Don't look for restraint here, things are about to get wild! This week's comic is the Tarzan-influenced The Witcher: Wild Animals, a twist-filled blend of circle-of-life philosophy, extreme veganism and frighteningly feral action that left us wanting more…whiskey. Fortunately, we've paired it with the superbly simian Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt, a sweet, straightforward scotch that kept the conversation from getting too civilized. After all, when there are important things to discuss like whether drowners smell like fish, why mothers should handle their own homicides, if Geralt should ask for a refund on his armor and whether there's ever a good reason for a man to drop trou while relieving himself, we wouldn't want something as silly as good behavior getting in the way.
Issue 53 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd brings you the Remakes Tribunal where we put bad filmmaking on trial. Continuing our 40th Anniversary edition of films from 1984, first up we ask whether a remake deserves to exist: (deep breath) Greystoke The Legend of Tarzan Lord of the Apes. Then we offer a Parole Board to a film which failed the first time, and ask if the disastrous big screen version of Supergirl could be redeemed with a remake. The other two parts of this issue are already out: Double Reel Monthly and Classics and Hidden Gems, and we hope to bring you a Spotlight episode soon.

This week Zak and Stevie escape to the Congo with Tarzan and Jane in the 2016 action adventure.
Could "The Legend of Tarzan" possibly swing any further from the tree of its classic source material? That's the vine Dan and Tony are shaking this week as we unpack the jungle of issues plaguing this cinematic misadventure. Join us for a romp through the tangled underbrush of this film's narrative missteps, from Tarzan's questionable life in England to those CGI critters that couldn't fool a two-year-old. Get ready for a ride that's part critique, part comedy, and entirely unfiltered.Let's address the elephant in the room—or should we say the hippo? Tarzan's animal buddies might be on the CGI side of unbelievable, but nothing beats the head-scratching action sequences and a certain character's newfound hobby of rosary-slinging. And while we've got a soft spot for Samuel L. Jackson trying to save the day, even he can't rescue this film from its own narrative quicksand. So, what's more realistic: Tarzan's raw egg diet or Alexander Skarsgård's abs? We're placing our bets.Wrapping up, we take a potshot at the film's attempt to be a sequel without giving us the original, like serving dessert before the main course. We'll leave you pondering whether Tarzan's jungle call should be a signal for help or just a sign to switch off the TV. Whether you're here for our take on the king of the jungle or simply crave a hearty laugh at the expense of Hollywood folly, we've got you covered!Be our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT

Fire up that Tarzan pack because we're smoking that Legend of Tarzan on this weeks episode. Where do you even start with this one? Their idea to modernize and update Tarzan from his racists roots is to...have him end slavery in Africa? And use the real life genocide in the Congo by King Leopold II as a backdrop? And have Samuel L. Jackson portray a real life historical figure who has to *checks notes* convince Tarzan he wasn't going to lick a gorilla's scrotum? Yeeeaaaahhhhh, this one is on the third level for sure. And as far as rebooting Tarzan, we got thoughts on that too. We got two more episodes this year for y'all! Our holiday episode and our year end culture wrap up so stay tuned for those! Also, be sure to hit us up with any movies or thoughts for what you'd like to see in 2023! The King of the podcast Jungle is back! This week the boys swing by March 30th, 1984 for the releases of ROMANCING THE STONE and GREYSTOKE: THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, LORD OF THE APES. It's Episode 72: The Legend of Opening Weekend, Lord of The Podcasts!Me Tarzan, you Gene. March 30, 1984: A time of adventure and exploration. A time when Cabbage Patch Kids and RPG nerds and middle school Mathletes ruled the jungle known as the Tri-State area. Just as Ian Holm's Belgian-French-Hobbit-explorer is teaching Christopher Lambert's Tarzan-Not-Tarzan the ways of British civility and decorum, Fred's 6th grade babysitter is teaching him the ways of British black-comedy (The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy) and depravity (A Clockwork Orange). Terrycloth robes may or may not be involved. While Michael Douglas does his best to wear the mantle of Indiana Jones and sweet-talk his way into Kathleen Turner's heart and bed, he's no match for the 7th grade Cassanova of Calculus, the Man-Beast of the Mathletes: Jason “Abacus Finch” O'Connell. (Cue Glenn Close ADR'ing a young female Mathlete moaning and groaning) And Dan's call-back to his sister's Cabbage Patch Kid sends Fred into a deep spiral of repressed memories, dark secrets, and possible Furby-Fetishim. Jeffrey Parker, Jr ain't afraid of no ghosts! And two old friends call in to Romance the boy's Stones and possibly pitch some new business ideas. Bon Ape-Tit!
Alexander Skarsgard makes numerous animal mating calls, Margot Robbie responds positively to said mating calls, Samuel L. Jackson eats ants, Christoph Waltz chokes people with rosary beads. What do these actions have in common? Well, they're all featured in THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, a film that shows that you can take Tarzan out of the jungle, but you can't take the jungle out of Tarzan. But did we like it? Share YOUR thoughts on the movie in the comments.

Jack and Geoff welcome Erin Clarke back to the show for a look at 2016's The Legend of Tarzan! This big-budget attempt to pull Tarzan back into the cultural zeitgeist may not have resonated with audiences, but it definitely pulled our three hosts into a rambunctious conversation you don't wanna miss!
Based on elements within Edgar Rice Burroughs's 1912 novel, "Tarzan of the Apes," Greystoke begins in the late 19th century, where a young couple born into Scottish nobility, Jack Clayton and his pregnant wife Alice, find themselves shipwrecked off the coast of Western Africa. Months later, they give birth to a boy who quickly becomes an orphan when his mother dies of malaria, and his father is killed in an altercation with nearby apes. One of the apes adopts the human baby as her own. When the boy grows into a man, he takes on the alpha male to become the leader of the tribe. Meanwhile, an expedition arrives nearby for specimens for the British Musem. The expedition gets viciously attacked by a native village. Surviving the slaughter is a Belgian named Phillippe d'Arnot, whose life is saved and wounds tended by the mysterious ape-man. Phillippe realizes his savior is the son of the married couple, the Claytons, who built the abandoned cabin in the vicinity. Dubbing the jungle man "John Clayton', d'Arnot teaches him to speak, move, and behave like an aristocrat from civilized society before taking him to his ancestral estate in Scotland to reunite with his grandfather, the Earl of Greystoke. There, John develops feelings for grandfather's ward, an American-raised woman named Jane Parker. Christopher Lambert, Ralph Richardson, Ian Holm, Andie MacDowell, James Fox star. Hugh Hudson directs.

Season 1- Episode 19- "Your Tarzan, She is Jane and you're supposed to save her."....Hello everyone, we are here with another episode of Failed Movie Franchises! This weeks episode is The Legend of Tarzan, Jacob, Ryan and David talk about this movie and why it didn't work. We also tired to figure out where the movie picked up at. David, thought it came from the Disney Tarzan movie. It to him, from where the movie started, picked up from the end of the Disney Tarzan. We discuss Margot Robbie and her accent choice. We debated how Tarzan mimics human voice but also how he can talk with the animals and get help from them. We discussed Samuel L. Jacksons wig in this movie and how they got it right, well a way better looking wig then the one in Captain Marvel. We talked about how great Christoph Waltz and what a great villain he is in his movies. We brought up Ryan's dislike of movies where everything that xan happen, happens. "You hear in the distance a Tarzan yell." Thank you so much for supporting us and spreading the word about Crackers N' Milk. When you're invited to direct a movie adaptation involving one of the most-loved literary creations the world has ever known, you can be pretty certain you won't get a second chance if you mess it up. Thankfully, that's not a fate that befell David Yates. Not only did David take charge of the last four Harry Potter films, he was also asked to make JK Rowling's official spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, which has been greeted with hugely positive reviews. With the budgets attached to the Potter franchise, it is of course possible to secure the services of the best composers in the world. David has taken full advantage of this privilege, variously employing Nicholas Hooper, Alexandre Desplat and James Newton Howard. He also collaborated with Rupert Gregson-WIlliams on The Legend Of Tarzan. You'll hear plenty of their work throughout the conversation, as well as that of John Williams - who provided scores for the first three Potters. We also find out a little bit about his earlier work, and get a blast of Mongolian throat music, which he used to great effect in his BAFTA nominated short film, Rank.
This week on The Harold & Maudecast we check in with Westworld, HBO's drama/western/sci-fi/action/thriller based on the Michael Crichton book and movie starring Yul Brynner. We review episode 7, Season 1, which has a big reveal, but will the show keep us hooked the likes of Stranger Things, hmmm. Take a listen. Also this week two new Now Streaming on VOD reviews, THE NICE GUYS and THE LEGEND OF TARZAN. Both films were theatrically released in the Summer of 2016 to disappointing box office returns. THE NICE GUYS stars Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe as private detectives who accidentally get tangled up in the same case. It's written and directed by Shane Black who knows a thing or two about Buddy action/comedies. He wrote the LETHAL WEAPON films and IRON MAN 3. THE LEGEND OF TARZAN stars Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood) in the title role and Margot Robbie as Jane (SUICIDE SQUAD), Samuel L Jackson (CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR) and Christoph Waltz (SPECTRE film) as the evil industrialist nemesis. Harry Potter fans will be enthusiastic to know that David Yates directed the film. He direct five of The Harry Potter films including the upcoming FANTASTIC BEASTS. Listen to this episode of The Harold & Maudecast and you'll find out which one! hahaha sucked in. But it's worth it.
