Steven Davidson drags Mike into an alternative dimension of the Capozzola mind where things worked out very differently. Amongst other adventures, we hear about Mike's successful crossbow stall at Buckingham Palace, his early years living at Neverland ranch, working with a young David Bowie at the United Nations and why he wil never have more than exactly 5000 fans. No guest ever sees the questions in advance. Thanks to Daisy D and Greystoke for their excellent tunes!
Originally built to store crops from peasant farmers, the tithe barn on the edge of the English village of Abbots Langley was converted into homes that preserve its centuries of history. Now, its residents are fighting to stop a development next door that represents the future. A proposal to build a data center on a field across the road was rejected by local authorities amid fierce opposition from villagers. But it's getting a second chance from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government, which is pursuing reforms to boost economic growth following the Labour Party's election victory in July. Residents of Abbots Langley, 18 miles (30 kilometers) northwest of London, worry the facility will strain local resources and create noise and traffic that damages the character of the quiet village, which is home to just over 20,000 people. As the artificial intelligence boom fuels demand for cloud-based computing from server farms around the world, such projects are pitting business considerations, national priorities, and local interests against each other. The projects are controversial because the data centers would be built on “green belt” land, which has been set aside to prevent urbanization. Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner wants to tap the green belt for development, saying much of it is low quality. Not everyone in the village is opposed. Retiree Bryan Power says he would welcome the data center, believing it would benefit the area in a similar way as another big project on the other side of the village, the Warner Bros.' Studio Tour featuring a Harry Potter exhibition. “It'll bring some jobs, whatever. It'll be good. Yeah. No problem. Because if it doesn't come, it'll go somewhere else,” said Power, 56. One of the biggest concerns about data centers is their environmental impact, especially the huge amounts of electricity they need. Greystoke, the company behind the Abbots Langley center, says the facility will draw 96 megawatts of “IT load.” But James Felstead, director of a renewable energy company, said the area's power grid wouldn't be able to handle so much extra demand. Picking right up from last week, we're continuing our look into the second half of one of the most faithful adaptations of the Tarzan story and giving you our very loud thoughts on it. Don't complain about the noise you knew what you were getting into when you decided to listen to us. Anyway, time to finish GREYSTOKE!
On week 3 of our continuing retrospective of the Tarzan franchise, we're looking at one of the most accurate adaptations of the original story. Despite it being not very well known compared to the other Tarzan movies it's still got a LOT in it worth talking about, which is why this is part 1 of 2 of our look at the 80s classic: GREYSTOKE.
We got to talk about Tarzan for the better part of an hour with two guys who are about to Kickstart a Tarzan book next month. It was a pretty great Thursday, I'm not going to lie. Our old friend D.W. Kann is back with us and this time he brought one of his writing partners, Ryan Matta, to talk about the first volume up their upcoming comic Tarzan The Untamed. Rather than re-telling your typical origin story, D.W. and Ryan are adapting a different time in Tarzan's life: "Book one finds Tarzan and Jane living peacefully in East Africa in 1917 on their secluded Greystoke estate. When their quiet life is suddenly threatened by the encroaching battles of World War I and the machinations of a band of mercenaries, led by the rouge German army officer, Sergeant Schneider, a single minded hunter, determined to find Tarzan. Tarzan must unleash his Savage nature to protect his Ape family, his fellow Englishmen and his true love Jane." For people like me who didn't realize how much their life was lacking in Tarzan content, this is pretty much a no-brainer. As of now, the Kickstarter campaign for the first volume (of three) is set to launch around October 5th with the other two coming later on. If you're looking for more info, check out the KS page where you'll find all the deets on projects past and present. Enjoy! -Jr.

ABOUT OUR GUESTS: Jane Gootnick With college degrees in both acting and set design Jane first moved to Europe working in Belgium and London. In the mid-70's she moved to NYC working with alternative theatre groups (LaMama, Joe Papp's Public Theatre). Jane became head sculptor at Brooks Van Horn Costume Co. making props, masks and creatures for a large variety of venues: Broadway shows (Sweeney Todd, Dracula, Peter Pan), feature films (The Wiz, Hair), Warner Bros walkarounds, commercials, Ringling Bros Circus, and the first four seasons of Saturday Night Live. In 1978, the costume designer for SNL mentioned that the Jim Henson Company was looking for sculptors for a film called The Dark Crystal and suggested she interview. Jane was offered three weeks work to build a prototype support harness for the Skeksis they were developing. So, she left her three-year full-time job for three weeks of work at Henson's and stayed 40 years! Jane has worked in both the New York puppet shop and the London Creature Shop throughout the years. Designing/building puppets and creatures, supervising builds, and running workshops on location for Muppet/Henson films and TV series, (Dark Crystal, Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, Labyrinth, The Storyteller, The Witches, Ninja Turtles, Dinosaurs, Muppets Tonight, The Muppets, etc.). She has also worked on a variety of talk shows, game shows, and awards shows (Oscars, Grammys, Hollywood Bowl and many more). Jane is an art director for print and media photoshoots, film posters and endless fashion shoots with Miss Piggy with Louis Vuitton, Prada and other diva designers. Steve Whitmire Jim Henson invited Steve Whitmire to join his team in 1978 during the height of the popularity of The Muppet Show, and Whitmire had a hand in virtually every Muppet project for nearly four decades. He originated such characters as Rizzo the Rat, Lips the Trumpet Man, Miss Piggy's dog Foo-Foo, and Bean Bunny, and also sustained Richard Hunt's characters, the hapless lab assistant Beaker and codger Statler after Hunt's death in 1992. Upon Henson's death in 1990, Whitmire accepted the duty for the continuation of several of Jim's characters and is best known for his 24-years as Ernie and his 27-years as Kermit the Frog. Projects include Sesame Street and non-Muppet films such as The Dark Crystal, The Witches, Dreamchild and Labyrinth, as well as the popular sitcom Dinosaurs and the classic 1980's television series Fraggle Rock in which Whitmire originated Wembley Fraggle and Sprocket the Dog. After 19 films, 8 television series, numerous specials, multiple sound recordings, and volumes of unique live appearances, Whitmire carries forth the essential principles of the lineage as the foundation for a progressive approach to the art of puppetry in today's world and looks forward to sharing that spirit in his future endeavors. www.stevewhitmire.website Leif Tilden Leif Tilden watched his mother drink herself into a deep depression while living with her in Berkeley California during the late 60's free love movement. After her suicide he moved to Boston Massachusetts where he grew up in a segregated environment where the Irish, Italian and black neighborhoods beat each other up daily. Eventually he would find himself studying experimental theatre in New York City where he discovered his vulnerability through movement and the incredible falafel sandwich. Soon after that, which to him seems like a dream, he found himself inside the soul of a Teenage mutant ninja turtle. Life was good. Soon after that he drove across country for a minimum wage job on a tv show entitled, Dinosaurs for Disney. Life was not good and Leif will explain the details as to why on the show. Day Murch Day worked in the theatre for many years, as a performer in Liquid Theatre, with Stomu Yamashtas Red Buddha Theatre, and the Young Vic, with appearances in provincial rep and the West End, gradually commuting a hobby of designing and making clothes into a career. An early introduction on Time Bandits to the Monty Python team led to a specialist interest in the care and presentation of difficult costumes, with work on The Meaning Of Life, Greystoke, Legend and Fifth Element and several projects for Jim Hensons London Creature Shop. This led in time to making this type of costume and he headed the Fabrication Unit for Nick Dudmans Department of Magical Creatures for the initial Harry Potter Movies, building Hagrid and other fantasticals. In children's television he helped create characters for In The Night Garden , BoohBahs and Zingzillas. He enjoyed a longterm association with the Batman franchise as Batsuit Wrangler with all the Caped Crusaders except Adam West! Now happily retired with his life partner in Wales, he doesn't miss show business. Bruce Lanoil Bruce ”B” Lanoil, spawned in Brooklyn N.Y., raised on steady diet of Saturday morning Cartoons, Sugary cereals, Mad Magazines, Jerry Lewis and Classic Star Trek, is today, a proud and grateful 30 year veteran Muppeteer,.. The Efficiency Expert - Edgar Rice Burroughs - Book 27 Title: The Efficiency Expert Overview: The Efficiency Expert is a 1921 novella by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs. One of a small number of Burroughs' novels set in contemporary America as opposed to a fantasy universe, The Efficiency Expert follows the adventures of Jimmy Torrance as he attempts to make a career for himself in 1921 Chicago. The book is remarkable for the criminal livelihoods of the hero's friends. It was also admitted to being a fictionalization of Burroughs' own difficulties in finding a job prior to becoming a best-selling writer. Though written in 1919, it was first published in the October 1921 edition of the All-Story Weekly magazine. The first book publication was by House of Greystoke in 1966. Based on elements within Edgar Rice Burroughs's 1912 novel, "Tarzan of the Apes," Greystoke begins in the late 19th century, where a young couple born into Scottish nobility, Jack Clayton and his pregnant wife Alice, find themselves shipwrecked off the coast of Western Africa. Months later, they give birth to a boy who quickly becomes an orphan when his mother dies of malaria, and his father is killed in an altercation with nearby apes. One of the apes adopts the human baby as her own. When the boy grows into a man, he takes on the alpha male to become the leader of the tribe. Meanwhile, an expedition arrives nearby for specimens for the British Musem. The expedition gets viciously attacked by a native village. Surviving the slaughter is a Belgian named Phillippe d'Arnot, whose life is saved and wounds tended by the mysterious ape-man. Phillippe realizes his savior is the son of the married couple, the Claytons, who built the abandoned cabin in the vicinity. Dubbing the jungle man "John Clayton', d'Arnot teaches him to speak, move, and behave like an aristocrat from civilized society before taking him to his ancestral estate in Scotland to reunite with his grandfather, the Earl of Greystoke. There, John develops feelings for grandfather's ward, an American-raised woman named Jane Parker. Christopher Lambert, Ralph Richardson, Ian Holm, Andie MacDowell, James Fox star. Hugh Hudson directs.

Salutations, noble comic book savages! In this episode, our intrepid explorers Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) plumb the depths of the dark interior of the African continent when they read Jungle Comics #2, published by Fiction House in 1940! They go through all nine(!) stories within the issues, providing creator bios and background information where applicable, with a special emphasis on the ninth story--the first appearance of the first female superhero, Fantomah by Fletcher Hanks! Then, after a break, the stalwart adventurers detail the life of Fantomah, and give a brief history of Fiction House, a seminal Golden Age comics publisher. Andie MacDowell discusses why there are so few good roles for actresses over 40 and why she thinks that’s about to change. She talks about getting thrown into the deep end on her very first movie GREYSTOKE, the hard work she had to do to get from that film to her break-out role in SEX LIES AND VIDEOTAPE, and what she learned about grief and healing on her latest movie LOVE AFTER LOVE. She discusses why she’s chosen to live outside of Los Angeles until recently, some of the advice she gives to her two daughters who are now acting, and her perspective on Hollywood's long road to Time's Up. LOVE AFTER LOVE opens in theaters Friday, March 30. Follow Andie on twitter at @AndieMacDowell3. Today's podcast was sponsored by Squarespace, AppRiver Grasshopper, Google Cloud Platform.

This was to be the Buffy the Vampire Slayer special of Solid Cat, but in the end, I think we talked more about Christopher Lambert and Highlander. Go fig. However, as always, the Slumber Party of Podcasts is full of random goodies. We highlight our TV viewing, we step on the parents' soapbox, and do a little Bingo and Bondage. Are there aliens in Pittsburgh? There are dead skunks in Buffalo, and it's a twisted tale that features a couple of CSI jokes. In the showcase, the Space Cowboy rambles on about Buffy in a piece just for her, that ends with One Night in Bangkok. We learn which Buffy characters we are. We do the Walk of Shame in Sexytime. We check on Jesus H. Twitter. Buffananza is a gay cowboy porno (it has to be). We're still drinking your tears. "It's that planned out stuff that throws us off." And just in case you're confused after hearing the show, here's the road map for the end of the podcast: pizza - hoedown - jugs - "elder statesman gorilla" - Greystoke: the Legend of Tarzan - Christopher Lambert - Highlander - Adrian Paul in Highlander: the Series - Pokemon. And you know what? All the connections and tangents worked. We totally dominate.
As Hero Heat II rolls forward, Kim and TC take a look at the Lord Of The Apes! Complete looks at the various Tarzan movies, Tarzan on TV, on stage, and several Tarzan tributes and parodies! Plus this weeks' Cinema Subjects, Attack Of The B Movies coverage, your Bonehead Of The Week, a wrap up of the 2008 Summer X Games as well as our thoughts on the opening ceremonies at the Beijing Olympics, and listener E-mail! As always during Hero Heat, we get a bit longwinded, so the show is about 20 minutes over it's normal time to make sure we can accomodate everything - hope you won't mind too much...heh heh heh... Don't forget, complete show notes are at http://popcornnroses.com and http://subjectcinema.com! Next Week, we'll head "south of the border" (kind of) as we take a look at "Zorro With A Z"! See you then!
