Episode #555! Blazing Combat and Atlanta! We are finally back with a new episode! Fresh off his trip to Atlanta, Scott tells us all about it and some shops he might have visited. In 1965, publisher Jim Warren and writer/editor Archie Goodwin produced Blazing Combat magazine. Each black and white issue was illustrated by the top comic book artists of the time including Wally Wood, Gene Colan, John Severin, Alex Toth, George Evans and Russ Heath. Although only four issues were completed, all featured covers painted by Frank Frazetta. We check out Fantagraphics' Blazing Combat HC which features each issue and interviews with Warren and Goodwin. Definitely check it out!

Martha Otton was among the busiest attendees at the recent Canadian Gaming Summit. The executive director of iGaming Ontario was a ubiquitous presence around the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, whether it was speaking formally with operators in Ontario's regulated sports betting and igaming market in her role as executive director, participating in a panel on the province's successful industry with OLG president Duncan Hannay, OLG board chair Jim Warren and AGCO CEO/Registrar Dr. Karin Schnarr, and holding a cornucopia of informal conversations. Otton, who was put in charge of creating the conduct-and-manage subsidiary of AGCO in February 2021, also made time to join us on the latest episode of the Gaming News Canada Show. We solicited some additional thoughts to her words at the conference about the iGO-commissioned report conducted by Deloitte around economic contribution from Year 2 of a regulated industry which today includes almost 50 operators and 80 gambling websites/apps. Our interview occurred minutes after Alberta minister Dale Nally announced the western Canadian province will follow Ontario's lead in opening a regulated gaming marketplace, so we asked Otton for her reaction. The iGO boss also addressed the ongoing evolution of legal gambling in Ontario and her still-young organization's focus on improving its use of technology and data. Hosted on Acast. Jim Warren, like thousands of other people, believed in God. In fact, he went to church--not every Sunday, but most Sundays. He was good man. He worked hard to support his family. He was faithful to his wife, Ruth, and occasionally took his boys fishing. Jim really didn't need God. He had too many other good things going for him.

I'm sharing more insights from the group travel industry in the second episode of a special three-part series of Destination on the Left episodes from the National Tour Associations Travel Exchange in Reno. I'm excited to share their thoughts on key trends and challenges as we move into 2023. In this episode, you'll hear from: Jim Warren, US Group Specialist at Anderson Vacations Lorna Davis, Global Sales Manager at Travel Oregon Mark Brodeur, International Tourism & Group Sales Director at Visit Rhode Island Nick Calderazzo, President at Twin Travel Concepts Peter Pantuso, President & CEO at ABA Ryan Robutka, Senior Manager for Market Development at Via Rail Canada Todd Read, Trade & Consumer Sales Manager at SoIN Tourism Group Travel Wisdom The National Tour Associations Travel Exchange I have loved talking with all the amazing, experienced group tour specialists at the NTA about how they envision the future of their sector. During our short interviews, I also asked them about current trends they are seeing in the industry, where their challenges lie, and the one word they would use to describe their experience of the National Tour Associations Travel Exchange. You'll be fascinated by their answers! Jim Warren, US Group Specialist at Anderson Vacations Jim reflects on trends that Anderson Vacations has been seeing in the group travel industry, including the customer desire for smaller groups. He describes how they have leveraged that trend and started to develop smaller group experiences of between 12 and 20 people and why they are keen to move that trend forward. Lorna Davis, Global Sales Manager at Travel Oregon In her mini-interview, Lorna talked to me about the number one issue that Travel Oregon is facing right now and how they are moving through that challenge. She describes some of the ways they endeavor to meet the demands of group travel customers despite often struggling with adequate staffing. Lorna also shares the need to be genuinely hospitable and greet guests with a smile no matter what's going on behind the scenes. Mark Brodeur, International Tourism & Group Sales Director at Visit Rhode Island Mark's word to describe the NTA Travel Exchange is ‘opportunity'. He shares why he loves participating in the knowledge exchange that the event allows and how it helps Visit Rhode Island stay abreast of current trends in the group travel industry. He also digs into some of the trends his destination is seeing right now, including creating personalized experiences within the group travel niche. Nick Calderazzo, President at Twin Travel Concepts In our conversation, Nick reveals that his organization is seeing later bookings and reflects on why people are waiting longer to make decisions. He also shares the changes he has seen in the senior group travel market, particularly their growing comfort with looking for and booking their travel online and the need to build unique, off-the-beaten-track experiences. Peter Pantuso, President & CEO at ABA According to Peter Pantuso, expectations in the group travel niche are changing. He discusses how they are creating individualized experiences for guests within a group tour and likens the experience to a cruise where people are traveling together but also have the opportunity to split into smaller groups to satisfy different interests. Peter firmly believes that understanding the need to provide something for everyone will be a key theme in 2023. Ryan Robutka, Senior Manager for Market Development at Via Rail Canada One of the challenges Ryan Robutka of Via Rail Canada has faced over the past couple of years is doing more with less. He describes how despite their staff being extremely stretched, they have been able to come through and offer the experience that travelers are looking for. They have committed to protecting the core experience their travelers are looking for in addition to catering to some of the more recent trends in the group travel industry. Todd Read, Trade & Consumer Sales Manager at SoIN Tourism Todd and I discuss the future of group travel, including the greater need for flexibility. He shares what SoIN Tourism can do as a DMO to help group travel organizations set up fantastic experiences for guests and how their intimate knowledge of their destination can help. As he says, ‘you can't just sit back and do what you've always done.' 2023 and Beyond in the Group Travel Sector My guests make it clear that the future outlook for the group tour industry is bright, and its evolution is opening up new opportunities for all stakeholders. They highlight the small group trend that started before the pandemic and continues today, and how that trend opens up new destinations in group travel. We also discuss the importance of remaining flexible and continuing to change with the industry, and move through challenges with grace. We value your thoughts and feedback and would love to hear from you. Leave us a review on your favorite streaming platform to let us know what you want to hear more of. Free For All Friday, hosted by Amanda Galbraith, features top talent from across the iHeart radio talk network. Hosts from all over the country join the roundtable to discuss the five biggest stories of the week. This week's show features panelists Natasha Hall, co-host of Montreal Now on CJAD, and Jim Warren, president of Riseley Strategies, a national columnist with the Toronto Sun and a political analyst for CTV. Topics: Canadians face record gas prices ahead of Thanksgiving weekend. Are you worried we're going to have an energy crisis? Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp suffered worldwide outages earlier this week. Would you have been okay if it never came back? Trudeau says he regrets travelling to Tofino on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Do you accept his apology? There's an outpouring of support for Carey Price as sports shift away from mental illness stigma. Do you have any fun holiday traditions?
Has your life in Christ been based on having prayed a prayer so you can go to heaven when you die? Is the way you live as a follower of Jesus simply doing your best, expecting God's grace to cover your sins? Does your faith in Christ drive you to active obedience, or are you still making excuses when your life is not conformed to the demands of the New Covenant? As the 2021 summer of Review continues into week twelve, Jim Warren resumes his comparison of how kingdom Christianity makes and grows disciples of Jesus with the ways of conventional culturalized Christianity. In this episode, we look at the key issues necessary for becoming and making disciples of Jesus, or as some may say, “getting saved.” We will continue to see how this subject flows perfectly from our recent study of Philippians chapter three, verses seven through ten. One major reason the modern conventional culturalized church has fallen flat on its face is that most of us have gotten off on the wrong foot. Because of this, many will have to go back to the beginning to bring about the radical revitalization of conventional Christianity. After all, as Jimbo often says, this radical revitalization will only happen one person at a time. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support
After finishing the three-part lesson on Paul's radical attitude and actions that resulted from his conversion, Jim Warren begins a new four-part lesson on Making And Growing Disciples. In this episode, Jim introduces these new lessons in the Getting' Down to the Nitty-Gritty section of Cultural Christianity Versus Kingdom Christianity. He begins by defining sacrificial invested ministry as the heart and soul of authentic Christian ministry and outreach. He also speaks about developing redemptive relationships, which are essential to making disciples where the name of Jesus has already been heard. Throughout this section, Jim encourages his listeners to remember that authentic conversion includes the intertwined elements of repentance and active faith producing obedience. You will remember this from the lessons on Paul's radical attitude and actions found in Philippians 3:7-10. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support
As the 2021 Summer of Review moves into its tenth week, Jim Warren concludes his study on Paul's radical attitude and actions found in Philippians 3:7-10. In the final two verses, Paul, acting as the conductor of the symphony of his life, introduces more instrument groups increasing the dynamic crescendo bringing every past note to a final dramatic blast of unique sounds. Each phrase of these verses calls every person to drop to their knees in repentance and the authentic faith that produces obedience. As he has in the past two episodes dedicated to this vital segment of scripture, Jim shares with you the robust meaning of both the nouns and verbs, uncovering a lifestyle hidden to the casual reader. This entire series of three episodes will be one you will cherish and listen to over and over again as you seek to live the authentic life of a radical disciple of Jesus. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support
In this 2021 Summer of Review teaching, Jim Warren takes us deeper into the unfolding radical attitude and actions of the Apostle Paul. Not only did Paul consider his religious and cultural life a damaged loss and a detriment to his partnership with Jesus and His kingdom, but now he adds more. In this episode, we learn that Paul was so radical that he considered the whole of every kind and variety of things in their totality not only a damaged loss and a detriment, but he saw them as doggy-dew to be scraped off his sandals! Paul commands us to have this same radical attitude and take these same radical actions in verse seventeen. So here is the question: “Are you eating doggy-dew sandwiches, or are you scrapping the whole of every kind and variety of things in their entirety off your shoe and focused totally on Jesus and His kingdom?” Next week we learn the results. Will you be ready? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support
YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS EPISODE! This part of the 2021 Summer of Review starts the most important three podcasts Jim Warren has ever created! These three episodes are so important they have become the basis of a new book he has written. In Philippians 3:7-10, we learn the radical attitude and actions of authentic repentance and faith. Unfortunately, these are missing from many of the conversions from the conventional, culturalized church. This missing element leads to a huge number of problems not only in the faith communities but in the lives of many who claim the title Christian. Thus, Houston, We Have A Problem! In this first of three episodes, Jim explains the three key ways we learn about life in the kingdom from the New Covenant, his intensified version of these passages, and how to get a copy of this version. Finally, he finishes off digging into verse seven. Verse seven forms the groundwork for understanding how radically intense, authentic repentance is in the life of a disciple of Jesus. Oh, yes, it is in these next three episodes where one of Jim's favorite sayings is heard repeatedly, NO MORE EXCUSES! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support
In last week's Inside Jimbo's Head segment of the Hello, Jimbo Speaking Podcast, Jim Warren started sharing the Biblical perspective on the Kingdom of God with some first thoughts on why “kingdom of God” and “kingdom of heaven” are interchangeable terms. He continues those thoughts in this episode and then turns to something that will “blow your socks off.” Jim will define for you the gospel! Think you do not need to listen to this one because you know the gospel? Well, guess what? The gospel you may have heard was probably about going to heaven when you die and having God's help to do your best until you get there. If that is the case, what Jim has to say about the gospel of the kingdom of God will turn your world inside-out and upside-down! Go ahead. Give it a listen. But beware! This episode will change EVERYTHING. LET'S GET RADICAL! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support

In this podcast on “What is Kingdom Christianity?” Jim Warren reviews what has been said in previous podcasts about the fastest growing church in the world, the church in Iran. First, however, he talks about the effects this move of God has had on Western missionaries who have spent time studying this unique, first-century model of Christianity. Then, after sounding the trumpets, Jim begins his Biblical perspective on the kingdom of God as he answers the questions, “What is Kingdom Christianity?” This first episode will give you a great overview of the subject and instill in you the reality of God's kingdom already on the earth in this age. As Jim puts it, “It's time to stop waiting for the future, for the future is NOW!” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support
113: How to Balance the Mission and the Business as a Nonprofit Leader (Jim Warren)SUMMARYMany nonprofit leaders struggle to maintain their passion for the organization's mission as they grapple with the management realities required to run a complex nonprofit business. If you're wrestling with that “mission versus business” tug-of-war, Jim Warren is the perfect person to know. Jim is the Executive Director of the Carolina Raptor Center, and brings his energy and wisdom from 40 years in the nonprofit sector to episode #113 of the Path Podcast. Jim and I discuss what's helped him maintain his passion over the years as well as the practical approach he's taken to leadership development, life-long learning and building a team of talented staff and board members.ABOUT JIMJim Warren has been at the Carolina Raptor Center since January of 2006, and has served as its Executive Director since May of 2011. Jim's journey in nonprofit leadership began as an intern with the Charlotte-area YMCA, and led to a job offer from that organization before graduating from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. He continued to develop his leadership skills as the Superintendent of Aquatics for Mecklenburg County, NC, and then as Associate Executive Director for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte and Chief Operating Officer for the Upper Marlboro YMCA in Rock Hill, SC. He returned to the Raptor Center as the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and then assumed the senior role. Jim notes the best part of his job is working with others who are passionate about CRC, both staff and volunteers. (Who wouldn't love driving into a nature preserve each day?). IN case you were wondering, if he were reincarnated as a raptor, he would be a Great Horned or Barred Owl, “because they seem laid back, but they know how to get down to "business, and are extremely protective of their families.” Jim enjoys mountain biking, snow skiing, hiking, spending time with my family, reading, and listening to music.EPISODE TOPICS & RESOURCESTom Peters' book In Search of ExcellenceSteven Levitt's book FreakonomicsCheck out Quest at the Carolina Raptor CenterReady for a Mastermind? On this week's 2021 Summer of Review, we go back to January of 2020, where Jim Warren, Jimbo, was finishing up answering the question, “What is Cultural Christianity?” Taking in the basic premises of any culture has always been disastrous to the church down through history. However, in the last century, the seepage of American cultural principles has brought the church to its knees. While this may come as a big surprise to most 21st Century American Christians, the facts do not lie. In the last episode, Jim discussed how rationalism and individualism are antithetical to the principles of God's kingdom. In this episode, he takes on the foundational principles of American culture, pragmatism, and independence. Finally, Jim summarizes all four episodes that have tried to answer “What is Cultural Christianity?” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support
Having discussed the origins of the American culture in S1E3 (not a part of the 2021 Summer of Review), Jim Warren turns our attention to the first two pillars of American culture, rationalism and individualism. All four of the pillars of Americanism have had very positive results for all those focused on secular goals. Nonetheless, they have had a devastating effect on those who are called to live according to the culture of the kingdom of God. By the way, if you claim the title “Christian,” you are not only called to live by the kingdom culture but are commanded to live by your king's teachings, which define the kingdom's culture. If you think you can combine the pillars of American culture and the pillars of kingdom culture . . . Well, let's just say that is why Houston, We Have A Problem! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support
In this second week of the 2021 Summer of Review, Jim Warren takes us on a cultural journey. He helps us understand what culture is and its importance in forming the lives of people. He also speaks to the basic tenets of American culture, its founding based on the Age of Enlightenment, and how American culture is in transition. Oh, yes. He also points directly to the problems in the American church coming from American culture seeping into the culture of the Church. This seepage is how the kingdom culture from which the church and its citizens should operate has been replaced, leading to the problems discussed in the last episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jimbospeaking/support

Jim Warren wanted nothing to do with Christianity. He often mocked people of faith, even while his own life went down a wild and wandering path. It wasn't until old age that he encountered the deep grace and love of God. Don't miss his powerful story, right now, on “UNSHACKLED!”

They attended church on and off, and at times, seemed to Jim to be hypocritical. This pushed him away from church and from a young age, he stopped attending. As he grew, so did his vocal atheism. In college, Jim often engaged in church-bashing with friends. He majored in psychology, which led him to work as a school counselor. His first marriage was a self-described train wreck and it wasnt until he was older that Jim met his now-wife, Toni. He married her with the ultimatum that they would never attend or discuss church. But at age 69, Jim heard of Jesus love through a television preacher and he gave his heart to the Lord. Toni soon followed and they now love church and serve the Lord joyfully.
Andy and Derek are pleased to have as a guest on their show Bill Schelly. A new edition of his book, Otto Binder: The Life and Work of a Comic Book and Science Fiction Visionary, was released earlier this month from North Atlantic Books. The guys talk with Bill about the legendary writer's work on the Captain Marvel and the Marvel family, his impressive run on Superman titles, and his role in the early science fiction pulps (mostly under the name he used when collaborating with his brother, Earl, Eando Binder). As they point out in the conversation, there are facets to Binder's life that are overshadowed by his work on the Big Red Cheese, and Bill's book thoroughly chronicles the sides of Otto Binder that you may not have known. Examples of this would include Binder's work at EC Comics, his writing for Jim Warren's Creepy, his close ties to comics fandom, his attempts at becoming science magazine publisher, and his later-life research on UFOs. They also discuss the darker aspects of Binder's life and the challenges he faced in his last decade. In addition to their discussion of the new Otto Binder book, the Two Guys also talk with Bill about his other works, including last year's biography of Harvey Kurtzman, his research on Joe Kubert, his upcoming book on John Stanley, and his histories of comics fandom. The guys come away from their conversation arguing that Bill Schelly's research is indispensable to comics scholars and that he continues to provide detailed and highly readable, almost novel-like, chronicles of the medium.
