In this episode, we look at the beginning of Daniel's Martial Art Journey when Mr. Myagi talked to him about Commitment in the Karate Kid using the "grape" analogy. We examine finishing a job for our work task and using martial arts as a system of body functioning improvement. We talked about the importance of stretching and using the whole body in our martial art techniques. Lastly, we talked about Full Commitment Attitude and being present both in classes and in your workouts at home.

This week on the podcast, Joel Madden is joined by hardcore rappers Nascar Aloe and Myagi, the founder/curator behind the artist collective/record label DEATHPROOF INC. After releasing his signature punk-inspired music on Soundcloud several years ago, Nascar Aloe made a name for himself in the underground rap scenes in Charlotte, North Carolina and LA, and developed a devout fanbase, drawn to his arresting sound, style, and energy. Most recently, the rapper dropped the single "BLXXDY NXSE" with Jasiah and Scarlxrd, but last year saw the release of his album AMERICAN WASTELAND on DEATHPROOF INC. — making his interview along with Myagi, a longtime collaborator, the perfect pairing. Together, they talk about their creative relationship, Nascar Aloe's early days in the industry, rapping about contemporary issues, and more. Learn more about your ad choices. He tried the sampler pack that includes Space Coaster, Haunted, Pirate Life, and Extraterrestrial. They're a unique and pleasant candle that both guys recommend. Shua checked out a very well done stop motion animation movie on Netflix called Wendell and Wild by Jordan Peele and Henry Selick. A spooky and dark (not to mention fun) movie that features demons, zombies, and redemption. Plus, one of the crew members was friend of the show Hunter Wahl who was one of the talented puppet painters on the crew. Check it out on Netflix. Sci-Fi Saturdays/MCU Location Scout Sci-Fi Saturdays is back with a look at a fun romp in space with Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, and Chris Tucker. Written and directed by Luc Besson, it has gained a large following over the years with it's beautiful design and fun action story. Check it out on RetroZap.com Enjoy Music! Weird Al Yankovic got his start at an early age when his mom bought him an accordion from a door-to-door salesman. With that and his passion for the Dr. Demento show, his creativity began to thrive with parodies of other songs. His crazy, unique style began to grow in popularity with repeated playings of his early songs like My Bologna and I Love Rocky Road on Dr. Demento, and soon he had a record deal. That led to several other albums, videos, cameos in movies, and even a movie of his own. He is only one of five artists that have had a Top 40 single in each of the last four decades. Lin-Manuel Miranda has said he was an influence on writing Hamilton. His crazy, fun work has truly made a unique difference in our culture. The new biopic called Weird: The Al Yankovic story is out now, starring Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al. A wild (and totally “accurate”) account of Al's life and rise to fame. Featuring Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna and Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento, it's the perfect example of Al's work. Do you like Weird Al? What are some of your favorite songs? Wake the Faith up Slayer… This is Garth Heckman with the David Alliance and you can reach me at TDAgiantslayer@gmail.com Brought to you by wellbuiltbody.com Gym Apparel for men and women that rocks and shocks and ain't for everybody - but just might be for you. wellbuiltbody.com Some of the most famous words in all of comic book lore are those of the Hulk. Don't make me angry… you wouldn't like me when Im angry… Or maybe, just maybe we might like you more… What do you do when you are damned? I don't mean damned and going to hell… Yes we are all born sinners and heading to hell unless we reach out for Gods forgiveness and relationship… but I am talking about when we have all these emotions bubbling up and we want to lash out or explode. We have all been treated unfairly to some degree. Someone judges us unfairly, someone speaks lies about us or even someone maligns our character so they get the raise and the new promotion, or look like the better parent. What do you do with those emotions? Arthur Ashe one of the greatest tennis players to walk the face of the earth stood out not only because he was a monster on the court, but also because he was a young black man playing as early as the 1960's. He paved the way for many other players of color… and it wasn't easy… there were lots of inequalities, lots of bogus calls, lots of favoritism and a good share of racist banter behind doors… many times on part by other white players working against Arthur. But he did not respond, he did not blow up, he did not rant and rave much unlike many of his white counter parts. He couldn't… not only that he knew it would only work harder against him… Could you imagine as he climbed up the ranks entering the pro's in 1969 if he threw tantrums like John McEnroe? What it would cost him and what it would cost other players of color in the future? so what did he do? We will get there in a minute… In Karate Kid 2 Daniel sees a poster of Mr. Myagi's nemesis breaking a log in half with a karate chop. He asks Mr. Myagi if he could do that… he responded “I don't know, I never been attacked by a tree”. What is he saying in reality… there are better ways to spend ones energy. Eph. 4:26,27 26“Be angry, yet do not sin.” Do not let the sun set upon your anger, 27and do not give the devil a foothold. Notice it does not say DON'T BE ANGRY…. That seems weird right? Shouldn't the bible say no to anger? Well we know God got angry. Jesus flipped tables in the temple. Jesus reprimanded the Pharisees with some pretty strong language and even called them out.. saying do not pray like these hypocrites. Interesting thing about this word Angry - be provoked, be moved to action But it has 2 outcomes. Scripture says when we are provoked by anger to act in the flesh it is sin. But if we are provoked in anger to act in the spirit we are in line with God. v. 27 This is what verse 27 says, do not give the devil a foothold. on your anger. Foothold is an opportunity… for satan. so you take that opportunity that is there due to anger and you use it in a Godly way. How can you pour that energy/anger/passion into a better version of yourself. Or into a Godly product or passion? Arthur Ash took his anger and used it to play each match like it was a ballet but he danced like he was on fire… he played a hard game with a soft heart. He let it fuel him to prove his haters wrong… Did you catch that? He didn't hate back, he just simply used it to prove to those who hated him that he deserved to be there, to be that man, to be that good and in fact to be that great. Are you feeling a little angry? Ask God how he wants to use it in order to make him look good… you might be surprised just how good it feels to be angry.

A TRAINER is a person uniquely qualified through actual experience to coach others. Think of Rocky's trainer Mickey, Daniel San's trainer Mr. Myagi, and Vince Lombardi. They coached on screen, and real life champions to reach past their “Great White” fears and attain something greater than anyone thought possible. How did they do it? TRAINERS know how to prepare others to take ACTION, and develop them into, TRUE WARRIORS OF LIFE in endeavors ranging from pro-football stars, and top sales professionals, to playing1st chair violin in the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra! Where ACTION removes FEAR, TRAINERS know the ACTIONS to take that actually develop normal people into superstars! Back to sharks. Since the writing of this last episode my free diving, shark loving son went on another dive in Hawaii. This time, under the guidance of his Dive Master, was told all the little sharks that were swimming away from them because they knew there was a larger predator approaching… Most people would take this as a cue to exit the deep blue water immediately. However, his Dive Master/ TRAINER said they'd be fine and it was probably only a tiger shark, like the one the movie “Soul Surfer” was based on. You know, the one where the surfer girl gets her arm bitten off by a tiger shark? Sure enough, within a short while there she was, They called her “Roxy” and she was easily 12' in length. The TRAINER said to face her and push her on the nose if she got too close. How did he know to give that TRAINING tip? He is a TRAINER! TRAINERS have seen enough, experienced enough, and failed enough to know what's coming and how to deal with it. Their legendary vision is the thing that creates champions. Consider when you are faced with your “Great Whites” and the “Moment of Consideration,” whether it's free diving in Maui or grappling class, to ACT and take that step, make that call, or step up on stage, and if you can't, getting a TRAINER might be your first ACTION to eliminate fear, and succeed in every endeavor of life… #lifedefense #themomentofconsideration #allenhughes --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/allen-hughes/message
Shrenik Shah has been described as the ‘Yoda' and ‘Mr Myagi' of cancer. At the age of 44 he was working in marketing to support his family, when he started to get unwell, he lost weight, began to lose his voice and after about six months of deterioration he decided to go to the Doctor. The diagnosis was stage four vocal cord cancer, and he was given an ultimatum by a cancer surgeon … lose your voice or lose your life. When he heard this he felt like his world was crashing down around him, but he trusted the surgeon and clung to hope. It was 26 years ago this week that Shrenik beat stage four vocal cord cancer, and although he lost the physical ability to speak, he was determined not to lose his voice. He felt compelled to share his story, so that others with and without cancer around the world could be inspired to find the courage to keep fighting for what they want. His work has benefited so many people in the field of laryngeal cancer and has motivated all the laryngectomees across the globe to never give up. Cancer has destroyed Shrenik's body. The treatment had a profound effect on his health. But it couldn't touch his will to win. I hope you enjoy his story. What you'll discover: How Shrenik remains so cheerful The story of his cancer journey and how he found his voice. How he made the mindset shift to beat the odds. If you liked last week's episode where we talked about this "so let's talk about ransomware" series on reddit, you'll love this week. We have the author, Snorkel42, to talk about the origins behind the security cadence series, and why he decided to finally write some on ransomware. (He explains that everything he talks about his ransomware, but he admits he's been "Mr. Myagi'ing" it for a while.). This guy knows his stuff, and this is the second time he has been on the podcast. He's knowledgeable and entertaining. One of those rare combinations. This is a great episode you will not want to miss. Damsel in distress, journey of the reluctant hero, one last job, vengeance, coming of age, saving the planet from destruction. There are no shortage of film tropes throughout all decades, but the 80s had something special. A cliché, a story, a trope that just felt like the manifestation of acid washed jeans, Hi-C Ecto Cooler, and Ronal Reagan. Today on Buzzn The Tower we list our favorite 80s movie tropes. Clichés that appeared in abundance and worked each and every time. I'm Mo Shapiro and joining me as always the Daniel LaRusso, Luke Skywalker, Frank Dux to my Mr. Myagi, Yoda, Tanaka, Max Sanders. And with that, let's talk about 80s movie tropes!

In this episode, Shai and Roderick dive deep into 1984's The Karate Kid. They specifically focus on how the character of Mr. Myagi allegedly immigrated from Japan to the U.S. during the 1940s. The Immigration and Nationality principles they will explore include Japanese U.S. Immigration history, the Immigration Act of 1924, the Immigration and Nationality Acts of 1952 and 1965, and Japanese internment camps during World War II. Plus, Shai and Roderick debate whether or not The Karate Kid movie sequels, re-make, and the television show spin-off, Cobra Kai, are any good.

The sound cuts out on this right before I launch into a banger riff on how Mr Myagi is racist but it's not a big deal because the racism doesn't hurt anybody. When we were recording on Zencastr, my track stopped recording for about 10 minutes and never synched back up with Colin. I'm very disappointed because it was an interesting conversation that took a lot of directions I didn't expect and I like the audio editing I did on the rest of the track. Anyway, we talk about "The Karate Kid" on this one. Colin thinks Ally Sheedy was 30 in "The Breakfast Club" but Adam sweeps his leg with a google search.
Ike Ubasineke is the Mr. Myagi of Leadership—and got some GOLD to drop on this one. Seriously, this one is maybe our most practical and actionable podcast yet. Ike gives a ton of useful tips and stories about leading courageously, straight from somebody who is practicing it every day. Listen close, grasshopper.
Wax on, Wax off! Have you seen the "Cobra Kai" series on Netflix? I talk a little about the reboot of the classic movie The Karate Kid (1984) and my son's black belt, but my guest for this episode is a real-life martial arts sensei who also happened to be my former news director - part of his 41 years in journalism, mostly TV. Make sure to Subscribe to the Run The Race podcast to hear inspiring stories and sound advice like his on fitness and faith. (6:28) Mark McGee, who grew up in church, is the co-founder and senior instructor for Grace Martial Arts, a pastor and Bible teacher too with multiple black belts who has taught Karate, Tai Chi and other disciplines for 5 decades. In his 70s now, (7:08) we discuss in-depth about Mark's transition from Buddhism and atheism back to Christianity. That faith journey took a turn when he was bullied and discovered karate at a YMCA, leading him to a Buddhist sensei then to an anti-Christian college professor that prompted him to become an atheist. His radio career (11:18) started with a Gospel and religion station. Mark talks about how he challenged God, mocked Christians on air, but one interviewee turned his life around with the use of science and evidence for God and the Bible. (18:12) We dive into the "Fast Four," learning about Mark, a husband and grandfather, what he does daily to stay fit, living by the motto "Loved by God, Saved by Grace, Blessed beyond Measure." (20:45) What is Tai Chi? Mark describes how the slow movements of this 1,000-year-old Chinese "grand ultimate fist" method can help you prevent injuries at any age. As an objective journalist for 4 decades with daily adventures, (25:15) he gives his take on the Media today, the rules of journalism, and how he was able to be accurate and fair with stories while also sharing his Christian faith with co-workers in TV. (31:25) There are misconceptions about martial arts, he says. Is it about fighting? Mark talks about how the art can help you be situationally aware and deescalate conflict in any part of life, including controlling your emotions and healing marriages. There's Cobra Kai strike first no mercy vs. Mr. Myagi balance mindset. (38:05) Mark details how we can respond to aggression anytime, with something called yield and clear - with your spouse, child, employer, anyone. Anger and bitterness can destroy. (42:39) He also gives some ingredients for a successful marriage, since he's been with his wife for 50 years. That includes Tai Chi's lessons of "blending." (46:11) Mark, who started Grace Life Ministries and Grace Martial Arts, gives our closing prayer for the episode. (49:19) My "Food for Thought" and "Parting Gift" inspiration has a mix of Joe Rogan kicking, mixing martial arts with Christianity, Mr. Myagi wisdom, and the Karate Kid film displaying how muscle memory and breathing can help us face challenges, crisis. Thanks for listening! Please share this with your friends using #RunTheRacePodcast. Also, write a quick review about it on Apple. For more info, go to www.wtvm.com/podcast/.
Moose introduces this Shortie’s topic: the lies our parents told us. Will a watermelon grow in your stomach if you swallow the seeds? Lots of lies have been told to children about Santa and sex. And why are penis nicknames necessary? Email us at hello@katandmoosepodcast.com and tell us why! It’s nostalgic (or is it traumatic?) to revisit Shagnasty from the end of Episode 6 (if you haven’t heard this bit, you need to). But there are sweet lies, like the magic bean and the trampoline. Santa is real according to the Polar Express. Moose attacks her father like Mr. Miyagi in his Halloween house. Producer Sara educates us about The US Navy SEAL Team. In this episode, I connect the dots from Losing My Faith Part 2 to where I am currently with my life and faith. I talk about 4 people who have become influential in my journey. I discuss finding my Mr. Myagi and the Human Rights' Commission that caused a fire storm in my hometown. These two events became turning points as I began the process of deconstruction and reconstruction.
Jean 'JP' Parker, VP of Partnerships for Myagi is joined by returning guest Andrew Busby to discuss the key themes from NRF 2018 Retail's Big Show. "Breakfast of Champions has been my favorite event to DJ in San Francisco since the first year I was invited to play 4 years ago. I still remember playing Fatboy Slim's 'Talkin' Bout My Baby (under the big bright yellow sun)' to start my set downstairs at Whisper. I was really excited to bring out my favorite new tunes along with a couple from earlier in the year and a first for me in getting to play Myagi's 'Viper' which Rumblemunk and I remixed. I'm really happy with the tracks I played. Some filthy tunes in there for you to enjoy." - Deckard Saturday, January 21st join The Space Cowboys at The End Up in San Francisco for The Show. Space Cowboys parties are always pretty special for me - maybe its partly that I can call a chunk of the crew good friends, maybe its that the events only attract the absolute creme de la creme of deviant partiers, probably both. There is something really fun about seeing the love that goes into these events and then getting to take part in whatever fashion I can - this was my first Ghost Ship and I certainly hope it won't be my last. I was unfit to travel in august and so I missed burning man this year - a fact that really left me bummed out. Getting a chance to see some of the pieces from the Burn on Treasure Island was a real gift - I was overjoyed to see CHARON and the Dust City Diner, and the Mog sounded better than ever - certainly it was no week in the desert but it was great to feel an attachment to that experience for an evening and hear some stories and battle tales from the playa. It was a great night all round and I had a pretty epic set - I hope you like it. As per usual the majority of it is original music, and I've got to say, a big chunk of it was influenced by my times in San Francisco over the last few years. I love the bay and it's the only city I've found that feels like home even though I've never lived there - mainly thanks to the people and the crews that help make the nightlife there as vibrant and exciting as it is. Thanks to Andrea and all the Cowboys for putting on Ghost Ship - that was a blast. - Myagi For more information on Myagi visit www.myagimusic.com Photo courtesy of http://vitamindevo.com
Ready to Unload: with Cal and Sanpete - #11-24 The RTU Boys talked to a passionate Mike Hubie about the farce that is College football, the U, and how the punishment should fit the crime. Then they welcomed in Phil Soto-Ortiz from http://newyorksportsembassy.blogspot.com for some great Yankee and NY Giant talk, and capped the night with an RTU: Funload where Sanpete took issue with Myagi and DanielSan's preperation for the All Valley Tournament in the Karate Kid, and Cal wondered aloud if we should calm down with Curb Your Enthusiasm.
