Ever wonder if your trauma means you're destined to parent imperfectly? In today's episode, Theraplay expert Dafna Lender shares how all parents mess up - and that's actually okay!As a clinical psychologist and post-traumatic parent myself, I was fascinated by Dafna's perspective on how we can provide healthy childhoods despite our own wounds. She compassionately explains why parents with trauma histories often experience such crushing self-doubt and offers practical ways to rebuild connection through play. What struck me most was Dafna's story about a mother and adopted daughter who transformed their relationship over two years of treatment - proving healing is possible even in the most challenging circumstances. If you've ever frozen during a parenting moment, felt triggered by your child's behavior, or wondered if you're "too damaged" to parent well, this conversation will reassure you that repair is always possible. You'll learn why those moments when your kids push your buttons can become opportunities for growth rather than shame.Topics covered on Theraplay:How does parental trauma affect our ability to be responsive to our children's needs? Why do we feel like our children are "triggering" us, and what can we do about those moments? What happens when professionals exclude parents from their child's therapy sessions? How can theraplay help rebuild damaged relationships between parents and children? Why do parents without secure attachment models experience more self-doubt?How can we explain our trauma responses to our children in age-appropriate ways? How long does it really take to repair damaged attachments between parents and children?Connect with me on Instagram @dr.koslowitzpsychology and don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel Post Traumatic Parenting. For full show notes and more resources visit https://www.drrobynkoslowitz.com/2025/05/09/theraplay-healin…ith-dafna-lender

Studios, Dafna has overseen hundreds of issues, helping launch award-winning titles like Lumberjanes, Fence, Seven Secrets, and Goldie Vance. She's worked with major creators including Tom Taylor, Mark Waid, and Kieron Gillen, and has shepherded beloved franchises such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dune, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, and Power Rangers.Dafna's creative journey began at UCLA, where she majored in English after pivoting from microbiology and discovering her strengths lay in storytelling, not science labs. A lifelong comics fan, she broke into the industry through sheer hustle—running a podcast to score a press pass to Comic-Con, then turning that passion project into a marketing job at BOOM! and eventually into an editorial career. In this episode, Dafna reveals what it really means to be an editor in comics—from juggling creators and licensors to surviving the relentless pace of monthly publishing. We talk about the role of stress in the creative process, the economics behind launching a successful comic, and how great editors build trust, teams, and stories that resonate. I think you'll enjoy this week's BEHIND THE LENS and the films we are discussing, but more than that, the filmmakers and actors I'm speaking with. Some jam-packed interviews today as we kick things off with my exclusive interview with actors CLAES BANG and JONAH HAUER-KING, together with writer/director NICK HAMM talking about his beautiful epic WILLIAM TELL. And then you'll hear from writer and executive producer CHARLENE DAVIS and director/producer DAFNA YACHIN discussing their new film, RELATIVE CONTROL. This first interview is one of those times I wish we could have done the interview in person; of course, I wish that with every interview. But in this case, these three gentlemen are so much fun and have such a wonderful rapport that I know that being together in person would have been an even bigger blast than what you're about to hear. I'm talking about CLAES BANG, JONAH HAUER-KING, and NICK HAMM and their wonderful film, WILLIAM TELL. Written and directed by Nick, based on the play by Friedrich Schiller, they have beautifully married history and legend and brought it to life in an indelible epic result. Then we shift gears and dive into RELATIVE CONTROL with the women behind this gem – director DAFNA YACHIN and screenwriter CHARLENE DAVIS. As you'll hear, Charlene and Dafna break down the film from script to screen. Written by Charlene, the script – her first after a decades long career as an attorney – is based on Charlene's personal experiences – was developed over a few years and speaks to not only the challenges of caring for aging parents, but caring for yourself as time marches on and the responsibility for caring for your parents overtakes one's own life. There is some magical casting here with Teri Polo as Sara and Patrick McDade as Sara's father Joe. Their chemistry truly captures the dynamic of a daughter and father navigating complex family dynamics. While Charlene focuses more on the script, Dafna dives into Anthony Berenato Jr's cinematography, developing a visual tonal bandwidth of lightness and bright tones versus the heavier subject matter, working with editor John Knapich, and some of the production challenges which involved a 14-day shoot, the impact of the pandemic, and shooting in 100 degree Delaware heat in July and August with the film set in the Fall/Winter. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Send us a textOn April 11, 2025, Gravitas Ventures ( https://gravitasventures.com/ ) will be releasing the movie Relative Control ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBq2dOcgUKA ), a family drama that follows the life a middle-age corporate attorney (played by Teri Polo of the Meet the Parents) whose life literally spirals out of control as she juggles the demands of her career, her family, and most importantly the care of her aging parents, which includes a very headstrong and accident-prone father. Relative Control is a wonderful film that gets into a range of themes, including the complex world of unpaid caregiving, the principal of the “sandwich generation” (a term for adults who care for both their aging parents and their children, as well as provide financial support for them and embark on a career), as well as themes of intergenerationality, dementia care, and end-of-life/palliative care, among others.

What happens when your publisher holds your book hostage? In this episode of Leveraging Thought Leadership, Bill Sherman speaks with Michael Jenet, author of "Ask: The Questions to Empower Your Life" and founder of Journey Institute Press, about his grueling battle to reclaim the rights to his books after a new publisher took control. Michael's story isn't just one of frustration—it's about standing on principle and creating a new path for authors. After years of legal battles, Michael and his wife and fellow author Dafna managed to regain their rights, but the ordeal sparked a deeper question: How could they prevent this from happening to others? That's when they decided to start their own publishing company, Journey Institute Press, with a mission to put authors first and offer a more ethical, nonprofit-driven publishing model. They learned valuable lessons about the evolving book market, and now, they're helping first-time authors navigate the complex world of publishing with integrity and sustainability. Michael also shares key insights about long-term book marketing. Forget the one-time launch event at your local bookstore—today, it's about leveraging multiple formats, influencers, and long-term strategies to keep your book relevant. Whether you're launching a hardcover, paperback, ebook, or audiobook, the goal is the same: get your book into as many hands as possible and keep the conversation going for years. For aspiring authors, Michael offers this critical advice: start building your audience before the book is even written. Marketing falls on the author, so engage your readers early, find where they are, and get them excited long before launch day. Three Key Takeaways: • Own Your Rights: Michael Jenet's battle to reclaim his book rights highlights the importance of authors fully understanding and protecting their intellectual property in the publishing world. Don't assume your publisher will always have your best interests at heart. • Long-Term Book Strategy: Successful book launches go beyond a one-day event. Michael emphasizes the importance of thinking long-term, using multiple formats and engaging influencers to ensure your book stays relevant for years, not just during the initial release. • Build Your Audience Early: Authors can't rely solely on publishers for marketing. Start building a community around your book early on, even while you're still writing. This will drive excitement and help ensure a successful launch. These insights highlight the need for authors to take charge of both their rights and their marketing strategies to succeed in today's publishing landscape. If you have a book on the horizon and are seeking a solid thought leadership approach to marketing, reach out to Leveraging Thought Leadership to discuss how we can help.

Timestamped summary of this episode: 00:00:40 - The Challenge of Nighttime Eating, Many women struggle with nighttime eating, feeling in control during the day but losing control at night. This can lead to negative emotions, self-doubt, and a lack of confidence in achieving goals. 00:03:49 - The Psychological Impact of Nighttime Eating, Nighttime eating can perpetuate negative self-talk and beliefs, leading to feelings of failure and a lack of control. This mindset can spill into other areas of life and hinder progress. 00:07:37 - The Physiological Impact of Nighttime Eating, Eating at night can lead to weight gain, health problems, and specifically weight gain in the midsection. The body metabolizes nighttime calories differently, storing them as fat instead of using them for energy. 00:12:35 - Reasons for Nighttime Eating, Nighttime eating can stem from true hunger, skipped meals during the day, emotional reasons, habit, or even physiological imbalances. Identifying the underlying reasons can help address and change the behavior. 00:13:57 - Reasons for Eating at Night, People may eat at night because they skip meals during the day or because the composition of their meals is incorrect, leading to poor blood sugar control and cravings. Another common reason for nighttime eating is for emotional comfort and short-term gratification. 00:16:34 - Strategies for Managing Nighttime Eating, Three strategies for managing nighttime eating are meal mapping, where you plan your meals for the next day and stick to the plan; having some of the crave food earlier in the day to reduce the forbidden food halo; and having a fat or protein-based snack when you get home to prevent excessive hunger. 00:18:00 - Breaking the Cycle of Emotional Nighttime Eating, Emotional nighttime eating can be challenging to break because it is often deeply ingrained. However, with the right strategies and commitment, it is possible to change this habit and regain control over nighttime eating. 00:19:40 - The Power of Meal Mapping, Meal mapping is a powerful strategy where you plan your meals for one day in advance and stick to the plan. This helps to regain confidence and trust in yourself while making intentional choices about the foods you eat. 00:22:28 - Including Crave Foods Earlier in the Day, Giving yourself permission to include craved foods in your plan, but having them earlier in the day when you have more control and can eat mindfully, can help reduce the urge to overeat at night. 00:27:49 - Introduction to Breath Work and Mindful Eating, Dafna introduces the concept of breath work as a tool for relaxation and destressing. She encourages journaling as a way to explore these questions and create positive affirmations. 00:30:28 - Flipping Your Flaws and Aligning Actions with Goals, Dafna suggests dividing a journal page into negative and positive sides to flip negative thoughts into positive affirmations. She emphasizes the importance of aligning actions with goals and acting in ways that support desired outcomes. 00:31:46 - Language and Self-Compassion, Dafna discusses the power of language and self-compassion in overcoming emotional eating. She encourages reframing statements from a victim mentality to taking ownership and making choices based on personal goals. 00:33:00 - Practicing Powerful Language and Owning Decisions, Dafna emphasizes the importance of practicing powerful language, such as "I choose" or "I've decided," to shift from feeling deprived to empowered. In this episode, we discuss the environmental factors that can cause or aggravate PCOS and how to support it through diet and lifestyle. Some questions asked during this episode: How is PCOS diagnosed? Do environmental factors cause/aggravate it? Is any type of diet or eating style more effective with the condition? https://180nutrition.com.au/ This week I'm excited to welcome Dafna Chazin to the podcast. Dafna is a PCOS dietician based in the US and the host of The Down To Earth PCOS Nutrition Podcast, where she shares her expertise in the field of hormonal health, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle changes specifically for PCOS. In this episode, we discuss the environmental factors that can cause or aggravate PCOS and how to support it through diet and lifestyle. Over to Dafna. (01:16) Hey guys, this is Stu from 180 Nutrition, and I am delighted to welcome Dafna Chazin into the podcast. Dafna, how are you? Dafna (01:22) Good. How are you? Stu (01:25) Yeah. Very, very good. Thank you. As we mentioned before just off camera, very, very excited to talk about this subject today and pick your brains a little bit because it's a question that comes out almost daily with our audience as well and seems to be ramping up in terms of the prevalence of this particular topic. But first up, for all of our listeners that may not be familiar with you or your work, I'd love it if you could just tell us a little bit about yourself, please. Dafna (01:58) Yeah. Absolutely. So my name is Dafna Chazin. I'm a registered dietician and I help women with PCOS balance their hormones, reverse their symptoms. And I've been in the field of nutrition for over a decade. I've worked in a lot of different settings, but recently in the past five years, I've landed in the women's health and hormone space, partly because I struggled with hormonal issues myself. I don't have PCOS, but I've struggled with many of the symptoms that women with PCOS experience, like acne and hair growth and painful periods, anxiety, digestive issues. You name it, I've had it. And over the years when I was really struggling, it was a time where my stress was really high. I was in the military actually. My diet wasn't so great, but I wasn't making the connection between what was happening with my hormones and my symptoms and the diet and nutrition. I always thought my nutrition and food only impacts my weight, and that's about it. And now we know that that is absolutely not true.
