In the Flamingo Lounge with Rockabilly Greg

This week's guest, Mr. Conrad, joined Rockabilly Greg In the Flamingo Lounge on November 19, 2024. Mr. Conrad, a lifelong lover of blues, rockabilly, and swing, has been immersed in the music scene since his early teens. Inspired by legends like Big Joe Turner, Bill Haley, and Chuck Berry, he dove deep into the genre's history, discovering influences like T-Bone Walker. A pivotal moment came in 1969 when he saw Jerry Lee Lewis perform, inspiring him to pick up the piano. After gaining experience in local bands, he joined the East Side music scene in Buffalo, jamming with renowned musicians like Eli Hall and Count Rabbit. This exposure honed his skills and instilled a deep understanding of the music's emotional core. In the 1980s, Conrad formed Mr. Conrad and The Excellos, gaining local recognition. However, his ambition led him to Austin, Texas, where he collaborated with renowned musicians like Keith Ferguson. He later moved to Los Angeles, further solidifying his reputation as a talented guitarist and performer. Now back in Buffalo, Mr. Conrad continues to share his passion for blues and rockabilly, captivating audiences with his energetic performances. His deep knowledge of the genre and his dedication to the music make him a true legend in the Buffalo music scene.

Sunday morning at 11:00am is still the most segregated hour in America. Churches across America are perpetuating many of the racial problems in the United States. We gather together, worship together, "do life" together and eventually become each other's best friends. Because of the segregation within churches, this can create communities of people who only have meaningful conversations with people who look the same, believe the same, think the same, vote the same and have similar experiences. The segregation within the church knowingly or unknowingly continues biases, stereotypes and discriminations outside of the church. Keith Ferguson planted and Pastors CityView Bible Church in Round Rock, Texas. Keith is not only a Pastor, but a husband, father and community leader. In November of 2016, an intrepid cast, band, and crew entered North Hollywood, California's El Portal Theatre, and set up for the brilliant challenge of recording twenty-five short, holiday-themed stories before a live audience. Like an advent calendar, but with less religious-affiliation and only slightly less chocolate, the 2016 Audio Advent Calendar was born. It was too good to hear just once.  “Peace” Is it possible that it’s easier to achieve than we grown-ups think it is? Today’s episode features the words of children of various ages, in response to questions about peace. Performed by Abel Arias, Brett Bayonne, Keith Ferguson, Jenny Flack, Robyn Roth, Denny Siegel, Kiff VandenHeuvel, and Silvie Zamora. Original music by Gary Grantham (percussion) and Scott Passarella (keyboard). This series was an honour and a joy to produce. Many thanks to the cast, contributors, the friendly folks at ComedySportz LA (located in El Portal Theatre, where we recorded before a live audience), and to Josh at MxxMasterSound for capturing it all. Big, loud thanks to those who you can't hear on the podcast. Kimia Behpoornia was our Winter Solstice Elf (who delivered each delicious truffle to the audience members who summoned read each date) and El Buen Cacao provided those chocolates.
