We promise you a journey of knowledge where you'll uncover the subtle yet significant differences between mentor coaching and coaching supervision. Listen as Angelos leads us through the labyrinth of coaching skills, explaining how supervision is a co-reflective process that enhances more than just our skills, but also our self-awareness, professional boundaries, and ethical understanding. He elaborates on how supervision can paint a holistic picture of work, ultimately augmenting a coach's leadership strategy.Isn't it intriguing how mentor coaching and supervision can diverge yet remain intertwined in the coaching journey? Angelos elaborates on this in our discussion, highlighting how mentor coaching is about the 'doing' - being a developmental process that hones in on skill building within specific competencies. In contrast, supervision is about the 'being' and the 'becoming' - a transformational process focusing on what happens around the coaching sessions, enabling a deeper understanding of oneself and promoting personal growth. Whether you're a seasoned coach or just starting out, Angelos's expert insights can elevate your coaching journey to new heights. In this interview, we talk with Master Mentor Coach, Clare Norman, about her article " Un-learning - The key to mentor coaching." Before we became coaches, we each developed ways of seeing the world that kept us safe or gave us a sense of belonging to the "tribe," whether that tribe was a family system, a peer group, or our coach training cohort. The best coaching works on the “who” of the thinker, so that the “what” falls into place with ease (per Marcia Reynolds in Coach the Person, Not the Problem). The same holds true for learning to coach. The best training and the best mentor coaching work on the “who” of the coach, their beliefs, mindsets and paradigms, so that the “what” of the coaching competencies falls into place with ease.In this podcast, we will discuss what mentor coaching is, why we need to change our our mindsets and how we can apply them to our coaching practices.  With over 20 years of coaching experience, Clare Norman MCC is highly sought after by other expert coaches, as well as successful coach training companies as a Master Mentor Coach. Clare looks to continually sharpen individuals' coaching edge and upskill mentor coaches so they can deliver high-quality feedback to their coaches-in-development.Her laser focus on mindset shifts and her knack for spotting marginal gains has made her a go-to person for coaches looking for mentorship and practical, meaningful ways to improve their practice. In this episode we are exploring Historical Imprints: In Ethology, imprinting is any kind of phase-sensitive Learning (learning occurring at a particular age or a particular life stage) that is rapid and apparently independent of the consequences of behaviour. It was first used to describe situations in which an animal or person learns the characteristics of some stimulus, which is therefore said to be "imprinted" onto the subject. Imprinting is hypothesized to have. Imprinting is important for raising the young, as it encourages them to follow their parents. This is referred to as "filial imprinting." For example, in the wild, animals learn to hunt while watching their parents hunt. In humans, babies learn to speak by mimicking their parents' speech. What are your historical imprints and how is this affecting your life now? Sabreena is a whole systems thinker with deep experience in senior executive and organizational development. We start with passion and then move into the marketability of your products or services. Passion for the reluctant entrepreneur falls into place when your product can provide a solution for a problem no one knew they had or didn't know they could solve. A lot of successful well-known products aren't always the very first to market, it's being able to bring their own personality or their take on it and allowing people to view it in a new light. In this brilliantly insightful conversation, Animas Centre Director Robert Stephenson explores mentor coaching with coach, mentor, supervisor and author of ‘Mentor Coaching: A Practical Guide, Clare Norman, PCC. Clare shares the differences between mentor coaching and supervision for coaches and touches on some of the many benefits of mentor coaching to both coaches and their coaches. Clare explains the process of mentor coaching, what it is, and how it plays into the ICF core competencies. She also offers some examples of how a mentor coaching session might look and feel and shares some of the benefits that come from observed coaching and data-driven feedback against a benchmark set of competencies, including highlighting areas where we need to ‘unlearn' in order to become better at what we do. Clare also touches on how, as coaches, we will often create much more value by not actively trying to add value, or find that ‘aha' moment. She highlights that if we trust the process, trust ourselves as coaches, trust the client and that they're creative resourceful and whole, and if we as coaches can create that psychological safety, hold the space for them to do the thinking, and stay out of their way, something beautiful will emerge into the space.  You can find out more about Clare and her work here: https://www.clarenormancoachingassociates.com/ You can find her book ‘Mentor Coaching: A Practical Guide' at a discounted price here: https://www.mheducation.co.uk/mentor-coaching-a-practical-guide-9780335248797-emea-group We hope that you enjoyed this episode!
