In the last few months, widespread starvation has gripped the Gaza Strip. United Nations-backed food security experts say the “worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out” in Gaza, home to an estimated 2 million Palestinians. One of the few organizations still on the ground trying to feed Palestinians at risk of famine is the Gaza Soup Kitchen. This week's guest on More To The Story with Al Letson is Abe Ajrami, a Palestinian who now lives in the US and helps coordinate the organization's food aid. Ajrami talks about the kitchen's extraordinary efforts to help prevent famine in Gaza, the debate over whether the Israeli government is committing genocide against Palestinians, and whether a two-state solution is still achievable.Producer: Josh Sanburn | Editor: Kara McGuirk-Allison | Theme music: Fernando Arruda and Jim Briggs | Digital producer: Nikki Frick | Deputy executive producer: Taki Telonidis | Executive producer: Brett Myers | Executive editor: James West | Host: Al Letson Donate today at Revealnews.org/more Subscribe to our weekly newsletter at Revealnews.org/weekly Follow us on Instagram and Bluesky Read: “It's Abhorrent”: A Whistleblower Contractor Speaks Out as Gaza's Famine Spreads (Mother Jones)Listen: Kids Under Fire in Gaza (Reveal)Learn more: Gaza Soup Kitchen Learn about your ad choices: dovetail.prx.org/ad-choices

This week's episode goes six feet deep — literally. This week, we dig into the terrifying history and paranormal fallout of being buried alive. From 19th-century “safety coffins” with skylights and breathing tubes, to family members haunted by the images of their buried (or accidentally murdered?) loved ones — we look at what people once did to avoid the worst fate imaginable… and whether or not it worked. We learn about Timothy Clark Smith, who designed his own escapable coffin in Vermont; the tragic tale of Octavia Hatcher, who may have awoken in her coffin after a mysterious illness; and Julia “The Italian Bride” Petta, whose body was found eerily preserved six years after her burial — and whose ghost still wanders the cemetery in a white wedding gown. Plus, a listener story includes a chilling paranormal discovery: a girl buried alive in the desert, revealed by a haunting spirit. Whether it's nightmares, bells ringing from beneath the ground, or brides turned ghostly guardians, this episode explores just how thin the line between life and death can be — and what lingers when we get it wrong.
Monday Headlines: Anthony Albanese says Israel is "quite clearly" breaching international law by withholding aid from people in Gaza, US Gov divided over Ghislaine Maxwell pardon, YouTube is continuing to try and persuade the government not to include them in the under-16s social media ban, Do shark nets save lives or not?, and Gwyneth is now involved in the Coldplay kiss cam saga. Deep Dive: What does it take to stop starvation being used as a war crime? Over 28 countries, including Australia are calling on Israel that the war on Gaza “must end now”, with the United Nation saying one in five children are malnourished due to Israel blocking aid from entering the strip. Now, over 20 months in, Israel is allowing small airdrops of aid in three populated areas of Gaza for 10 hours a day, but the United Nations agency has called the announcement of the drops a ‘distraction’. In this episode of The Briefing, Tara Cassidy speaks with Georgia Tacey from Save The Children, about what she witnessed on the ground in Gaza, and the people fighting to expose Israel’s use of starvation as a war crime. There's a saying that goes, “All regulations are written in blood.” And it's true. If given the opportunity, companies will cut corners and find loopholes to make their jobs easier or cheaper or skirt some kind of oversight. And when it all goes wrong, when there's blood on their hands, when there's a dozen microphones in their face, the people in charge always look contrite. And that's infuriating, isn't it? The mundanity of that kind of evil. They wanted to save a couple of bucks and now people are dead and hurt and they're sorry. Today, we're talking about two cases where hundreds of people lost their lives because some bigwig at the top didn't like the idea of spending a little more money. Since October 2023, Israel's siege on Gaza has turned food — the most basic human need — into a weapon of war. Today, the entire population is on the brink of famine. Babies are dying. Mothers can't produce milk. And even if food is allowed in, for many, it may already be too late — because refeeding after starvation can be just as deadly. Nearly 800 Palestinians have been killed just trying to access food at the U.S. and Israel have backed a aid network called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation — run by private American military contractors and coordinated with the Israeli army. Instead of relief, these sites have become militarized “death traps” where hungry Palestinian are met gunfire. Our guest is Dr. Yara Asi — a Palestinian public health expert who's been sounding the alarm since the start of this genocide. We talk about the science of famine, the deadly effects of starvation and refeeding, and how Gaza's food system — and its people — are being systematically dismantled. - - - - - Support our work Help us continue our critical, independent coverage of events in Palestine, Israel, and related U.S. politics. In this episode of The Muckrake Podcast, Jared Yates Sexton discusses the horrific tragedy in Texas with floods killing over 100 people, the rise of climate fascism, and how demand for climate and economic justice have to be at the center of a movement fighting authoritarianism. From there, he digs into Elon Musk's proposed "America Party" as an astroturfed attempt to create a party in the thrall of the oligarchical class, but also a possible precursor to multiple parties challenging our current duopolistic system. The stunt in Los Angeles with federal troops driving tanks gets talked about, as well as the Department of Justice declaring there is no Jeffrey Epstein client list. Australian reporter Ross Coulthart stated during a recent podcast that he has learned from an unnamed insider that the so-called “Tic Tac” UFO witnessed by the U.S.S. By examining Scriptures such as Daniel 2 and the early chapters of Acts, we uncover how God's Spirit leads to the creation of a dynamic community founded on divine guidance and love. Explore how the Holy Spirit uses spiritual gifts, challenges, and worship to shape a church that focuses on Christ's majesty and mission. Join us as we discuss how to engage with God's purpose and partner with Him in building a resilient, Christ-exalting temple that reaches the world.Daniel 2:31-35, Acts 6-7, 1 Corinthians 12:11, John 15:26- Understanding the imagery of the rock in Daniel 2 - Lessons from the early church's growth and challenges in Acts - The role of spiritual gifts in building a strong community - How worship and proclamation of Jesus as the Lamb influence our mission
