曲目单: (04:05) 坂本慎太郎 - Dear Grandpa (07:03) Mitski - Where's My Phone? In a landmark trial in California, Meta and Google are being accused of addicting children to social media. On this week's On the Media, hear how the dramatic proceedings are playing out, and how measures to protect kids online can backfire. Plus, why are betting companies showing up in newsrooms?[01:00] Host Brooke Gladstone speaks with Madlin Mekelburg, a legal reporter at Bloomberg, about the landmark lawsuit against Google and Meta that went to trial this week. The social media giants are being accused of deliberately designing their platforms in a way that is addictive and harmful to children's brains, and the verdict of this case will influence the outcomes of thousands of similar cases across the country. Plus, neuroscience researcher Ian Anderson explains why the ‘addiction' framework misses the complexity of what social media does to our brains. [20:00] Brooke interviews Julia Angwin, investigative journalist and founder of Proof News, a nonprofit journalism studio. They discuss the tools that users can employ to protect themselves against doomscrolling, and how social media bans across the world can sometimes do more harm than good. [34:41] Host Micah Loewinger speaks with Judd Legum, the author of the accountability newsletter Popular Information, about the explosive rise of prediction markets, and the implications of their growing partnerships with newsrooms. The nominees for the BRIT Awards 2026 have been revealed and, in their signature chaotic fashion, Annie and Nick analyse the lists of names and ask: will Olivia Dean and Lola Young reign supreme? Could any moment rival Jarvis Cocker mooning Michael Jackson in 1996? And will Harry Styles perform his new music at the ceremony? Plus, Sidetracked favourite Jacob Alon has won the Critics' Choice Award – and Annie and Nick have big feelings about it. Elsewhere, the Japanese PM has gone viral for her heavy metal drumming – should more world leaders use music in meetings with their peers? And Mitski is back with a brilliant new single; Lily Allen has shared the best response to Brooklyn Beckham's explosive Instagram Stories statement, and Nick isn't sure about Heated Rivalry.Get in touch with Annie and Nick! Microsoft is updating Windows 11 File Explorer with preloading to improve launch speed, particularly on devices with limited processing power, and allowing users to disable this feature if desired. The context menu is being redesigned to reduce clutter by moving less-used actions into submenus and grouping common tasks in a new manage file flyout. Cloud file options, including Send to My Phone, are relocated to a dedicated section. These changes are in developer preview builds and are expected to roll out to all users in early 2026.Learn more on this news by visiting us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. For many of us, the word addiction quickly conjures up images of drugs and alcohol. But we're often slower to apply the term to compulsive, tech-induced behaviors like playing video games, checking social media, or shopping online. We prefer to think of these pleasure-seeking activities as harmless distractions. Yet they can just as easily lead to addictive behaviors. And with our ever-present smartphones, the chance of mindlessly engaging in these activities, to the point of addiction, are more likely than ever. That's why I wanted to talk to Anna Lembke, author of the book, Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence. Anna is a psychiatrist and Chief of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic at Stanford University. In this conversation, she uses patient stories to teach us about addiction. She also explains how our lifestyles encourage addictive behaviors. Finally, she shares insights on what we can do. I found her book to be revelatory and, as strange as this may sound, a real page turner. I also found it to be the resource we can all use to live more healthfully in a pleasure-filled world. Mollie of This EverGreen Home talks about breaking the dependency to her phone Episode 2700: Breaking the Dependency to My Phone by Mollie of This EverGreen Home Mike and Mollie met in college. They both arrived a week early for their freshman year at Messiah College for a grueling week of cross-country camp. Between logging endless miles on the trails and getting to know his teammates, Mike took a noticing to Mollie. It would be months before she truly noticed him. Well, at least in the way he hoped to be noticed by her. Over a decade later, they are now married with 3 wonderful offspring: Sophie, Leo, & Milo. Mollie enjoys all aspects of family life. She homeschools their oldest daughter and has a flourishing family photography business. She especially likes taking pictures of newborns. Mike has a career in digital marketing, enjoys playing softball, and loves to read. He likes to keep himself busy with a handful of side projects at any given time (currently working on Indoor Marketplace and Kairos University). But mostly, he's just a guy who loves his family and laughing with friends. While Mike & Mollie are serious about having fun and enjoying each day, their highest aim is to live a life filled with meaning and purpose. This blog follows their journey of living simply and intentionally in order to create more space for the things that matter most. If you're a faith-based entrepreneur or Christian business owner, then I know a big part of your mission is to serve others. That said, you probably already know how important it is to be functioning at your very best. Because the truth is, you must take care of YOU in order to continuously serve others' and for your business to thrive… If you don't, you may wind up on the train to burnout city. And I know you don't want that. If you're overwhelmed, not sticking to boundaries you set, or not taking care of yourself, it will show up in your business one way or another… Whether it be right off the bat, or later down the road. That said, in order to thrive in your online business and have the most lasting impact on your community and clients, setting boundaries in your business is CRUCIAL. I've found that when you do set these boundaries and you STICK with them (even when it's hard), you set yourself up for increased clarity, productivity and performance in your life and business. Listen in to learn three boundaries for you to implement in your business this year in order to avoid burnout, miscommunication, and even some resentment toward your business. In this episode, you can learn more about how to integrate these boundaries within your business regardless of what season you are in. Top Takeaways: Just because you're experiencing burnout doesn't mean you're not meant to move forward, but it does mean that something needs to change. We get into business so we can have the freedom to dictate our own schedule, but if we don't stick to the schedule we set for ourselves, then we wind up not having a business. You have to take your business seriously first for other people to take your business seriously. Do not sacrifice your non-negotiables in your personal life for the sake of growing a business. When you do that, you will start feeling resentful towards your business. What you will learn: How to set specific work hours and stick to them. It's easy when working for yourself to get distracted during the day and end up getting nothing done due to those distractions. Tips on setting boundaries on social media, ESPECIALLY if your business is based on social media. This is crucial to avoiding burnout. Applicable steps on how you set those social media boundaries (Hannah does this EXACT thing). What you can do to stop sacrificing non-negotiables in your personal life. How Hannah prioritizes her non-negotiables in order to focus on the things that matter the most in her life (and how you can too)! We had a tough time settling on the exact wording for this theme. Personally, we think that has a lot to do with the fact that, as babies of the late '80s, the members of our podcast team have listened to music via many different means. When compared to tape decks, Walkmans (Walkmen?), CD drives, and record players, there's something about the idea of phones as primary sources of media that's still a little strange. On the other hand, one convenience offered at this audio technology juncture is the ease with which we can learn about our listening habits. From rhapsodies we use to wind down to commuter karaoke favorites, the latest episode of our podcast addresses tracks that fit the theme, "The Most Played Song on My Phone." For this discussion, Carter and Mahea were delighted to be joined by singer, songwriter, and music consultant, Dominique Marie.Check out all of our courses including Kimbra: Vocal Creativity, Arranging, & Production, here.Subscribe to all of our courses here and use the discount code PODCAST to take 20% off!Sign up to work one-on-one with one of our incredible mentors here.Listen to this episodes playlist here!Have questions or comments? Ashley and Kimberly take a hard look in the mirror and answer some tough questions honestly about how much time they spend on screens and how much time they allow their kids to be on screens. We touch on how many screens we have in our home, the rules we have, if any, around screen time usage, and whether or not we think we have healthy relationships with screen time. We also dive into how much time we spend on social media versus what we allow our children to watch on screens.References:The Social Dilemma: Social Media and Your Mental HealthPower Down: 4 Ways to Fight Digital BurnoutWhat Made Maddy RunI'm Addicted to My Phone.
