We've got a different crew on deck this week! Bart is finally back from his couple month stretch of inconvenient scheduling and we've got Sobi back from the Champions Tour. Pinkalla is in the house for this one and the boys catch up on everything that's been going on lately. Bart details his recent trip down to iCast and narrowly made it out of Florida before the airline crisis hit the USA. The boys finally get to talk about the release of Niku Plastics, after working on this project for almost 2 years now. We then have Professional Angler Matt Stefan join the Pod, we chat about being a business Owner in the industry, his transition into YouTube, and his chase of all the In Fisherman Master Angler fish. After Matt leaves the show we catch up on Bart's recent fishing tournament experiences, and end with a little section of "Geared Up" from Sobi that will make you feel electrified as you leave the Pod.

If disturbance kills those taller plants, replacements regrow from the ground and add to the fuel. Prescribed burns are a fire mitigation tool used with the aim of reducing fuel load to minimise the intensity and severity of fires. However, while prescribed burns can sometimes decrease flammability in the short term, the way they disrupt forest ecosystems can create longer periods of additional flammability. “Very frequent burning close to homes or control lines could create defendable spaces, but large, remote and infrequent burns maintain the landscape at maximum fire risk because they undermine the natural controls that forests place on fire," Associate Professor Zylstra said. The remote areas that burn have often been extensively logged eg Eden NSWRECENT MESSAGE FROM BOB BROWN FOUNDATION JULY1STAn end to native forest logging should have happened more than a decade ago but this list is another killing plan to feed export woodchippers, Malaysian timber company Ta Ann, and Victorian sawmills that have no social licence,” Jenny Weber, Bob Brown Foundation's Campaigns Manager said.“Kilometres of new wilderness-destroying roads will be slashed into ancient forests that have never seen a chainsaw, including taxpayer-funded roads into untouched Takayna rainforests and 6km into the Wentworth Hills near Lake St Clair. Clearfell operations in areas essential to the critically- endangered migratory Swift Parrot have been drafted despite the threat that poses to the species,” said Erik Hayward, Bob Brown Foundation Campaigner. “Lines on maps have been drawn that carve up some of the most remarkable natural landscapes this globe has to offer. For the defence of our natural world we will remain committed and defiant in the face of this complete abandon,” said Erik Hayward.“Over the last six weeks, hundreds of Australians joined the largest protest against native forest logging in Tasmania in the last decade, in Takayna. Prime Minister Albanese needs to immediately put an end to such native forest logging in Australia, which is requested by more than 75% of Labor's voters,” said Jenny Weber. Don't look away from methane : An investigation by ACF and the global non-profit Clean Air Task Force last year detected methane escaping from more than 100 sources at 35 industrial sites in Queensland and NSW. “When it comes to rapidly reducing Australia's most potent climate heating pollution, cutting methane emissions from the coal and gas industry is low hanging fruit.”Methane emissions are believed to account for about 30% of the global temperature rise(link is external) since the industrial revolution. Dave Grey is a lifelong outdoorsman who was on the winning boat at the recent Unleash the Beast challenge on the French River/ Lake Nipissing. Despite not being familiar with the water, Dave and his boat partner managed to bag the biggest fish and win the challenge. We reached out to Dave to talk about how he formulated his winning strategy and to talk about his huge event on Lake St Clair in November - The legendary Musky Brawl! In this first episode, we talk about: how Dave and his outing partner approached fishing a relatively new lake (to them) and netted the biggest fish out of 60 seasoned anglers at Unleash the Beasteffectively working baits on the French River and Nipissing the business of making and selling baits adapting baits to make them heavier and targeting deeper fish
In this episode, Ryan awakens from hibernation and tells tales from aboard Leo's Ranger from a recent trip to Lake St. Clair. Nate Bud gets called up from the miners and recaps his family Lake Nipissing outing with Big Dave and company. Finally Owen outlines how to acquire assets that are not liabilities and eventually talks about joining team tracker. Congratulations Owen on buying a new boat!!!! We end the discussion on trying to determine the greatest musky lure of all time , discussing yinzers versus yunzers, all while staying out of Na-Na's Yucca Plants.

May 26, 2023 ~ Travis Samperi, US Border Patrol Agent discusses boat patrolling on Lake St Clair and the surrounding rivers.
IN THIS EPISODE WE ARE TAKING OFF ON THE FIRST PART OF OUR LAP OF TASSIE. For those of you who don't know me, I don't like driving much especially on windy roads, I certainly don't like getting lost and I am not keen on navigating somewhere I haven't been before – so what could go wrong? Oh, and also, we won't be using the “C” word on this road trip – camping – nope, no tents or campervans to be found. We start off in Hobart and drive through New Norfolk where we first encounter a large group of motorcycle riders. Not like your stereotypical “bikie gang” more like the John Travolta Wild Hogs vibe. We continue on our windy road to the beautiful Lake St Clair, but not before we tell you about the incredible 100m x 3m wooden sculpture that you can't take pictures of and how we came across one of those Wild Hogs who had come off his bike. Lake St Clair wilderness area and national park is spectacular, the lake is the deepest lake in the wilderness in Australia and is surrounded by walks and hikes of all levels and terrains. We share the ones we did and also where you can access the “60 great short walks of Tasmania” We splurged a bit on our accommodation, and we tell you why we were pretty disappointed with it and also how I ended up on top of an anthill the morning we left. We cover the next part of the journey to Strahan on the wild west coast. We stop on the way at one of our favourite little spots in Tassie – Nelson falls. It is just so pretty. Then we arrive in Strahan, and just love this quaint little place which is the gateway to the Franklin Gordon River National Park. We take you on a sunset cruise to Hells Gates, the convict settlement of Sarah Island and the amazing Gordon River National Park as the sun is setting. I save a very special and interesting fact about Strahan (that even Lyle didn't know) to the end of the episode – so stay listening to hear that – you won't be disappointed. So please enjoy the first instalment of our Lap of Tasmania. This week I am talking about how to become Penny! LOL. I get asked this question A LOT. As in, how did I become an instructor, how do I get to sail offshore, how do I get people to pay me to teach them, etc. So many questions about my sailing path, so here it is! Where it all started... I am one of the lucky ones. I started my sailing journey (apparently) at about a year old when I was tucked under my grandfather's arm and shot off into the St Lawrence River on our laser. There are variations of this story including me being tied off to the mast, but I doubt that! Anyway, I was baptized by the salt water at an early age and moved up the ranks bailing the bilges of the boats I was sailing on. I spent my summers sailing in the Gaspe with our neighbour, Betty Cornell. She had two beautiful wooden boats that needed A LOT of bailing between tides. I soaked up every bit of knowledge from her and my grandfather and eventually began formal sailing lessons with the Canadian Yachting Association at the ripe old age of 5. I absolutely loved dinghy sailing and I worked my way up to Silver Sail V before switching over to coaching. At first my interest in earning money outweighed my interest in actually coaching, but eventually I discovered a love for teaching others. I loved the challenge of trying to explain something to someone in different ways. It kept my skills as a sailor growing. The path to success At the age of 15 I volunteered to coach for a summer because I was too young to officially be hired. I also started exploring keelboat sailing at this age and realized I enjoyed going home dry and unbruised. So, by 17 I completed my Bareboat Skipper certification (Intermediate Cruising), and by 21 I was an Advanced Cruising Instructor living on a 40' CS Merlin (Great Habit) up in Georgian Bay. My summers were spent cruising around Beckwith Island, Giants Tomb Island, Beausoleil Island(s), and so many other beautiful places. I was teaching for Harbour West Sailing Adventures, and in order to get our boats from Hamilton up to Georgian Bay each season, we would offer an Advanced Cruising boat delivery course. We would start off in Hamilton, head out to Lake Ontario, then south through the Welland Canal and down to Lake Erie. Lake Erie was always fun with the shipping. fishing, UXOs and shipwrecks, nevermind if the winds picked up. We would head West along the length of Lake Erie then head north to the Lake St Clair and through the St Clair River. Navigating up that river at night will cause seizures! So many navigational aids all blinking at different intervals. Then we would arrive in Lake Huron and make our way North-East to Georgian Bay. Our home base in Georgian Bay was the Midland City Harbour, so we would go past Tobermory and Flowerpot Island, and we'd give the inmates at the Penetanguishene Correctional Facility. All the extras... I am a lifelong learner. I have always really enjoyed learning new things, so when I jumped into the world of keel boating, naturally I also jumped into navigation. When I was 17 I completed my Coastal Navigation course and 20 when I took Celestial Navigation. Now Coastal Navigation has continued to be used over the years, however Celestial has not, so I'll be redoing that course this winter with a colleague Lars. As I've always been around water, swimming is also a big part of my life. I completed all of my swimming levels and became a swim coach and lifeguard when I was 16. For some of the youth sailing camps I would coach sailing in the morning and then coach swimming in the afternoon! It was a great program to get kids comfortable on the water. I also take a first aid course every two years and I was a ski patroller for a few winters (to help get through the cold months!)

‘The flood in the Darling 1890’ is one of several ambitious canvases painted by WC Piguenit in response to the devastating rains that inundated the western region of New South Wales in 1890. It reflects his respect for the terrifying yet sublime power of nature so admired by exponents of 19th-century German Romantic painting. The largest flood recorded since 1864, waters broke the embankment and submerged the remote township of Bourke – an event Piguenit witnessed first hand. However, rather than depicting the destroyed buildings and railway lines, and the loss of livestock and human life, he has rendered the calm after the deluge. A vast expanse of sky, land and water is rendered as a symphonic celebration, with billowing purplish-hued clouds reflected across a vast glistening expanse reaching towards the viewer – ibises the only living creatures populating the tranquil landscape. Son of a convict transported to Van Diemen’s Land in 1830, William Charles Piguenit is often credited as the first Australian-born professional artist. Raised and schooled in Hobart, he spent 22 years working in the Department of Lands survey office as a draughtsman. Although he received rudimentary instruction in painting, he was largely self taught. After leaving the survey office in 1872, he began making sketching and photography trips to remote and spectacular regions in the Tasmanian wilderness. He achieved early success through public patronage when he exhibited his works in the annual Sydney and Melbourne academy shows. His striking ‘Mount Olympus, Lake St Clair, Tasmania, source of the Derwent’ was the first work by an Australian-born artist to be acquired, in 1875, by the Art Gallery of New South Wales. That same year, Piguenit joined an artists and photographers camp in the Grose Valley in the Blue Mountains. By 1880 Piguenit had settled in Sydney with his family. Continued patronage by the Gallery enabled him to tour New South Wales and Tasmania, providing fresh inspiration for his grand, sweeping landscapes and measured studies of the natural environment. Piguenit continued his successful career well into the 20th century, including the completion, in 1903, of the commanding ‘Mount Kosciusko’ which was commissioned by the trustees of this Gallery; the majestic depiction of the continent’s highest peak marking the enormity of the Federation of Australia in 1901.
