Insurance is a complex business. When it comes to professional liability coverages, the public at large has at least a basic familiarity with medical malpractice insurance. Most people have doctors, and it grabs headlines when a doctor or health care facility makes a mistake. But in fact, there are many different types of professions other than medicine that benefit from liability insurance, which is also known as errors and omissions insurance. Most any professional whose counsel or service could lead to potentially negative outcomes for customers, should carry some degree of professional liability insurance. In this episode, Argo Pro President Mary Henderson talks about about the state of the professional liability insurance market — one of the few areas within the P&C sector that's not experiencing a hardening.

Professional liability insurance, also known as malpractice insurance, is a crucial component of protecting nurse practitioners (NPs) in their practice. Whether you're a business owner or employed by someone else, having your own policy is essential. Even if your employer provides coverage, it's important to evaluate the terms as it often prioritizes the interests of the business. In this episode (#77) of the NP Business Matters podcast, we discuss the need for NPs to have their own insurance to ensure personal protection and the ability to choose their own attorney in case of a claim. One of the growing concerns regarding professional liability insurance is the rising cost. With more NPs practicing autonomously and an increasing number of malpractice lawsuits, insurance premiums have seen a significant increase. Complete show notes at https://npbusiness.org/77

We, as mental health professionals, come into our field with the best intentions and the best ethics and standards for practice. But no matter how professional our practice may be, an accident or misunderstanding can happen. And whether we're at fault or not, we can find ourselves in the center of a malpractice claim and responsible for large legal and settlement fees. The best practice against harmful allegations, financially damaging lawsuits, and high legal fees is to have the appropriate form of malpractice insurance coverage. In this episode, Dr. Graham Taylor speaks with Rachel Warners. Rachel is the Director of Operations at CPH Insurance, where, with over 10 years of experience, they provide competitively priced professional liability insurance for mental health professionals. Together Graham and Rachel discuss the kinds of insurance coverage, protection from malpractice situations, the benefits of individual coverage, and the various types of coverage available from student, to intern, to licensed practitioner. A malpractice claim is not something anybody wants to think about, but it can happen even to the most ethical practitioner. We must protect ourselves from unnecessary risks that are in an inherent part of our work as practitioners. Having the proper policy in place allows us to perform our job, to do what we've been trained to do, without the unnecessary worry of our financial assets being lost in the event of a lawsuit.   For more information about individual and/or incorporated Allied and Mental Health Malpractice Insurance and CPH & Associates, please visit: https://www.cphins.com For more information about the CPH Insurance Blog, please visit: https://www.cphins.com/category/mental-health/ To contact CPH Insurance for more information please call 800-875-1911 or visit the contact us page at https://www.cphins.com/contact-us/

The former Chief Actuary and Director of Insurance Product & Pricing at Clearcover, talks through his journey and vision to founding Coterie, who currently offer BOP, General and Professional Liability Insurance. “We're here to empower our distribution partners, helping them unlock a massive market”, as David explains how Coterie has built for non-traditional distribution partners, allowing them to pivot and bring speed, simplicity and service to commercial insurance. David shares how's he dealt with doubt and adversity along the way, including how investors backed out the week before he moved his family from Chicago to Cincinnati.    “Even if I started it and failed, that cost of education would be worth it. Every day it's tons of little failures that we learn from and iterate on.” David highlights Coterie's values - integrity, intelligence, humility and passion - that drive the vision and the supportive culture that is helping people develop skills and reach personal goals as well as the value high performing insurance talent can bring to the team. “Insurance people have amazing knowledge of the space, but sometimes we need seamstresses, not supermodels. A seamstress is going to create something new that hasn't been worn before”. David concludes by giving advice to anyone looking to start or grow an insurtech. “Know how you want to work with your team, give people the vision and spend a lot of time on the data model.” Connect with David on https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidmcfarland23/ (LinkedIn) or find out more about https://coterieinsurance.com/ (Coterie Insurance).    The Insurance Coffee House Podcast is hosted by Nick Hoadley, CEO, https://my.captivate.fm/www.insurance-search.com (Insurance Search), the Executive Search Consultancy for growing Insurance and Insurtech businesses across the globe. Together with a team of 20 brokers, Thompson Flanagan brokers professional liability, cyber liability, employment practices, and additional commercial insurance to over 600 law firms nationwide. Since 2008, Hughes has focused on Trial Lawyers, brokering malpractice insurance policies for approximately 260 Trial Attorney firms, including several of the largest Trial Attorney firms in the U.S. Hughes explains why Trial Attorney firms present good risk to underwriters, which permits Thompson Flanagan to seek competitive coverage for their Trial Attorney clients. Hughes and Poock discuss the cost calculations, logistics, and planning opportunities involved with obtaining an Extended Reporting Period (tail policy) when lawyers and law firms consider a merger, sale, or retirement. Hughes also explains the trending increases in annual policy premiums and even caps on coverage as a result of the emerging hardening market for malpractice insurance for lawyers. In a “hard market,” Hughes emphasizes the need for law firms to submit their malpractice insurance applications early to allow brokers to effectively obtain competitive coverage for their law firm clients.

Host: Nancy May, President and CEO, BoardBench CompaniesGuest: Perry GranofShow: Part 2 of 2There’s so much more than what you might expect is need to ensure that you, a director of a Public, Private, PE/VC, family-owned, or not-for-profit firm, are properly protected, right up until the end game. In this show you’ll learn how to access indispensable resources, some simply right at your fingertips! In addition:Have you heard of the risks associated with GDPR exposures? No? Are you among those who haven’t taken any action on this front? You may be in good company as more than 50% of companies haven’t done so either. But the risks may be more than you might imagine: international penalties could be as much as 4% of your company’s annual revenues! As for Non-Profits, even having the best intentions could impact your wallet. NFP issues are often more sensitive, emotional, and personal, and the desire for some to “teach directors a lesson” could come to hit you, in more way than one, unless dealt with early on. Always be careful when the heart is not in sync with the head.On the Cyber frontier… Ignorance is no longer a defense like it might have been before! Directors are expected to be smarter, so do the work upfront that makes you so. Last in our lineup – but not least on the topic – are intellectual property, R&D assets, and trade secrets. These can protect your future profits and success, yet the door is still wide open for international intrusion, theft, and “accidental” vulnerabilities in markets where you might be less familiar. Hiccups on this front can easily catch you, leaving you with only lint in your pocket. What do you do? Where do you turn to cover both you and the companies you serve? Caught off guard and you could face criminal violation charges, prison, or maybe even a death sentence! So how do you put your mind at rest? Listen and learn as Perry and I show you what’s beneath the surface.Want more? We’ll be hosting a D&O CYA or Bust program for current, new, and prospective directors. Host: Nancy May, President and CEO, BoardBench CompaniesGuest: Perry GranofShow: Part 1 of 2New directors, typically, have the best intentions to do what’s right in their roles as directors. Despite good intentions, things sometimes happen beyond anyone’s control. Your duties as a board member, whether they be on a public, private, family-owned, venture-backed, investment fund, or not-for-profit board, can vary widely. Regardless, at a base level, your main responsibility is to ensure that the entity that hired you remains financially healthy and able to serve its articulated purposes. Doing this requires organizations to determine and understand the risks they face, and to manage them properly through sound controls, practices, and/or cost-effective insurance coverage. Prudent directors tend to apply these considerations to their own personal and professional welfare, too.In this first of a two-part series, Nancy May and Perry Granof , discuss the basics that every director should know about Directors and Officers Liability Insurance , from understanding your coverage to what to consider to ensure you’re adequately protected.Perry S.
