Meet Danielle Sarik, a dedicated pediatric nurse scientist who is committed to improving the lives of our most vulnerable population. I always enjoy hearing about how nurses first entered the profession, and I was surprised to learn that Danielle was inspired to become a nurse after working on global health policy with a nurse leader. As the Director of Nursing Research for Nicholas Children's Hospital in Florida, she helps nurses engage in research and become change agents themselves. I have a great deal of respect for nurses who help other nurses, and Danielle has certainly earned all of mine. I have to admit, I nerded out a little bit reading her many publications, and I really hope the generous billionaire listening steps up to support her next project, which focuses on improving maternal mental health. Balancing A Demanding Career and FamilyLife is good, but it's not without its share of struggles. Even in a Christian marriage, there will be difficulties and challenges, however, with Christ we learn how He can get the glory when we face and overcome them. In this episode, Jen Hughes shares her career journey and how she has been balancing her time as a Christian author with growing her family, the journey of being a firefighter's wife, and advancing in her demanding career as a practicing nurse. She also explains how setting priorities can help us focus on the majors in our lives and as we pursue heavenly and earthly success. Jen has been a pediatric nurse for the last 35-plus years and is married to a retired fire veteran chief. Their life raising their two daughters was focused on their career. Stacey Lohmeier brings a wealth of nursing experience to her LNC work. She is also skilled in working effectively with attorneys, a huge aspect of an LNC's work. She advises LNCs to get a clear picture during an initial case intake of what the attorneys expect from them. The LNC needs practical information, such as what kinds of reports the attorney wants. Equally important, though, is to assess how the attorney feels about working with an LNC. Some are new to the concept and possibly dubious. They may not know in depth what an LNC does. In those instances, the LNC has an opportunity to educate and at the same time to strengthen the credibility of our profession. Stacey also advises LNCs to be cautious when an attorney wants work on a case with a rapidly approaching statute of limitations. They must consider the complexity of the case and the volume of medical data before coming to an agreement. These are but a few of the recommendations Stacey shares from her years of experience. She also tells some fascinating and cautionary tales from her own practice. This podcast will deepen your knowledge of how to handle some of the important challenges in an LNC's work. Join me in this episode of Legal Nurse Podcast to learn about Critical LNC Case Intake Questions - Stacey Lohmeier What should an LNC ask the attorney during an initial case intake? How can an LNC clarify an attorney's expectations of her or him? What must an LNC consider when a case is reaching their statute of limitations? How can documenting conversations with an attorney protect LNCs? Why must an LNC be cautious about any work product shared with the attorney? https://youtu.be/H7jSLq0uXb0 Join us for our 6th Virtual Conference LNC Success is a Livecast Virtual Conference 3-day event designed for legal nurse consultants just like you! After 30 years as a successful St. Louis Attorney, Bill Sauerwein, was looking for an encore career. Something that combined his passion for the outdoors with his desire to work with his wife Carla (a longtime Pediatric Nurse). But what could fit that bill? How about opening a Pedego Electric Bicycle store? "This quickly became the perfect solution for both of us," beams Bill. "For it combined my experience of helping clients with Carla's many years in health care and helping others. All of which we continue to use every day." What could be better? Working outdoors. Helping customers get fit, get active and get out on the trail again. Like the famous Grant's trail that runs right behind their store. "It sure feels like it was meant to be" adds Carla with a smile, as she lists all the happy coincidences that led towards this path, from getting on their first ebike to stumbling upon the perfect store. Missouri boasts one of the largest "rails to trails" projects in America with miles and miles of scenic paths. Turning forgotten rail and pioneer trails into modern adventures... for this couple and all those they help ride along the way.

2020 was a year to remember, to say the least. And I know it would have looked so much worse if it weren't for the doctors and nurses on the frontlines of this pandemic. On this week's episode I talk to Nor.Cal based Pediatric R.N., David Han. He tells me about what things have been like at his hospital since Covid-19, why he became a nurse, and his reasons for wanting to work in pediatrics. He also breaks down his experience of nursing school and maybe some things one can expect in choosing this career. So thankful for friends, like David, who have been selflessly putting themselves in harms way to make sure those that are in pain are comfortable. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/blair-kim/support
