AdventToday's Advent Reading: Amos 7:1–9; Revelation 1:1–8; Matthew 22:22–33In Amos 7:1–9, we hear the sobering visions God gives Amos—pictures of locusts, fire, and a plumb line—revealing a God who measures His people with truth and calls them back before it's too late. Judgment isn't God's desire, but His warning is a mercy. In Revelation 1:1–8, we lift our eyes to the One who was, and is, and is to come—Jesus Christ, the faithful witness and ruler of the kings of the earth. Advent reminds us we're not just looking back to His first coming… we're preparing for His return. And in Matthew 22:22–33, Jesus silences the Sadducees with a breathtaking reminder: God is the God of the living. In a season that points to hope, Jesus anchors us in the reality of resurrection and the life to come.Come expectant. He is coming again.

“He took him outside and said, ‘Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.' Then he said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.'” (Genesis 15:5 NIV)Hello sweet friends! Instead of Mothering Monday, we're sharing a special December teaching inside your Mothering Kit called “Beneath the Starry Nights.”In this beautiful seven-day devotional, Macy invites us to look up just like the moms, shepherds, patriarchs, and prophets did throughout Scripture—and remember the awe and wonder of God written in the skies. From Genesis to Revelation, we see His story stretched across the heavens, reminding us of His majesty, His power, and His tender care for each one of us.This month, as you read, meditate, and “chew” on the Word like a peaceful little sheep, we pray you feel God's nearness and His delight over you. He knows every star by name… and He knows you by name.

How did ancient biographies narrate the births of their subjects? In this episode, Helen and Lloyd are joined in the Time Machine by Dr Caleb Friedeman, who has set out to explore how biographers described their subject's infancy. Contrary to modern readers, who often read birth account in ancient lives as works of myth and theology rather than history, Friedeman argues that ancient biographers described the births of their heroes with serious historiographic intent. As we approach Christmas, Helen and Lloyd ask Caleb what this might mean for how ancient readers viewed the stories of Jesus' birth in Matthew and Luke. Caleb T. Friedeman is David A. Case Chair of Biblical Studies at Ohio Christian University. He is the author of The Revelation of the Messiah: The Christology Mystery of Luke 1-2 and Its Unveiling in Luke-Acts (SNTSMS 181) and his new book is Gospel Birth Narratives: Reopening a Closed Case (Baylor University Press, 2025) which explores historiographical elements in ancient birth stories.  SUPPORT BIBLICAL TIME MACHINEIf you enjoy the podcast, please (pretty please!) consider supporting the show through the Time Travellers Club, our Patreon. The lamb has taken the scroll from the one seated on throne and has opened the first six of its seven seals. Today, the lamb opens the seventh seal. After a period of silence, seven angels with seven trumpets appear. With each successive trumpet blast a series natural disasters and plagues occur reminiscent of the plagues released upon Egypt in the time of Moses. After six of the seven trumpets have been blown, we are told that those who survived these plagues remain unrepentant of their works of lawlessness. As we read, keep in mind that the number seven often represents perfection or completion in Scripture.  :::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by the Christian Standard Biblefacebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org

A New Beginning with Greg Laurie
Christmas: The Story Before the Story | Sunday Message

A New Beginning with Greg Laurie

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 7, 2025 40:42

There’s more to the Christmas story than you may realize. There’s a prequel... In this message, Pastor Greg Laurie brings us to the story of a godly, elderly couple named Zechariah and Elizabeth, parents of John the Baptist. Notes: Luke 1 Luke gives us the prequel, the story before the story. Luke opens by saying, “In the days of Herod.”That’s like saying, “In Germany, in the days of Hitler.” Heaven’s light was about to break. Read Luke 1:5–17 Luke’s narrative finds Israel in the midst of a long night of spiritual darkness. Israel was now under the control of mighty and cruel Rome. But there was something in the air that things were about to change. A promise to Israel of better days to come – Malachi 4:2 NIVBut for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. Malachi 3:1 NIV“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the LORD Almighty. John the Baptist was the bridge between the Old Testament and the New Testament. God was now going to answer the prayer and heart cry of Israel. God sent the mighty angel Gabriel. The last appearance of an angel had been to the prophet Zechariah nearly five centuries earlier. Whenever angels appeared, they would say, “Do not be afraid!” Gabriel came to an elderly couple, Zacharias and Elizabeth. The name Zacharias means, “God remembers.”Elizabeth means, “My God is an oath.” God remembers His promises and always keeps His word. God was making up for lost time, and He gave them a baby like no other,John the Baptist. #1 Zacharias was a humble man. James 4:6 ESV“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” The obsession with ourselves is at the root of our problems. The humble Zacharias was a country priest. There were many priests in Israel at this time.To be a priest meant you represented the people to God. The priest also represented God to the people. The priest would interpret scripture, counsel, and provide wise judgment for the people. I understand that I, too, am a representative of God to people. You, too, are a priest. And you, too, represent God to people. You are the only bible some people will ever read. #2 Zacharias was a faithful man. God called:Moses, when he was tending sheep.David, while he was watching sheep,Elijah, when he was plowingPeter and John, when they were mending nets.God calls busy people. It’s hard to steer a parked car. If you are faithful in small things, God will give you greater opportunities. God has given to every believer spiritual gifts. Romans 12:6 NLTGod has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. Romans 12:7 NLTIf your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. Romans 12:8 NLTIf your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. Paul told Timothy to “not neglect the gift that is in you.” Zacharias was faithful to do what God had set before him. #3 Zacharias and Elizabeth were godly and blameless people. Luke 1:6 NKJVAnd they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. To be blameless does not mean they were sinless. They lived lives of integrity, not perfection. “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” Not to have any children was thought to be a curse from God. Little did they know that God would answer their prayers and give them a prophet. Their son, John, would be the greatest prophet of the Old Testament. Perhaps you are going through a time of difficulty right now. God was preparing Zacharias and Elizabeth for this day, and now the reward for faithfulness has come. Luke 1:13 NKJVBut the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. God hears our prayers as well. God promises us that if we call out to Him, He will hear and answer.Psalm 34:15 Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Just because our prayers are not answered does not mean God does not hear them. There is an amazing story in Daniel 10 where a mighty angel appeared before the prophet. The angel told Daniel that the prophet’s prayer had been heard in heaven 21 days earlier. God’s delays are not necessarily his denials. The devil and his fallen angels are very active right now. Revelation 12:12b NIVThe devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury because he knows that his time is short. The bible tells us that in the last days there would be “satanically energized times” and that things would go from bad to worse. So, what should we do in light of this?We need to use our two secret weapons, preaching and prayer. We have no idea of what is going on in the invisible world of angels and demons.Revelation 8:3–4 God hears and stores our prayers; not one is wasted. Every prayer is answered with either yes, no, or wait. God is aware of each and every request made for His glory and in His will. God heard and recorded the prayer of this godly couple. Zacharias prayed for 30 years for a son.The reason he was surprised when Gabriel came was because he had prayed for so long. In the same way, your prayers are in God’s to-do box.Even if you have forgotten about them, God has not. Don’t give up on your prayers. This happened with the believers praying for the deliverance of Simon Peter. When the answer to their prayer arrived, they did not believe it. #4 Zacharias was human and flawed just like us! Luke 1:18 NKJVAnd Zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.” Luke 1:19 NKJVAnd the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. Luke 1:20 NKJV“But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words.” Zacharias could have rejoiced, but instead he questioned. We can choose to worship God, or we can choose to question God. It’s not a bad thing for a Christian to struggle or even ask God, “Why?” Some people have experienced tragedy and disappointment and have questions for God. But there comes a point when we choose to trust. Even John the Baptist had a momentary doubt. He misunderstood the mission of the Messiah like so many others. John, the greatest Old Testament prophet, sitting in a dungeon, sent word to Jesus, “Are You the One, or should we look for another?” Jesus reassured John and sent him back to the scriptures. Zacharias couldn’t speak, so he tried to explain what happened through hand gestures.Luke 1:21 Lessons from the lives of Zacharias and Elizabeth:To be humble and wait on the Lord and serve HimTo keep praying and not give up because our prayers are heard and rememberedTo believe what God tells you and act in faith, not by feeling The biblical characters were quite ordinary. They were hopelessly human, remarkably unremarkable. They were also available and obedient to the Master’s call. A 1964 Aston Martin sold for $4.6 million. The value is not in the car, but in the one who drove it. The same is true of us. The value isn’t in the vessel; it’s in the One who fills it. For centuries, the world waited. For decades, a faithful couple prayed. And at just the right time, God said, “Now!” Maybe you’ve been praying for something. Your “now” can begin today. — Become a Harvest Partner today and join us in knowing God and making Him known through media and large-scale evangelism, our mission of over 30 years.
