"Dare to Re-Sequence: Making Dare to Be Stupid Make Sense" This week, Lauren and Russ take their marriage to the next level and take on a noble Weird Al challenge: rearranging the tracklist of Dare to Be Stupid into an order that (dare we say it?) makes more sense. We each came up with our own new sequence for the album, and we're diving deep into the why behind our choices. Does “Like a Surgeon” really need to be Track 1? Should “One More Minute” hit earlier or later? We've got opinions—and so will you.We also have links to both of our resequenced versions so you can listen along and decide which one reigns supreme. So put on your accordion hat and let's get stupid… in a very deliberate way.Dare to be Lauren (Lauren's)Dare to Re-Sequence (Russ's)Beer'd Al is a stupid member of the OddPods Media Network.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/beer-d-al-podcast--5439475/support.
Polka time, baby! Lauren is joined by Russ and the newly-appointed "Polka Bob" to dive into the accordion-fueled madness of "Hooked on Polkas," the high-energy album closer from Dare to Be Stupid. We break down Weird Al's brilliant medley choices, discuss what makes polka so undeniably fun, and celebrate the joy of accordion-fueled chaos. Is this the ultimate party anthem? Does "Hooked on Polkas" still hold up today? And just how does one become a certified "Polka Bob"? Tune in for laughs, deep dives, and—of course—some serious polka appreciation!Beer'd Al is a polka-riffic member of the OddPods Media Network.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/beer-d-al-podcast--5439475/support.

Grab a snack and get ready for a fun and fascinating deep dive! In this episode we're serving up a hearty discussion on Weird Al's Dare to Be Stupid classic, "Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch." Joining me at the table is author and musicologist Lily Hirsch, and together, we unpack the humor, the history, and the gendered music themes behind this quirky parody. Was Al truly hungry for satire, or was he just forced to take a bite? We're crash-landing back into regular podcasting with the Max original animated series Scavengers Reign. This week, the Idiots jump right in by tackling the big issue of the day: Halloween Costumes. Schitt's Creek actress Emily Hampshire issued an apology for dressing up with a friend as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Why did she apologize? No one knows, but she did, and the world is a worse place for her capitulation to the angry mob of losers who took offense with her costume. Following that, it's time to dive into the Israel-Hamas war. Jake tells personal stories from his time in the Army. Having spent time in Afghanistan, he has a little more experience with combat than most keyboard warriors. We ask if Israel is losing the moral high ground they've held for so long, and how they can correct their backtracking. Also: if you're not turning to two comedians for your information on the conflict, you know who you should probably listen to? A twenty-nine year old Latina actress. That's right, Selena Gomez has thoughts on the war, and the same people who were offended by Emily Hampshire's costume gave it to Gomez with both barrels on full blast. From there, the discussion turns to money. Awful human being Josh Hawley got into it with horrible human being Mitch McConnell, because Hawley (of all people) wants to legislate Citizens United out of existence. Unfortunately, politicians love money, and Republicans were warned not to back the bill. Also on the money side of things, the Raiders are paying an obscene amount of it in order to have both Josh McDaniels and Jon Gruden NOT coach football for them, and if you're a friend of Ron DeSantis, you can get paid well to be stupid. Apparently where “Go Woke, Go Broke” is a thing, the opposite is true: “Be Stupid, Get Paid.” And finally, a little something about the cult Kelly Johnson, wife of new Speaker Mike Johnson, is in. Religion: is there anything wackier? Idiots on Parade: we mock the news, so you don't have to. Tune in and get your giggle on. Find Jake at @jakevevera Find nathan at nathantimmel.com

Alfred Matthew Yankovic, Born October 23, 1959, in Downey, California, the only child of Mary Elizabeth (née Vivalda) and Nick Yankovic. Weird Al rose to international, NO, Intergalactic stardom with his weird brand of pop/rock music. And we LOVE him for it. Hot on the heels of the release of "WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story" on Roku, I'm sitting down with a guest who has seen Weird Al 29 times! AND wrote a book about him. I've invited the author of “Weird Me”, the book that follows a moderately successful webmaster of a "Weird Al" Yankovic fan site. From minor notoriety to jet-setting for concerts, to earning a stalker, Weird Me showcases the awkward (and true) intricacies of an adolescence spent carving out a corner of the internet frontier in dedication to the king of parody. Weird Al Yankovic got his start at an early age when his mom bought him an accordion from a door-to-door salesman. With that and his passion for the Dr. Demento show, his creativity began to thrive with parodies of other songs. His crazy, unique style began to grow in popularity with repeated playings of his early songs like My Bologna and I Love Rocky Road on Dr. Demento, and soon he had a record deal. That led to several other albums, videos, cameos in movies, and even a movie of his own. He is only one of five artists that have had a Top 40 single in each of the last four decades. Lin-Manuel Miranda has said he was an influence on writing Hamilton. His crazy, fun work has truly made a unique difference in our culture. Music comes in all kinds of forms and some of them are funny as well as pleasing to the ear. In my opinion, that perfectly describes "Weird Al" Yankovic's 1985 classic, Dare to Be Stupid. Joining me to dissect this excellent slice of mid-80s pop culture is Lauren Carey from the outstanding Beer'd Al Podcast. Lauren and her brother combined their two favorite things, craft beer and the music of Weird Al, to create a unique and entertaining show. In addition to discussing Dare to Be Stupid, we talk about the origin of the Beer'd Al Podcast, where her love of Weird Al began, and more. And look for me on the next episode of Lauren's show as well, as we take a different angle and rank our songs from the album, countdown style. Pursuing your creative passion involves a certain amount of awkwardness, since you'll need time to develop yourself as a creator. But then when it comes time for the question of whether to share your creation with the world, that brings a new set of fears: of being laughed at, or rejected, or ignored. It can take a lot of courage to share your passion with others, but the possibility of finding your audience outweighs the risk of looking foolish. In the second part of my conversation with Adam Robinson, we discuss the work and research he did for his book How Not to Be Stupid, and what the dynamics of stupidity are in today's world. This is a timely discussion because by the measure of Adam's criteria of stupidity, we're in the danger zone now. Adam shares why we need to be cautious when we find ourselves in the stupid zone, and how the stupid zone creates behavioral blind spots that make us more susceptible to disaster. What makes the stupid zone even more perilous is that it not only makes us blind to crucial information, we're not even aware that we're blind. In the stupid zone, we need to proceed slowly and with caution. Unfortunately, much of our society isn't proceeding with caution, making everything even worse. Adam shares what action, if any, we can take in the stupid zone. We also discussed; The true definition of stupidity and why intelligent people can still be in the stupid zone. How authority and group dynamics play into stupidity. Why rushing amplifies stupidity in these times. Standout USF Softball pitcher Georgina Corrick takes a few minutes out of her Monday to join Ian and Jay after tossing a no-hitter against North Dakota on Saturday! Georgina was very happy to doing the interview with the guys because it got her out of shagging flies! Georgina also talks about the "Don't Be Stupid" rule the team has to prevent a Covid spread. She was named AAC pitcher of the week after striking out 13 in her no-hitter, and Jay was the one to deliver that news to her, though she accepts it as a team award! Georgina also talks about the challenge of going up against the US Olympic Softball Team and definitely learned by watching one of the greatest, Cat Osterman! All that and MORE!

[GROUP PICK] "You got the touch... You got the power!!!!... YEAH!...." The year is 1986, the golden age of inspirational movie montage music, and a little television show/toy line for children was about to grow the fuck up. After two seasons and a couple of successful lines of toys, Hasbro and Marvel were ready to take "The Transformers" to the silver screen, and they pulled off quite the project. With "The Transformers: The Movie," they brought in some huge talent, such as Leonard Nemoy, Eric Idle, Casey Kasem, Judd Nelson, and Orson Welles to name a few, and wrote a gritty space opera that was somewhere between "Heavy Metal" and "Star Wars..." ...oh, that, and a badass hair metal/synth wave electronic powerhouse soundtrack! Every track just drips with pure 80s sound, with Stan Bush on the power ballads, NRG (later known as Damn Cheetah) & Spectre General lending some heavy hitting metal tunes, and Lion creating possibly the best recreation of a children's cartoon theme ever. Even the brooding synth score, done by Vince DiCola is dynamic and emotional, and gives the movie more gravitas than you would expect for one based on children's toys. However, even with all that and the inclusion of Weird Al Yankovic's much revered classic "Dare to Be Stupid," "The Transformers: The Movie" was a box office failure, making not even $2 million opening weekend, and caused Hasbro to rethink their involvement in future big screen releases (also, weirdly, it was Orson Welles' last film). It has stood the test of time though, becoming a cult classic for it's gritty approach to storytelling along with it's epic music montages that keep you locked in from start to finish... So grab a bowl of cereal, dust off your VHS player, and join us for the peak of the Saturday Morning Cartoon experience with "The Transformers: The Movie" the Soundtrack... with Brad, Jon, Transformer's expert (as well as Brad's older brother) Scott, and Alex & Griffin, members of local cow punk band, Wood Chickens! When Jesus began His earthly ministry, His initial message was the same as John the Baptist. He said, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matt. 4:17). And throughout the next three years, one underlying theme in His teaching was about life in His Kingdom. When Jesus sent out His disciples to preach His message, He said, "As you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand' " (Matt. 8:11). Jesus even told those close to Him why He spoke to the crowds in parables. And His answer had to do with concealing from some the knowledge of the kingdom of heaven. He said, "Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given" (Matt. 13:11). Finally, He shared parables specifically pointed to revealing what the kingdom of heaven, His Kingdom, was like. He said it was like a "man who sowed good seed in his field" (Matt. 13:24). Or, it was like a "mustard seed" which, being small, grew into a tree "so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches" (Matt. 13:31). Jesus likened His Kingdom to "leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened" (Matt. 13:33). And to express how wonderful His Kingdom is for those who possess it, He said it was like a "treasure hidden in a field" (Matt. 13:44) or a "pearl of great price" (Matt. 13:46) that was worth all one had on earth. Jesus then asked His disciples, "Have you understood all these things?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord" (Matt. 13:51). I wonder what our answer would be today? Do we understand His Kingdom? Do we fully know what it means to follow Him? Can we honestly say we are proficient in following Jesus? I'm not so sure. And maybe you aren't either. What Life is Like in the Kingdom Let's just take a flyover view of the first few chapters in Matthew and see if we can determine some principles and instructions for what it means to live in the kingdom of heaven. And then compare them to what we teach in church today, and I think you'll be as shocked as I was. Blessed… or Not So Blessed - Matthew 5:3-12 Self Identity - Matthew 5:13-16 His Standard of Righteousness - Matthew 5:20 Anger - Matthew 5:21-26 Lust and/or Sexual Sin - Matthew 5:27-30 Marital Relationships - Matthew 5:31-32 Oaths and Dishonesty - Matthew 5:33-37 How to Respond to Evil - Matthew 5:38-42 How to Respond to Haters - Matthew 5:43-47 Be Perfect - Matthew 5:48 Self-Promotion - Matthew 6:1-4 How to Pray - Matthew 6:5-13 How Much Forgiveness? - Matthew 6:14-15 Fasting and Other Disciplines - Matthew 6:16-17 Our Life Focus - Matthew 6:19-21 Everyone Serves Somebody or Something - Matthew 6:24 Worry, Doubt, and Fear - Matthew 6:25-34 I’m Right and You’re Wrong - Matthew 7:1-2 I’m Good and You’re Bad - Matthew 7:3-6 What is a Life of Faith - Matthew 7:7-11 Treat Others Like You Treat Yourself - Matthew 7:12 Turnstile or Interstate - Matthew 7:13-14 Fruit Inspector - Matthew 7:15-20 Doing and Not Just Talking - Matthew 7:21-23 Don’t Be Stupid! - Matthew 7:24-27 Minister Within Your Reach - Matthew 8:1-17 Everything Costs Something - Matthew 8:18-22 And so much more! Remember, following Christ means to forget everything we think we know about everything but Him, and simply trust in child-like faith. Our entire reality now changes, as citizens in His Kingdom, to something incredible and supernatural. Do you want to learn more about what it means to follow Jesus? If so, then keep listening. The following is a study on What it Means to Follow Jesus.

Amee Miller commissioned Transformers the Movie as a Christmas present for her beloved husband Jason. Featuring the voice talents of Leonard Nimoy, Orsen Wells, Petter Cullen, and Scatman Crothers, the movie certainly lives up to it's billing as "beyond your wildest imagination." For example, I'd never imagine an underwater chase scene involving muscle cars, mentally challenged dinosaur robots leading a populist revolt against injustice, a microscope being used as a telescope, or Weird Al Yankovic's "Dare to Be Stupid" being used in an all-robot dance number. Maybe my imagination is broken or something. Anyway, hope you enjoyed your first Christmas present, Jason! Thanks to Amee for commissioning it, and a very Merry Christmas to you both. https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Wisdom-Trek2800.jpg () Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 373 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Don’t Be Stupid – Proverbs 12:1-16 Thank you for joining us for our 3 days per week, 12 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 373 of our trek, and today is Wisdom Wednesday. Every Wednesday on our trek, we will dig for the nuggets of wisdom found in the book of Proverbs. Today we will explore the first part of chapter 12. https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/wisdom-wednesday-L-CoEkDa.jpeg () We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. As I continue to work in and around The Big House, Paula headed south to Charlotte for a few days to collect the mail, meet with her quilting group, and take her mom to a doctor's appointment. She should head back to Marietta on Friday if all goes according to plan. I have finished sanding the upstairs and downstairs hallways and both flights of stairs. I am working on cleaning up the dust and getting ready to start applying polyurethane to the woodwork and floors. We continue on our trek of life, one day at a time. As we head up Wisdom's trail today, let's start digging for those nuggets that, if applied to your life, will truly make you healthy, wealthy, and wise. We will explore Proverbs 12:1-16 today, and the title of this trek is: Don't Be Stupid One thing that I really like about the wisdom nuggets in Proverbs is the compare and contrast element of most verses. Solomon does not mince words in most of the passages, so it is easy to understand and apply to our lives. So let's start right in with verse 1. 1 To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction. One area that I don't think is taught well at home or in school is that if you desire to learn, it is required that we integrate discipline into our daily lives. In fact, we should love that discipline. Most of us would not describe discipline as something that we love, but just as love for another person is a choice, we must choose to love discipline if we desire to learn. If we instead hate discipline and correction, then we will be considered stupid. There is little difference between someone who cannot learn and someone who will not learn. https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/tumblr_nkpa28YoD31s91yx0o1_1280.jpg () 2 The Lord approves of those who are good, but he condemns those who plan wickedness. We all like approval of others, and it is even more crucial that we are approved by God. If we live according to His Word and precepts, then we will have that approval. In contrast, those who habitually plan wicked deeds will not have the same approval from God. 3 Wickedness never brings stability, but the godly have deep roots. A life that that is lived contrary to God's Word will be shallow and have no substance to it. This is a foolish person who builds his house on sand. A life that is grounded in God's Word will have deep roots and a solid foundation, just like a person who builds his house on solid rock. 4 A worthy wife is a crown for her husband, but a disgraceful woman is like cancer in his bones. Speaking from my own experience of having a worthy wife, I can certainly agree with this proverb. Paula is a shining crown in my life. On the other hand, I have seen marriages where a nagging and complaining wife eats at the core of her husband. Of course, an unloving husband will also be cancer to his wife. 5 The plans of the godly are just; the advice of the wicked is treacherous. When you are able to obtain counsel from those who have high moral integrity you will know that their advice and plans will be fair, both to you and the person giving advice. This is not true of a selfish, proud, and wicked person. Beware of accepting their advice, or you will be tricked by their schemes. 6 The words...
We Hope to Make You Understand the Value of Those Sharks. Please Understand. Once again, it's 80s Night here at Nintendo Free Radio (settle in, folks...we're old. We're contractually obligated to do this every once in a while), and we're back to bring you the latest outdated gaming coverage in the industry. Donald kicks off New Business with Atlus' latest foray into Digital Devil madness with Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, a 3DS port of an obscure Sega Saturn game...AND IT'S OUT RIGHT NOW! After conquering Mario's latest 3D Land, the group briefly discusses their impressions of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. (Let us pause for a moment of silence in honor of the Twinkies analogy Hostess' demise now denies us.) Afterwards, reinforcements have arrived, as Stephen fires up the Ion Canon and spins-up an old 1st person shooter classic (?): Command & Conquer: Renegade. Meanwhile, Austen readies his laser bow and 20-sided die for a neon-lit journey through Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Does it have The Touch, or would you Dare to Be Stupid for playing it? Finally, Austen asks "What DO you do with a Druken Whaler?" with his Dishonored replay (+ Knife of Dunwall DLC), with perhaps a Kameo from his Xbox 360 as well. After the latest sojourn into the 7th & 8th Circles of the NWR Forums with Now Posted, Whatcha Watchin' returns with a look at Donald's financial problems in Trading Places. Afterwards, Stephen decides to also kick-it old school with Naked Gun 33 1/3, as well as a round of the best game show Austen's never heard of: Let's Ask America. Finally, Austen closes the feature out with a look at Siffy's (SyFy to those of you who don't care about spelling) new Science Fiction drama Defiance. After beholding the horror that is Teen Titans Go, we then initiate the Ghost Protocol (Mission Impossible 4). Once again, the Feature Discussion doesn't have a full subject, but the Lightning Round seemed to get a charge out of you last time, so we figured we'd Electrify your Boogaloo. Topics for discussion include the Fate of E3, the Fall of LucasArts, our New Japanese Overlord, and hilariously inaccurate (in retrospect) predictions for the Microsoft Xbox One Unveiling 2 weeks ago. As always, the show wraps-up with The Mushrooms, featuring Canada's Public Enemy #1; Multiplayer Woes; and A Crack in the Tradition of Terrible Video Game Movies. We'd love to hear some feedback (even if you apparently don't), so don't be afraid to send us an email at nintendofreeradio@gmail.com or leave a comment on the Talkback! This week I talk with the awesome Mike Phirman about Weird Al's “Dare to Be Stupid.” We had a grand old time talking about the great Mr. Yankovic and about Mike's own great comedy music. Listen and enjoy. Mike's Website … Continue reading →
Jonny and Amanda team up once more to celebrate the gloriously absurd music of Weird Al Yankovic. This show is a listener request, and Rob made the wonderful suggestion of focusing on Weird Al's original songs (i.e. not direct parodies). His selections are some of the funniest, most timeless pieces ever produced by Yankovic. As a happy coincidence, this music also turns out to be a lovely companion to Amanda's choice from a few episodes ago, Ween. Both artists explore a huge breadth of musical styles to present funny, intelligent material. Here's the set list: 1. Dare to Be Stupid (Dare to Be Stupid) 2. One More Minute (Dare to Be Stupid) 3. You Don't Love Me (Off the Deep End) 4. Trigger Happy (Off the Deep End) 5. Pancreas (Straight Outta Lynwood) 6. Everything You Know is Wrong (Bad Hair Day) 7. Since You've Been Gone (Bad Hair Day) 8. Your Horoscope for Today (Running With Scissors) 9. Truck Drivin' Song (Running With Scissors) 10. Hardware Store (Poodle Hat) 11. Bob (Poodle Hat) 12. Close But No Cigar (Straight Outta Lynwood) 13. CNR (Alpocalypse) Encore: Weird Al - Angry White Boy Polka Medley (Poodle Hat) Please send us your questions, comments, and requests to crosstawk@gmail.com and follow us on Twitter: @crosstawk, @jonnymetts, and @supinternets.
