But she is far more passionate about the health and welfare of our coaching population. She is interested in connecting with other coaches who are challenged daily through this profession with today's generation. More important than coaching is her mission of commitment to equity in college athletics. Athletics remains a staple in a long line of vehicles used to create social change, and she's a firm believer that if we have truthful conversations with the next generation, both male and female about equity and treatment, we can solve unfair hiring and ethical practices in athletics. Ultimately this will lead us to a healthier society with both women and men having equal representation in law making, policy development and in the workforce. There are those of us that do good in the world and then there are those who make it their life mission to invoke positive change by creating movements. We known them as change-makers. Alexis Jones is one of those people. She knew from an early age that she wanted to be an activist. She may not have known how or what that would look like; but that didn't matter. In University, when she felt like her female friends and her didn't really share their true fears and emotions with one another, she asked if others would be interested in coming together in a safe space. What started out with ten friends, quickly grew to a packed house. And thus, I Am That Girl was born. Fast forward to 10 years of empowering young women and creating a movement that span the country, helping countless females uncover their passions and live up to the truest versions of themselves, she's shifted gears. With ProtectHer, Alexis is revolutionizing sexual assault prevention and educating young men on what #manhood truly means, and how they must respect the girls and women in their own lives. She's a force to be reckoned with and she's just getting started.

I love talking to people who are navigating big transitions because it's time when trust and identity are really called into question. How someone navigates that space says a lot about them and of course, it's a ripe time for life lessons. At the time of our interview today's guest Emily Greener, co-founder and former executive director of I AM THAT GIRL was still pretty fresh into a big transition and she was awesome enough to share some of the experience with us along with her valuable perspectives. In this interview we talk about not depriving yourself of the full range of human emotions, creating openings for yourself in life, the relationship between anger, the ego and blame, what happens when your identity is wrapped up in a job title and more. And we also went on a cool tangent about Christianity, Judaism and "the real" Jesus Christ. Enjoy! About Emily Greener: Emily Greener has an unparalleled ability to give companies the heart beat and soul that allows them to authentically connect with consumers, make an impact, and enrich the human experience from the inside out. She builds and executes strategies that help create systemic improvement for company culture and diversity, internal and external communications, cause integration and marketing, content and campaigns, and business development and partnerships. Her willingness to lead with vulnerability and her genuine passion for people makes her a trusted influence in the business of changing the world and shifting culture. She specializes in generation Y and Z, empowerment, and girls and women. In 2008, Emily Greener and her Co-Founder launched I AM THAT GIRL, a movement inspiring girls to LOVE, EXPRESS, and BE who they are. As CEO, Greener built a meaningful brand and developed the strategy, content, programming, and support that inspires a community of over 1 million girls daily online and over 250 local chapters across the globe. Greener’s work has been acknowledged at the prestigious DVF Awards where she won The People’s Voice Award and Oprah named Emily on her very first SuperSoul 100 list. In this episode, Emily shares: 1. The end of August/beginning of September always symbolizes a fresh start to me - and this is the perfect episode to hopefully catapult you into whatever newness is in store for you in the season to come. Emily Greener is the CEO and co-founder of I AM THAT GIRL, a global movement inspiring girls to be, love, and express who they are through education, content, and community. She’s been Emily and the IATG crew have taken their movement off-line into communities all over the world, motivating girls from SoCal to South Africa to live the lives they were meant to lead, judgement-free. For even more on Emily, you can check out her WANT Woman spotlight here. In this episode we talk about navigating major turning points in life (like quarter-life crises and your "Saturn Return," which I've got links to read up on in the show notes), how to become a leader in whatever space you're in whether it's in work or in life, the power and scariness of going first, and of course, the chance meeting and turning-point moment that sparked the mass movement that is now I AM THAT GIRL. Two super-powerful parts of this conversation in particular really struck a chord. The first is when Emily talks about how to hold space for others as a leader, and the moment when she realized that in order to be the leader she was striving to be, she would have to let go of some stuff first. The second? The mindset shift she experienced recently when it comes to success. We talk about the delicate balance between humility and recognizing your successes, and how she was able to find that happy medium and really let love in. What I love about you guys, as WANTcast listeners and fellow WANT Women (and WANT men, too!) is that...it's so cool, you are natural-born leaders. I see it in the comments on the site, in the emails, on social, when I meet you in person - you can't ignore it. But just because you're a leader, or you maybe don't view yourself as a leader yet but WANT to be a leader, it doesn't mean you're immune to self-doubt, fears, or moments where nothing seems to make sense. If anything, you're probably even more sensitive to those moments BECAUSE of that leadership chip in your brain and hear. This episode might be just what you need to help you be the leader you know you've been inside all along. Also, next episode will be the end of SEASON ONE of the WANTcast! I was thinking of doing something special and different - I know a lot of people have asked me how to start a podcast, or what my favorite things about doing a podcast are, or what I've learned - I don't know, would you want to hear an episode like that? Let me know - email me at katie@womenagainstnegativetalk.com, or shoot me a comment on social, or drop me a line in the comments section of this post. I really want to do something cool for episode 20. Alright, we'll talk about that later. For now, let's live in the moment. Episode 19. Enjoy. WANT Emily.
