Short Description (shows in podcast apps): Your thymus shrinks 3% every year from your teens — and 80% of adults carry a dormant virus silently hijacking their immune capacity. Lisa Tamati breaks down the science of immune aging, the CMV factor, and evidence-based strategies using colostrum, carnosic acid, and targeted bioactives to rebuild your immune architecture. Full Description: Your immune system doesn't just fight colds — it's the foundation of your longevity, brain health, and recovery capacity. But here's what most people don't realize: immune aging (immunosenescence) begins as early as your teenage years, and your thymus gland — the training ground for your T-cells — is already shrinking. In this episode, Lisa dives into the Immunosenescence Paradox: why aging makes your body less effective at fighting infections while simultaneously driving chronic inflammation (inflammaging). She also uncovers the CMV Factor — a silent virus carried by roughly 80% of adults that "occupies" your immune system's resources, leaving you increasingly vulnerable to new threats. What you'll learn in this episode: – What immunosenescence is and why it accelerates faster than most people expect – How your thymus gland deteriorates and what that means for T-cell production – The CMV Factor: how cytomegalovirus silently depletes your immune reserves – Why aging triggers more inflammation, not less — the inflammaging paradox – Four actionable strategies to slow and reverse immune decline – The role of colostrum, carnosic acid, and New Zealand-grown kawakawa in immune rebuilding – Which blood markers reveal your true immune age Resources mentioned:
This is an early conversation I am bringing back because it feels even more relevant now, the intersection of AI and art is turning into a real cultural shift.I sit down with Marnie Benney, independent curator at the intersection of contemporary art and technology, and co-founder of AIartists.org, a major community for artists working with AI. We talk about what AI art actually is beyond the headlines, where authorship gets messy, and why artists might be the best people to pressure test the societal impact of machine learning.Key takeaways• AI in art is not a single thing, it is a spectrum of choices, dataset, process, medium, and intent• The most interesting work treats AI as a collaborator, not a shortcut, a back and forth that reshapes the artist's decisions• Authorship is still unsettled, some artists see AI as a tool like an instrument, others treat it as a creative partner• The fear that AI replaces creativity misses the point, artists can use the machine's unexpected output to expand human expression• Access matters, compute, tooling, and collaboration between artists and technologists will shape who gets to experiment at the frontierTimestamped highlights00:04:00 Curating science, climate, and public engagement, the path into tech driven exhibitions00:07:41 What AI art can mean in practice, datasets, iteration loops, and choosing an output medium00:10:48 Who gets credit, tool versus collaborator, and the art world's evolving rules00:13:51 Fear, job displacement, and a healthier frame, human plus machine as a creative partnership00:22:57 The new skill stack, what artists need to learn, and where collaboration beats handoffs00:29:28 The pushback from traditional art circles, philosophy and intention versus novelty00:37:17 Inside the New York exhibition, collaboration between human and machine, visuals, sculpture, and sound00:48:16 The magic of the unknown, why the output can surprise even the artistA line that stuck“Artists are largely showing a mirror to society of what this technology is, for the positive and the negative.”Pro tips for builders and operators• Treat creative communities as an early signal, artists surface second order effects before markets do• If you are building AI products, study authorship debates, they map directly to credit, accountability, and trust• Collaboration beats delegation, when domain experts and technologists iterate together, the work gets sharper fastCall to actionIf this episode hits for you, follow the show so you do not miss the next drop. This week, I've been thinking about something slightly uncomfortable. Last weekend, I was reviewing one of my older architecture diagrams from five years ago. A cloud-native migration plan I was deeply proud of at the time. It was clean. Structured. Scalable. And then I asked myself: If I were to rebuild this today in the era of generative AI… Would I build it the same way? The honest answer? No. Not because it was wrong. But because our assumptions have changed. Two years ago, AI was a feature. Today, AI is shaping architecture decisions. We're not just designing systems anymore. We're designing systems that design, generate, predict, and automate. And here's the tension I keep seeing in enterprise conversations: Everyone wants AI. But very few are asking: "What technical debt are we creating while chasing it?" That's why today's conversation matters. Today, I'm joined by Maxim Salav, based in Australia, someone who works deeply in enterprise architecture and technical debt remediation. And this episode is not about hype. It's about responsibility. Because AI doesn't remove architectural complexity. In many cases, it amplifies it. Let's get into it. Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Technical Debt and Architecture 01:34 The Impact of AI on Technical Debt 04:12 Generative AI and Architectural Challenges 08:40 Adopting AI in Organizations 12:26 Building AI Strategies and Governance 17:33 Data Quality and AI Integration 22:43 Guardrails for AI Adoption Episode # 181 Today's Guest: Maxim Silaev, Technology Advisor and Enterprise Architect He is a technology advisor and enterprise architect with more than two decades of experience working with high-growth companies, complex systems, and business-critical platforms. What if the real risk to our health isn't aging itself, but becoming metabolically weak?Dr. Gabrielle Lyon — physician, researcher, and one of the leading voices redefining how we think about health and longevity — shares why muscle sits at the center of lasting strength, energy, and vitality. In this wide-ranging conversation with Dr. Michael Gervais, she explores why health isn't something to manage later with prescriptions, but something to build deliberately through strength and daily discipline.Dr. Lyon's muscle-centric approach reframes aging and performance: real longevity is not about doing less, but building the capacity to do more — with purpose, clarity, and resilience. From the science of protein and training to the psychology of sustainable health, this conversation offers a roadmap to living strong, not just long. You'll learn:Why muscle is the organ of longevityHow to build metabolic health through training and nutritionThe key to balancing strength, performance, and recoveryHow to approach GLP-1 drugs (like Ozempic) with nuance and cautionWhy physical strength fuels mental resilience and purpose_______________________________________________________Links & ResourcesSubscribe to our Youtube Channel for more conversations at the intersection of high performance, leadership, and wellbeing: https://www.youtube.com/c/FindingMasteryGet exclusive discounts and support our amazing sponsors! Yulun Wang, executive chairman and co founder at Sovato Health, joins Amir Bormand to unpack the next wave after telemedicine, procedural care at a distance. If you have ever wondered what it would take for a top surgeon to operate without being in the same room, this conversation gets practical fast, from the real bottlenecks inside operating rooms to the health system changes required to make remote robotics mainstream.Key takeaways• Better care can actually cost less when the right expertise reaches the right patient at the right time• Telemedicine is already normalized, which sets the stage for faster adoption of remote procedures once infrastructure and workflows catch up• Surgical robots already have two sides, the surgeon console and the patient side, today connected by a short cable, the leap is making that connection work reliably across hundreds or thousands of miles• Volume drives proficiency, the outcomes gap between high volume specialists and low volume settings is one of the biggest reasons access matters• Operating rooms spend more than half their time on steps around surgery, which creates room to dramatically increase surgeon throughput when workflows are redesignedTimestamped highlights• 00:42 What Sovato Health is building, bringing procedural expertise to patients without requiring travel• 02:10 The early days of surgical robotics and the transatlantic gallbladder surgery on September 7, 2001• 05:30 The counterintuitive idea, higher quality care can reduce total cost in healthcare• 10:27 What actually changes for patients, local hospitals stay the destination, expertise becomes the thing that travels• 14:57 Why repetition matters, the first question patients ask is still the right one• 17:53 Inside the operating room schedule, where time is really spent and why productivity can jumpA line that sticks“Healthcare is different, higher quality, if done right, costs less.”Practical angles you can steal• If you are building in regulated industries, adoption is rarely about the tech alone, it is about trust, workflows, and incentives• If you sell into health systems, position the value around system level outcomes, access, quality, and margin improvement, not just novelty• If you are designing new workflows, look for the hidden capacity, the biggest gains often sit outside the core taskCall to actionIf you want more conversations like this at the intersection of tech, systems, and real world impact, follow The Tech Trek on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Could your daily habits be secretly speeding up aging, draining your energy, and clouding your mind without you even realizing it? In this episode, we're exposing oxidative stress, the hidden force quietly damaging your cells and fast-tracking everything from dull skin and fatigue to chronic disease. In today's episode, I'm joined by Dr. Nayan Patel, one of the leading voices on cellular health, to break down the science, reveal the most common triggers, and show you exactly how these “invisible” stressors fly under your radar until it's too late. You'll learn the early warning signs that most people ignore, why even healthy habits can backfire, and what every woman should know about staying ahead of the aging curve—long before health issues set in. We're simplifying the science so you can spot trouble early, protect your health, and make choices that really move the needle. You'll walk away feeling empowered instead of overwhelmed, with a clear action plan for younger, stronger cells (and glowing skin to match). Ready to find out what's really behind your fatigue and how to fix it before it costs you? Hit play and let's dive in.If this resonates and you'd like to dive deeper into glutathione (the master antioxidant) and how it can help slow aging and fight disease, grab a copy of Dr. Patel's book The Glutathione Revolution here.
If you're feeling like your freelance business is shifting beneath your feet—but you can't quite name what's changed—you're not alone. Most writers sense something is different… but they don't know how to respond strategically. In this solo episode, I dive into what I believe is the real driver behind the changes we're seeing in the freelance writing space. Yes, the economy has cooled, and that's still a big factor, since marketing is one of the first areas to get cut when business is slow. But AI is now playing a much bigger role than most writers realize. And the pace of disruption is happening much faster than we're used to. I break down the data, the two dominant schools of thought about where AI is taking us, and the five predictions I'm making about the next 18 months. More importantly, I share what I believe you can do right now to adapt and thrive, no matter where you stand on the AI debate. Whether you've been avoiding AI, tinkering with tools randomly, or wondering how to respond to market shifts… this episode will help you make sense of it all and chart a path forward with confidence. What You'll Learn What's really behind the shrinking pool of freelance writing work, and how AI factors in The “two schools of thought” on AI's long-term impact (and which side I lean toward) Why capability gaps (not talent) are quietly holding writers back What makes this wave of disruption different from anything we've ever faced before Five bold predictions about AI and the freelance market between now and the end of 2026. Key Insights and Takeaways The Economy Isn't the Whole Story Yes, budgets are tighter. But the shift we're seeing in client behavior and referral flow can't be explained by economics alone. AI is already changing how content is created and reshaping client expectations behind the scenes. You're Not Just Competing With Other Writers You're competing with writers plus AI, and clients don't always realize that's what's happening. But they do notice faster turnaround times, deeper insights, and stronger strategy. That's the new baseline. The Problem Isn't Tools, It's Random Tool Use Most writers are reacting to AI passively or using it without a clear strategy. That only leads to frustration and overwhelm. The ones who are thriving are using AI to systematically identify and close capability gaps—areas they previously avoided due to a lack of experience or confidence. Exponential Change Is Hard to See... Until It Isn't We've moved from the “gradually” phase to the “suddenly” phase of change. Each new model is doubling the power of the last. If you're still measuring AI by what it could do six months ago, you're behind. The 18-Month Window We're entering a short window where positioning yourself strategically—through capability expansion, not random experimentation—can lead to exponential growth. But that window is closing fast. Writers who miss it may find themselves permanently behind. Action Steps You Can Take This Week 1. Identify Your Competitive Blind Spot Is there a type of project, industry, or strategic conversation you avoid because you feel underqualified? That's your gap. Write it down. 2. Use AI to Explore That Gap Leverage tools like ChatGPT or Claude to research the format, reverse-engineer a successful project, or role-play a strategic conversation you'd normally avoid. 3. Reframe How You Think About Your Capabilities Instead of saying “That's not what I do,” ask, “If I had the right support, could I deliver excellent results here?” 4. Pick One Gap to Work on Systematically You don't have to fix everything overnight. But momentum starts with a single capability. Choose one, and take the first step. Memorable Soundbites “The disruption is happening faster than most writers can process because our brains aren't wired for exponential change.” We're not at the beginning of the chessboard anymore. We're nearly halfway there.” “You're competing with writers plus AI, not just with other writers.” “The tools stay invisible, but the performance gap becomes obvious.” “This isn't about learning tools randomly. It's about using AI systematically to close your biggest capability gaps.” “Six months from now, you'll either be expanding your capabilities or watching the gap between you and your competitors widen.” “You don't have to become an AI cheerleader to respond strategically. You just have to be honest about what the market is telling you.” “Hope is not a strategy. Especially when the ground is shifting this fast.” If this episode struck a chord, I'd be honored if you shared it with a fellow writer or freelancer. Until next time, keep writing, keep adapting, and keep building the business you actually want—not just the one you think you're stuck with.

You train hard. You eat well. You take care of yourself. So why does it sometimes feel like your body is aging faster, not better? In this episode, we're breaking down two powerful — and often misunderstood — concepts: biological age and your pace of aging. We'll explain what they actually mean, the science behind the metrics that influence them (like HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep), and how they reflect what's really going on inside your body. Whether you track this data with a wearable like WHOOP or not, the protocols we share today will help you slow down the clock and build a stronger, sharper, more resilient version of yourself — one habit at a time. You'll learn: The difference between biological age and pace of aging What metrics like HRV, RHR, and respiratory rate actually tell you How your training, sleep, and stress habits shape your aging process A reset protocol to drop your pace of aging this week Supplements and lifestyle tools to support long-term longevity Because aging better doesn't happen by accident — it happens when you show up with intention. Most people assume that aging means inevitable decline—but health and mindset can tell a different story. At 53, Steven Kotler set out to defy the so-called “long slow rot” of aging by learning how to park ski, a feat most experts believed was biologically impossible past 35. Along the way, he uncovered that many of our mental and physical abilities are “use-it-or-lose-it” skills—ones we can actively train to extend performance, youthfulness, and joy. In this episode, Steven shares the science behind peak performance aging, how mindset shapes longevity, and why dynamic challenges like action sports may be the secret to staying young and profiting. In this episode, Hala and Steven will discuss: (00:00) Introduction (01:22) The Inspiration Behind Studying Peak Performance (02:25) Debunking the Long Slow Rot Theory (04:16) Use It or Lose It: Physical Skills (06:54) The Importance of Dynamic Activities (16:57) Mindset and Aging (21:29) Overcoming Personal Traumas (27:59) Fluid vs. Crystallized Intelligence (32:43) Advancements in Regenerative Medicine (34:07) Learning and Cognitive Health (34:52) Three Types of Thinking for Better Aging (35:42) Business Opportunities in Hiring Older Adults (37:20) The Importance of Physical and Mental Activity (42:07) The Power of Authentic Learning (50:51) Insights from the Blue Zones (56:33) The Role of Flow in Aging and Performance Steven Kotler is a New York Times bestselling author, an award-winning journalist, and the Executive Director of the Flow Research Collective. I'm skeptical of any claim of a “formula” regarding personal evolution. And you'll notice I say “a formula” and not “the formula.” But many things can be boiled down to some core ingredients. The difference in my opinion is this formula is less like a cooking recipe you just easily mix and bake and is more like an intense formulaic math equation you must diligently work out. I feel Steven Kotler does a masterful job of deducing peak performance down into its essence and from it you can see where you need to give focus and attention and work. Hey everyone, welcome back to Biohacking Beauty! In this episode, we're diving deep into a truth most skincare routines ignore: your environment might be aging you faster than time ever could. We start with a story of two identical twins, same genes, same skincare habits, but drastically different aging outcomes. Why? One lived surrounded by clean nature. The other, in an urban jungle filled with air pollution, EMFs, blue light, and toxic stress. The difference wasn't just visible, it was cellular. In this episode, I explore how environmental stressors silently sabotage your skin by disrupting three critical biological systems. First, they deplete NAD+, second, they interfere with your epigenetic expression. And third, they impair autophagy, your body's natural recycling system.I'll walk you through the Skin Longevity Matrix, a radically different framework we developed at Young Goose to reverse aging from the inside out, by supporting your skin at its biological roots, not just masking symptoms at the surface.Let's dive in! If you're a fan, no. You're chomping at the bit, waiting to get everyone using GenAI models in their work. If you're skeptical, then you might think it's never coming to take your job, be a personal assistant, help you with coding, etc. Pick the task it won't help you with. A more nuanced view, which is similar to mine, is from Kendra Little, in which she says AI will eliminate DBA Jobs Faster Than You Think, I'm not quite as pro-AI as Kendra, mostly because I see so many companies that are slow to change, slow to adopt new tech, slow to adjust their thinking. They just soldier on and keep running their business, as they've been doing for decades. Even when you might make a case for change, or prove it's worthwhile, they just don't spend the time to change. Read the rest of Is GenAI Coming Faster Than You Think?

On this episode of Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different, we look back on a fascinating deep dive with renowned author and peak performance expert Steven Kotler. The conversation centers around Kotler's book, "The Art of Impossible," which explores the intricate relationship between motivation, neurobiology, and the pursuit of extraordinary achievements. This episode will break down the key insights to help you harness your potential and achieve remarkable results. You're listening to Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different. We are the real dialogue podcast for people with a different mind. So get your mind in a different place, and hey ho, let's go. Understanding Intrinsic Motivation Steven Kotler begins by unpacking the concept of intrinsic motivation, which he identifies as a crucial driver for human performance. He highlights five key elements: Curiosity, Passion, Purpose, Autonomy, and Mastery. These components not only fuel our desire to excel but also enhance our focus and engagement in activities. Kotler emphasizes that these intrinsic motivators are hardwired into our biology, suggesting that when we align our actions with these motivators, we can achieve remarkable results with less effort. Kotler illustrates this point by referencing the neurochemicals involved in passion and love, particularly dopamine and norepinephrine. He recalls the intense focus and attention one experiences when falling in love, noting that this heightened state of awareness comes effortlessly. This natural inclination towards passion and engagement, he argues, is a testament to our biological design, which favors extraordinary achievements. The Consequences of Not Going Big A striking assertion made by Kotler is that not striving for greatness can have detrimental effects on our well-being. He argues that human beings are inherently wired for extraordinary accomplishments, and failing to pursue big goals can lead to negative outcomes. This perspective challenges conventional views on motivation and success, suggesting that complacency can be harmful. Kotler points out that many of the issues plaguing modern society, such as depression and anxiety, can be linked to a lack of meaningful work and engagement. He identifies eight major causes of depression, two of which—genetics and severe trauma—are often highlighted. However, he emphasizes that these factors account for less than half of the equation. The remaining causes are rooted in our biology and motivation, particularly the absence of work that aligns with our values, passions, and the opportunity for mastery. The Importance of Meaningful Work One of the most significant insights from Kotler's discussion is the idea that meaningful work is essential for mental health and fulfillment. He explains that when individuals engage in work that lacks curiosity, passion, or autonomy, they are more likely to experience feelings of emptiness and depression. This lack of alignment with intrinsic motivators can lead to a sense of stagnation and dissatisfaction. Kotler argues that the modern workforce often overlooks the importance of these intrinsic motivators, leading to widespread disengagement. He stresses that when people are not allowed to pursue their passions or develop their skills, they miss out on the flow state—a mental state of complete immersion and focus that is crucial for peak performance.
