“The assignment is alignment. How do you come into that place of alignment for what's true for you?” –Karen KenneyCuriosity over check marks — spiritual mentor Karen Kenney talks about how rote activities and putting spirituality on our to do lists doesn't work. There's a difference between a habit and a ritual. One of the things that I've noticed about myself, and others like me, is a pattern of hyper-independence and self-reliance. These traits aren't uncommon in people with some trauma in their history. And whether they truly couldn't rely on others, or felt like they had to figure things out all on their own, this belief can set people up with a habit of not asking for help.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about why going it alone isn't always the best answer. We'll dive into four concepts that can be observed and applied to both business and personal life: hard work, guesswork, frameworks, and teamwork. We'll also discuss the difference between intentionally experimenting and aimlessly flinging spaghetti at the wall and why having a group of “strong swimmers” to support you can make all the difference in the world!I'll also share about why joining my email list is a good idea right now and the benefits of signing up for my spiritual mentoring group: THE NEST!Plus, I let you know about hitting pause and a possible way to support the show upon return!KEY POINTS:• 43rd Anniversary of Mom's Death• Habit of Self-Reliance• Four Concepts in Change• Importance of Spiritual Fellowship• Having a Compassionate Witness• Encouragement and Support in Personal Growth• Hitting Pause on the Podcast• The Nest: Spiritual Mentoring Group + Community KK BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Hypnotist and Coach. I'm sure we've all been in a situation before where there was something that we wanted or needed to do, but our fear was so great that it kept us from taking action.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking all about courage. We'll discuss the four components of courage, what we often get wrong about fear, and the importance of having a supportive community of encouragers!I'll also tell a story about watching some courage in action that I recently experienced, and the power of having a compassionate witness to help us navigate the scary times.Plus I'll share some thoughts on how to navigate fear and make better decisions by changing our emotional state before taking action.KEY POINTS:• The Concept of Courage• Autism Acceptance Week• Actor Michael Sheen + The Assembly• Four Components of Courage• Feeling The Fear• Changing Emotional States• Compassionate Witnessing• Encouragement and Support in Personal Growth• The Nest: Spiritual Mentoring Group + CommunityKK BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Hypnotist, and Coach. I'm sure you've heard the phrase before, “Giving someone the benefit of the doubt.”The dictionary says, “the benefit of the doubt” is the state of accepting something or someone as honest or deserving of trust, even though there are doubts.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how we often think that giving the benefit of the doubt is a courtesy we're extending to the other person. But sometimes, when we extend the benefit of the doubt, our mental, our physical, our emotional and our spiritual well-being also benefits from this too.Another way to say this is we get to choose to see through the eyes of love, rather than fear, which means we don't have to give too much credit to our ego's first and loudest reactions. This doesn't mean that we become doormats, give up our common sense, or stop listening to our Inner Voice or abandon our wise discernment. However, there is a benefit sometimes to not just running with that first fear reaction of the ego, and instead, learning to slow down and take your time, so that you can assess a situation from a place of love.KEY POINTS:• Definition of Benefit of the Doubt• Being Called an Idiot• Practicing in Relationships + in the Car• The Importance of Perspective• Getting Your Panties in a Bunch• Giving Bad Evidence + Proof• Be Kind, Be Kind, Be KindKaren Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. I bet most of us can agree that we don't like feeling like “we're the problem” or that we might be letting someone down. When we make plans to meet up, or attend something together with someone else, or as in my story today, plan an event and then... life unexpectedly happens, the situation changes, and we have to cancel on them.UGH! It can be such an uncomfortable feeling when those thoughts of, “Oh, I'm going to let this person down” start racing through our head and our nervous system sets off the old childhood danger alarms.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how it's okay to not always get it 100% right. It is okay to have enough self-awareness to know when we've reached our limit and something, somewhere has to give. The truth is…You are allowed to change your mind. You are allowed to make mistakes. You are allowed to make choices that might disappoint other people. You will come out the other side okay and “YOU ARE NOT IN TROUBLE” when you do.KEY POINTS: • Disappointing Others + Managing Anxiety (04:52)• Recognizing + Managing Emotions (09:38)• Emotional Intelligence, Self-Awareness + Personal Growth (15:32)• Managing Emotions from Past Experiences (20:17)• Trauma, Emotional Healing + Self-Care (25:26)• Finding Inner Peace (30:32)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. I often say, “Humans love to put other people up on a pedestal of praise and then move them over to the cross of crucifixion when they see their humanity.”Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how people like to build others up onto a pedestal of praise and then when they eventually discover that other person's humanness, weaknesses or even failures - those same people love to yank that pedestal out from under them. It's like there's this expectation that because someone is good at something, whether that be science, acting, sports, writing, business, or music - that they're then automatically predisposed to be good at all things straight across the board. That they are never going to make a mistake or God forbid, show the unhealed version of themselves. In people's worshipping of internet heroes, influencers and “gurus” - it's easy to forget that they are human. They are not God or even otherworldly. In many ways, they're no different than people without the big platforms.Like us, they have their own insecurities, character flaws and unhealed places that could also use some inner work.As human beings, we should do our best to praise one another, love one another, and build each other up... and I have no problem with this practice of helping, supporting, cheerleading and lifting someone up!However, it's a totally different thing to put somebody up on a pedestal and then toss our common sense out the window - only to then be disappointed because we find out oh, yeah, they're human. The reality is if we keep building people up on these wicked high pedestals and holding them to these impossible standards; when they're that high, there's only one place to go, and that's down. It can be wicked easy to get attached to the idea that relationships are supposed to last forever – and that people and how we relate to one another are supposed to stay the same. This notion gets reinforced in our minds, because our brains really like familiarity and don't particularly love change. When it comes to human beings and relationships - things remaining the same - is not a reasonable expectation because like trees, we're all destined to grow.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how people are kind of like trees and the different relationships they find themselves in. Some relationships weather the toughest storms, bending but not breaking. Others provide support, shade or nourishment for a time before falling away. But all are built on the foundation, the roots, that started with what we learned in our earliest home life with our family. If you were to look at the people in your own life - what kind of “trees” would you discover? Do you have strong, stable Redwoods? Or are they a low bush that's never going to grow and it may be time to uproot and move on from them? As with trees, sometimes relationships wither away, but it doesn't mean they didn't serve a purpose when they came into our life. Like trees, relationships grow and change with each passing season with some remaining long term like evergreens and others moving on to grow alongside someone else. So, take a look around and ask yourself, “Who am I standing in the forest of this life with and are there any that I may have outgrown that it is time to say goodbye to? Plus, what kind of tree am I being to others?”KK's Takeaways:• Trees, Relationships + Personal Growth (01:36)• Family Roots (7:17)• Toxic Family Dynamics + Self-Care (13:25)• Tree Trunks, Growth + Relationships (15:51)• Self-Awareness (21:34)• The Cycles Of Relationships (27:43)• Building Sturdy Relationships (32:49)• Spiritual Growth + Internal Resources (36:09)• Personal Growth + Relationships (42:13)• Spark Of Life (47:38)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. In the world today, you just can't be on the internet and more specifically, on social media, and not see the way that people try to come for one another. There's so many people with going around spewing their mean, hateful and ignorant comments all over everyone and everything.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the cheap shots that are being thrown around online from behind a keyboard or the safety of a screen. Brutal and unnecessary words being used to try to tear down the success and happiness of others by the unhealed authors behind them. It's easy to feel tough when people think they're anonymous, using a fake name, and live so far away, that they'll probably never have to meet the ones they're going out of their way to hurt. As individuals, we have to stop this behavior. We have to start calling ourselves on our own BS and be willing to look at, who and how we are really being. When we're trying to create good, new, positive, or helpful things in the world - we sometimes find it hard to remain consistent and keep the momentum going. We might find ourselves in a pattern of starting and stopping again and again and again - which can lead to frustration and feelings of failure.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're flipping this pattern on its head! Instead of attacking ourselves – we're going to get curious, by shifting the focus from negative thinking and the kind of critical inner talk that has us berating ourselves - to a more positive outlook that considers what might actually be living underneath the struggle. There's an intelligence beneath that “starting and stopping” and a wisdom inside of you and your Inner Teacher knows and understands your struggle. Right now, your nervous system might be inclined towards seeking safety and familiarity — and may need the support of a friend, a mentor, a coach - or even a private journal practice to help bring your why to the surface so it can be heard, held and even healed. Trying to change a habit can be wicked hard and our subconscious root causes can keep us feeling stuck — but there isn't anything wrong with your path or in seeking support. This episode serves as an invitation for you to embark on a journey of self-exploration, to delve deeply behind the curtain, and confront the challenging questions that will uncover the root causes of your struggle with gaining momentum in the direction of your dreams. Love isn't just reserved for romantic, sexual, or intimate relationships. Love is all around us and one of the most powerful things you can do is learn to love yourself.I'm not talking in some big grandiose, egocentric way, where you decide you are “special”.I'm talking about truly learning how to be in relationship with yourself - with both your ego personality / the small s / self and your Higher / capital S / Self.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about love and how every day is a great opportunity to spread some around! We don't have to reserve it for holiday celebrations like Valentine's Day either. Why not celebrate Love every day? Look around you, there are so many reasons to give and receive love.As I always tell my students and clients, “Don't be stingy with your love”, you can start with yourself and then expand it out to the animals, other people and the world around you — let it ripple out exponentially and watch it come back to you!We were created to love and be LOVE and the more we practice this, the bigger it gets and the more there is to love. Will you join me in spreading more love today?KK's Takeaways:• Spreading Love (05:29)• Spreading Kindness (11:48)• Spirituality, Relationships + Inner Peace (16:43)• The Power of Prayer + Mindfulness (20:00)• The Importance of Giving + Receiving Love (24:27)• Grief, Love + Spreading Positivity (30:07)• Personal Growth (34:54)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. If we think, say, feel, believe or do something enough times - it creates a habitual well-worn groove within our subconscious mind. And if we get into a groove - that is no longer groovy, we can create a well-worn path that can easily become a rut that we feel stuck in.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about getting stuck in these ways of thinking and being - where we want to change - but find it difficult or overwhelming to do so. This can leave us feeling like we're lazy, lacking, not smart enough, kinda' worthless, and wondering what the heck is wrong with me? Which can lead to feelings of defeat… and as a result, a lot of us will just give up and stop trying, because it feels too hard to change. So how do we get out of this rut and make the changes we actually want? Here's the good news… You already have your own inner teacher, a part of you that is connected to Divine intelligence, that has everything it already needs within to create change! You just occasionally need some external help, some guidance, support or mentoring, to learn how to use what you already have. “There are no mistakes, only happy little accidents” is a famous line by beloved artist, painter, teacher and TV personality, Bob Ross. But when I was watching him the other day, he stopped me in my tracks with this other golden gem of wisdom - “Learn to work with what happens.”WOAH!!!These 6 powerful words are not only applicable for the painters, artists and creatives he was teaching to, but for human beings overall! And when I heard them, it had all my brain cells firing at once - because it fell right in line with what I believe for myself and what I teach others.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the stories each of us have, tell and carry. Stories shaped by our experiences, installed by our interpretations, built by our beliefs, and crafted alongside the identities we've created for ourselves.Often we're not writing these stories in our own favor and we instead become attached to the retelling and re-traumatizing of ourselves again, and again. So much of the work I do with others is about taking those old habituated stories, releasing the meaning that we've assigned to them, and rewriting them through a different lens - or as I like to say “transforming that old story, into your glory.”That is what I believe Bob was distilling down with his statement, “learn to work with what happens.” He's saying learn to use whatever happens on the canvas, and what greater surface do we have to work and create on than the canvas of our lives! Are you ready to use what's happened to create your own masterpiece?KK's Takeaways:• Embracing Mistakes + Using Them Creatively (05:29)• Reframing Personal Stories for Self-Transformation (11:44)• Inner Work + Spiritual Growth (15:42)• Using Trauma Creatively for Personal Growth (21:58)• Transforming Negative Experiences into Positive Outcomes (26:02)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. It's normal and natural as kids to look for those external social cues that tell us which behaviors are good or bad - what is encouraged and what is discouraged . In fact, we were constantly being conditioned and molded as children growing up by how our parents, society, teachers, coaches, priests, siblings, and our friends were responding to us. If we aren't careful, we might continue this habit of looking outside of ourselves for signs of belonging and approval. And instead of maturing into adults with secure self-love - we'll find ourselves desperately looking to others in order to know if we're “good enough”.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the need for external validation or that ego desire to be “special” - that my friends and I like to call ‘wanting cookies'! If you listen to this epsiode, and you're wondering, “Do I do that? Do I feel like I need all the cookies?”Let me just say this; it's also totally normal to want to be told, “Hey, you did great,” and have you or your work acknowledged. In fact, it's healthy in relationships to support, cheer and congratulate each other sometimes. Where it starts to become wicked imbalanced - and we find ourselves unable to regulate - or see our own self worth - is if we don't keep that insatiable need in check. One of the strongest things that we need is our own love language. That muscle needs to grow and get stronger as we mature. That way, if somebody else validates us, it's just icing on the cake - and we don't have to go chasing all the cookies. I always say, “If everyone likes you, you're doing it wrong” - because what that tells me is you're probably ‘Cirque du Soleil-ing' yourself into some version of you that's trying to be palatable for everybody… and that's just not possible. Some people aren't going to like you because they just don't like you and that's just how it is. What matters here, dear listener, is that you like and love yourself! Maybe you suffer from the same affliction that I have - which is I'm a hyper responsible person and have a nervous system that is still unlearning some old ways of being. And in this episode, what I'm highlighting is how this urgency pattern specifically shows up in my life by how much pressure I feel and put on myself to quickly respond to other people and their needs. This of course, doesn't mean that I always try to swoop in and fix everything for everyone all the time, but I do feel a need and a have a drive to be of help to others both human and animal.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the pressure we put ourselves under when it comes to how we respond to others who are asking something of us. For myself personally it is the pressure of how quickly I need to respond when it comes to someone else's needs and or requests of my support.Nowadays, there's literally dozens of ways for people to get a hold of us and this episode is my invitation for you to join me in not putting yourself under so much pressure. The kind of pressure that if left unchecked, will only serve to eventually break us down. Instead, I invite you to set boundaries for yourself that provide you with the space you need to just breathe, consider the options and to take some time before you decide to jump in with both feet. And if you have them, use the helpful tools to take care of your nervous system first. (and if you don't have them, a gentle reminder that this is part of the work that I do with people.) Then next time you find yourself caught up in the under pressure “shoulds” - slow down and ask yourself if you're doing things at a pace that feels good to you or because it's right for you -or- because you're afraid that you'll feel guilty, judged, or rejected if you don't?KK's Takeaways:• Pressure + Responsibility (03:00)• Internal Pressure + Sensitivity (08:01)• The Impact on Mental Health (13:51)• Boundaries + Self-Care in a Fast-Paced World (19:20)• Managing Stress + Responding to Demands (21:41)• Responding To Requests at a Comfortable Pace (27:29)• Prioritizing Self-Care (33:13)• Questioning Societal Pressures + Self-Love (38:05)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. When we become adults - if we're not careful - we no longer create enough time for fun, play and joy in the things we choose to do. This way of living can become a slippery slide down slope - where everything in our life feels like an ‘I have to' - instead of - an ‘I get to'. Why would we want to wake up each day only to have to jump into things that don't feel good to us, aren't aligned with our well-being, and feel more draining and soul-sucking than life-giving?Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're taking a closer look at what we might describe as a ‘perfect' day in your life. Apologizing is an art form and a skill set that we have to take time to learn, practice and build. It's not something that most of us do well or even automatically. In fact, plenty of people suck when it comes to making apologies and trying to heal a situation where they may have caused hurt.Sometimes, people take it a step further and unfortunately, aren't even willing to apologize. In some family dynamics, they thrive on holding grudges and don't actually want to heal the relationship or the situation their words or behavior created. It's like they think they're getting something from withholding their love, not taking accountability or being stingy with their apologies.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're taking a closer look at the art of apology and what's required from us to take responsibility and truly apologize from our heart when and where we can. This doesn't mean we will immediately receive forgiveness, and sometimes people won't want to forgive us and that reconciliation we seek is just not gonna' happen. Hopefully, things won't come to this, but sometimes they do and our only option is to try to make peace with the outcomes and the earlier, younger versions of ourselves and our actions. Just because we apologize, forgiveness isn't always forthcoming. It's definitely not on a schedule to make us feel super comfy. Apologizing well is just the beginning and a necessary start of the healing process. As we start to do some spiritual work - we can become more aware, awake and sensitive to our previous words and behaviors - when we weren't at our best. If we don't have any tools or resources in place when our past mistakes come up for our attention, they can become all-consuming.They'll often play on repeat in our mind — leaving us overwhelmed with guilt or regret and eventually sucked under from the undertow of our own self loathing and hatred.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're looking at past mistakes and discussing how the ego-mind likes to keep us feeling guilty and wrong about all the things we did or didn't do. This habituated pattern of looking for or obsessing over what we think we screwed up, can keep us stuck in a place that is without healing.Leaving us feeling separate from ourselves and the Divine, and unable to remember our goodness. This mindset is not loving or helpful and in the long run, really doesn't do us or anyone else any good. When it comes to trying new things - the best way for me to learn what I think about it, what I feel about it, and whether I like or don't like a particular person, place, program or product, etc. - is to do what I call: FAFO!That's right, I've got to: “F*ck Around + Find Out”. Which is a fun way to say that I have to experience things for myself. This applies to ALL kinds of things, like… learning new skill sets, gathering “tools” for my spiritual toolkit, how I market my business, and even having human relationships. 2023 was a year where I really embraced the FAFO and I f*cked around and found out a lot about myself and my business. I tried a bunch of new things and I stopped doing a bunch of things.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're taking a closer look at how to wrap up the year and look ahead to what you want to create in 2024! We dive into my New Years Eve rituals - that include reflecting on what I learned in the past year, what I loved about the year, while also noticing where I fell short, where my plans fell apart, and who maybe wasn't very much fun to be around. This end-of-year ritual is my chance to look back and take personal responsibility for what I've created in my life over the past year — and while also envisioning, with the support of my divine helpers, the possibility of what can BE moving forward. So, what about you? What were your great lessons and loves of 2023? And what are you simplifying and amplifying in the new year? Right now, you have the opportunity to take responsibility for where you came from over the last 12 months, and plan for where you're going next! Are you ready and excited to FAFO in 2024? A quote I love from writer Jonathan Franzen is at the heartbeat of today's episode. He says: “When you stay in your room in rage or sneer or shrug your shoulders as I did for many years. The world and its problems are impossibly daunting. But when you go out and put yourself in real relation to real people, or even just real animals, there's a very real danger that you might end up loving some of them and who knows what might happen to you then.”The world can sometimes feel overwhelming or daunting and we might need to occasionally draw back a bit to allow ourselves time away to recharge and reset. The key here though is that we don't stay shut away forever. Finding, creating and or being a part of a community of people, animals and experiences equally, is important for us to thrive.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about suffering and connection, and putting ourselves in real relation to real people and real animals… not just the ones in our minds and behind our screens. There is a magic that can bloom when we allow ourselves to be open and vulnerable and to go out into the world and connect, to share our lives, and maybe even fall in love with some other humans and animals. So this is my personal invitation and encouragement for you / me to get off of our devices and to come out of “our rooms”, and to be open to loving the people, loving the animals, loving the earth and also importantly - loving yourself inside and out! Like the Fall leaves that blow all over our yards, we can often get blown around by our thoughts.Have you ever been looking for the answer to something, and you say to yourself, “I'm just going to look this up real quick on the Google”... and before you know it, you've gone down some sort of rabbit hole that now has you scrolling on some social media site — and you're left wondering, “How did I get here?” You started to kind of follow those “blowing leaves” wherever they were going, and in the process you were just being taken wherever that “wind” blew you. Instead of setting your sail and directing and staying the course for what you intended, you were just getting blown all over the damn place. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about creating and showing up with focused energy and sustained effort. So instead of trying to “multi-task” a bunch of stuff, we approach things with intentional direction and purpose. When we train ourselves to “single-task” and stick to one thing at a time until it's fully accomplished, we experience a sense of reward. This is also applicable when it comes to the transformation process, change work or personal development. If we encounter steps that feel overwhelming, breaking them down into manageable focused tasks can be wicked helpful - to both us and our nervous system.Whether you're creating a new habit or breaking an old one, working on some healing or spiritual growth - there's something super powerful about focused energy and sustained effort and good news is, we can choose that path on our journey of change!KK's Takeaways:• Using A Leaf Blower + Environmentalism (05:48)• Single Tasking, Distractions, + Focus (09:50)• Taking Small Steps Towards Personal Growth (14:13)• Habit Formation + Personal Growth (20:31)• Sustained Focus (24:39)• Mindfulness, Meditation, + Personal Growth (29:03)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. At the transformational retreats that I lead, I sometimes like to share something with the participants that I call: “Voted Most Likely To”.It's a humorous exercise that looks at what we or the people in our life would definitely say we do on a regular basis. I find it to be a helpful tool to identify patterns and habits around the way we show up in the world; either for better or for worse.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're asking the question; “What would you be voted most likely to do?”The key here is to remember that this is not an exercise used to tear ourselves down. Instead it is a fun way for us to hopefully have a good laugh at some of the silly and positive things we do and to also take a closer look at some of the other maybe less helpful things - as a starting point to our awareness for our changing for the better. Think of this as a chance to move in the direction of progress and this exercise is just one little step in the process. For those of you that know me, you know that I just absolutely love Mr. Fred Rogers. So much so that I consider him one of the head honchos on my Spiritual Team. When Fred was little and big scary things were happening in the world, or if he saw something on TV that frightened him, his mom would always say to him, “Look for the helpers.”Yes, there might be buildings that are crumbling and awful things that are happening, but if you look around, you will always find people who are helping. I absolutely love this and think it can be a really powerful practice, especially in times when you feel like you want to despair, give up or feel completely overwhelmed. When you look for the helpers it can give you hope, inspiration and a reason to be thankful. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about a recent time where listening to my Spiritual Team put me exactly where I needed to be. This was a rough situation for someone I didn't know, but it transformed into a powerful learning moment. I'm wicked thankful to have been in the right place at the right time and with the ability to help.Remember, no matter how tough things get, there's always a glimmer of hope to be found in the actions of those who choose to help. When it comes to communication, relationship building and dreaming big, it's important and impactful to be specific in what you say, the decisions you make, and the actions you take.Specificity is at the top of the list because the intentional details matter and have the power to make a difference in both your personal and professional life.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how being specific in what we say, think and do matters because of its ability to have such a huge exponential ripple effect from us out into the world. So whether you're giving or receiving it, specificity has the power to create opportunities for connection and the deepening of relationships. Everywhere we look it seems we're seeing suffering in one form or another. It's completely normal to want to turn away and avoid the feelings of fear, overwhelm, exhaustion, rage, despair, and hopelessness that may come with it.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about bearing witness to what others are going through, so that we may keep our humanity intact and not lose sight of our compassion and empathy along the way. Today's episode is a conversation I think is so important to hear because it features Sarah Donner, a brilliant woman who started as a fashion model and is now a hypnotherapist and health coach. She started modelling when she was just 14 years old and while going through teenage body changes, had her whole self-worth focused on a career about her body and what size she was. It was when Sarah transitioned into start-up companies and the tech world that she learned there was so much more to her than her body. Sarah's story and the work she does now are just so inspiring and really drive home the fact that we all think if we were thinner, with model bodies, we'd have more confidence or opportunities. But I think Sarah's story kind of disproves that idea.Sarah speaks frankly about the dark cycle of tying our self-worth to our body size and looks. She explains the struggle to find an identity outside of her looks and the intense imposter syndrome she experienced, and still does, in other careers. We can all identify with that, really, or certainly I can. One of the exciting things about Sarah's journey is her work in hypnotherapy now. Hypnotherapy is not the same thing as hypnosis acts in Vegas or on TV, the two get confused, but it is a tool used to bypass the conscious critical mind which makes us more receptive to new ideas and realizations. Hypnotherapy can be a very useful tool in finding what lies at the root of self-worth or food issues. Like myself, Sarah focuses a lot on coaching toward intuitive eating. Hypnotherapy can help get to the truth of our struggle so that we are free to pursue intuitive eating because unless we can connect with our bodies, we can't hear the signals intuitive eating requires. This conversation with Sarah is so important and I'm really glad you're here listening to it now.About Sarah Donner:Founder of Siva Wellness, Sarah grew up in Germany and started her career in fashion, which allowed me to travel the world at a young age. After finishing her degree in New York City, Sarah pivoted into the start-up world and lived between New York and Europe. She had the privilege to work in some terrific tech startups and is the founding member of an AI-backed beauty company called 2250. Sarah is grateful for her past work experiences but needless to say, living that fast-paced life without the right tools in place left its mark on her and she ended up feeling mentally and physically depleted. She suffered from imposter syndrome and anxiety and was constantly battling all sorts of ailments that traditional medicine could not help her with. That is why she started to look for alternative methods to heal herself, and the journey and results have been remarkable. After receiving her license as a Holistic Health Coach from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York and her Hypnotherapy License from the Center of Integrative Hypnosis, she studied Transpersonal Hypnotherapy with Allison Axinn in Tuscany, Italy. Sarah decided to turn her passion into her career and Siva was born. Siva is for everyone that is ready to implement change with a long lasting effect and without any of the side effects.__Learn more about Sarah Donner:Website: siva-wellness.comInstagramLearn more about Dr. Michelle Tubman and Wayza Health:Website: www.wayzahealth.comFollow me on Facebook and Instagram

Not everyone will be our “cup of tea” and we won't always be theirs - and sometimes this can even extend to seasons in our life. Meaning that, what was once something we needed, we no longer need now or what we once liked or loved - may not instill those same feelings today. It's these moments of realization that have us taking a step back, unfollowing, disconnecting or even walking away from someone. But what does that mean if we still run in the same social or business circles as them and might see them again face to face? Are we being two-faced if we address them or interact with them politely?Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're looking at what it means to distance ourselves from someone and yet still be kind when we run into them. The truth is, we don't have to like everybody, but we can still treat each other with kindness. This doesn't make us two-faced. This makes us decent human beings who have matured enough to stand respectfully in conversation with someone even if we're no longer on the same page. There are of course nuances to this - just as with many other things - but so long as it wasn't a harmful, destructive situation that required you to remove yourself, being kind when you run into them only serves to keep things civil and clean. It doesn't have to be complicated; you don't have to get into a sticky situation or over explain yourself. Just keep it clean, stick to your healthy boundaries and move on.KK's Takeaways:• Spirituality, Personal Growth, And Connection To The Divine (1:31)• Unfollowing/Unsubscribing From Social Media (6:26)• Unfriending And Unfollowing On Social Media (11:29)• Being Kind To People You Don't Like (16:30)• Being Nice And Toxic Relationships (21:44)• Setting Boundaries In Spiritual Communities (26:57)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. I hope your curiosity brought you here because I know that my curiosity brought me here to record this episode. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the British slang term “Coddiwomple” - which plainly means “to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague or yet unknown destination.”We live in a culture that is obsessed with making plans, setting goals, checking the boxes and doing the thing so we can say; “Yeah, I did it” and this doesn't stop that - but instead adds another element of being purposeful but also open to what may come along the way.I think Coddiwomple is so powerful because it invites in surprise and delights with a touch of inspiration that really alights our imagination. It's why today I'm inviting you to move with purpose and intention - while also not being afraid of leaving the door open to the magic you may stumble across and would have otherwise missed because of planning every moment in your journey.KK's Takeaways:• British Slang Term "Coddiwomple" (02:54)• Embracing Spontaneity (07:01)• Creative Writing + Exploration (08:51)• Embracing Spirituality + Letting Go Of Ego (12:53)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. Sometimes it's not just the people in the immediate relationship that are affected by the decisions that we make or that get made.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about collateral damage and how the choices we make can affect those around us in sometimes not so great ways. Picture dropping a pebble into a lake, and watching those little water ripples go out further, getting bigger, eventually enveloping all the surrounding water in their wake. Sometimes our personal choices do something similar, they envelope our partners, our kids, our extended family, shared friends and even our fur babies. Things can get messy — because the human experience is complicated and sometimes there are unintended negative consequences to our choices. This is not to say we can never resolve these situations - but we do have to consider the question: will the repair make sense, be kind or compassionate to those affected and are we willing to take it all the way in holding responsibility for our actions and choices? While holding onto the possibility that fixing it, explaining ourselves or repairing the damage is not always possible and finding a way to be okay with that or coming to a place of acceptance. Our actions can create positive ripples just as easily as they can unintended waves; it is what we do on the other side of each that makes a difference in the end. Let's debunk some long-standing myths about hypnosis and that it's the belief that hypnosis is a form of mind control. Believe me when I say, that hypnotists are not your puppet masters, they are your guides to harness control of your own mind.We will talk about the human mind and the role of the subconscious and its influence over change. We'll get metaphysical and question our own perceptions of control in our personal lives. And if control often seems synonymous with anxiety and fear, we'll tackle that too. Lastly, we will draw from the insights of the wise Byron Katie, I'll help you challenge your beliefs and implement the changes you wish to see in your life. Remember, you have a powerful mind and it can be changed to support the life you want to live. In the meantime, enjoy your day, one minute at a time.Resources and Links Mentioned:The work of Byron KatieCheryl J Reynolds -Hypnosis for you!Achieve your goals with Hypnosis-mini-meditation How to deal with the loss of control

Mahatma Gandhi was known for having said; “My life is my message.”Recently, I was thinking about my own mortality and one of the things I considered is… when I die, what am I actually leaving behind? Like, if I were to drop dead tomorrow…What would the message of my life (so far) have been? What would they say about me and my life at my funeral? What is it that people are going to remember about me?But more than that, what would they say about me now, today, at this moment?Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're looking at the 6 steps I follow in my own life and teach to my clients about what it takes to be the living example in your life. Now it's your turn. Have you ever found yourself overthinking and softening your language in emails, meetings, conversations, or voice and text messages...So that other people wouldn't perceive you as being a pain in the ass, or too needy, or too bossy, or too whatever the feck'?How about over-explaining yourself almost as a preemptive apology - instead of just answering with a direct yes or no?Are you familiar with often disclaiming yourself, your ideas, your work or your words in advance? In my writing workshops, I often hear people (but especially women) do this “thing” before they share what they wrote with the rest of the group. Before they read a single word of their work, they start out with a rush of disclaimers; saying things like... “Well, I just wrote this really fast” - or- “We didn't have a ton of time” - or - “This still needs polishing” - or - "This isn't very good, but..."This is one of the reasons why we encourage no explaining, or disclaimers because those statements are not reflective of the brilliant writing that they inevitably go on to read! It's that double-edged sword of wanting to be seen, and wanting to share yourself and your work, but also being afraid of being seen and how your nervous system responds to it!Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I'm inviting you to stop apologizing in advance. Stop over explaining, and putting up disclaimers before sharing amazing YOU and your art, your words, your work or your skills, whatever they may be.Your point of view is worthy and your creativity and your ideas are needed in the world! So please… Speak up. So many people, many of whom, because of experiences from their earlier and most formative years - have developed a low level or lack of self-esteem, self worth, and self confidence. Since we sometimes can't truly see our real selves, what we see instead and unfortunately also believe is the interpretations and judgments of other people's opinions, and reflections of who they think we are.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're taking back our authority and saying, I am the author of my story! Now, in the case of the eye color intervention that I did, I'm not talking about saying your eyes are blue, when they're clearly brown. I'm not talking about making things up and trying to force them. Rather, I mean we need to look closely at the beliefs that we hold and identify the stories that we tell and the identities we create. We need to check in with those from time to time from a place of understanding that we change, grow, heal, expand, learn, and transmute and every once in a while it doesn't hurt to ask; is this thing about me still true?Because let me tell you something, I know there's a ton of people out there who are sitting on a plethora of superpowers and they don't even know it - because nobody has come into their world (yet!) to reflect it back or who helps them to see themselves in a new light! If you're one of those people, I want you to know that I am here to intervene on behalf of your greatness, on behalf of your brilliance and maybe even take a little look at your bullshit too. Ha!We're all a little full of it in some particular way and sometimes it's helpful to have another person who can help you look at those places that are challenging - it's called growth. This is what the human experience is about; growing, learning, accepting and laughing at our shenanigans along the way. David Ruby is the creator of Fox Valley Hypnosis. A former medical librarian armed with a Master's degree in Research, David first approached hypnosis out of skepticism. However, after studying a large body of research supporting the efficacy of hypnosis, he's since then attended classes on hypnosis and neurolinguistic programming and earned a certificate in Life Coaching from Melissa Tiers' Center for Integrative Hypnosis in New York. David's approach is anchored on the history of hypnosis, the classic and modern-day hypnotists, and the advances made in the field—incorporating these elements in accordance with the specific needs of his clients. David joins me today to describe his journey to the world of hypnosis and how his former work as a medical librarian shaped his evidence-based approach to hypnosis. He discusses evidence-based hypnosis and why it's important to vet information on studies regarding the efficacy of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. He shares the story of how NASA developed a pen to write in space and underscores the importance of checking sources. David also explores how ancestral memory can be integrated into the work of hypnosis and how hypnotists can elevate each other. Want more like this? Something I learned back in college from my Communications Professor, is that “the message sent is not always the message received.”Just because I think I've done a good job communicating who I am, what I do, and what I offer - doesn't mean that people are always picking up what I'm putting down. The reality is we all learn differently and many of us often need to hear things multiple times and in multiple ways before we understand it, process it or begin to take action on it. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about getting even more clarity about our message and how we're communicating it. For me, that's about making it wicked clear, exactly who it is I work with, what kind of work we do together, and why this work matters. If people can't relate to what you're saying, they may never raise their hand, sign up, say yes, ask for help or join in the fun!As you listen to this episode, I hope you'll play along to see how many times you recognize yourself, make a check mark or do a Double Amen Hands! There's a saying that gets tossed around a lot that says, “Hurt People, Hurt People.”While this can sometimes be true… There's also a ton of people out there with adverse childhood experiences - that include unbelievably difficult, horrifying, tragic, awful, brutal, violent things that have happened to them - and they're not out there perpetuating the same awful stuff on others. They're not stuck in the same vicious cycle set on repeat - but instead are choosing differently for themselves. They choose to break the chain — they become the place where the pattern that has been passed down generationally in the family or culture stops or changes direction. Now, I'm all for having compassion and trying to understand why people might do things the way they do, however, I don't think we should normalize it or use it as an excuse for inexcusable, harmful behavior. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about hurt people and how just because someone has had things happen to them - whether they be horrific or not - does not automatically mean they will step into a role of being hurtful to others. There are a lot of options for help and support in our world today, and so as “hurt people” we can choose better, not only for ourselves but for those we love and come into contact with on a daily basis. Are you ready to break the chain?KK's Takeaways:Let's Stop Normalizing It (5:00)The Gig Is To Wake Up (12:23)How To Choose To Heal Yourself (17:28)Take a Good Look At Your Own Life (23:10)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. In life, we sometimes need to move things around. Whether the movement is about the physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual — we've gotta' get our ass up, in gear and “rearrange the furniture” of our lives. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about “rearranging furniture” and it's not just our external physical stuff like beds, tables, bookcases, desks and chairs. We take a look at the “internal furniture” - stuff like our thoughts, beliefs, habits, stories, anxieties, relationships, etc. We're diving into getting quiet enough to hear what in those spaces we need to clear out, clean up, or simply connect deeper with. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about creating change in our lives and how the way for real, lasting transformation to happen - first starts with us actually wanting it. The reality of it is - we will grow to the degree that we want to grow, we will change to the degree that we want to change, and even more so to the degree that we are willing to change. You've gotta' want it and you can't really do this work half-ass.We have to have a deep desire to know ourselves and to be in proactive participation in our own healing. We need to be working in participation with Love and we have to be in love with what becomes possible! As for wanting others to change, I always say, “You cannot save people from themselves — they've gotta want it for themselves.”So the question to consider is… Do you truly want change?KK's Takeaways:• We Will Transform (6:19)• Shifting Our Perception (11:30)• Tap Into Your Desire To Change (14:22)• Ask Yourself Why Do You Want To Do This? I've noticed more and more that lots of people want to jump right into “being a noun” or “having a title” or “getting the results” and skip all the action pieces or as I like to call them - the verbs - required to get there. Saying things like: I want to be more, feel more, or have more like “fill in the blank” but the actions required to reach that outcome do not follow the statement. They're all talk and no action - and they're certainly not making use of the tools, the practices or the insights within their reach to make what they want happen or to move the needle in their next right direction. At some point, it becomes important to realize that one may be more attached to the idea of a thing - than to the actual requirement to achieve the thing.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how we do ourselves a disservice when we don't back up our words with real-deal actions and how we can course correct and change all that when we consciously commit to following through and be a verb!KK's Takeaways:• Be A Verb (2:55)• All Talk No Action (6:04)• Talk Is Cheap (8:50)• You are what you do (11:00)• Bringing Your Dreams To Life (15:15)• Keep Your Word To Yourself (18:02)• Taking Action (23:35)• Spiritual Mentor (26:01)• Get Yourself In Gear (27:58)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. Assumptions are similar to what I like to call “interpretations of or expectations from the past.” They also often live in the space of incomplete information… where we write stories that we believe to be the truth; even though we might not have any real clue about WTF is actually going on. Ha!Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're taking a look at assumptions, how we make them, who we make them about and what their effect is on us, others and the world around us.Assumptions lack curiosity and imagination. They don't ask questions or seek to understand, because they come from the land of - “I already know”. They're rigid and don't allow space for the possibility of what could actually be. Instead they come from a place of predetermined outcomes - where how it can be - has already been decided from predictions based on what has been.Today with this episode, I invite you to create a little more room for curiosity, creativity, communication and compassion because those are the things that actually create connection!KK's Takeaways:• Assuming Gets In Our Way (3:23))• What Happens When You Don't Take Action? Our nervous system is always asking things like, “Am I safe?”Often this line of questioning begins when we're wicked young - even pre-verbal. As children, we scan our environment and look around for someone to support, protect and provide nurturing and nourishment for us and for lots of kids in many instances, we didn't find it. So it's not so surprising that as an adult, you may not feel particularly safe or connected all the time and this can show up in our relationships. A lot of us are trying to navigate this whole being human experience as a healthy, kind, mature, emotionally intelligent adult, but we didn't always have a great beginning, or we maybe didn't have access to the tools, support, resources or good role models that would help us to show up a little bit differently.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how that trauma that happened in our early lives can run on repeat well into adulthood, if we don't inquire about it, unshame it, and do our best to heal it. What went down — will come up, and sometimes it will arrive as things like anxiety, depression; and other habits, patterns or addictions that we may need outside support with.So be kind to yourself and take this episode as my invitation to slow down and start to pay attention to how things and you are showing up. Notice when unresolved stuff from your childhood is trying to get your attention and make this kind of internal work a priority, because this is one of the ways we can operate from a place of love and safety and wholeness, instead of fear.KK's Takeaways:• Fascinated By The Human Experience (4:02)• The Impact Of Childhood Trauma On Adult Relationships (8:26)• You Are Not Alone. (12:05)• Trauma Affects Relationships (18:07)• We Are Affected By The Environment That We're In (22:45)• How The Word “Trauma” Can Be Taken Out Of Context (26:18)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. Growing up, life happens and “people be people-ing” - so all of these different scenarios play out all around us and some of those suckers can leave a mark.It can affect the way that we start to think, feel, believe and how we come to view ourselves, each other and the world around us.As a result, we are sometimes left with a “film of fear” over the lens we view the world with. This fear creates a separation between ourselves and others, ultimately making everything so much harder to “see”, process, connect with and ultimately navigate our way through life.A cracked or distorted lens leaves us unable to see clearly and determines our experience of this whole being human thing.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about changing the lens we look through. A Course in Miracles describes the world and how we perceive it as a “witness to your state of mind, an outside picture of an inward condition.” So, when we shift our perspective, from fear to love, we can start to see situations, ourselves and surrounding people with more clarity, curiosity and compassion. If the lens that we look through determines everything, the question is how clean and clear is your lens?KK's Takeaways:• Changing Your Lens - Changes Your Perception. A famous film director once shared an interesting spiritual perspective about Superman that has always stayed with me and it inspired this episode!I like to believe that we are in some way extensions of the Divine. Spiritual beings who are made up of energy and Love. Yet at some point, on this crazy journey called life - we've forgotten that these human bodies and these ego-personalities we show up in, are not based on our true self. They're our “alter egos”, a costume we wear during our human experience here, and the identities we create around them. Today on the Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about a sort of “spiritual amnesia” that has us forgetting who we truly are, where we came from and what our ultimate purpose is.Instead, we find ourselves attending this little weirdo human Halloween party, wearing a disguise that kinda' hides our true nature, has us trying to blend in, and often conforming to societal expectations that only work to dim our inner brilliance. With today's episode I extend an invitation to shed the costume of our ego, get curious and ask ourselves...Who am I really beneath the facade, mask and costume and what do I think I'll become when I return this temporary outfit to the “costume shop”?KK's Takeaways:• Superman Was Born Superman (2:49)• We Are Extensions Of The Divine (4:42)• Love Is Eternal (9:13)• Spiritual Amnesia (10:54)• We Are Not Of This World (14:49)• Love Is Our Superpower (16:52)• We Are Love (19:02)• Alter Ego (22:28)• How Social Media Affects Us (23:43)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. In our relationships, whether personal or business, we sometimes get lumped into or identify with either the “giver or taker” group. While we tend to have a natural tendency towards one group over the other, it's important to recognize that we all shift and navigate between the two depending on the specific circumstances and dynamics at play.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about “givers and takers” - plus transactional relationships vs. reciprocal relationships - and how both sides, if we're not aware, can have a negative effect on our nervous system and how we approach the people around us.The key to remember here is that both “givers and takers” can quickly get out of whack and move into these imbalances where unhappiness and resentment live.So if you are a taker, it doesn't mean you're “bad”. Sometimes taking is warranted and necessary, but it is our job to know when we've reached the line and might want to start reeling ourselves back in.If you're a giver, there's a healthy line for you to keep an eye on too. Although giving can be appreciated and welcomed and it often makes the person doing the giving feel good, over-giving can lead to exhaustion, overwhelm, martyrdom and eventually meets the breaking point of resentment. So where's the balance and what is it we need to pay attention to in order to not miss it?Find out when you join me for this week's episode and together let's make our way to the middle and do our fair share of both giving and taking.KK's Takeaways:• Nice People (3:26)• Giving Mode (8:54)• Places Of Safety (14:02)• Transactional vs Reciprocity (20:03)• Nurturing & Nourishing (25:06)• Imbalance (30:29)• Relationship With Social Media (36:08)• Clarity & Awareness (41:42)• Ask Yourself Why (45:49)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. Have you ever had the urge to metaphorically strike a match and toss it at your business or some other part of your life?Do you ever find yourself kinda' feeling like this thing you were once passionate about, you now find boring and you feel trapped, or done or just completely over it? Whatever the reason, there's all this chatter in your head and you just don't feel like doing it anymore. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the times in life when we get frustrated or bored or things feel out of alignment and we just want to set it all on fire.If you've ever had the urge to burn it all to the ground just know that I totally get it. I've been there and I hear you, loud and clear! When that happens, you might want to hit pause, take a deep breath and a step back and put down the matches! If this is where you are at, I'm here to let you know there's another way. You are most likely in need of a redirect, a pivot, a change in direction, or what is known as a “controlled burn”.Instead of setting everything in your business or relationship ablaze, perhaps you just need to let go of and burn away a small section or part that's no longer working for you.We can set intentional little “fires” that promote healing, create space and generate regrowth rather than total destruction! * A resource I mention in this episode is Samantha Garcia's wonderful new book: Regenerative Business: How to Align Your Business with Nature for More Abundance, Fulfillment and ImpactKK's Takeaways:• The Roof Is On Fire (3:43)• Balcony Of Support (6:40)• Aligning Your Business With Nature* (9:24)• Finding Your First Job (11:25)• Controlled Burns In Business (16:40)• Balcony People (21:24)• Feeling Misunderstood (24:09)• Storytime Hypnosis (26:47)Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. I'm wicked excited because today on The Karen Kenney Show, I'm talking to one of my beloved mentors, the multi-award-winning author and in my own words “super-duper smarty pants”, Melissa Tiers!Melissa is the founder of the Center for Integrative Hypnosis in New York and it's been said about her, “When it comes to coaching and the brain, Melissa Tiers is known as ‘the teachers' teacher' all over the world.”So when I had a chance to work with her to expand and deepen my own skill set, to experience her magic and to get certified in Integrative Hypnosis and “coaching the unconscious mind” - it was a total no brainer!Melissa is hands down one of the most curious people you'll ever meet.I would even say that it's her enthusiastic curiosity that first brought and now keeps Melissa as a sought after-hypnotist, and one of the top brilliant minds and thought leaders in her field of work. She's always fascinated by about altered states of consciousness, the limits of everyday human perceptions and how we can learn to bend and shape them.Even after writing four books (three of them award-winning), teaching all over the planet and with decades of studying, intense seeking, and hands on experience on the topic of the unconscious mind, she'll still tell you that she doesn't know it all. She knows that there is always room to expand her knowledge, research and experiment further and continue to play in this area of neuroscience that can, does and will make a difference for humanity in an ongoing way. It's this beautiful blend of compassion, confidence, and curiosity that first attracted me to her as a teacher (that along with her NY accent and her liberal use of adult language) and keeps her as someone that I'm thrilled to get to study with and continue to learn from! Are you curious now too? If so, buckle up; this is going to be a fun ride!KK's Takeaways:Curiosity Brought Me Here (6:53)Hypnosis Was A Hobby (10:12)Shift In Perspective (16:13)Cultivate Noticing (23:35)Playing For Change (31:03)Unconscious Mind (37:22)You Are The Expert (42:32)MELISSA TIERS BIO:Melissa Tiers is a multi-award-winning author, speaker, coach and Hypnosis instructor. We all have an idea in mind of a look, a feeling, and a life memory of confidence in which we felt very confident. However, we don't always carry that confidence around with us. Depending on the situation, people or events, we may even feel inferior at times. The subconscious mind — our inner voice controls quite a bit about how we feel about ourselves. Our unconscious thoughts can be ardent supporters, telling us to feel about the way we look and our abilities. Are you having negative thoughts? What if we could gain control over our inner voice and re-teach it to be more supportive, positive, and helpful? Lily Masco is certified in Integrative Hypnosis and Coaching the Unconscious Mind through “The Center for Integrative Hypnosis by Melissa Tiers”. She possesses an array of certifications in hypnotherapy, neuroplasticity, and weight management, along with a degree in Communication minoring in Psychology at Marist College. Lily is straight up honest and so grounded about her health and weight loss journey. She's not sugarcoating any of it and she's certainly not trying to come off as perfect. She described herself as someone who in the past was really lacking self confidence and was impulsive and had no willpower when she found herself bedridden, experiencing fatty liver and getting kidney stones, and not at a weight that was comfortable for her. Tune into today's episode as Lily shares how she overcome this pain and how hypnosis helped her conquer the physical discomfort. As I told them in the interview, if there were some kind of award for a wellness power couple (I'm sure some magazine is working on it), I would sure as hell nominate Brooklynites acupuncturist Dr. Sarah Biffen and hypnotherapist Daniel Ryan. Not only are they both accomplished AF, but they're also genuinely very kind and cool people— none of the cringey egotism or false humility you often see with folks at the top of their field, but just grounded expertise and open curiosity. In this conversation, we go everywhere from exploring how we are making meaning (and not) out of COVID-19, my burning questions about past lives/past life regression therapy, how the hypnosis community reacted to Jordan Peele's Get Out, what acupuncture needles actually do and why you don't need to be afraid of them (I commit to actually trying it after this pandemic mess is over!), and so much more. For a little about Sarah and Dan, see abbreviated bio's below— more info on them, and links to stuff we mention in the episode, is available at the show notes for this episode here. Oh, and if you listen to this episode the week it airs, here's some important time-sensitive event info that Sarah mentions at the end of the episode! Make sure to check out her upcoming 4-week virtual workshop series, "Go the F*ck to Sleep," co-hosted with yoga teacher Annie Wild. It runs Thursday evenings (8-9pm ET) starting THIS Thursday 5/28— and you better believe I will be there... the quarantine sleep struggle has been toooo real over here. Melissa Tiers is the Founder of The Center for Integrative Hypnosis and has a hypnosis practice in New York. She is an educator in Neuro-Linguistic Psychology and Integrative Hypnosis and a teacher for The International Association of Counselors and Therapists. Melissa was a recipient of NGH’s 2014 President’s Award for her excellence in the field. She Is also the author of several books such as Keeping the Brain and Mind: Practical Neuroscience for Coaches, Therapists and Hypnosis Practitioners and Integrative Hypnosis: A Comprehensive Course in Change. Melissa joins me today to share her views on the value of curiosity and the framework that forms Therapeutic Memory Reconsolidation. She reveals how hypnotherapists can better serve their clients and how they can resolve the internal wars of becoming a hypnotic professional. She also shares the two elements that determine the success of any talk therapy and how dramatic shifts in the mind occur. “Once Therapeutic Memory Reconsolidation trickles down in a significant way, from the laboratory to the clinician’s office, that is when the entire field of talk therapy will be turned on its head.” - Melissa Tiers How the Integrative Hypnosis book demonstrates how quickly hypnosis techniques and understanding are advancing. The updates that Melissa has found to influence her work better, including the framework and levels. How the Self-Direction Neuroplasticity Frame helps clients get out of anxiety and a craving state. How the Therapeutic Memory Reconsolidation neutralizes triggers. How memory reconsolidation affects neural networks and updates and shifts ideas, beliefs, and values. How Looping attacks the client’s problem from different angles to compound the desired change. Why hypnotherapists need to sell the change and recognize that hypnotic suggestions are more than just a series of words. The importance of the client’s conscious buy-in, coaching the unconscious mind and having a compassionate listener. The two main things that predict the success of any therapeutic intervention.
